Hello, I've been experiencing lots of lag with both OxygenOS (and OOS ROMs) and custom ROMS.
I honestly don't know what's causing it, this is what I have installed that could ruin my performance:
So I made a list of all the apps I have installed, so you could help me figure out what's causing it.
Here's the list.

I usually buy everything I have and I use Lucky Patcher only for apps with intrusive nonremovable ads
And I'm pretty sure Xposed is not the problem as I'm not tweaking Android's UI in any way.
Try without greenify.
Use background restrictor from XDA labs instead.
I would also remove xposed. Xposed causes a lot of errors. This device does not lagg. On OOS with stock kernel. U cannot make it lag unless ur making it lag. Like messing around with the kernel etc. Custom ROMs are even smoother with flash kernel

Uninstalled greenify and installed backgroundrestrictor, I got a nice performance boost.
But I really need Xposed for XInsta so I'm gonna keep it unless I find an alternative.
Or can I just disable Lucky Patcher within Xposed and just keep the normal version, will it impact the system performance-wise?

If u can. Remove lucky patcher or at least from xposed.
If u need ad blocker. Use ad away. 0 performance impact.
I stopped using Lucky Patcher 2 years ago, when the official Xposed was released for every phone. Lucky Patcher itself contains many mods and tweaks, may conflict with user apps and system apps so Im sure it's no go for me.

I played around with the toggles (keep legit licenses, etc.) and found a happy spot, that's why I kept it.
I have this issue too. Doesnt matter what rom I try, I've tried 90% of them. Even on a clean flash, with just a few google apps, like on G+ it laggs like heck scrolling through the posts. Some roms are slightly better than others, also when trying custom kernels, if I install kernel auditor and just make 1 change, doesnt matter what, its like input boost gets enabled for all cpu's and they all jump to 1800mhz when i touch the screen. only way to get it to stop is to change the governor to conservative. It just seems like this phone is laggy by nature. lol that sounded funny.

I have installed OmniRom, with Greenify installed, flashed Fly-On mode, but the battery still drains REALLY fast, it just can remain 14h for normal use (SMS,Whatsapp, NO game!).
Is there any Rom, Patch or sth to make it better? Really annoying.
Go to a nonchinese Huawei official Firmware and don't ùpdate GooleServices.

Try Deep Sleep Battery Saver
I recommend to only install apps that you really need. The biggest battery drainers are Facebook and other social media apps such as snapchat and Skype. Also in greenify try to switch to boost mode, found in the experimental features section. You will need root and exposed framework installed for that.

PS: do you also have this weird picture in the YouTube app with all the colors messed up in the videos? Bc I have omni ROM too and I get this issue.

OK that's at least good to hear. I updated omni Rom to the latest version and suddenly the problem was gone. I also installed a newer version of gapps at the same time. But then AdAway, the YouTube ad blocker in xposed framework had an update and I installed the update. After that, YouTube is now messed up again. It doesn't help to uninstall adaway or reinstall YouTube.

Easily. Just about anything that is poorly developed can cause major slowdowns. For the most part, xposed alone does not cause slow downs, the older version did have some draining issues but that is resolved. Majority of modules are well made from my experience so I wouldn't worry too much there unless if you are getting some issues(Assuming you're not using the beta versions).
If you are, your best bet is slowly disabling one thing at a time and seeing any differences.
Sure. Xposed provides hooks that modules can intercept and modify calls that are made by the OS or the apps. A hook used by a badly designed module can cause all kind of bad things to happen, including lags and crashes.

