with this middle-end phone ,i don't think at all ( at 100%) that these A series 2017 will have this big O 8.x update in the future ...
it will be reserved for note8 ,s8 (s8,s8+,s8edge)...and future note9 ,s9 series, A series 2018 & J series 2018....and "maybe" s7 (but i don't think so !!!!)

I've read an article before that we A7 2017 users will have a Oreo update.
I believe that A 2017 series will get oreo due to the fact that A 2016 series got nugat.
@kukom6 @Jubremelle
i have said my opinion ,because Samsung is not great at all with android ...but i hope that i'm totaly wrong and you tell the truth .
Nougat is jusy released ,the begining of a veeeryyyy looooong time and many future updates with this android... :silly:
But there are one thing very very irritating !!!! : there are N 7.1.2 released (and eventual future others).....and Samsung as usual, have a very big chance to stay all the time with N 7.0 on theirs phones !!!!!!
Samsung and some others manufacturers don't like Android at all ... it's just a free open-source support for to save money and don't spend energy to develop a phone operating system ...and generalize the Playstore and the big business of apps development ...
Samsung have their habit to upgrade the OS only once, and move on to the next model. companies benefits themselves, not their customers. this is how economics works.
Samsung hate the existance of custom roms, such as Lineage OS, Omni, etc. they hate the fact that a customer can extend his phone life cycle, instead of buying a new shiny phone.
Samsung only publish their source code due to obligation to Google.
I used to have a Galaxy S2 which was a flagship, and originally came with Android 2.3.7, then they released an upgrade to 4.1.2, which was so bad and buggy, and couple of months later they released the Galaxy S3, which caused the S2 to die immediately in terms of support.
So... no. no official Oreo from samsung for you guys.
So, how you explain that Samsung release Marshmallow and then Nugat for A3 2016 which was in the same position (f.e. as A3 2017 now) ? I think that two major updates (nugat, oreo) for A3 are real but with a time delay (of course, a3 will be at the end of the portfolio for update).
But still, It's only my opinion.
Up till now, not all region got Nougat update yet and you ask for Oreo? it all depends on Samsung decision, but in reality just wait
Sent from my SM-A520F using Tapatalk
We will get Oreo, 2016 series got Nougat, so there is no reason, that we wont have an Oreo update. The real question is: how it will run.
There are 2 major Android upgrades for each Samsung phones. We only got one. So yes, we will get Oreo. They haven't finished it for the S8, so don't count on it before at least a year, since we only got 7 now.

Oreo will be coming around june.. on the g5+

This is for g5s+ but the g5+ shouldn't be left far behind
Interested in knowing if the kernel is updated to 64 bit or else this update would be utterly useless to developer community apart from camera blobs.

It will still be 32 bit. But we need those blobs yes.
Hmm, having seen no soak tests from either the G5S Plus or the G5 Plus, June may seem a little optimistic. When Motorola was testing the Oreo soak test for the Z Play, they also released the update notes for the Oreo update: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=75464851&postcount=181 However, it still was 1-2 months before official OTA deployment.
Whilst it's good to get excited about major updates, I'd still temper expectations until the OTA actually comes out.

