yes, i made my redmi note 5 pro into fastboot mode. Then i can see my phone was listed in xiaomi assistant software by the name of "whyred", i suppose "whyred" is its code name.

You will be able to flash Redmi Note 5 Pro Indian ROMs on Global version but the camera will not work because both have differents camera sensors...

I also ordered a Global version and I'm waiting to receive it but there is no specific thread for our device version. This thread/forum where we are now is for all Redmi Note 5 variants and all ROMs are compatible with others device with little difference.
To sum up, China and Global devices are the same and you can flash their respective ROMs on the other without issue, but the Redmi Note 5 Pro indian has different camera sensors from the above ones and you'll have bugs in camera if you flash China/Globa ROMs on it or vice-versa.

could someone please tell me the numerical model number for the Indian Note 5? Mine is M1803e7SH and I've seen it sometimes called Whyred -- but there is a lot of misinformation about the name. Also, even though it's called the Global Version, the Xiaomi listing for it is on the Xiaomi Taiwan site. (I wish manufacturers would provide more distinctive names for the different models and variants). Thank you.

That forum is for the Indian Redmi Note 5, which is a rebranded redmi 5 plus (china). Codename: - VINCE

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 China/global and Pro share one codename which is WHYRED. China and global version are almost the same (global version supports LTE B4 and B20 and China version doesn't ). Pro version has got different front camera sensor
So whenever You see Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 with dual camera and Snapdragon 636 it's code in WHYRED. If frontal camera is 20Mpx - it's Remi Note 5 Pro. If 12Mpx (or 13Mpx I can't remember) it's China or global. LTE B20 and B4 supported ? Then its global

This entire forum is dedicated to both RN5Pro and Global RN5, both labeled as WHYRED. So most of the things should work on both, unless it's noted otherwise. The builds (both rom and kernel) are unified, as it was done with OP 3/3T.

Global or China redmi 5 plus = Indian redmi note 5
Indian redmi note 5 (single camera ) is Redmi 5 plus in china.
Indian Redmi note 5 pro (dual camera) is Redmi note 5 in china..

There are 2 version of Redmi Note 5 pro , 1 for china (redmi note 5) and another for global (redmi note 5 pro).. kindly first search on youtube regarding this..then you will know

yeah, just like others said, the naming this time was really confusing.
India : Redmi Note 5 Pro (whyred, SD 636)
CN/Global : Redmi Note 5 (whyred, SD 636)
India : Redmi Note 5 (vince, SD 625)
CN/Global : Redmi 5 Plus (vince, SD 625)
so basically, there just 2 versions of Redmi Note 5, Indian version (RN5Pro) and CN/Global version (RN5)
so yeah, this forum is the correct one for your device
just make sure if u wanted to flash custom roms/mods, use the CN/Global version

Coz they released whyred in India way earlier than China and Global. So xda made a placeholder with name Redmi Note 5 Pro. But seems like many global and china users want a separate section....they submitted a request to xda to separate RN5 Pro from RN5 China/Global. If you want to support that, then do so
For me, I'm fine with the name Redmi Note 5 Pro.

but i believe that the section must renamed to something like Redmi Note 5/5 Pro cause the device is the same (cammera's different) and after the latest roms (i think) they have also all camera's drivers included
the confusing section is the other, the Redmi Note 5/5 Plus , this has to be renamed , to something like Redmi 5 Plus/Note 5 India (sorry but 5 plus is the first released device and also the name is for all countries except india)

The other one is already renamed to Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 / 5 Plus. I don't know if they do this for pro too. But it's up to xda. And I just that said many global users are wishing to separate RN5 Pro altogether and create a new section for RN5 global/china users coz of slight hardware diff. This is kinda absurd imo. But I support changing name to Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 / 5 Pro. It's possible only if more users submits a request to xda staff to change the name

There is no AI version, even though some sites incorrectly labeling it as such.
There is Redmi Note 5 Global or China version and Pro Indian version all with the codename of WHYRED!
Indian version was release first, and that is when these forums where created and thus adopted the other versions.

Still you get the impression India is the middle of the world. Shouldn't a device being called by it's international name when it's a international forum? Really ... that's no good explanation since it was clear from the very beginning that PRO will only be the indian version.
Just avoid any confusion, all the version is the same under codename WHYRED. Just rename it to Redmi Note 5 (WHYRED). DONE.

Remember that not everyone know its codename. Your suggestion would also confuse the Indian folks, so there is no "one-size-fits-all". I suggest it's left just the way it is right now.

Though just so you know, the "AI" bit isn't part of the official name. It's just something resellers have added because AI such a buzz word now.
It is Redmi Note 5 with AI Dual Camera, or in the screenshots the 'with' is dropped.
There is no "AI version". There are three different Redmi Note 5 models, the Indian version (sold by the name Redmi Note 5 Pro), the Chinese version (sold by the name Redmi Note 5) which has a different camera setup and there's also a Global version which is the same as the Chinese version but with additional LTE bands.