Does Xposed slow down the phone or is it the combination of certain modules?
I've been using a T-Mobile H811 since launch and so does my girlfriend. The biggest difference between our two phones is that I've rooted mine as soon as I was able to and also installed Xposed Frameworks along with a few modules. For the most part, I've been pretty happy with the performance of my phone and have been able to shrug off the occasional performance stutter.
Recently, I was playing around with my girlfriend's phone and I noticed that it was a lot smoother than mine. I put our phones side by side and it was plain as day that her phone was a lot smoother when just swiping through panels in the settings menu. After that, I couldn't unsee how slow my phone actually was. Because of this, I concluded that it must be something Xposed related as that's the main difference between our two phones.
So that brings me to my big question: is it the presence of Xposed being installed that may have an adverse affect on a phone performance or is it having certain modules installed that affect the performance? Or maybe, just maybe, it was even the combination of apps that I keep installed that were at fault?
If you have any insight or opinions to share, I'd love to hear it. If you've been forever on Xposed like I have, maybe you don't notice the performance being any better or worse since that's just what you're used to seeing, but if you've use it on and off, maybe you'll have better insight into it?
I recently did a factory reset and opted not to install Xposed. For the couple of days, I think it's safe to say that my phone is running a lot better, but there are definitely a few modules that I miss. Most notably G4 TweaksBox and also Restore Notifications Ticker, though I'm also very fond of Flat Style Colored Bars (but if modules impact performance, I can see how this one might be the culprit.

My guess is that the number of modules and what modules you have would affect performance. In my opinion i think the modules that theme parts of the phone use the most memory. I used to have xposed and the tiny lag never really bothered me at but xposed just isnt for me. Maybe a list of modules you use would make the question a little but easier to answer.
It was explained by rovo89, that if you use modules, which are not updated to the latest xposed, the phone will lag, because of xposed using up the resources and your logcat will be also filled with errors. I think he wrote about this on his GutHub or the XDA thread. That said, I am using only 5 correct modules and the phone is fast as on stock.
theming modules like stana or fsb or others causing lag imo....but others which have single usage arent so power hungry...im not sure about gravitybox style modules...

The modules that I used where Restore Notifications Ticker, Flat Style Color Bars, G4 TweaksBox, SNAPPREFS, Spotify Skip, Pandora Patcher, Swap Volume Keys, and then enabled the Greenify Xposed options. Other than FSCB and the tweaks box, most aren’t changing much, but those are also my two favorite modules and probably do the most heavy lifting. And, like I said, the lag never really bothered me (since it’s what I was used to), but then I used my girlfriend’s phone without Xposed and immediately noticed the difference.

My lg g4 bootlooped recently so I sent it in and got another. I also got a Samsung S7. I have not rooted the new G4, but I have rooted and installed XPosed on the S7.
First thing that's immediately noticeable is how fast the stock LG G4 is. The LG G4 slaughters the rooted Xposed S7 in both performance and battery life. The G4 when it was rooted + Xposed was very laggy. This has prompted me to begin looking into the possibility that Xposed kills performance.
I'm only using 3 modules. MinMinGuard, Snapprefs, and YouTube AdAway. I think the issue is with the Xposed framework itself.
Just got this phone, rooted it with Magisk and installed Paranoid OS. Any good root apps to improve my experience? Or any tips & tricks for Paranoid OS?
I always install adaway and iYTBP module, the last allows background YouTube playback.
To be honest if you need a list like this then you most likely dont need root at all. Nothing personal but not everyone needs root nor should everyone have it. Not with the security concerns that come along with root.

The only reason I wanted to root was for better battery life, so I just wanted Magisk so I could get Greenify. I wanted to install XPOSED to get Adaway, but I found out that XPOSED breaks SafetyNet and there is no way to fix it currently, since XPOSED modifies system.

Root will not help battery life. Greenify is useless now as android puts the device right into doze the min the screen goes off. You dont need xposed to get adaway. You can use the standard apk for it. I use magisk but dont use a single modual at all as there really isnt one that is worth it to me. Xposed will always effect safety net. If you need to pass safety net then you are just better off staying stock.

Ah I forgot about Doze. First device that has it. (Or at least now it works) My old LG V10 was 6.0.1, but for some reason Doze never worked.

Doze was very basic back on 6.x To be honest I personally remove it from activating on my device. If I want a device to stop getting notifications then I will close it out. I hear it works great for those that use it, I just dont so I remove it all together.

