Root without pc? - Google Pixel 2 XL Questions & Answers

I have given up trying to root it on my PC. I just cant get the PC to recognise my phone.
Question in title.
I have unlocked the bootloader successfully but can't get any further than that. I'm new to this so sorry for the newbie question. Gotta start somewhere!

You can't, you need your PC(or someone else's) with ADB and fastboot.

It could be something as simple as a USB cable or port hindering you, especially if your using a laptop. Do you have your adb/sdk up to date. It's definitely recognizing your phone somewhat, or else you wouldn't have been unable to unlock your bootloader. More details would help us help you my friend :good:

The USB cable is probably the culprit. Try a different USB cable, preferably the one that came with the phone.

That would be assuming he has a USB-C port on his computer.

You would still need a male A to male A cable that it didn't come with.

[Q] Unroot and relock bootloader with broken USB port

Hey guys.
My GNex's USB port recently stopped working, so is there any way to get it back to stock (for warranty purposes)? Would adb wireless work?
Thanks in advance.
I'm guessing downloading mobile Odin and finding a stock image to flash. All done from your phone.
Edit: I don't know if you can relock your bootloader. Will any terminal app helps.

I doubt one can lock their bootloader from mobile terminal due to that fact that oem lock is from fastboot. But then again, I may be wrong.
it's impossible! sure you can access adb over the network but the bootloader is only configurable trough the usb with fastboot. seems like you need to fix your usb port to relock the bootloader :-/

Ok thanks, that's what I thought and feared.
I'll go and try to get it exchanged with the bootloader unlocked then, and hope for the best.

How did the replacement go? I'm in the same sort of situation... I plugged my phone in tonight and the power port shorted, burnt the end of the charge cable and needless to say the port no longer works.
I'm debating going through Bell Warranty or using the Insurance coverage which comes with a charge. Gotta love the UNLOCKED Icon when you boot the phone :|

Well after using mobile odin to flash stock images, the usb port magically started working again, although only partially, and I could relock the bootloader, so I don't know what would have happened with it unlocked.

strange, glad it worked out for you! I went for the replacement phone through the Bell insurance option, It'll be here within 3 business days. Given my power port is physically burnt I'm not so lucky.

Can I revert back to stock without a computer?

Can I revert back to stock without a computer (just like it was when I first bought it, locked bootloader and all)? I don't have access to my computer at this time and want to revert back to factory stock all from my phone. Is this possible? Any links to assist with this?
Thanks.
to get to a stock rom yes it's possible. you will not be able to lock the bootloader as far as i know.

A couple of people have posted similar threads and no, there is no way to lock the bootloader without a computer.
One user who was trying to send his phone in with a broken USB port actually tore his phone down and ghetto rigged his USB port to work...lol.

Heh... I'm in a very similar situation. Could you actually send me a link to post? I'd really like to lock the bootloader before I sent the phone in. Desperation is seeping in!

Root without micro-USB port

It's possible root my Xperia Arc without using the cable? My port don't work, the pins are broken.
I can connect to it by SSH, but idk if this helps...
Thanks.
Only if you have unlocked bootloader or a recovery(CWM) installed in the ROM's /system folder.
1st can not be done without micro-USB port, 2nd can be installed via Play Store.
Hmm, if the phone wasn't updated to latest gb or ics (no need to downgrade via flashtool) maybe it is possible to use wireless adb.

I have the last version of official ICS of Sony.
It's possible to connect with ADB wirelessly without root, but I need to pair it before, connecting it with USB, and that's not an option for me.

You don't need usb for wireless adb. But! You are updated so it won't help
[email protected] S
Just like they said, try wireless adb and execute script by bin4ry. With a little amount of luck you may succeed.
And BTW, thread moved to Q&A
Its possible do it with a non-rooted phone without conecting it before?? How can I do it? I didn't found a solution...
EDIT: See my next post.
I didn't found anithing about this. Its impossible connect with ADB by wireless if you are not root or you don't pair the device with the cable. I searched about this on Google hundreds of times, and there's no way!! If anyone another way, post it here pls.. But i repeat... i didn't found anything...

Well if you found nothing, no one else going to, so looks like the answer to your original question, is no.

I said before - you have updated phone so nothing to do without flashtool downgrade. I forgot that wireless adb need root - my mistake.
Another way - repair phone. Don't waste more time trying, someone will install new usb port in few minutes for few $.

Have you tried "z4root"?

This apk here is designed to allow you to obtain an adb connection without a usb cable/connection.
Sounds like this could help you. I hope it does.
that only works for adb with device booted. it wont work for flashing the devices system, data, and so on.

Updating my rooted phone without an A to C cable (safely)

Hey guys,
I want to update my 5X(7.0, NRD90M) to the September security patch(7.0, NRD90R). I'm currently rooted with TWRP installed. How do I go about doing this? I can't attach to my PC and use the android SDK thingamajig because I don't have an A to C cable. Is there any way to do this on my phone without a PC, or perhaps wirelessly with my PC?
Oh, and, updating and taking the OTA like I normally would does nothing. It tells me the update is downloaded, but when I try to install it, it boots into TWRP and does nothing
Thanks in advance!

Just buy the proper cable and flash a full stock rom (bootloader and radio, boot, system) in fastboot and reroot, afaik you need a non-modifed stock rom to flash an OTA fil.

I understand this is an option, but is there no other solution? I don't have a need whatsoever for an A to C cable currently. If I'd have to buy one it would be just for updating. If this is my only option I think I'll just stick with my current version of Android until I can loan a USB-C PC or something. I don't think I'll spend $15 on a cable I'll only use once a month :/