So long as you're prepared for the possibility of major, possibly device breaking bugs and having to be very careful if you wanted to downgrade back to Nougat (we've got enough bricked devices as it is)... It should be fun, just be careful
A jump is nice. Directly to 8.1 Let's see how much time it would take
I disagree that we will see an upgrade in June... Let's break it down a bit as to why:
Honestly, look at the history of the Oreo upgrade for the G5S+, it has been in beta/soak for almost 5 months. It started in late January, I can provide references but Google will work easily enough here if you don't believe me, and there are verified users getting the initial beta in early February. Although I haven't seen a screenshot of the released version, I am told it has the May security update, meaning the final build was likely early to mid-May... So conservatively that process took 4 months from initial beta test to release.
OK, so a tad longer than most Moto upgrades, but not uncommon as anywhere from 30 to 100 days from initial beta/soak to release is normal. We have seen this process be no shorter than 30 days, although 60 would be "typical", but we have seen it take in excess of 8 months (in the case of Nougat for the Moto X Style/Pure before full release, for example).
Now jump to our device, the G5+... there is no confirmed users with a beta or soak yet, not even semi-substantiated or reputable rumors of it occurring yet in ANY market. Not even confirmation of MFN users getting emails to sign up for the beta test. Plug in the previous numbers and we are looking at a release no earlier than late July, but most likely in September and possibly even later.
Again, this is all guess work and looking at history and my personal knowledge through having Moto devices for a very long time, so I could be wrong... in fact, I hope I am wrong.
Plus, let's not forget this device is already 15 months old (released March 2017), and this puts Oreo release at an age of 18+ months, something Lenovo's Moto has done before for devices this age, but also at an age they have cancelled upgrades (not updates) on other devices at this age as well. Although I don't think they will cancel it, it is a remote possibility to keep in mind.
Just my 2 cents worth... take it as you wish.
Oreo 8.1 now rolling out for the G5S Plus.
We can't be too far behind.

Just curious, what have you seen to show the rollout is happening? I've not seen any OTA reports and the update page for the 8.1 Oreo was taken down (or I can't access it at any rate).
Just Google it (moto g5s plus oreo) and see all the reports from the last 12 hours. Eg BGR, Android Police
https://www.androidpolice.com/2018/05/30/android-8-1-oreo-rolling-moto-g5s-plus/
Edit : seems like the articles reference a Motorola update info page that has since been taken down.
Perhaps it went up prematurely?!

Unfortunately, we have seen these "release notes" posted many times and the associated update never appears on devices.
But since we won't get Oreo for several months, if at all, we will probably see the update.
Oreo will never come to the G5+ due to Oreo being 64bit only (which the G5+ is not), sorry guys...
The G5S+, on the other hand, will have the Oreo update indeed!

I'm confused by this statement about Oreo being only 64 bit - the Moto Z Play (also with the Snapdragon 625) got an update to Oreo (v8.0), which was a 32 bit update... https://browser.geekbench.com/v4/cpu/8632026 https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=76277398&postcount=28 https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=76277699&postcount=29
As I understand it, the G5 Plus, G5S Plus and the Z Play have the same 64 bit capable CPU, just with a 32 bit stock ROM, unless something changed?

Oreo is able to run on 32bit systems, as you quoted, it does on the Z Play. As changing from 32 to 64bit needs a complete wipe no OEM will change that with an OTA update. Motorola knew what devices are running which OS and they wouldn't have announced Oreo for Moto G5 and G5+.
Some people just don't have the correct informations.
Sent from my Moto G5 Plus using XDA Labs
Sometimes I wonder that Moto is treating G5 plus differently than G5S plus but both the phones are basically the same (IMO), the only difference being the screen size and the dual camera setup and thus will update G5 plus after updating the special edition G5S plus, if this happens, I'm pretty sure we won't be seeing Oreo till the end of September, maybe November.
This is just an assumption and I'm not saying that it's correct but I just hope it's not and Moto will release a patch note for G5 plus Oreo update soon.

by the month of november all our warranties will be over and custom rom's bugs will probably be all fixed.. also treble is in a good development state, so we would not need support from motorola anymore.. i don't think it's worthed waiting that long..

How's the phone in 2021?

Hello, I'm planning to upgrade my 2018 mid-range phone to a refurbished (fully original) S9 for a good price. But, how's the phone in 2021?
Edit: S9+ comments are also appreciated.
Samsung dropped support for SGS9 so there is no point in buying this phone right now if you want to use official rom. If you are prepared for some AOSP on Samsung you do not have some apps and IME services because of samsung's propitiatory implementations. Although, it's decent phone with amazing display and astonishing camera but after 2,5 year i REALLY NEED to change battery if I want to use my phone more than 5h.
I'm still unsure since new mid-range phones still don't offer the build quality the S9 has (actually they gone worse), or some of them won't be getting 2 year software updates (which makes them stuck in android 11 lol). But in the other hand, s9 stuck with android 10.
Is there any OneUI port from S10, S20 or S21? If there is, how are they? I couldn't see any OneUI port on XDA but maybe it's me being blind.
What do i lose if i use roms. For example, is speaker quality same as stock, or display?

