Help me with 4.4 kit Kat root

My bootloader is still locked and I've never had root on this phone got it too late to unlock. I'd like to root and if I can get a custom recovery and flash a rom. Can anyone help?

Right now, there is no way to root or unlock the bootloader in your situation. It sucks, but it's where we are.
Don't hold your breath for an exploit, either. Motorola/Verizon closed all known holes for BL-unlocking in the penultimate Jellybean OTA, and the only root method that worked in the last JB no longer works here.

Enough with the KK unlock and root threads.
I'm going to start reporting people that make these threads without doing some homework first.
If you have a locked bootloader, you're pretty much up the creek without a paddle. End of discussion
If there is an exploit available, trust me, you'll know about it.

We can say this in every thread where they ask about root. We put warnings out prior to the OTA. Heck, we could probably put a sticky thread in this section about there being no root on KK, yet people will still ask. Why? Because they refuse to take 5 minutes to read through the other 37 KK related threads.

I of course can't speak for anyone else, but I knew the risks well before taking the update, and updated anyway.
I knew it was the very un-XDA thing to do, but frustration with the short battery life and UI lag on my phone was nearing a breaking point.
I tried to make the most of it; hence the "list of changes" thread, which hopefully has scared away locked users who are still n JB.

Any luck with a rootkeeper/root survival of any kind?

My story is somewhat different. I tried to find a way to get rooted KK on my phone (trying to play junior hacker again), ended up soft-bricking my phone to where the only way to fix it was to flash stock KK using RSDLite (did try RSD'ing JB first, but my bootloader was having none of that).
So now I'm hopelessly stuck with a completely stock phone without root.
I feel like the only way to get past this is to attack it politically, like if every single Verizon XDA user banded together and flooded Verizon corporate inboxes with legitimate reasons why we need unlocked bootloaders.
Or maybe if someone is good friends with a politician who is more left of center and concerned about consumer rights over corporations. Maybe convince them that it's better for the environment because potentially millions of phones could be saved from going into landfills if we mandate companies must allow bootloader to be unlocked when certain conditions are fulfilled, like if a phone reaches 1-year of age.

I new I was losing root with it as well. I liked the features that KK brought with the update and still did it. The update finally got me using Smart Actions and I'm getting pretty decent battery life, nothing mind blowing, but pretty good. Buying a portable battery pack has pretty much solved the problem I had with nonroot. Now I can go about 2 days as long as I carry it around, lol. Luckily it's small.

if I have an unlocked BL, and the latest stock version on KK, how would I get root? Is it possible?

Flash a custom recovery via fastboot, and then flash SuperSU zip in recovery.

I attempted it myself and got errors just like some other people. Only difference is they still had root and I don't. I suggest following the thread and seeing if it does someday work for us or somebody could attempt it themselves. I'm currently on windows 8.1 so that could be a problem.

^^^He doesn't need an exploit since he has an unlocked BL. Also, this has been checked on the M and HD family of devices, it WILL NOT work because the the current KK updates have already patched the hole that this exploit is meant to take advantage of.

And what about aka test points? Many Motorola models had such special test points using which you could get unlock of BL. How about our XT907? Any ideas about test points or shortcircuit of contacts?

No need now! Towelroot will root stock KK, and what magic it does allows Motopocalypse to unlock BL again.

Towel Root only allows the root access that Motopocalypse needs. The old trust zone was accidentally (or purposely) put back into this OTA, that's what Motopocalyse exploits.

Verizon N4-SM-N910v ROOT Method???

Is anyone familiar with this Root Method? I'm a little confused because there is still a Verizon N4 Root Bounty but I found this Root method on Android XDA. I wondering is this Root Method Legit? Will it work? Does it Trip Knox? This particular Root method claims that it will work on the Developer Edition & Regular Stock edition. I would just like to know has anyone else tried this & what where the Result? I posted a Link to the Root Method Below. Thanks Jason

Unless an exploit was discovered seconds ago, it will not work. Believe me, when it's finally exploited, the news will be bigger than The Beatles stepping foot on U.S. soil for the first time.

