Pixel 2 XL on AOSP based ROMs (Research/Testing) - Google Pixel 2 XL Questions & Answers

Hello Folks, i'm having some Questions about the Pixel 2 XL and AOSP based ROMs (Lineage is also AOSP/CAF based) in general. Maybe is someone willed to help Me out. So here's what i would like to know:
-Is the Pixel 2 XL able to play HDR Content on AOSP?
-Are all Pixel Stock Features available? (Like Instant Tethering/Apps, unlimited Photo Uploads etc. (Except Music Recognition))
-How is the Sound compared to Stock? (Loudness, Clearness, Bass (Speaker & Headphones))
-And last but not least, how is the Performance? (Responsiveness, Lags, Gaming/Benchmarks)
I need some Help from Pixel 2 XL Users to find out if there is actually a improvement possible by using My Project called "Snappatch". I would test it by myself but i was not able to buy one till now. Any Help and testing is much appreciated, and i just hope i can deliver some Goodness for this awesome Device (In My Opinions is the Pixel 2 XL still ruling right after the Axon 7).

From personal experience with DU and AquariOS, about the only stock feature not working is Active Edge. And in some cases, connectivity problems for Sprint users as far as Volte goes. Everything else you mentioned seems to be just like stock :good:

Code goodies from N6P?

Ok guys, Google just showed us Nexus 6P which has our same SoC (rev 2.1 also) and I was wondering about how this could affect our development section.
Do anyone experienced know if we can probably get same experience (or maybe better, 1080p screen....less effort) using aosp code from N6P? aosp based rom I mean....
or if will be extremely easy to get aosp working, like very quickly, on our phone....

Possible to port Google Pixel ROM to HTC 10?

Hello developers!
I am not savvy at all on programming but I had a question. Would it be possible to port the Google Pixel ROM to the HTc 10? I know the Pixel is made by HTC and the specs are pretty similar. I would not be able to do it because I have no clue. I was just curious if it would be possible (without a astronomical amount of work).
Thanks for any replys.
Good question, possible probably, how long and how much work. Well that's another question that requires someone with the ability.

question itself was really a discussion point not an actual question when you are asking nougat to be ported to htc 10 when mm hasn't yet been ported or even the pixel is yet to launch on many countries/areas/stores
pixel rom is vanilla nougat so the answer given was a discussion point again which is :good:

I concur with @SacredDeviL666, good discussion point indeed.
And yes sometimes i speak or text to carry on a point just for the sake of it.
**Sometimes it brings others into the conversation, and the people that have the ability could be the others.
**Sometimes that's the and.

You didn't say vanilla MM the first time around. The 10 shipped with Marshmallow and had access to the full feature set of Marshmallow. I know very well what AOSP is. It's exciting the sort of progress that's being done on CM, despite the calm of late.
Also, Pixel isn't Vanilla. It has added apps/features that will not be on Nexus devices, and are beyond AOSP. The Pixel ROM is a skinned Android.
There's actually a Pixel ROM made for the Nexus devices now! Can anyone port this? The link is for the Nexus 5X --> https://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-5x/development/rom-pixelmod-lg-nexus-5x-t3486862
With lineage, resurrection remix and some other vanilla roms, not to mention certain parts of the pixel like the launcher and I think the dialer have been made avaliable, there isn't a massive demand for it.. Not when there isn't really any difference between the two.
Perhaps the so called added apps and features to be added would be a better question and probably one with a more probable positive outcome.
@SacredDeviL666 Let me just hop in with the statement that Pixel ROM is not vanilla Android. Its close, but its not. Nexuses had vanilla Android. Having a custom skin (Pixel Launcher) and additions to the system that aren't part of the AOSP or available to all other OEMs makes the Pixel equal to Sense, TouchWiz, EMUI etc...
In a way, asking to port Pixel ROM is like to ask if someone could port TouchWiz ROM. You can imagine how hard it would be to port TouchWiz.
BUT, unlike other skinned ROMs, Pixel apps can easily be installed onto other devices.
As a conclusion, for a close-as-possible Pixel ROM, use the most vanilla AOSP ROM you can find,
and only install Gapps and apps that arent part of that package but belong to Pixel, like the launcher.

Pretty sure it's not impossible since it was ported to the Nexus 6P, 5X, 6, 9 and not sure what other so it can be done!

Never said its impossible, just that there's no need to port the ROM because you get most features by just installing Pixel apps onto your phone.
Some other things, that are Pixel exclusives, a bit harder to port. Or we may need to implement those from scratch. Also, the phones you mentioned are all Nexus devices
with drivers available. If you try to port to another OEM you will probably have part of hardware not working or working but laggy.
Pixel is made in perfect sync with software and hardware, and we don't know what optimizations did Google do for their phone under the hood.

Experience with RemixOS on Pixel C vs. Ultratablet

Hi everyone. I see that RemixOS is now officially supported on the Google Pixel C. But what I don't see is a lot of feedback on using is long-term.
I loved my Remix Ultratablet at first. Great form-factor, and of course RemixOS. Though over the course of a few months it started to show problems, many of which are productivity killers: freezing, display lag, video playback lag, touch inaccuracies, etc.
The Pixel C also has a cool form factor, and (people say) the hardware of the Pixel C great, but the OS was lacking. It seems that Pixel C + RemixOS could be a powerful combo. But has anyone used this combination long-ish term that can share feedback?
Thanks in advance.
i dont understand the original google android os should better than remix os, its not stable ,cost lots of batteries

Now Playing on the OG Pixel

Hey Guys,
I hope this is the right section for my question.
I was wondering if there is a Now Playing port to the OG Pixel in the progress. Haven't found much Infos yet, other than some devs asking for specific files from the Pixel 2 (XL). Im really looking forward to it, so maybe someone has Infos?
Otherwise, I wish you guys a great weekend.

He means the original Pixel XL as opposed to the new pixel 2.
Any updates on this?
Right now there seem to be two implementations (and one port) of the Now Playing function for Pixel phones. CypherOS (as well as PixelExperience mod) have a similar function on their ROM that allows your lock screen to identify playing music. If I'm not mistaken though this is not a port but a custom function using Soundhound. This may be the last that we'll see of an open sourced version from them due to a dispute between Cypher and PE (more on the Cypher G+ page, on the discussion filter) going on.
The second option seems like a port of the function to CarbonROM. They have a ROM available for the OG Pixel (XL) but with no current maintainer. Looks like the now playing feature only works on the Pixel 2. On a commit from the PixelExperience github they say that they are using a slimmed down Ambient Container so it might borrow from CarbonROM already.
If you wanted the majority of pixel features (at least in appearance) to remain the same though a ROM does exist that adds the CypherOS/PixelExperience implementation of AmbientPlay (nowplaying)for Pixel and Pixel XL phones while backporting Pixel 3 features, like the launcher. I haven't used it but it seems promising. According to the current changelog, it was removed last update for the API being down and added again for testing purposes for this month's update. Who knows if it actually works at the moment though. I'm not aware of any other working port for this model sadly. I think this is the closest we can get, until someone can create a new ROM with stock Pie but and the CarbonROM now playing code.

How much longer will there be ROM development?

I know it's impossible to know for sure, but do you anticipate that Lineage and other ROMS will continue to be developed for the PIxel 2 series over the next year or two? The ROM section of the board seems decently active right now. I'm considering buying a Pixel 2 XL, but don't want to buy it only to have development stop over the coming months. Definitely want Android 12 when it comes out.
if you seriously want 12 when it comes out FWIW, may be better to get Pixel 3 (which has dev/beta images IIRC) since custom dev only kicks off then when Google opens sourcecode. (FWIW Pixel3 also has multiple Lineage device maintainers.) OTOH if repartition, apparently can hack beta GSI onto Pixel 2, tho the tricky shimming/patching wasn't yet able to do calls last I read https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...oid-12-and-any-gsi-larger-than-2-6gb.4311135/ ). DotOS already claims some version of Monet theming engine FWIW. Best wishes
well, just read https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...-rates-on-the-pixel-2xl.4329795/post-85593187 who says be wary of Pixel 3 and 2XL is better, so definitely do your research. And whichever, don't get a Verizon one (as can't unlock bootloader).