Will the A70 get android 12?

Please can someone tell me if the A70 will get android 12 update? S10 is officially getting android 12 and the A70 was released after the S10, also it was a quiet expensive device so I don't see why it won't get the update.
Samsung promised 3 OS updates for the S series, starting from S10. It also promised 4 years of security updates (only 2 OS) for every phone launched in 2019 and beyond.
No OEM loves long-term supports. It's bad for business. So there's no official One UI 4.x for the A70.
But that's why we're here. Of course there'll be some unofficial ports. And it'll be exciting.

S10 series was released in early 2019 even before A70 was released and will still get android 12 so why not the A70? They said they will give A series 3 major OS updates like S series and then they just decide not to do that! This is unacceptable.

Maybe that is to force you to buy new phones, I am not sure.

The official word from Samsung was to give their flagship Galaxy S-series five years of support, like Apple, that is 3 major OS updates, and two years of support.
The official word for phones released in 2019 and beyond is to give them 4 years of support, 2 major OS updates, and 2 years of security updates.
Understand this. The 3 major updates are only for the S-series (possible the Note, too) as of Samsung's official essay. That means neither the A-series nor the M-series are included.
That doesn't mean there's no chance we might not get Android 12, officially. But, even if that happened, it'll not be soon. That's how business works. Push people to buy the next phone.
In my country, I can trade my phone with an S10 for less than 50$. Maybe you should buy an S10 if you really want 12.

Samsung WON'T upgrade the Note 10/Plus to Android 13 simply because it will bite into their sales....
They want you to get a shiny new toy, not play with that cruddy old thing you have now, and not supporting newer Android updates with all the nifty new features on your older phone is a way to make you upgrade...

It was released later.
Yes, it came out later but as one more of the note 10 series. That is the reason for the request. I understand Samsung's update policy but we are not talking about a single model, we are talking about the top-of-the-range family in its day. The stupid trend of releasing 20 models under the same name. Then these things happen and people get angry and rightly so.

Lol, why care? Android 13 might be worse than 12 especially for the Note even if Samsung did do it
I'm still running on Pie on this N975U. Current load is over 2yo, still fast and very stable with minimal maintenance. Security is not an issue... what's not to like?
Upgrades and updates can and do break Samsung's. No plans to touch my firmware as long as it's fulfilling its mission.

I respect your opinion and the decision not to update. It is true that Samsung is not always right with its updates and personally I think that one ui 4.1 and android 12 ruins the phone, it does not run smoothly, it has excessive battery consumption among other failures. But, did you try one ui 5? I'm running the beta on my s21 ultra and I think it's one of the best updates I've tried in years. Without being a final version, the improvement is very remarkable. This is another reason to ask Samsung to update all Note 10 series models. Forget one ui 4.1 and its bad optimization.

Edit.
I want to emphasize that the only thing that is required is a signature. As written in the petition, it is completely free and donations are not accepted.

Thank you. I've seen Samsung upgrades/updates break phones too many times. Any improvement that could be had by upgrading be marginal at best with my N10+'s and more likely would be detrimental.
I have two N10+'s, one running on 9, the other 10.
That's what they came loaded with. I think the Pie variant is the best of the two. Never used Android 11 or 12 because I have severe doubts about scoped storage. Don't want it.
Be interesting to see a side by side performance test between 9, 10, 11 and 12.
At this point both Samsung and Google Android are completely off the rails. No desirable new flagships from Samsung and Google is still chasing down endless rabbit holes making their OS less functional and the user a slave to cloud apps/storage. Sorry, but I see no point in even trying to reason with either company.
No Sale, they both can just f-f-fade away...

Hi.
Did you read the petition and the messages? The note 10 lite is the only one that will receive one ui 5. The rest, 10, 10+, 10+ 5g will not be updated. The signatures are few and they increase very slowly and I don't know the date of the update for the lite models although I am sure that when people start to see the great improvement that android 13 and one ui 5 supposes the signatures will increase rapidly.
