Hi
Please post the time it takes for you to charge the phone from 0 to 100 when it is not being used and is on standby also the mention the update you have
my phone takes 2 hours with 1.28 update
That is a good time. With my New one i need also 2h. With the old one x i needed more than 6h

The first charge was about 6h!! (Wallcharger , not USB)
I don't know how it is now. I plug the phone to the wallcharger in the evening and unplug it at the next morning

That's what I do as well but I don't think its the best way to charge the phone as sometimes I wake up in the middle if the night and the phone is close to exploding from the heat it generates while charging.
But as how fast it charges, I think around 2 hours for me too. USB takes a little longer, I'd say about 5-6 hours.

Your phone is overheating from charging? Something wrong. Mines very cool, basically like its turned off or idle.
Takes a while to charge fully though

2hr 50mins from 'completely dead' (phone turned off and remained off till charged )

I think that's pretty darn good!

Actually i think it's ok if it gets a bit warm when charging BUT it should cool all the way down when getting to fully charged.
I always plug mine in overnight... I wish I could specify a slow charge to prolong battery life. No idea how long it takes to charge.

There's no need for it. The charger stops at 100% and goes into battery mode until 95%, then starts charging again. It never approaches overcharging at any point. This is also why sometimes when you unplug your phone, it drops a few percent almost immediately, cos 100% battery was already achieved some time ago, and has been on battery the last few %

I think you are right. It does happen to me sometimes when the battery is showing 100% and once unplugged and used for a few minutes it drops pretty quickly.

hehe i know i orginally said that i was getting 2 hours(this was the first charge cycle of the phone )
but now it takes me 3 hours for a full charge this is after the 1.28 update
going to add here, go to settings and power and check the status if it says (charging - USB) then it will charge slow for me it's 20% an hour from a USB. I also have a charger cable (has plugs for iStuff, micro USB/ mini USB and that tiny one for Nokia) and when that it plugged in it says (charging - AC) and its a lot faster.
2.5-3 hours max
charger = 5v 1a
2.5 hours here
Thanks for the thread. It also takes mine just under 3 hours from completely dead and I was thinking that was on the long side. (My Atrix 4G used to take 2 hours.)
HTC One X/AT&T
Charge time from 5% is about 3h
Hello,
i own an htc one x and the charge time are usually around 3-4.5 hours. now granted many say their average charge time for this phone is about the same. but what bugs me is that i charge my phone with a 5v+/- 1 amp charger in a 110v 50hz socket.
i have an app that measures battery usage, charge times and the amount of mAh being used or stored @ a given time interval. now when i charge the phone through the 110v socket i get 386 mAh the max from the socket. where as at my school we use 220v sockets (i have both connectors for my phone) and i get easily 895 mAh reducing charge time to just over 2 hours. so my question is.
the specification on both chargers is:
+/- 5v 1amp
so even if there is a difference in sockets both still list 1amp. so why do i only get under 400(386)mAh at home and just under 900(895)mAh at school?
btw. noob. if im in the wrong section plz redirect me. only board that looks close to what i need
Guys this issue is annoying me. My device is having some charging problems. I have measured the charging time for last two charges, and its taking 3 hours 40 mins for 10% to 100%, and 4 hours from 0% to 100%. Where most people are saying it takes around 3 hours, from a complete drain to full 100%.
So have any of you guys ever measured the actual time of charging? A lots of comments I see say around this or around that, or from 2 hours to 3 hours, well that's not what I need. If anyone has measured the time then please post here. I'm thinking about going to SC, but I don't wanna go there until I'm totally sure that there is a problem.
PS: I'm talking about Stock charger, (2A) plugged in AC power source. And device should be on, not off.
Btw- There should be a technical answer to this, the charging current is 2A and the battery is 3100 mAh, so how could I do the math?
Thanks in advance.

I don't know the math stuff but why don't you try calibrating the battery - worth trying !
Knowing that info is only half the truth. How the phone charges the battery and how much energy your phone uses during the charge matters too.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk 2
The time taken to charge is a pretty simple mathematical formula. But the rest of the calculation is complicated.
If you phone is on, how bright is the screen, is the display on or off, are you on wifi or network data, are you syncing email every 15 minutes or every hour, are you using the phone to send messages during charge, have you got gmail, dropbox, facebook, instagram, whatsapp, etc etc etc all doing a sync at regular intervals during the charge?
All of those things will use up some of the charge as its going in, so the charger is fighting against you.
I've been charging off usb at work and struggled to gain 20% in 8 hours because of my usage pattern.
Theoretical time for charge is about 1:30 hrs. Reality, start and ending charge should slow down (for safety), heat slow downs, plus usage of phone as spoken above I guess it could take up to 3 hrs.
It's not great to do a full charge regularly. I tend to keep mine between 40-90% for maximum life cycle of battery.
Perhaps try resetting battery stats? Try a different 2a charger?

