No connection to several website/services via LTE when DUAL-SIM active - Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact Questions & Answers

Hi,
I love this phone, but one point drives me crazy.
When I have 2 SIM enabled, and logged in to LTE network, I can't open several websites (ex. threema.ch).
When only one SIM is active, all is fine. As well when I'm logged in to WiFi.
As well when 3G is active, all is working.
When I use the phone as HotSpot, I can access the website via laptop.
Therefore the LTE connection is not the problem.
Can someone please try the same with his SIM and report back?
Thanks in advance
BR

I can confirm exactly the same behaviour with LTE over Telekom DE and o2 DE.
Unfortunately, I don't have a solution other than switching on VPN now an then to receive new Threema messages.
Sony recommends to repair the system software (make a backup in advance) via the Companion software, but I haven't tested that yet.

Thanks for testing. I don't think that repair of system software will fix the issue.
I already tried with installing FW from different Region, what is this in principle.
No improvement.

The Sony support told me that the issue also exists for WhatsApp (which I use rarely so I can't really confirm that), so I hope the issue will get a higher priority.
My bug report with Threema's stack trace and so on was forwarded to Sony's dev team. Let's hope for the best.
I get mixed results for wifi tethering. Connected Android devices and an iPhone I tested won't connect to threema.ch, but a Windows 10 notebook does. Can you confirm that?

Yes, I can confirm.
I only tested tethering with a Win10 Laptop. Threema.ch was ok.
There are now a lot of messages as well in the Sony support forum.
As well I had issues with streaming from Netflix. But after the update yesterday this wa fixed.
I expect the priority of Netflix is even higher then for Threema

Hi,
Did sony confirm the problem with two SIM?
On the Sony support site, only message from users confirming the problem:
https://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-XZ2-Compact/Issue-4g-mobile-internet-with-2-SIM-in-my-xz2c/td-p/1314928/page/3
Local support does not confirm the problem at all...
I hope the problem with two SIM will be fix soon, but for now I don't have any information from Sony that they are working on a fix it
Thanks

Sony confirmed in an email that the issue is also known for WhatsApp and that the support is waiting for feedback from their dev team.

grisu59964
This gives hope for a quick solution
Thanks for the info

After update software to version 51.1.A.4.225 the issue has been fixed

Is it network, WM6, or the unit problem?

The problem is one of the most annoying ones you can have: it appears only from time to time and you don't know when and even when it does you don't notice.
Simply my phone is not accessible for others even it shows full range and so on. The message "...the phone is switched off...". This problem occurs in as far as I remember 3 releases of ROMS (full, vanillas, etc). The radio ROM was also changed. I don't remember having such issue in early WM6 or in original 2005.
Since it's not related directly to any of the releases I post it as a new thread.
Now I have 3 options:
1. Downgrade to 2005
2. Throw the unit through the window, wait until end of contract and buy an iPhone
3. Try to fight with T-Mobile UK - which is not really an option since I just recovered from fighting with Orange for over a month
Does any of you experienced such problem?
Any known issues with downgrading to 2005 like ISPL required before flashing original ROM?
Any suggestions?

