I have a pixel XL international version.I've owned it for a few days now. From the moment I got it the screen times out in 10 seconds. I've changed it all the way up to 30min but nothing works. I have searched a lot and can't find anything that helps solve this. Any help is appreciated.

It's usually an app. Have you factory reset it?
Yes I have. Three times to be exact. It's very strange. I'll start deleting apps and see if it helps.
I've uninstalled none of my thirty apps so far nothing. I restarted between each.
Well you know what the next thing to try is. Judging by your post count you already know. So yes after you try a factory reset (IF) that doesn't work the next step would be factory image. Not trying to be a smartass I swear. Just feel like you already know this.
I know. I was just hoping it was something simple I was missing. I may build pure fusion for it anyway. Thanks mate.

Np. Keep in mind that sometimes malware can install itself into system so only a factory.img would fix it.

Hook it up to your PC and run March's Factory upgrade. Then go back and install any other items you want, ie, twrp, Magisk, etc. If you have things on your phone you want to keep, then open the flash-all.bat file and edit out the -w from it and save it, then open it again to make sure that the edit stuck.

I'm hoping that someone can help me with my wifes phone. I recently flashed the "update-cm-7.1.0-Supersonic-signed" file and everything has been running fine. Well today she brings me the phone and had 2 things going...wrong. First the entire screen was strobe light flashing but a reboot fixed that. The other thing is that in the upper right hand there is constant, changing lines of text. They will say things along the lines of 2.54/2.25/xxx, under that system_server and then com.android.xxx. Will be anywhere from 3 lines to 6 and they change every 3 seconds. It's an HTC Evo 4g with running CM7.1.0 with the 2.6.37.6-cyanogenmod-01509-g8913be8 kernel.
I figure that I can always reflash but she's just got it set up and she doesn't really care for change lol. If anyone can try to help me I would greatly appreciate it.

Your comment on showing processing got me thinking and I finally found the problem. Somehow under developer settings, show running processes had gotten checked as well as show screen updates (I'm assuming that that was the strobe flashing as it did it again when I checked it). I unchecked it and all seems to be well again. Thanks for your time lreyes as I'm still learning how to work on unlocked phones.
BTW, can I change the forum location of this or does a mod have to do it. If it's a mod, would one of you be so kind as to either move or delete? I just really started using these forums and am trying to learn the ins and outs so please bear with me. Once again, thanks a lot.

I was fiddling with my phone settings and testing a few features. WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT ENABLE THE TALKBACK FEATURE.
After enabling this feature, my phone began to freeze on every screen while the voice assistant keeps speaking as I try to press anything on the screen. The entire phone just bugs out. Can't swipe or scroll. Can't select anything. Can't get to the settings to disable the talkback feature because I can't scroll. Can't do anything basically.
So, here I am with a brand new unusable HTC One M8. This is my 2nd NEW HTC One M8 that has defective software. My first one couldn't read any SIM cards after 3 new SIM cards were attempted by a T-Mobile rep.
Try factory reset.

Can't. As I mentioned, I cannot swipe or scroll. Factory reset requires scrolling to 'Factory Reset'. Not only that, I cannot select anything unless I get "lucky". The phone doesn't do anything I want it to do. I have a vid of the issue but I can't link it to this thread because I'm a new user.
If you have an HTC One M8, you can test this feature yourself and let me know if you run into the same problem but I warn you... if you run into the same problem, you will need to get it replaced and your phone won't work. Would be nice to know if this is a common problem but I'm not sure people are willing to take that chance and basically break their phone on purpose. It's like telling someone to press the big red self-destruct button to see what happens lol.
Factory reset from the bootloader..... and talk back works fine. And if it does fail on my phone i re install my rom, i love my unlocked, s-offed M8. Makes it all so easy

How do I do that exactly?
Wish I could show you the vid, then you'll understand exactly how impossible it is to do anything.

Nvm, I figured out how to factory reset when powering it on. I guess my Talkback feature is just unusable?

Sorry, I think you're misunderstanding my previous explanation. I cannot swipe nor can I scroll. I cannot select anything. The entire phone becomes bugged/glitched. You'd be amazed if you could watch the short video I made of it. It's more extreme than you think. Everything just goes haywire.
I'd like to say I'm a very tech savvy person since I do a lot of computer-related design, I can build computers, troubleshoot viruses, clean my registry, and "techie" things. I'm not just some average consumer who bought a phone and doesn't know how to use a smart phone. I'm very proficient with smartphones. With that said, there is seriously something wrong with the Talkback function. Enabling it almost feels like a virus is attacking the OS. I honestly don't need to use that particular function but what if one day I do or someone else might need to use it.
I actually got a new replacement yesterday and I'm not even going to touch that function whatsoever until I find some answers and a possible solution. I have everything synced to my new phone with my contacts, multiple email accounts, apps, social media, etc. and I'm not going to risk running into that problem and being forced to factory reset my phone. If you know the pain of having to reinstall your OS on a PC which I've done dozens of time throughout the years then you'll understand how painful that process really is because you have to reinstall all your software again.
I found another bug on my new phone as well and made a thread about it already. +/- for Selfie Mode doesn't work. Just greaaaaaat.