Mine takes 2.5 hrs to charge from 10% to 100% with phone on using stock wall charger and cable (when charged continuosly with no activity on phone). It charged from 1% to 96% in 2.5 hrs with phone switched off (switched it on exactly after 2.5 hrs to check). But, usually i avoid charging my phones to full 100% (also always charge it when at 10%).

Try with another note 2 charger first. The thing with these chargers is they will behave erratically when there is voltage fluctuation or if you use in a train and other cases. So go to SC and tell them its taking almost double time for me to get charged. They will replace the charger as well the cable. My cousin has the same problem with s3. He got it replaced by the SC.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk 2
Thanks Chaitanya. But the SC guys are so stupid here. First thing they do always are to take the phone in their custody and deal with it badly. Still I will ask them to replace the charger and check.
Some of us have noted that if you let the screen time out and not manually shut screen off after connecting the charger. ..The charging is faster. . If you manually shut off the screen. .. The charging is slow.... It is weird but don't know why. .it definitely is happening

Op: I said theoretical it will take 1:30.. Realistically it should slow down during stages due to safety reasons.
Mine took probably 3 hours the other day I ran it down, but this was combination of using 1a and 2a charger.
I think on the note 2 it doesn't ramp up power till it gets to 20-30%. Took a while to get there from 2%. If only battery widget was working on the note 2..then I could confirm.

Are you using the charger that came with Note2 ? I was using my old blackberry charger and it took for ever to charge the phone.
The output of the Note2's charger is more than twice the output of my blackberry charger.
^ Yeah, of course I am using the stock charger that came with Note 2! I'd not create this topic if I had used another charger.
Anyway, after a long week in Service Center now my phone is back, they provided me a new charging adapter (not the cable) and I was very happy because I thought everything will be smooth and like before but guess what? No improvement. It's still taking long! I just measured it for 30 mins exactly, it went from 70 to 83%, i.e 13%, where it should be 24% as stated in this thread,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=33585646&postcount=31
Now I am really angry. I will try with another Note 2 USB cable first, if that fails, there is something wrong with the device, I guess?

I really don't think it's your device or your battery for that matter. I have a question as well (sorry to hijack...). When you were charging it for 30 mins, were you using it? Was the screen off or the phone totally turned off? I noticed one night that I had an email notification and the phone did not charge because the notification LED was on all night while I slept and it was plugged into my 1A Samsung charger from my original Note. I have yet to check if the charging disconnects itself if the LED comes on. I don't even know if the phone charges at all if the screen is on either. Can anyone confirm? I guess I'll try it out tonight! The battery last forever I got to admit, perhaps most of the time I'm slow charging it at 1A max with the original Note's charger? I guess it does the battery some good
Thanks a bunch!
No pal I am not using the device while charging (because I am testing and measuring the times, that's why I restrain myself from touching it), and it's on, not off.
Anyway, yesterday I went to a friend's home and found he has a Samsung ACE and has same USB port like Note's and I was carrying the charging adapter, so I took that Ace's cable and plugged in to my Note's adapter and let it charge for an hour, and I was amazed and happy to see that it increased 38% in 60 mins. Well this tells me that the USB cable of my Note 2 is gone to heaven.
And oh, if you charge and use the device at the same time it will charge pretty fast even then too. I can confirm this when I first got the device, always was using it and charging, and I was surprised to even then how fast it was charging.
I (and many other users) have similar problems with Galaxy S3. I've made an app that shows the actual charging current: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2076078
I'm not sure if it works on the Note 2, but it is worth a try.
Please check if your device is charging at the optimal charging current (I think it is 2000mA for the Note 2 charger, instead of 1000mA as pointed in the SGS3 thread).
Anyone having an issue with their phone only charging to 98%? It will only each 100% if I unplug it for a bit once it reaches 98% and then plug it back in.

not seeing that on mine.
It does this by design. It prevents battery damage and prolongs battery life (in terms of life expectancy and usability over years).