Well, I got the answer - couldn't wait and did the downgrade using original ROM. If anyone interested it went without problems. No ISPL needed. Connected, fired-up the exe file and worked OK.
I'll see how about the availability problem.
Ok, seems that it's only me having the conversation ;o)
I apologize for the thread location - it doesn't seem to be related strictly to WM6 anymore as I...
...installed WM5 and did some tests:
(I have voice mail switched off)
- Call waiting enabled = no calls allowed when GPRS active
- Call waiting disabled = no calls when transferring data (large file) but received when no transfer
- Used W660i SonyEricsson handset - could receive calls regardless of GPRS activity
Rang T-Mobile tech support where they told me that this is network feature that when internet connection is active no calls are allowed and since my voicemail is turned off all callers get message that my phone is switched off. In the light of GPRS specification and my tests this is a bull****.
Now I'm asking anyone on UK T-Mobile Web'n'Walk and who wants to help - please do such test. Just try to call your number from different phone when opening a web-page.
This is pretty important to me - I need internet on the move and don't want to get rid of my MDA.
Thanks in advance!
Hi there,
I'm on T-Mobile UK too and I ran some tests myself and found that you are absolutely correct. When you transfer data you cannot receive phone calls.
I've got an O2 device with me I can do some more tests on and I'll also try and borrow my Wife's Samsung and test that too. I'll post my findings here.
Cheers
Alex
ok, i've just tested this on an O2 3G device and there was no problem, next to try a none windows mobile t-mobile phone.
seems this problem has been around for while and on other networks.
http://www.freenfo.net/mobile/archive/index-t-64022.html
ok, final test and conclusion.
I tested the same o2 phone as above but in a NON 3g area (i.e. gprs only) and found the exact same issue.
conclusion: this seems to affect all types of phone and multiple networks but only when using gprs NOT 3g.
I'm suprised we havent heard more about this problem.
cheers
Alex
Thank you Alex very much for your help.
I did some research on the topic last night and found the same info as guys in the thread your linked. It must be that T-Mobile UK operates in NOM-2, which allows to suspend GPRS session only when no data is transferred. When packets are transmitted the device doesn't 'see' incoming calls as it's 'busy' with dealing with the packets. NOM-1 is 'able' to encapsulate information about incoming call into one of the packets and the device is notified about - so it can react, suspend the transmission and pick up the call.
The fact is that our MDA/Artemis uses Class B of GPRS which doesn't allow simultaneous CDA/GPRS at the same time. Even if it can suspend active data transfer it is the network that has to support that feature.
What I must notice is that I had lot more problems wiht this when I was using WM6. It seems that there were some packets transmitted by the system or something. I had my mail set to check servers every 15 mins at the beginning but lately ony once an hour or two. Other soft that could transmit anything was Weather module from SPB or Touch. Now when I'm on WM5 and was checking the issue during loading a page I was unavailable but as soon as a page was completely loaded my phone was accessible back.
My surprise is that if the 'issue' seems to be quite normal and there is nothing to do about it why I couldn't find any info about it here. Doesn't it affect anyone of our community?
I may be wrong with the WM6 expirience but still. If WM6 works fine in that respect it must have happened that someone missed a call when browsing the net.
i hadnt noticed to be honest

Did you try ringing your phone when it was loading a long page or downloading a file?
TBH I think I've noticed it just as much on WM6 as I did (or didn't) on WM5, I think I put these odd voice mails turning up down to weird WM issues! Now I know the truth though.
Obv. there isn't a lot we can do about this and I'm not prepared to turn off my Windows Live Mail or my direct push. I think we just have to wait until our contracts are up for renewal and get over to a 3G device - I'm liking the look of the Touch Cruise myself, or the Touch Dual if I want that keyboard back and by the time my contract is up I think they should be on T-Mob UK.
does the same thing happen in Edge areas or as that rolls out will the problem disappear?
I'm not sure about how EDGE works but the problem affects GPRS rather than 3G due to the fact that GPRS and the incoming call are submitted alongside each other and 3G is seperate. I don't think t-mob uk have edge running yet so I can't test, perhpas some else can test for us.
Bro.. My first 3rd party ROM is the Touch 3.0.. and yes.. my connnection did go off once a while (no bars as well).. that was kinda irritating. I have to go to connection manager and toggle my data connection or something like that, before my phone will get the GSM signal.
And yea.. the original WM5 and WM6 have no such issues.. I wonder if this is because of the new radio version..