Kind of interesting how it does say it's for our phone. I myself doubt that an exploit was discovered without a whole bunch of people blowing up the threads about it. LOL Who wants to give it a shot?

Based on the Comments I read, Some have said it will work. One person said it failed but another commented & said it would work & he just needed to find the right firmware. I think I will give it a Try this evening when I get home from Work. If this does Work OMG!

I don't see anything about it being specific to the Developer Version only. It says it's for SM-N910v and doesn't contain the developer model number, SM-N910VMKEVZW.
I do see a disclaimer on the CF-Auto-Root page: http://autoroot.chainfire.eu/ that says "If you have locked bootloaders, flashing one of these will probably brick your device..." and it is my impression that the whole reason it's taken a while for a root exploit to surface was because of our locked bootloaders.

Look at the screenshots, that looks like 2 generation old touchwiz. And a random website called androidxda? Doesn't seem like a very reputable site.
The bootloader is locked, flashing CF-Autorooot will not work. This is basic stuff. Also for future reference, this doesn't belong in Android Development section.. take questions to Q&A.

I can confirm that this process works ONLY on the Note 4 Developer Edition. It will not work on the retail version no matter what firmware the user has on his phone because the retail version has a locked bootloader and the Developer Edition has an unlocked bootloader. This process will fail as soon as it tries to replace the stock recovery partition with the custom recovery (TWRP in this case).

I noticed some of what you are saying. I don't know Most of the "Basic" stuff with Android Root Methods. I can follow a Procedure to Root a Device. I don't know if this will work if this wont work etc etc AGAIN which is Why I brought the Questions to the PROS. I did look at some of this Questionably though. I also looked through the Comments & the OP posted 4 days ago that is would Work on Either Edition. I also Commented asking him again but the Comment is not showing up, maybe because it has to be approved before it will show up. All current root methods for VZW Note 4....only work on Developers Editions...bought straight from Samsung.

Possible Bootloader Unlock
Okay I'm sure most of us have bricked or soft-bricked our devices. I have done so on the Note 2. I even screwed on my baseband once. This is what I tried to revive the phone.
1. Odin Stock (No luck)
2. Restore Back up (No luck)
3. And then interesting... Rooted a friends phone and created a backup in TWRP, swapped a few files and restored to my phone. (Worked) However, not only did this work, IT CLONED his phone entirely. IMEI, serial no., everything. Pretty much with identical sims- both of our phones would possibly ring when receiving a call.
With that said my initial problem wasn't solved.
So I started looking for a another method.
I found out that Samsung Kies has emergency recovery granted you have Model Number, and Serial No. of the device.
This WORKED. Good as new with exception of new 4.3 Bootloader.
So what I am getting at is...
What if we used the Serial No. of a Developer's Edition device through Samsung Kies to restore a Retail Version???
Theoretically speaking.... Kies would install the Official software for the Developer's Edition to our Retail device, Thus giving us and Unlocked Bootloader.
I only have 4 days left to return my device to Walmart.
If someone is willing to provide me with the serial number of a Dev Edition I will try this immediately.

I'm pretty sure this won't work because the Developer Edition bootloaders are INDIVIDUALLY signed. So, there is no way you can unlock the bootloader on a retail version...there is no Samsung "signature" for that bootloader.

Just got one in the uk. My EE Sim works but no data, so I was gonna root it, then flash a eu rom on it. It's on 5.0.1

Only if you bought a Developer Edition straight from Samsung......if it is a retail model it has a locked bootloader. ...so no flashing because you can't install custom recovery. Only root is temp root that goes away with reboot.

You should be able to edit the apn settings to get data to work.

Is root possible for SAMSUNG-SM-N910A on 5.1.1 build number LMY47X.N910AUCU2DOI3 ?

