I've been using LeeDroid romfor years but my M8 is now struggling badly with battery.
I was wondering, and struggling to find, any ROM's that play nicely on battery and resources to use the devices as a backup of sorts.
Had a search for the Sailfish OS that looks interesting but seems the M8's ROM support might be finally dying along with the phone.
Any suggestions?
1. You should've asked in Q&A section tbh.
2. There's not much that can be done about bad battery. I'd clean flash the rom again and do some undervolting and underclocking.
If you want to switch roms and want a sense based one then try a debloated stock rom - sometimes stock works best. ICE also had a good battery life.
If not sense based isn't an issue then there's plenty to go around - I think they'd be mostly the same with battery life, so pick whichever one you want - Oreo roms are new, Nougat roms are solid.
I'm currently on RR 5.8.5, did some underclocking and battery life is acceptable for such an old device.

I was wondering which rom out of the many available - is best in terms of battery life?? I didn't really want to start a whole new thread .. but i am looking for those here who have flashed most of the custom desire roms on XDA, I need a rom that manages battery better then most.

I'm pretty sure that you are going to have lots of answers. Unfortunately, each one, talking about one rom or the other will tell you that its rom is better that others.
I'm running a ROM developped by a single developper (Itanium 1.8 today) and the battery life is pretty good. Undervolt mod is included, several optimizations have been made for battery usage, but again, I'm pretty sure Cyanogen and OpenDesire (these are examples, not the only ROMs working fine I guess) are good at saving baterry life...
So I would say it's hard to tell, and the best advice would be for you to test several of these and find the one which best suits your needs... You might end with a ROM which might give you less battery life, but which would looks better for you and for your usage (Sense based, without Sense...).
Hope this makes sense.

thanks for the info bro I hope others will also post a comment. Although, as you said - opinions will dither, it will still be good to get an overall opinion from many XDA desire users.
Hi,
I'd appreciate some advice (having searched as best I can first, and without hijacking another thread) - I'm a Nexus One user (running CM6.1, and very happy with it), but my wife's Desire (currently unrooted stock latest OTA update) has a sucky habit of running the battery down to zero every so often when she's not using it and I've been thinking a custom ROM is the way to go. However, there's a lot of roms for the desire, and I can't work out which meets the requirements best:
1) Must appear to be a stock Sense rom to the user (she's just got used to the UI, and I don't want her to get flustered) - I'd like something that seems as much like the stock rom as possible please.
2) Best possible battery life (happy to try uv if it's unobtrusive)
Any replies very much welcome, ta.
Jim
I prefer not to say which ROM is better compared to other ROMs as I think it would be unfair on the developers who have put in so much hard work to bring us such a great variety of ROMs, but in terms of battery life, I would personally say that I had the best battery performance out of OpenDesire. The only problem though is that OpenDesire does not have Sense UI. With it, I was averaging about 2-3 days (depending on usage) use out of it before I need to put it on the charger. At that time, I was also running a different Radio (5.10.05.23).
If you really need Sense UI, then I would suggest LeeDroid's ROM as it provides pretty good battery life as well.
Have you considered the MIUI ROMs? they are pretty new and highly customisable, with an iOS like interface with widgets, also provide impressive battery life and are very stable.
I'm sure many would disagree with my findings but this is just based on my own experience of using these ROMs.
MasDroid,
Many thanks for the advice - I've gone with LeeDroid and it's worked like a charm. A well supported and stable ROM, which I'll recommend to anyone in the same position.
Thanks again!
J
I second MasDroid's opinion about LeeDroid ROM.
I am glad you're enjoying such a good ROM. Hope your wife is happy, i know how important that is
Once I am certain that my One X is fault free I want to Root and install a custom ROM on it. But I heard some feedback on another Thread that the custom ROM they were on was actually worse than the Stock ROM and they were going back to Stock.
What I would like is some feedback from current users of custom ROM's on the One X.
Whether you think it has improved your experience of using the One X?
What ROM you are on?
Is battery life improved?
What's not working?
Any other thoughts?
This is NOT a "What Custom ROM is best" thread, because that is down to individual preference. I just want to gauge whether I am gaining anything by Unlocking (voiding my warranty) and flashing custom.
Any thoughts apreciated....
I'm on Coredroid 2.0 for the last week and so far all is great, battery either better or the same, no issues, looks better than stock so I keep it.
I do have stock backup just in case but looks like I won't need it.
I'v been using Coredroid ROMs on my previous phones and always liked it so it was easy choice for me.
just to add i have flashed first Android Revolution and it blew me away. But now i am using LeeDroid and i highly recommend it due to the fact how well the Leedroid tweaks blend with the rom and how lite and fast it is for me that is.. Stock rom is good as well but with all the bloatware removed i am more than happy.
Battery life best always to judge over a few cycles but so far not bad my friend. I would go for Leedroid for now. and you have few nice mods in themes and apps to play with to.
Honestly many Roms are similar so bloatware removed, mods available. Just choose one you visually like