that happened top me on my first charge
just give it a couple charges it will start going to 100
I have to say battery life is great for me on pixel 2 xl. every time i charge it will go all the way to 100 %.
Hmm, I've charged it overnight for awhile now and it still won't get to 100%. It'll say that it's fully charged but will just show 98%
Experienced the same thing on my Pixel 2 XL. I did manage to fix it by powering the phone off for 10mins with it plugged in/charging. Once rebooted it showed 100%. Otherwise it will stay at 98 or 99% forever...
Strange thing happened yesterday. It finally charged to 100% and 5 minutes later I unlock the phone and its back down to 99% while still plugged in to the OEM wall charger (showing charging rapidly).
Copy and paste from my post in the Real Life Review section:
I would leave my 2 XL charging overnight (stock charger and cable) and when I wake up around 7-8 hours later, the percentage would either be 97%, 98%, or 99%. I've rarely seen my phone go to 100% since getting it on the 18th.
Whenever the battery hits 50% and I go and charge it mid-day, it would take a painfully long time to charge up after around the 85% mark (the general consensus and expected). I would check and it would be at 99%. After around 10 minutes, I check again and it shows 98%.
Needless to say, I disabled "show battery percentage". If the battery icon is full, then it's 100% to me.
I have this with my 2 xl too. It'll stop at 98-99, and if I unplug/plug back in a few times or reboot a few times it'll eventually get to 100. But it'll drop from 100 only after a few minutes even unused. Not sure if by design or a minor hardware issue.
Mine was charging overnight to 100% now for the last 2 or 3 days it's only been going to 98% overnight. Battery life is still good though.
I was wondering of was something to do with Battery Stats, maybe needs cache cleared or resetting somehow.
Actually I cannot even get mine to charge to 100%

Actually I cannot get mine to charge to 100 percent except two charges ago. That being said there must be something wrong as using the white charger and cable to go from 2% - 98% it took more than 5 hours ! I cannot get it to go past 99 % and I have been charging with phone off then with on and then according to Google support tried safemode but still no difference. Highly frustrating for a $1k phone. I finally shut phone off for the last 20 minutes and then checked the charge and it is now at 100% but what a battle and a SLOW SLOW charging phone.
I never charge mine to 100%, I usually take it off the charger around 85%. Not had any battery problems, don't think it's ever necessary to hit 100%.
I've had the opposite. Wake up it's 100. Listen to music on the way to work for about an hour (bluetooth). When I get there it is still 100 percent. Put it in pocket for another hour, check phone, 96%.
I turned off my phone when plugging it in last night hoping to make this go away.
When I turned it back on this morning... still only 98%...

I have a issue with my pixel 2 XL charging slow, usually taking 4-6hrs to charge from 15-20 to 100%. I had google troubleshoot it but seems nothing can fix the issue. They asked me to replace my phone twice and I even got new cables and adapter but the same issue alerts occurs again and again. I even tried switching ports and tried outside my house but the charging time is still slow. I even tried in safe mode and still same behavior. Any advice that i could do good with?
Thank you!!
Same here. Went from @ 2 hours to fully charge to now taking 5-8 hours and won't charge at all while being used. Google issued an RMA but the link hasn't worked yet. Talked with 2 other Google reps and no one can figure out the problem. I'm doing advance replacement so I won't be without my phone for 2 weeks.
Hi, i was experiencing the same problem, but I have this workaround and is working, this battery is Li-Ion, so they don't like cold temperatures, install AccuBattery and check battery temperature before charging, try to warm up the battery to 23° or higher to start the fast charging (PD) capability of the Pixel 2 XL, this have worked for me everytime.
Doesn't work. Accubattery is how I knew how slow mine is. 490mA charging versus my daughter's 5x at over 1400mA. My battery is 86°F right now and nothing is different. Tried that after seeing the article last week. Seems mine changed after the February update.
Im experiencing this as well, rather annoying.
From my personal experience I have noticed that my device usually charges at around 3000-3400Mah while the screen is off, once the screen is turned on though it will drop to 1000 or below. This is a feature to keep temperatures down. What does accubattery say your screen off charge rates are? I will also add that I am on a custom ROM.
Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using XDA Labs
Accubattery shows average of 491 for screen on and screen off.
I noticed that when I first plug in the charger, accubattery shows charging well over 1000mah but after a few seconds it drops back down to the 4-500 range. Temp seems to be irrelevant, it was in the high 90s when I noticed this.
I'm having this 5 hour charge issue as well, but I started using an old moto z play stock charger and the phone now charges in like 1.5 hours. Crazy.
I guess this Picel 2 XL "slow charging" issue is quite a known issue (kinda glad actually for finding out I'm not the only one)
But my problem is that this "slow charging" issue gets even worst, my Pixel 2 XL sometime wont charge at all at the first attempt in plugging in the charging cable. And Now I have to make sure the "charging" icon is there when I plugged the charging cable sothat it will keep on charging till full (kinda annoying actually)
This started to happen to me about a week ago, while before that it only took me 2 hrs or so for having a full charged. anybody else care to share their experience e.q. when this is start happening to you guys or does the "slow charging" attempt always sucessfully charged when you plugged the cable or not (like what Im experiencing right now).
Do you guys return your phone?
Thanks in advance...

