Substratum on rooted stock? - Google Pixel 2 XL Questions & Answers

Keep trying custom roms, but performance issues keeps bringing me back to stock.
Anybody get substratum going on March stock? I get compile errors.
Thanks!

I believe you need to reboot and then enable the overlays again from what read somewhere on these threads.

Wolfeyes30 is correct. On stock rooted, it's best to compile(build and update) 3-4 overlays at a time. You likely won't see them in the manager menu until after you reboot. Then go back to the substratum manager and enable them :good:

[Q] changing icons (or launcher) on Sense? (Unicon not working?)

Please forgive the n00b question; I have never used anything but stock Android and CM, and I'm trying to give Sense fair shake.
I am running stock, rooted Sense. I don't care for the Phone icon and would like to replace it with the stock KitKat icon.
I tried Unicon, with multiple icon packs, but after restarting everything the icon hasn't changed. Does Unicon only work for GPE?
I understand that I could accomplish this by using a different launcher which supports it, but doing this appears to break the slider shortcuts on my lock screen.
My questions then, are:
1.) Is it possible to change the phone icon without using a different launcher (or an app that just creates a shortcut with a different icon)?
2.) Is it possible to install a different launcher that doesn't break the lockscreen, or replaces the lockscreen entirely?
Thank you.
It's probably because the system files are protected (even with root).. Install this module:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701816
I have Unicon installed and it's working for me. Sense 6.0 on the Developer Edition phone.
That makes sense. Thanks!
I can't get it working on rooted RUU Rooted GPE with xposed? any ideas

I've installed the Xposed Module 'Unicon' and when I apply a theme it doesn't apply to my phone on reboot.
Rooted GPE RUU M8.

Help installing team blackout apps

So I just upgraded to 7.1.1 and am running twrp rc1 and rooted with sr5.
Has anyone had success installing blackout apps? I've tried flashing calender, duo, and YouTube, but none of them work. I made sure updates were uninstalled or the app was deleted before flashing through twrp and it still doesn't work.
I am doing that very same thing and like Micmars told me,,,,most of these apps you have to extract from the zip and place in their respective folders, set permissions and reboot,,,,only ones I am having a problem with is calendar and inbox,,,everything else works.

I tried installing these and they would just make apps fc. Then I applied Substratum theme and bricked. Had to restore to factory image..

Far as I know swift black is the only one that works
I'm running Swift Black Substratum on 7.1.1. The theme engine is easy to use and works off stock apps. No need to install theme ready gapps.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.brit.swiftblack.layers&hl=en
Thanks for the info. It's funny because I tried using Substratum a few weeks ago and it wasn't ready for the Pixel so I got stuck in a bootloop and had reflash my phone at 2am. So glad it works now. Thanks again!

Make sure you pick 7.1.1 Pixel in Substratum when applying the theme and the theme has to support 7.1.1.

Going to try it, thanks. I knew it was just a matter of time.
I have to get updated to 7.1.1 first but that's no big deal.
Yeah I was able to get it installed....works well. Had some random FC of system UI.....but other than that.....running pretty smooth. Black and Dark are both 7.1.1 compatible

[Help] Android 8.1 OTA Sideload - Settings Keep Crashing

Hi,
I just sideloaded 8.1 (coming from 8.0). Things went smoothly and in the recovery mode, my phone is now listed as 8.1.
My problem is that whenever I try to go on settings now, it always crashes. I did attempt to redownload the OTA and sideload it again, but that still didn't help. I'm not sure what I did wrong...
Solved: Never mind I was an idiot. Forgot that I had substranum theme on, and it didn't play well with 8.1

Hey thanks for trying to help but I figured it out. I forgot that I had substratum theme installed. That didn't like 8.1 apparently. I uninstalled it and it's working fine now

I think so, if I would have known not to install anything with GP it would be much easier now to do.

Are you trying to install google pay while rooted? If so you need to unroot before you install Pay. You will also need to hide Pay from root using magisk hide.

Nope. However, if your just testing to see if your app works without root, I'd dirty flash your rom, then flash twrp again and let it boot up. You won't have root, but all your modules will still be there if you want to root again :good:
Thanks Badger!
Well I disabled all overlays except for Android system because I cannot undo it without root and still having issue with drawing over. Unable to hit the next button after after entering my three digit code and agreeing to the terms and conditions.

Can you block the Pie update?

Hi folks,
I have some apps that I am using that are not compatible with Pie yet and I do not want to update.
How can i make sure I don't update until i'm ready?
Thanks.
well, beyond simply not installing the update, go to developer options and turn off 'Automatic system updates'.

just wondering, is it possible to return to oreo v8.1 after updating to pie v9? Or is that not an option after installing the update? I don't want to get stuck on v9 if I have apps that don't work with that version yet... Thanks

You can if your fully bootloader unlocked, and do a clean fastboot installation of 8.1. And yes, your phone will need to be wiped :good:
