I am helping a friend who uses Freedom Mobile in Canada to find a new phone. We bought the ZTE Blade V8 Pro. The phone arrived and the phone picked up the 4G LTE internet. It also works in streaming videos over LTE on Freedom. So internet works. Texting also works.
However her phone was not able to make nor receive any phone calls. I tried clearing the cache and resetting the phone, but the problem persists.
I tried to manually set the APN settings. No luck.
I tried to search for the networks. I was only able to see Home 4G. But there is no Home 3G. Is this why the internet LTE works, but not phone calls?
What is going on here? GsmArena said this phone is fully 3G 1700 AWS compatible.

Could be an issue with VOLTE not being supported on that carrier. If data and text works but not voice Im guessing theyre in an area only covered by a certain band.
An update: My friend switched to Chatr.
She went to a Freedom booth. The Rep told her that just because it is listed as compatible on the Freedom Website, it doesn't mean that phone is fully compatible. In the case it only works with Freedom 4G and not 3G. And Freedom 3G is required for calls. 4G is only for internet and text.
My friend obviously was upset. Firstly this phone is supposed to be fully AWS 3G 1700/2100 compatible. All our research shows that it is. I am not sure if this is ZTE mis-advertising, or Freedom has compatibility issues even within their own AWS 3G. Secondly when a phone is listed as compatible on Freedom's website, it better be fully compatible.
This is BS on many levels. And I say this as a fan of Freedom.
She went right over to Chatr and switched to their $40 for 2.5GB plan.
Either way if you are a Freedom user, I say stay away from the ZTE Blade V8 Pro. It probably won't work.
In the future get a popular phone with lots of people saying "Yes it works" before buying a phone for Freedom.

As for 3G, I assume it may work on the 2100 band in Europe (does anyone know enough to clarify on that). However your operator in Europe may work on another band than 2100, since there are two 3G bans in Europe. Generally operators used 2100 first and then subsequent licenses were other bands. So in Norway, I know both 3G carriers use 2100 exclusively, but you should check with your carrier and clarify that T-Mobile USA supports the EU 2100 band and not just AWS (which is a mix of 1700 and 2100).
Thanks for quick reply. 3G works on WCDMA standard? If it is so, my operator use 2100 mhz so maybe it will be working, it will be my first 3G phone so I'm not sure what I suppose to check.

According to this site TMobile touch pro 2 phone use Bands: 1 (2100) & 4 (AWS 1700/2100).
Band 1 is Europe standars so I hope it will be wroking.

Any particular reason you are getting the USA T-Mobile version and not the EU version or one from a local carrier?
Also the T-Mobile version is locked, so you will need to unlock it using the tools on this site.
If you get 3G or not should be pretty obvious. If an H or 3G icon appears, you have 3G. Otherwise if the data icon shows E or G then its only getting 2G.

Because I'm really green when it comes to this, I'd like to know: GSMArena lists the 3G network as HSDPA 2100 while Metro PCS for and T-Mobile is listed as carrying the 1900/2100 bands for the 3G network, but doesn't specify what type (eg HSDPA, EV-DO, etc). Does this matter? Like, would the phone not work even though it can tune into the 2100 band because of type?
While on the subject, does anyone know whether or not they'll add more LTE bands to USA carriers? The only US 4G carrier I saw that carries the 800 band is Sprint, which I heard wasn't very good and also don't have compatible 3G bands.
Also, the 2G network (which I'm assuming is voice calls only) for the phone is listed as operating under CDMA 800/1900 bands. Would these bands, the CDMA, work for US carriers? or would it need GSM?

I purchased the newly released UMI X2 Android phone. I am unable to use the TMobile 3G network. I am only able to use 2G/EDGE.
Voice and data quality are very bad, almost the phone is unusable. I spoke with T-Mobile and was informed that my modem does not support 1700 MHz and there are effort to re-farm TMobile network to support 3G on 1900Mhz but not set date yet. When I scan for available network I get three networks were available

Did you make any progress with this? I recently purchased UMI X2, for use with T-Mobile UK. But have the same problem of not being able to connect to 3G networks - it works okay on 2G/EDGE.
I know the phone supports 3G on 2100MHz, and there's been some debate whether it supports 850/900MHz as well, but I've not found a definitive answer to that.
There's an operator in the UK (Hutchinson 3G UK Ltd) that only have a license for 2100MHz. So I was expecting the phone to work fine on their network- but no go... phone won't register on network at all - even though it shows in the available networks list.
I'm now searching to see if anyone else has been having problems - as it's beginning to look like faulty phone hardware - rather than trying to use unsupported frequencies...

I am still in the same situation, I am unable to use the 3G network for T-Mobile.
I am looking into getting 4G Wireless Hotspot modem $50 from the same carrier, use my SIM card on the modem, and use my UMI X2 as pure IP phone. There are many issues, but it looks promising.

I have this same problem with a operator here in Brazil. Every 3G operator in Brazil, using 2.1GHz band, works fine except one: VIVO.
I can see the network when I click on "manual search", but the phone can't connect. My baseband is:

Firmware update will not solve the problem. Until the manufacture identifies the problem and provides a solution, the problem is outstanding.
Beside the hardware has to be compatible and can support more frequencies which no one can confirm for the UMI or any other chines unlocked phones.
But, this is just my humble opinion.
I Found a solution (at least for me)
I think I found a solution for my problem. I flashed this very new (2013/07/17) rom, with a new baseband MOLY.WR8.W1248.MD.WG.MP.V7.F2.P1, 2013/07/10 23:14 that corrects 3G dropouts and disconnects. Now my 3g works find, with H and sometimes H+. Fast and reliable like it should be. The link for this new ROM is:

I used the file UPDATE_UMI-X2-THB-ROM-based_on_Official_170713.zip. It was based on the Official ROM from 07/17/2013, but I was unable to find the official stock version. This version has a very new bandbase that, supposedly, fixed the problem with 3G on some operators.
3G on Brazil is on 2100 MHz, sometimes on 850MHz but in my case the problem was on 2.1GHz band. Three WCDMA operators in Brazil, all in the same 2.1GHz frequency, work fine, but VIVO doesn't. Now, with the new rom, it works with no drop outs for over a day now.