On a side note, are there anyways besides Doze to improve battery life? Do other ROMs besides Paranoid offer better battery life, or is it just marginally better? I am a fairly light user, Reddit, E-Mail, SMS, Calls, etc.

Roms make very little difference when it comes to battery. Most battery drain comes from apps like facebook and their apps, or other badly coded apps. Then there is also signal strength that effects things alot. I have one spot in my house that has weak signal and if I leave it there the battery will be dead in a few hours. I cant say anything as far as PA goes. I havce avoided using their roms for years due to the bugs they add to the device.

The only reason I use PA is because of the dark theme that I can apply easily. With Lineage 15.0 or 14.1, could I do the same? Or would I have to install something for it? Also, yeah in my room I am getting fairly bad signal. What ROM do you use out of curiosity?

I dont use LOS either. Due to the issues that have been there for years without any real fixes. They had a chance to fix them when CM went under but it was too much work for them.
I only use roms based on AOSP. Roms like Slim roms and my main rom is Dirty unicorns (not on XDA)
If you have bad signal then there is nothing you can do that will help battery life.
My favorite root app these days is Battery Charge Limit, next to AdAway.

I have many reasons. Ill name a few. It is built off of AOSP unlike others that use CM/Los as a base. So less issues. Smartbar is one of the biggest options I use it for. The devs are a big part of it. Most know what they are doing and are open to helping as long as you show you put in your own work first before coming to them. They also dont asdd features just to add them because people want them.

So, I've been running my Pixel 2 XL on a stock ROM since December 2017 and I am now noticing my battery life isn't lasting quite as long. I think it's time for a fresh set of boots on this phone!
Requirements:
- I need SafetyNet to pass; I use several apps that block rooted devices from Sky Go, Natwest Online Banking to Google Pay.
- More battery life; I don't really use much of the phones performance anymore so I could lower it's performance a fair amount if it can get me more battery!
- Audio enhancements; I listen to Spotify A LOT!
I used to have a LOT of xposed & magisk modules installed so I would like to get a bunch of them working again for example Amplify, BootManager, Greenify, CrossBreeder, DolbyAtmos, Viper4Android, xNotifications, Snapprefs, WhatsApp Extensions, MinMinGuard, YouTube AdAway
What ROM, KERNEL... etc currently isn't tripping safety net & google pay?
I'd greatly appreciate some knowledge as I haven't followed anything relating to rooting in over 2 years!

My personal setup is the latest Magisk beta and Sultans Kernel. Magisk will hide the apps you do not won't to see root and keep safety net from tripping but you will need a custom kernel to hide that you have an unlocked bootloader. Google pay is still hit or miss with just straight Magisk installed though. If Google pay doesn't work there is a work around that you can find in the Magisk thread. I don't remember the exact steps off the top of my head. It just involves editing one of GP's xml files. It isn't hard to do. Xposed will trip safety net no matter what though. Thats a choice you will have to make. I personally do not use a custom rom but still keep up with them through there treads. I can't say any one of them is better than the other. It all comes down to personal preference.

Being that your phone is from December 2017, battery degradation is probably stronger than any ROM battery modifications would give you.

I haven't seen any kernel or rom that breaks safety net. There are times with one is updated and there is a glitch that does break it but it is normally fixed fairly quick. Xposed isn't as big of a need as it used to be in my opinion. Just about everything that Xposed has is offered in one rom or another or is available as a mod. Wakeblock works really well and can take the place of Amplify especially used in conjunction with Greenify or Servicely. Some roms have that service built in also. I used to swear by Xposed but I haven't seen a need for it since I started using my Pixel 2 XL. This is also the first phone that I haven't used a custom Rom on. I find that Sultans Kernel, a few Magisk modules, adaway, wakeblock and greenify is all I really need. I got my phone on launch day and I can still go a full day or more without charging unless I am playing a cpu intensive game.
Google Pay is VERY hit or miss right now. It took me a while to get it to work so there is a chance it might not work or will but then break with an update.