u need to use 2 fingers when scrolling
LOOOOL...ROFLLLLL...
I remember the first time I ever turned talkback on. "Panic" should be included as an official feature. Obviously, like our friend here, I didn't bother to read all the operational instructions that came with it, and thought for sure I had killed my phone.
Hint: you really have to use "2 fingers" to go anywhere!
Cheers

Ok so here's the story. My wife had an S8 kept freezing took every single app off, factory reset, cleared caches everything that I could think of we have tried. So traded up and got her the Note 8 well the same exact thing is happening. Does anyone have any ideas. I just took the SD card out to see if it was that. So we'll see. Some one has to know what's going on. Verizon has no clue as usual. Next thing I will try is a new Google account.
Thank you in advance hope some one can help me.

What's freezing specifically? What are you doing before it does it? Are you using any app package disabler?
I found this video on YouTube. This is exactly what's happening. I'm not using any app disablers or anything like that. She just wakes up in the morning and it's frozen just like in the video.
I saw some comments on that video about the AOD so I changed hers to a different clock to see if that will also fix it. I also uninstalled Samsung pay as that was another comment on there.
BTW her phone is stock no root.
So, I flashed the Sept. Pie update WITH the -w. Some things were being screwy so it just needed to happen. So, got the phone setup and started the restore from Google backup. It's been sitting at the same spot (like barely any color on the left side...) for almost 3 hours now... Has this happened to anyone else? I don't see the option to restore in settings, maybe it's just not showing because it's currently trying to restore, but, I think I need to start it over if possible. Never had this problem during setup, so, I'm not sure it is. It also has never taken 3 hours to complete, let alone hardly do anything.
Let me know if anyone has any know on this!

9. I rebooted the phone and still could not find an option to restore. Even Google'd it. Nothing. Doing a factory reset now. So stupid. Why would there not be an option to restore in settings? Only immediately after a reset? Bah
It appears the second reset and setup/restore is working. Weird. Anyway, glad it's actually going to work! I thought I might be setting it back up completely.

But i had some weird similar things as well lately.
Makes you wonder if google does this on purpose to make the Pixel 3 more attractive? lol

If this were a Samsung phone, I would say absolutely to that. But, nah, I don't think so. Pie just came out, there's probably a few little weird bugs left to fix yet.
Now I can't get my Gear S3 to finish setting up though... I thought the compatibility was fixed. Not sure what to do? God I can't wait for new Wear OS watches (with the new chip). No more Samsung for me ever again.
This just happened to my phone for whatever reason. The bottom portion of my screen (where navigation is located) will not work any longer. I know the touchscreen is still working, because i can scroll down a website and it still will recognize touch but not if I am trying to use the navigation buttons. I have tried gesture, 2/3 button but none of them work. I even flash a stock image (didn't do a full wipe just unrooted it) to see if this would fix. If anyone has a fix for this please let me know.
Thanks!

I came here to see if anyone else was having the same issue! Yes, i have to hit the docked icons several times before they open. wasn't an issue a day or two ago......
Sucks but glad to see i'm not alone. must've been some kind of play services update or something that broke it.

It's very annoying. I figured something happened with my root, but i unrooted and problem still persists. Basically unusable as i have to go back through apps instead of going home .

Yep having the same issue. The dock icons aren't always working, but the screen does because I can still scroll everywhere.
I also noticed that not all of my screen is being used. I black bar bezels on the sides of my screen. Looks like a full reset is inbound when I get home.
Ok, i was on plays services 19.4.20 and updated to the beta and now this is fixed!
Here is the beta version from apk mirror: https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/google-play-services/google-play-services-19-5-28-release/google-play-services-19-5-28-120400-273329419-android-apk-download/
you can install this app to quickly check your version. it used to link right to apk mirror but they took the functionality out unfortunately: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.weberdo.apps.serviceinfo
whew - glad that was an easy fix! hopefully it doesn't auto-update and break it again or something.
This has been going on with me since a mid september update. JUNK PHONE this pixel 3!!! First phone by google that I really hate. Contacted google about that, they asked me to clear all cache from the UI, play, etc... I still have the same issue...
I have stock, no root.
