Verizon Voicemail with unlocked Galaxy s9 - Samsung Galaxy S9 Questions & Answers

This is an ANSWER, rather than a question.
There are questions all over this forum on how to get Verizon Visual Voicemail to work with an unlocked Galaxy s9. I got it to work, and rather than posting the answer in a half dozen threads, I thought I'd just create a new thread. Unorthodox, but, well, Bonnie...
This may be more detailed than you guys need, but if you can find the Samsung Visual Voicemail app in GALAXY apps (not the Samsung store, not Google Play) and use Lightflow, you're there. I don't know how the Voicemail works standalone, but I wanted the LED indicator and the sound of my choice. Voila ! This was all done on my Galaxy s9.
This app is available through GALAXY APPS, not Samsung Apps. Look for a dark blue icon with the O--O symbol. I got it to work, without rooting or Google Voice, using Lightflow as follows:
Open Lightflow
Choose Notification Settings
Choose red "+" plus sign at the bottom right
Choose "From System event, battery, gps, etc.
From "Select system notifications to add", roll down to Voice Mail, check the box, choose "Add"
This will add Voicemail to your Lightflow notifications list, and then you have to pick your settings for it.
On Lightflow's Notification page, find dark blue "Voicemail" and open the "three dots" to the right, choose "settings"
The setting menu is a "slide to the right" type menu. I used "light" , enable light, choose a color, etc. I chose dark blue to match the icon.
So now, I have a dark blue "Voicemail" icon in my apps, and Lightflow makes it chime the sound I chose and lights up the LED at the top of the S9, in dark blue, and it blinks, so I know a voicemail is there. It also shows up on the notification panel.
I have a link for the apk in another another XDA thread, here. This link takes you to the discussion, and the apk is about halfway down. Look for the "scrunch" symbol. I didn't do it this way, loading the apk, but I gather it works.

[Q] Gmail.......

can anyone point me to the direction on getting a different color "GMAIL" Widget..besides the "RED" one.....HTC EVO......Thank you....
get a custom rom?
Gmail Unread Count is on the market. You can change colors from the settings menu.
Gmail Label Notifier from the market works great, you can customize almost everything and set up seperate notifications for individual labels, you can even use a custom image for the icon. Give it a shot you wont be dissapointed.

Help with K9 mail is there a good thread or forum for this software?

I installed K9 Mail. wow am I impressed with this. I mean really impressed.
I have 5 issues. I am wondering if there is a FORUM anywhere for K9 ??
#1 Sound notifications. it plays one for EVERY single message that comes in. is there a setting anywhere (I looked did not find one) to make it only announce ONCE until I check the mail like gmail does?
#2 When I click the icon to open K9 it goes to the menu with 3 options.
Unified Inbox
All Message
gmail (my account)
I never EVER want to see this screen. now it has an option to check for "goto unified" when you starup but it appears to have no effect.
when I click the "notification" in the status bar it goes directly to unified.
but when I click a shortcut to the k9 application 100% of the time it loads that menu first and I have to then click Unified Inbox to goto mail.
anyway to fix this?
#3
I have mine set for VERY TINY text. I LOVE that I get so much info on the screen really love it.
problem is I can not tell the difference between "read" and "not read" messages. is there anyway to differenciate it more?
I am using the dark theme.
there is a difference. read is offwhite unread is bright white but its VERY hard to make this distinction on the screen at this font size.
#4 some message have a "gray" highlight over the entire message entry on the list. What does this mean?
in relation to #3 this would be PERFECT for distinguishing read and unread. ie grey highlight for unread no grey highlight for read (this is now how its being used now)
#5 There is a BLUE BAR at the top that says Unified Inbox # etc.. etc..
is there anyway to remove this? its useless info I just don't need and would rather it goaway (I could see it being useful if you had multiple mail boxes but I don't)
any help would be greatly appreciated.
besides these quirks (and they are rather minor quirks for the most part) I and FLAT OUT impressed. Hard core. with this program.

☆☆ (MOD/HOW TO) Make the "FLASHLIGHT LED" as another Alert/notification......