How to get Skype working for the TP2

The reason for this thread is to help people get Skype working to its fullest extent and resolve some of the issues. The ultimate objective is to allow those with Skype subscriptions to get unlimited anytime calling across North America if they pay the $2.95 / month for the Skype plan and have unlimited data...
Download Skype 3.0 for Windows Phones here:
http://www.skype.com/intl/en/download/skype/windowsmobile/
It installs fine and theoretically works great, however, there are a number of issues:
1. Skype automatically routes all audio to the speakerphone.
To route the audio to the earpieces, install audioRoute from Teksoft:
http://teksoftco.com/storage/download.php?product=audioroute_ppc
This product is discussed here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=495166
It essentially installs an icon in your taskbar that loads when the phone starts up. Once you open Skype, you click the icon, select the first icon, which is the earpiece, and then all audio will get routed to the earpiece when using Skype.
To route the audio to a Bluetooth headset, then install A2DP toggle from Teksoft:
http://teksoftco.com/storage/download.php?product=a2dptoggle
This program should theoretically allow you to select the Bluetooth headset when Skype is loaded. It should theoretically be able to be loaded concurrently with audioRoute. I have not tested it fully.
2. Skype will not work unless connected to a wifi connection
I had tested Skype and thought it worked flawlessly until someone with an iPhone mentioned that he had to install some sort of program to "trick" Skype into thinking it was connected to a Wifi. I believe that this is an issue with the way Microsoft has designed Windows Mobile, but is probably intential to prevent competition for telecommunication company voice packages. This issue supposedly does not exist with Windows Mobile clients.
Just ensure that ActivSync/Wifi/Mobile is enabled under the Connection settings.
3. Skype Mobile does not support video calling
I'm not sure if this is a software issue or just something that can be hacked. I see no reason why this functionality would be disabled in the Mobile version of Skype... any insight would be appreciated.
Would love it if anyone else is experiencing problem 2 as well... I want to find out if it's isolated to my handset... or even to just my carrier.

No problem here on a Vodafone TP2. Skype uses the 3G connection fine.
You know that htere's a setting that tells Skype what connection(s) to use? It defaults to "Use ActiveSync/Wifi" but can be changed to "Use ActiveSync/Wifi/Mobile"
It was working for me I think
see the message below

Maybe I'm misunderstanding the question, but I have made calls through Skype on my TyTN II using the Australian Three 3G network. Called my wife on her mobile in Shanghai with no problems. Well, the connection was pretty horrible (I think it's a bit hard work for both the phone and the network) but it connected fine for as long as I wanted.
As tjobbins said, in the Connection Method settings, I can "Use ActiveSync/WiFi" or "Use ActiveSync/WiFi/Mobile"... so if I'm overseas, I leave it on the first one; in Australia on the second one.

Interesting... I think my settings might have changed because I tested it again just now and it worked!
Thanks all!
I'm interested in how this works. I own the Titan at the moment and Skype only works over Wifi. Do you know if Skype plans on fixing the problem with calls only being heard from speaker phone? Any update on video calling?
off-topic question here, does anyone know if the titan operates on 3G? (i have sprint)

We can only hope. Skype have their forums and I saw a number of posts complaining about those missing features. I guess we should add our voices, though I would expect it will take a while for it to be fixed; the current version for Windows Mobile, Skype 3, was released fairly recently.
One alternative to look at is Fring. It supports better audio routing, i.e. calls are not only on speakerphone - they can come through the normal phone earpiece, or a bluetooth headset. Don't think it does video. As well as Skype, it also supports MSN, ICQ, Yahoo, AIM and others, so it's a good all-in-one client.
However on the TP2 Fring does currently have one quite annoying issue - it doesn't seem to work on Wifi. It's fine on mobile/3G connections, but on Wifi it won't list access points or connect. This is reported on their forums but no sign of a fix yet. Actually I did once get it connect to WiFi, but I don't really know how and haven't been able to repeat it.
Oh I just remembered the other huge problem with Skype for Windows Mobile - it doesn't list your phone contacts!
Bloody useless when you want to make a Skype Out call, and you end up having to go into the contact record, copy their number, and then paste it into Skype. Really daft.
Fring does list your contacts, and you can use it for Skype Out as well as Fring's own paid-for outbound dialling system.
I have another problem: NO notifications! So i don't know if someone chats or phone me! It's useless in that way!

