Oreo Soak Hotspot? - Moto Z Play Questions & Answers

I'm on the Oreo beta, Soak 3 and my hotspot doesn't work. It has never worked on any of the Soaks and I have no clue why. I use Cricket but I have installed the tethering enable module via Magisk. I can enabled the hotspot but everything that connects shows no internet and gives the message "dnsprobe finished no internet" in chrome. I have tried modifying the DNS servers and I have tried using a VPN before enabling the hotspot but no luck. Anyone have any other suggestions?
Thanks in advance,

[Q] VPN and WiFi question

EVO 4G:
What is the trick to getting the WiFi hotspot to work after being Rooted? I grabbed the WiFi tether file and installed. The phone can be seen by my laptop but the laptop cannot connect. I initially tried it with WEP enabled and it didn't work so I did it as an Open network and still no success.
I'm also having trouble connecting my EVO to connect to my company VPN. We use WPA2 Enterprise which the factory VPN client does not natively support. I tried installing OpenVPN but have been unsuccessful with that. Any help is greatly appreciated and thanks in advance!
bump...bump...
How about... Some details.
ROM?
Kernel?
Software versions?
Have you tried other ROMs?
Have you tried other kernels?
Have you tried other tethering apps?
I had the exact same issue....all you have to do is go to the website and download version 8 works like a charm

Do you have media control enabled? If so, when you connect to your hotspot you need to approve your client via your EVO.

[Q] WiFi Tether Broken after JDQ39 4.2.2 udpate VZW stock rooted

Hello,
I an running stock rooted 4.2.2 on vzw gnex. I have been using wifi tether since I got the phone and now with 4.2.2 it is not working. I get started with errors warning. log shows failed to configure AP and start AP.
I tried MWALT2s disable of native tether check which seem to run fine in recovery but I still get the same errors.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2176954http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2176954
Has anyone with stock rooted 4.2.2 been able to get wifi tether working?
Thanks,
Pupule

the wifi tether app no longer works but the built-in tether does. there's a copy of a modified version of wifi tether floating around (actually, in this Q & A forum thread!) that some are saying does work but I have not tested it myself (yet)
{edited to add} well, I just installed the hacked version of wifi tether and it works perfectly. the link to it is here in the Q & A thread so you should be able to find it. you will need "unknown sources" checked to allow it to install...

No Internet On Some Apps After Update?

Hello everyone,
So today I successfully converted my HTC One M8 GSM into Developer Edition (4.4.4). Then updated it OTA to Lollipop 5.0.1.
Then I downloaded my apps and everything.
Some of my apps say that there is no Internet connection even though some other apps and the browser are working fine. Kik for example isn't working.
Ask.fm isn't working.
They DO WORK over mobile network though. But it shows no Internet connection through WiFi.
note that both of these apps are working completely fine on my Nexus 7 connected to the same network running Lollipop as well.
I tried rebooting the phone. Didn't work.
They work if I use VPN.
any suggestions on how to fix the problem? Thanks in advance!
Try rebooting the wifi router.
After so many attempts of flashing different ROMs, rebooting my router, trying everything. Lol I found out that if I set it to Static instead of DHCP it works, BUT only uploading files doesn't work on many apps.
Who knows maybe I'll try factory resetting the router later ;-;

android pie broke tethering bypass?

updated to pie. rooted with magisk. checked tethering and it failed. tried the build.prop edit to bypass and no go. anyone else experience this?
EDIT: fixed. Had to update magisk to v16.7 on beta channel so it would root Pie properly.

Glad you got it fixed, but this isn't the correct forum to ask questions. Please ask in the Q&A Section

Do you have the tethering zip file you could share? I cannot find it in the store and I need tether.

This is the last version I have.
When you say 'tried the build.prop edit to bypass', are you referring to adding 'net.tethering.noprovisioning=true' to the build.prop file? Was it the same procedure that was described in this post: https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-xl/how-to/root-guide-native-hotspot-t3493286 ?
I upgraded to Android 9 Pie this morning and lost tethering, so I just wanted to check if you have verified that this works on Pie before going through the procedure again. Thank you!
Hey. Just saw this, and am on a Google pixel with pie, and have no problem tethering, as I discovered a homerun of a fix, provided you have root.
Just download VPN hotspot (by mygod), VPN tether (by jarvanh) and a VPN (I use the one with the bears in the tunnel). Turn the VPN on, then enter VPN hotspot. Toggle hotspot IN THE APP ONLY, return and enable the wlan0 option that will appear after hotspot engages. Then, open VPN tether, toggle on, and Viola! Endless hotspot. It will be viewable on your data usage only under the app title of your VPN, and thus as unlimited as any other usage.
As with all things, however, there's a drawback, which is excessive battery drain. But it definitely works and can be done, for free, and without a build prop tweak, as I haven't bothered working it in anymore, because I am positive it doesn't matter. But, if you wanted to stick with the prop tweak, add it to your /default.prop as well as /system/build.prop and then in a terminal (as root) enter "setprop net.tethering.noprovisioning true"
Which can be verified with the command "getprop net.tethering.noprovisioning".
Hopefully you enjoy.