Yes, the one that came in the box
I've had slow charging issues with all the custom roms. Plus the phone in with Ambient display, says slow charging. On a stock Rom, same thing, and it says Charging rapidly, and it charges faster.
Been posting on a few rom threads about this. All sorts of theories. Using stock charger/cable. They work fine with the stock OS installed.
After September update, my P2 XL is not charging beyond 98 (sometimes 99). Going to 100 if I power off after 98.
The issue not fixed till November update. So I have flashed fully with November update and now my mobile is charging fully (100%).
But the issue is the time taken for charging 100%.
0-1 hrs -> around 75%
1-2hrs -> around 96%
2- 2.5hrs -> 100%
For 100% , it is taking 2.5 hours (verified in safe mode also)
Update 1 - I have fully flashed with Android Oreo 8.1 July images and the mobile is taking 2 hours to charge fully.
0-1 hrs -> 82%
1-2 hrs -> 100%
Please share the full charging time with November update.
I have warranty but still it will take atleast 10 days for the service. So wanted to confirm if it is a software issue.
I have used stock adapter and cable.
I don't know about 2 hours taking 0-100% (I've never seen anyone claim that and never experienced it) because it's all ways been minimum 2 hours and 20 minutes for me. And when the phone first came out it was close to 3 hours. I have lots of screenshots showing this.
0-60 minutes has always been about 75% gained when starting around 5%. That last 25% to get to 100% always takes an hour and 20 minutes or so to do. That's why it's best to do only a top off charge of 60 minutes max if you need to during the day. Anything more is just a waste of time.
Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk
@sampathkumar2811 I have been dealing with a similar issue that I suspect started after I updated to Pie.
I remember full charge took around 2.45 hours until the October update and after November update I timed my full charge cycle with the stock cable and charger once and it was around 2.30 hours from 15% to 100% (charging status shown as "full" and not "charging"in the battery settings). So it's either something from my end or Google f*cked something up for us recently.
Anyways, 2.30 is close enough to what other users such as @EeZeEpEe are getting and that's good enough for me, I guess.
Ho, but what's the best way to charge or pixel 2 xl? Original charger with power delivery or an old charger with slow charge?

I do overnight slow charging with a USB-A to USB-C cable using a Samsung charging brick. If I need a top off, I use the stock charger or the charger from my 5X for an hour.

Sorry to (slightly) hijack the thread, but I have a slightly different charging issue and would love some advice. Nine times out of ten, I plug my 2XL into my Google charger and all is good - it'll say 'charging rapidly' and a minute or so later will give me the anticipated 'charging to complete' time and all is fine.
But around ten percent of the time it says 'charging rapidly' and the 'charging to complete' time DOESN'T come up and the phone trickle charges. Pretty much nothing happens. I've purchased a new Google charger and switched charging locations and checked that the location is warm and... it still happens.
I love my phone and in every other way it is perfect, so I'm not keen to send it in to be replaced. Can anyone suggest a fix, please? It's driving me crazy!
Thank you!
I've come to the forum because I wanted to ask for help, but seems that I'm not the only one.
Since I updated to november patch, charging is ssssllllllllloooooooooowwwwaaa (pronounce very slowly). It might be because the climate here is getting colder because of autumn/winter and my phone is actually cold when I hold it. Estimated time of charge: 4 to 5 hours. I thought this problem was solved in an older patch. Anyone knows whats going on? :|
I would go for the swap. Might be refurbished but at least it'll be a new battery. I've never had that or seen that issue.

This issue sounds familiar. I think it does charge better and faster if it's warmed up. It's cold indoors while your charging it? If so, what temperature? I would think it would have to be refrigerator temperature to get it to not charge quickly. Last winter I would charge it on a cold countertop and it did fine. Of course, being in Florida, the coldest indoor temperature I would get is in the upper 60s.