have to admit CoreDroid looks nice and visually eye candy material...looking forward when we get some good themes going as well
Took the plunge and have flashed Android Revolution HD, as I used that on my Sensation.
Hope my phone doesn't break now!!
not too impressed with arhd battery life. tried insertcoin tht wasnt very good either for battery but both emntioned roms very speedy. i think the three stock rom is optimized for our network 3g consumption and the reason three didnt release the 1.28 update like the rest is because of the radio [posibly and the network handling protocols within the rom.
hmmm im back on stock for now removed bloatware with titanium much much better just want a theme.
ics browser is better and and so it the phone app in my opnion would love them to be flashable like on my sensation but still keep sense!
Recently got a M9. Wanted to know your experience about the most popular rom for the M9. Viper, Leedroid, ICE... How to you like them? What is battery life and performance?
I don't care about customization so as long as a rom is fast, stable, and hold good battery life, I would take it.
Let me know if you could jump in and share your thoughts.
Thanks
p.s. I actually went ahead and flash leedroid 10 v3.9.0 stable.
The room is fluent but I can't get notifications....
Do you have Leedroid tweaks installed?
I'm using ViperOneM9 now, seems stable and good battery.
I'm using ICE M9 5.5.9,and i have tested Viper rom. I prefered ICE with great battery life, smooth fast, and without problems. Ice great rom.
I used viperOne before, great rom with good battery life... I hated all the preloaded apps in the rom
I personally chose viper as the best stock based ROM but I found battery standby by time suffered to extent and i barely managed to get 8 hours out of the battery.
It also has far to many options and tweaks for my liking.
I ran a development stock ROM based on 4.x firmware for a few weeks, and it worked fine.
I'm currently running lineage OS 14.1 after a spell running lineage 15, but although 15 is very good, its not fully stable and has no working camera and does randomly reboot at times.
I'm getting a solid 14 hours stand by on the battery using lineage 14.1.
I just find that the best (for me) at this time.
The bad part of aosp roms is camera and sound.
For me stock nougat is the best.
Hi
I have newly rooted G5 Cedric, I was happily using the stock rom with xposed and gravity box, which gave me pretty solid battery performance. But I missed a few tweaks and mods so I flashed the last release of RR, which is a 7.1 rom. I haven't gone to Oreo as I am using 32bit version twrp, and quite happy keeping that.
Problem is since installing RR, battery life is considerably worse than the stock rom, so I guess I will have to go back to that. Can anyone suggest a rom which looks and feels as nice as RR but can offer a more stock sounding performance when it comes to battery?
I have rom suggestions threads as much as anyone, so I apologise for that
Got to say since I switched to 64bit lineage I've not even thought about battery. Never use to last before even with battery friendly kernel optimization. Not setup any optimization since I upgrade to the latest 64bit lineageos and had a good run, screenshot of my phone just before replying to this.