Thanks for the suggestion. I want to make sure that I'm using only data-only when making calls, since I have unlimited data... and limited daytime voice minutes.
I installed fring, and it doesn't show the TP2 as a supported device. When I launched it, it kept asking me to find a WLAN... except nothing shows up on the list! Wifi is enabled AND data is enabled, and it keeps showing Not Available...
Has it worked on your TP2?

Nope. See my post before the one you quoted! It doesn't work on WiFi on the TP2 at the moment - and also on some other WM devices I think.
Works great on 3G and ActiveSync, just doesn't work on WiFi.
Except.. once for me it did. It suddenly connected and I don't know how or why. Haven't managed to repeat it yet though. But maybe there's a workaround lying in there waiting to be (re) discovered

No no - I had wifi disabled and just tried to use regular data connection... but it couldn't find the connection for some reason.
Hate to bump an old thread... but I finally got Fring working on my TP2 (latest version), but SkypeOut calls don't actually direct to the Earpiece... I don't hear anything. Loudspeaker works fine.

GPS kills Mobile Network

I have this rather annoying issue on the Desire. The phone is brand new, i bought it upon release. The problem is that whenever i enable GPS on the phone the Mobile Network connection gets killed. Attempting to reactivate it by switching mobile network on and off does nothing.
The only way to get the mobile Network back up again is to switch of GPS and reboot the phone.
Has anyone else encountered this problem? (i searched the forums, only found one user on these forums)... It could help me figure out if this issue is limited to my device...
Regardless, I already contacted HTC on this matter, i will post their response here as soon as i get it.
Thanks!
Odd. The only thing that springs to mind is that somehow the A-GPS is messing with your network. Try disabling A-GPS.
Is the phone bought from the network provider? If so, any network incompatibilities is their responsibility. Or even if it was store bought, you have reasonable expectations from HTC that it should work with local networks. If its gray import however, you're probably on your own.
Yep same issue with my HTC: When GPS enabled -> No more data transfer.
I'll also send a mail to HTC.
I reset the phone to factory settings today and to problem is now gone. My best guess is that the issue was caused by a third party app i installed (i'm not sure however, since all apps are sandboxed).
I installed two apps that made use of location services: GPS Status and Trapster. I'll download them again to see if they are the cause of this problem.
Please post back here if the factory reset works for you. This could help other people that experience this problem.
BTW, does anyone know of way to read error logs of the device? The OS must have software errors logged somewhere...
Thanks for the replies!
Received an answer from HTC (sent a mail about my Data Connection Problem few days ago):
"Thank you for contacting us in regards to connectivity on your Desire, I can help you with that. This issue has been reported to our developers for investigation and we hope to have a solution available soon. I trust that this resolves your query"
Hope also this "solution" will be available soon...
Guys,
I did a hard reset (return to factory settings ) on my Desire today and guess what:
Both my Data problems (no data after use of Wifi and or GPS) are gone !
Tested several times Wifi & GPS , also did a reboot and tested again, all seems working again, no more 3G data problem anymore.
So I guess one of the extra apps I installed caused the 3G Data Connection issue.
I'll reïnstall them one by one to see if I can catch the "guilty" one.
I also hope that problem doesn't return after a while without a cause.

Google Hangouts video chat over 3g/4g?

Hello.
[EDIT]
[TUT] Permanently enable google hangous video calls over 3g/4g/lte
[/EDIT]
It came to my attention that Google Hangouts (formerly Google Talk) video call works fine on T-Mobile network over mobile internet connection, while the same app on AT&T network works only on WiFi connection. Well, at least the TMO GS3 I got works fine over mobile network without any modifications.
The restriction can be bypassed by simply changing one entry in the database:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1063767
Unfortunately this is a temporary solution, because after phone connects to a WiFi network that entry in the database resets and you have to start over.
There is an Enable Video Chat over 3G/4G app that modifies that entry in the database, but the same as the manual method it requires reboot each time.
So, my question is does anyone know a more permanent solution for this? Perhaps fake the network type maybe?
Thank you.