I have been searching for a few days and can't seem to find any available method to root this build number. It's my own fault for accepting the most recent update, I should have known better. If anyone knows of a root method for this build I would love to know how to do it.

Latest update from AT&T through system update.

At this time there is none. There likely will never be permanent root for this device, either. Best hope is for a future update of KingRoot to come that gives a very buggy temp-root.

i rooted the SM-N910A NOTE4 using root king and it said root successful then after reboot it bricked itself anda screen came out saying warning at&t has detected ilegal custom software on your device please turn of your device and head to the nearest at&t support center. Honestly you have two choices from what i understand There is 2 U.S. carriers that put what they call a boot lock on their device bootloaders. there is a way to remove the boot lock. google it or ask XDA to assist you . GOOD LUCK. Me personally posted many threads requesting help being that im a noobie and dont know jack sh... about unlocking rooting anything and nobody ever bothered to help me or maybe they just too busy devoloping what ever the case was i had my phone for atleast 2 weeks and i did research during that whole time in different forums like android central etc. and finally figured how to do it. For get about going to AT&T they will tell you your warranty is void and that your phone is permanantly hard bricked and all they do is lie to you so you can purchase a new device. I finally restored my device by installing official firmware that you can download free from sammobil.com via odin 3.10.6 they will give you a complete guide. and the correct download links for the proper tools needed to complete the job NOTE: this worked for me its not a hundred percent sure that it will work for you. Please note and understand that you can do this at YOUR OWNE RISK I will not take responsibility for any damage that you may do to your device by using this method and there is a possibility if you dont do it right you can hard brick your phone PERMANENTLY!!!!!!! proceed at your owne risk if you try to blame me for damages to your phone i will laugh at you HARD!!!

forgot to tell you the two U.S. carriers that put locks on their bootloaders is AT&T and VERIZON so i wouldnt recommend root unless you unlock bootloader or else your phone will continueously stay in boot mode without letting you exit. that i believe is a bootloop good luck

You CANNOT unlock our bootloader and DO NOT ask XDA. Googling it will not result in anything useful either.
Our bootloader is still not able to be unlocked and thus Googling for an answer will only bring up scams, false information, or just no results.

Not sure if you're referring to unlocking the bootloader still or about fixing the soft brick caused by Kingroot. Either way, the reason why no one answered you here on XDA is because both questions are asked at least every other week by people who either can't use the search function or just don't even try to. We here in the XDA community are more than happy to help noobs, but if we see the EXACT same questions being asked over and over again, then we will begin to ignore them since the answers are readily available already.

Yes, for our phones- since there is no possibility to root and thus no risk of doing very serious software damage- Odin is usually the cure-all for most problems. You can find the latest available Odin file in our phone's thread, and use Google to find tutorials on how to use Odin itself.

Yes, for our phones- since there is no possibility to root and thus no risk of doing very serious software damage- Odin is usually the cure-all for most problems. You can find the latest available Odin file in our phone's thread, and use Google to find tutorials on how to use Odin itself.

"Our bootloader" ... "our phones" You make it sound as if you're a rep or employee of AT&T. And if so then wth is so wrong with simply allowing people root access to the phones they bought n own? I understand stupid people with powerful tools make powerful stupid mistakes. But smart people who can fix their own few mistakes would still greatly appreciate being allowed to adjust the phone to drastically increase efficency, or at least remove the bloated optimization cap.
Or those who want root so that they can utilize a form of genuine location and privacy protection. To choose whether or not the app they haven't used in weeks still needs to run in the background all the time or still check your location.
Idk... I'll step off my soap box now. Maybe I'll just say screw it and swap the note 4 for another rootable note 3. Since my straight talk phone service is reliant on the AT&T tower near me for any service.