I have serious issues with HSDPA, t-mobile uk works but only on GPRS and it keeps dropping out. GiffGaff seems to work without dropping out. It has worked for a minute on HSDPA today but only once. Other than that t-mobile has been dropping out badly. GPRS works for a bit then it drops out. I have took an MTK modem log with MobileUncle Tools to see what it says but haven't looked at it yet. Trying to work out if it is a hardware issue or Baseband.

I just got my LG G3 today and I'm encountering an issue getting 4G LTE on my D855 (international version) on the T-Mobile US network. I looked around and searched the forums to find a solution to this 4G LTE problem specific to this phone. I tried going into the hidden menu (3485#*855#) and changing the bands and such, nothing works. I haven't rooted my phone or flashed anything yet, as I haven't found any tutorial in which doing so would resolve this issue for this specific model.
I do get HSPA on it, which gives me about 7mbps, much slower than I anticipated.
Does it mean that I won't get 4G LTE at all? I will be in Hong Kong for a few months and was wondering if I would get 4G LTE there on T-Mobile using this phone since it's the international version and they do offer 4G LTE over there. Anyone know if it works over there?
If there are no solutions, I might just sell the phone and get a different model that works.
I'm located in Southern California if that helps anyone.
@darkelfx, you need to check which LTE bands that model runs off of, and see if T-Mobile uses those. I work for tmo, and we did a lot of work on our network to make it more compatible with unlocked devices, however, I know that since there is a difference in the bands att uses, their devices do not pick up our LTE 90% of the time. They get HSPA+, just like you do.

for 3g you need to have 1700mhz as well
for 4g they use a combo 1700/2100 or AWS is the nickname.
Sorry to say but the D855 is NOT compatible with any U.S. LTE bands.

Yeah, I found this out as well researching the G3 before buying any of the variants for use on Tmo. None of the variants, outside of the 851, will work on Tmo's LTE. You'll get voice and 3G (HSPA), but not LTE connections with TMo.
As for getting LTE in HK, it won't be on Tmo's network, as Tmo does not have any networks in HK. You might get data roaming and all, but I haven't looked too much into that as I don't do much international travel. You would connect under a roaming partner there, if there are any under agreement.
Or you could swap in another SIM for use in HK.
This worked for me.

Hi, I use LG G3 D855 and looking for solution to get LTE on T-Mobile USA. After some research inside the forum, I decided to try to use CyanogenMod (CM 12.1) on my system.
It works well and now I can enjoy LTE on T-Mobile network, even though not pretty stable yet, but I am good with that since the OS still ongoing development.
You can try to download the OS on Cyanogen official website, and use the latest update available.
In order to confirm if you get LTE signal, beside check on your LTE sign, you can use LTE Discovery apps whenever you lost LTE connection and try to reconnect on an LTE signal.
Oh, forgot to mention, I am located in College Station, TX.
I meant to use band 5 lte in indonesia with smartfren using vs986. I used shortcut master lite app to enable band 5 (and/or disable irrelevant lte bands). However i still cant connect to it. I am certain that my location is under that lte band 5 coverage given that when i used other gsm sim i could see the network and attempt a registration on the network. Furthermore, seeing the networks rat id also match with the information online that it is indeed a band 5 lte network. However when i pop in the band 5 lte network gsm sim card, i am no longer able to scan for networks, it just fails to scan everytime, thus i cant connect. I wonder if there is a workaround to make vs986 able to connect to other lte networks other than verizon.
P.s. im on slim 13b rooted/xposed.
It's not just the bands. Verizon really borked the firmware of the phone to make sure that it doesn't work on any other 4G LTE network than its own. For instance, it doesn't work on AT&T and T-Mobile LTE network in the US either, even though the bands are supported.
What you can try is to switch the phone to "LTE/CDMA" mode in the "Network mode" settings. This will probably kill your phone connection, but if you get 4G LTE then, then you can try the same hack that worked for T-Mobile: http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-g4/general/guide-fix-vs986-dropping-to-3g-h-4g-lte-t3272434
But on some networks, there is no hope, for instance nobody was able to get it to work on AT&T.
I think i did check that thread out when i used t-mobile for about 6 months in seattle/udistrict/uvillage/uw areas, with no success. I never got the LTE connection. I wonder maybe its related to different roms/kdz/flashfire modified version of 13b that cause it. I hope someone whos lucky enough to get lte might share info about their 13b version/softwares that you debloat using debloater or froze using tibu. Thanks.
P.s. it was on 4g for an instant before it gives me no signal/network.

LTE 2/4/5/13 can be activated using Shortcut master lite. The problem is that, when i used a simcard that utilized LTE band 3/8, i could detect/attempt registration to signal from LTE band 5 from local network through GSM (given that i activated it). However when I used simcard for that LTE band 5 network, somehow, i can no longer use gsm/cant search for network/crashed. It seemed that LTE antennae on this device is programmed to only accept verizon's. (For lte networks, apns are saved when i put MCC/MNC or RAT for verizons, but discarded when i put other). Thank god though i could still use umts/3g.
Edit: So i tried again. Turns out, i could to get registered on the network, checked on network type and strength (says 4g - 3/4 bars) also on lte discovery says connected. However signal bars says unable to connect to network. Verizon definitely prevent users to use lte on another network. What a **** company.