I don't mind having to reboot for the special circumstances that come up when I need to video chat over cellular... but I'm wondering if the solutions you posted would apply to the Hangouts app since they are both 2 years old?
I'm hoping to find some work around soon... it's the only way I get to "see" my daughter on nights that I work late. I used to be able to initiate video calls from the Google+ app, but the recent update killed that. Would installing an older version of Google+ bring that back?
The app I mentioned as well as the manual method works fine with current version of Hangouts.
Skype and Tango voice/video chats work fine on celular network without any hacks, only Hangouts screwed.
And after reading this:

all I can say is: T-Mobile here I come and AT&T can suck it.

Man, it's really disappointing that their is no "My3G" or any other apps that fakes WiFi signal.
Sure, there isn't much of application that requires that, but when they do, it becomes a must to resolve the issue,
such as: Hangout over AT&T 3g network, and downloading games with large files

[Q] Wi-Fi 802.11n doesn't work with a Russian sim card, is there a fix?

Hello. I've poked, googled and searched around trying to find a way to fix this annoying issue.
Long story short: till 2004-2005 Wi-Fi N bands weren't legalized for civilian use in Russia. Now they are and we here still sometimes receive such devices which block usage of those bands. I've faced the same idiocy with Xperia S.
GB worked with channels 1-11 of Wi-Fi N (yet 12-13 should have been available too since Russia != US). Still it was bearable. ICS was the same (I've inquired about this issue a couple of times on the official forum to no avail).
Here the long-awaited JB update comes up (hooray) and bam - Wi-Fi N is blocked. Now if I pull out the sim card and turn on my phone - it will successfully connect to Wi-Fi N network. If I put it in and reboot the phone - the phone will connect to the N network for the first few seconds and then - as soon as it initializes the sim card - it will drop the connection. If I don't enable 'G/N mixed mode' on my home router, it will be sitting with no connection and showing me that N network but it would not connect to it.
Now as I told before I've been searching around internetz and was able to find some lose ends and few possible fixes to this issue.
1. Region code change. Doesn't work. It did before when the phone wasn't able to connect to channels 12-13. But now when N doesn't work at all this fix doesn't help. It looks like the problem lies deeper now.
2. Messing with wpa_supplicant. Works... sorta. I've replaced stock wpa_supplicant file with this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2399391 . It kinda works after that but starts acting up further down the line. E.g. it connects to a N network and everything's cool and dandy BUT when I leave my home and wake up the phone somewhere else I see that it still thinks it's being connected to my home network. It sees the other networks around it at the moment but it doesn't want to choose them as it kinda connected to my home one. Which is nowhere near. And if I get back to my home with the phone in such state - it won't continue to exchange data over my Wi-Fi network. So to fix that I have to turn wi-fi off and then on again but I don't like such a behavior since in my town there are a lot of free wi-fi hot spots around (in public transport, at bus stations, in cafes, etc) and I'd like my phone to choose and connect to open hot spots automatically.
So could someone please shed some light on how all this restricting thing works, what mechanism is responsible for available Wi-Fi modes except region code field in the databases and how do I fix that? (or break it?). I mean the second fix is almost works but it looks like wpa_supplicant wasn't hacked properly. Maybe there are other wpa_supplicant files available?
Thank you!
Edit: forgot to mention that I'm talking here about Xperia S, firmware versions are: JB .200, .211, .96
The same problem with my xperia ION from Syria , i try many APPS to change region code but no luck , and then change wpa_supplicant file but i face same your problem and i am suffering of about this problem , and i already change my rom from 211 to 96 and the problem still .

Yea, I saw few people here from Syria and from some other African countries also and they all had similar problem. Although I didn't know anything about legal status of Wi-Fi N bands in Syria so I've decided to create a new topic.
It looks like this problem is quite wide-spread and before Sony officially acknowledges it, I hope we'll get some help from devs around here. I wonder if the devs actually look through troubleshooting branch of forum. Something tells me they don't.
I mean if there are fixes available it shouldn't be too hard to modify something in the system to get that damn thing working. This wpa_supplicant fix is especially interesting but I can't find any tutorial on how to edit it. Google keeps silence.
Did you find any solution for this problem , because I try many article but no luck .