2) I no longer have the n910a. Got rid of it a long time ago
3) I do not, nor never have worked for ATT nor am affiliated with them in any way.
4) When I used the word "our" I was referring to the fact that I too owned the n910a. So "our phone" obviously meant "my n910a and everyone else's" and same for the "our bootloader"
5) At the time of my post, root was not available for rhe n910a AT ALL. (If I recall, a temporary root eventually became available though, but it reset everytime you restarted your phone). On a daily basis, people were asking whether root was available or not and people were getting sick of answering the same question over and over again when the answer fould easily be found through a simple search here on XDA.
There were also scams going on at the time BECAUSE this was such a popular topic. Websites claimed to give walkthroughs on how to root your n910a, but all they really did was brick your phone. Kingroot was one of them.

Any progress on unlocking the Verizon variant bootloader?

Hi! I'm here with a XT1635-01, the Verizon variant, and as we all know the bootloader is locked to all hell. I'm really looking to flash LOS on here and I was hoping we had some sort of progress.
Here is an article I read today on a supposed bootloader exploit (possibly including the Moto Z 1st-gen series) that allows for a custom boot image to be uploaded into the device RAM without modifying the original boot image. Now, I don't know if this is equal to booting unsigned boot images such as custom recoveries and such, but this may lead us a step closer to at least getting a custom recovery on this device WITHOUT unlocking the bootloader. This can also quite easily allow us to root, although I don't think custom firmware will be supported using this method, as the locked bootloader and FRP will still prevent that from happening.
I'm hoping to do some testing tonight on this theory, but if I'm right, this can open a wide range of possibilities for us. I'm also working on cracking the bootloader at the moment, but that will take much longer. If I could figure out what that third line means in the unlock data (see this post), maybe we can finally have an unlocked bootloader. Until then, shoot me any ideas you guys may have!

(P.S. I also had another idea although I'm more skeptical about it. If we could change the CID from 0x0002 to 0x0001 or another supported CID, we could theoretically request the unlock code from Moto assuming that this modifies the output of

to accommodate this change. This is only theoretical, and while it has been previously mentioned by other users, I don't think this method is realistic. As far as my knowledge extends in this plane of Android development, the CID has nothing to do with the bootloader or unlocking it at all, nor do I think it has any effect on the output of that command. Unless the command uses the CID as some sort of keyhash for the third line (also a possibility?), I don't think we will get anywhere with this. Just a thought, though!)

I actually looked into this method before I tried anything else, but unless we can find a way to resign a TWRP image with the stock recovery image signature, flashing an entire ROM with the recovery.img replaced with an untouched TWRP image will work but will fail only at the recovery stage, as this bootloader checks not only the signature of the ROM, but it's components as well. I'm doing my best to try and find a bootloader exploit that will allow us to boot into TWRP temporarily, effectively allowing us to permanently flash the TWRP image.
I'm on the December 1st security patch. Try looking for any vulnerability possible with this bootloader and I'll keep working at it. The link in the OP (the article linked at the top of the post) feels like a step in the right direction, but as for how to use this vulnerability for our own devious uses, I am unsure.

I know how to do it but it costs about $200 per phone. Chances are, developing an exploit will be more costly in time than my solution.

Yea I am going to get ~$200 out of mine as it is in Mint condition and I did a little customizing to the UI. When i come around to finding another one of these cheap I will def get non Verizon.
I got mine for only $50 !! The pawn shop thought that the phone's home button didnt work and what they didn't realize is that it is a fingerprint scanner not a home button. Muahahaa.. For once the working guy gets the upperhand with pawnshops. Usually they are screwing you! :good:

Hmm post didnt go through.
I guess I am going to sell mine for $200 and then when i come across a non verizon variant for cheap I will buy it and customize it all. I got lucky with mine. I only paid $50!! from a pawnshop who thought that the home button was stuck. What they didn't realize is that wasn't a home button... It was the fingerprint reader. Muahaha. For once the working guy gets the upperhand at a pawn shop and doesn't get screwed like usual. :good:

Finally at least someone with good knowledge and will to work on these phones, seems other have lost hope already, so it's like bootloader's are encrypted? And digging in deep, breaking it seems impossible, I m trying to learn this stuff as I want my device rooted no matter what! These devices have great specs but without root it's not like I m in control of it, I can't test amazing light weight custom ROMs, I hope its not forgotten

Eng Bootloader?