☆☆ (MOD/HOW TO) Make the "FLASHLIGHT LED" as another Alert/notification......
Ok for ANYONE wanting to make the LED on the FLASHLIGHT light up as a notification.
ALSO this is my first try at making a thread on "HOW TO" so bare with me please...
**First preferably (root) I think makes the phone run smoother but NOT required**
Now you need 2 apps. Flashlight Alerts and FLNotifier.
FLASHLIGHT Alerts-- is also paid or FREE! from the Market
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...xLDEsImNvbS5ycnNsbGMuZmxhc2hsaWdodEFsZXJ0cyJd
FLNotifier -- is also either paid or FREE from the Market
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...SwxLDEsImp1ZzZlcm5hdXQudXRsLmZsbm90aWZpZXIiXQ..
Next install them both!
Now to get FLNotifier to work fully you'll need to "ENABLE" the (ACCESSIBILITY) option/feature on the phone.
Settings>Accessibility> Enable/Check Accessibility> Enable/Check FLNotifier and Flashlight Alerts.
Now go to the Flashlight Alerts app in your app drawer and once the app opens, enable/check "Incoming calls" and "New text messages" or which ever you want to flash.
Flashlight Alerts will NOT continue to notify you if you missed the call or txt after a certain time... That's were FLNotifier comes into play.
Now for FLNotifier you MUST have Accessibility ENABLED. Go to the app in your app drawer and once the app opens, you can enable/check which app you want to have the Flash light up to. To get mine to work with just alerts and messaging I clicked the "Show System Apps" at the bottom left and scrolled through till i found "Alert Recipients" and "Messaging" and Enabled/Checked just those 2.
Finally you can click the "Defaults" tab at the top right and mess with the options of flash ratings and repeat notification flash for how many times and repeat intervals ETC...
If you have any questions you can pm me or email me.

Hope you all enjoy!

FAQ from the website
I installed the app but the icon doesn't show up in my app tray. What can I do?
If this happens on your phone, the only solution we found was to use Nova Launcher because it has a feature that allows you to run a specific activity within an app. To set this up:
Within Nova Launcher, long-press on the home screen.Choose "Shortcuts"Select "Activities"Find "Google Dialer" in the list, then tap to open it up, and select "Phone" (use the first one in the list)
This will put a shortcut to the dialer on your home screen. At this stage, you can use this to access Google Dialer. It's not the cleanest solution, but it does work.
Can I disable my default dialer?
The short answer is no. As a general rule, you will need to keep your present dialer enabled in order to receive calls. The long answer is that on some phones you might be able to disable your stock dialer, but on others you definitely cannot. Feel free to try it on your own device and let us know what your results are.
(I disabled the first phone apk of the 2 that show up (flashing adds another one and I had it A-Z order))
EDIT: After disabling the APK, when I select "Call" the phone doesn't show any call screen whatsoever, and still has a call going, (mic works, and you can call, but the only way you can hang up is to leave the app and click the extended notification)
Again, this is all them!

Question Little dots on Apps missing on new messages

Hi there!
I don't know how they are called in the english original, but on my P6P I really miss the little dots e.g. on the Mail App when there are new messages.
In my options it has this option and it is on, but there aren't any of these dots. I really miss them, cause so you always have to pull down to see where there's something new when you are already using your phone.
Anyone a conclusion for me?
In the GMail app? I can't picture the dots.
That's called "Notification dot on app icon" and can be found in System Settings --> Notifications, down near the bottom.
It can also be turned on and off on a per-application basis by going into the application specific notification settings at System Settings --> Notifications --> App settings --> {whatever}, and switching on/off the option to "Allow notification dot" at the bottom.
But personally, I dislike this "feature". If the application notifies you, then why not click it instead of running around through your menus trying to find the one with the dot?
Thank you for the right name of what I'm looking for
But no I don't run around looking for these dots, I just open the phone and mostly there are WhatsApp or Mail news and I always have to look inside to see if there's anything new when I don't want to swipe down for my notifications.
The Settings are all set, but there are no dots for me!
Don't know if this matters, but I use the Nova Launcher.

Click to collapse
You need to allow notification access in Nova for the dots or badges to appear. Go into Nova settings > Notification Badges and then tap the message at the bottom of your screen to enable read access to notifications.
You can also check if notifications have been disabled by going into System Settings > Notifications > Device and App Notifications and checking if Nova is enabled or disabled.
The hint with the settings brought me to the solution I think. It seems you need Nova Launcher Prime for the dots