Okay guys apparently I'm too much of the little guy to post this in the dev part. However, I did a search and came accross an eng bootloader or what claims to be for the galaxy s10+. I'm not sure as to the legitimacy of this file, but figured it was worth putting out there. I helped or tried to help when the S8 came out as well. Anyway once I get it uploaded somewhere, I will post the file.

First of all, I bet you $20 right now it's not, it's just the same combination boot file that comes in every single combination rom.
Second of all, even if it is and I am wrong, it won't help as you won't be able to boot it. Samsung phones require special certificates to allow them to boot eng firmware, and those certificates essentially oem unlock the device anyway. I know this because I have an s8+ that happens to possess one. But before you ask, the certificates are tied cryptographically to the imei and did numbers of the device they are issued for, so finding one for another device won't help you
As has been stated ad nauseum, the USA Samsung devices aren't rootable anymore. People who want rooted Samsungs should purchase the exynos (SM-G975F/D), or international snapdragon (SM-G9750) models

While the above may be true, I was merely trying to help and by no means am I a developer. I, however do not believe that US variant SD Samsung phones are not rootable. There have been countless times before where people have made that statement and yet root has come to fruition, albeit may take a considerable amount of time and effort. Many US customers are unable to buy international variants and are stuck with what we can get. So with that being said, I hope that I am not being too pushy with regards to your statement, I just refuse to be pessimistic when it comes to development and root efforts. The galaxy s8 had root even though it took some time, yet it was suppose to be unrootable. I just like to think that regardless of people saying it "can't " is a motivator to challenge development and experiment.

I am aware, as I was the last person to root one. Changes came with the s9 family that closed the last remaining doors. As you can see by looking the s9 or s9+ were never rooted. The s10 won't be either

It's not. In 100 out of 100 times you find these online they are just the combination bootloader repackaged with this incorrect name, because they can be used to bypass frp in some cases.
I don't know why you are looking for the eng bootloader anyway. Even in the incredibly unlikely scenario you found the real one, it won't help you because devices past the s7 won't boot them anyway without a special certificate that your phone doesn't have (because it effectively unlocks your bootloader anyway)

Man, if only we were able to find and use the ENG firmware! Even if anyone is able to find ENG firmware, they will not be able to use it as @partcyborg already pointed out.. You would need some sort of ENG Token to convert your device into an ENG device which as he also stated would in itself be like unlocking the bootloader.. If you know anyone or any company that is able to convert devices to eng devices (I highly doubt it) then please let us know.
Last I heard if you could even find anyone that is able to sell you an ENG cert/token that they are very expensive...

haha yes, that irritates the CRAP out of me... its like the entire internet doesn't know the difference between "ENG" and "FACTORY" sometimes..
to add, factory firmware will not allow you to root your device. It is only typically "debuggable" (no it isn't a userdebug and if you don't know what this means then it probably won't help you either), permissive and verity disabled.
ENG firmware typically will have "eng" in its name and 5th letter from right to left will typically be an E (for ENG.)
To top it off, most of the world can't even flash factory firmware onto g975u.... I think people should focus on figuring that out before anything.. if not, the world is doooooomed
On a side note: The S8/S8+ SamPWND root did use some ENG firmware (this was of course released after the S7).. Mainly we used the ENG system which has SU binaries by default.. but I can 100% tell you even if we did come across ENG firmware, we can no longer flash the system without ENG token/cert...

$600 USD per device for the s8/s8+. That is after the company plops down $25k up front just to set everything up.
It's likely priced this way specifically to make it virtually impossible to do things like give them out on XDA

I think elliwigy has rooted the S9. S10 will be very very hard to do if not impossible.
