I have 2 Samsung S9's delivered to my company. When making calls, both phone users have reported that calls drop for 3-4 seconds and then return. This is happening on almost every call and sometimes, multiple times within a call.
The users are not moving around when making a call. They were both making successful calls with the same network (Vodafone UK) in same location on S8 phones the day before. They have independently both reported the call drop issue with the same symptons.
Anyone else experiencing this?
19th March - Tried a new Vodafone SIM but this did not fix the problem. Call dropped for 3-4 seconds, 3 times in a 10 minute call.
Yes! On both LTE/3g and wifi calling.
Unbranded phone direct from Samsung on Ee and Giffgaff (dual sim).
Hopefully next software update will fix
I have the same issue on voda UK. Actually emailed Samsung tonight requesting exchange or refund as I had not heard of anyone else with same issue
I have dual sim model but second sim is disabled as I only enable it in low coverage areas
Same here in Portugal. (Meo)

I decided to return the peice of crap and get a refund
Support offered to let me return it for a replacement but this could take upto 28 days
I'd rather purchase something else

S9 and s9+ forums here.. I think android central and some other forums
I personally thinks its a software issue but I only kept the phone for a week
I used this site https://sndeep.info/en (select Samsung) and input the serial #'s on the back of the 2 x S9's with "call dropping / calls intermittently silent" issue - they were both Made in: Korea Year: 2018 Month: February
I've also had the same issue and I spend a lot of time on the phone. Having gone through the troublehsooting and ordering a new sim I still had the problem. A new software update was released yesterday, which I have installed. I've had severall calls since and so far no problems to report.
I am on Optus network in Australia and I have installed the latest update ARD1 available on my phone. I am still facing the issue and happens multiple number of times during a call. It happens during important conversations with clients and I miss bits and parts of the conversation which annoys everyone. Today it caused me huge loss as well. Samsung should be sued over and over for this. Has anyone found a solution? Kindly help. Thanks.

Thanks. I had the same problem with AldiMobile SIM (Telstra network) in my S9. Most of the cheap SIM providers in AU's are relegated to a subset of the better networks and had the S9 silence issue but after 8 weeks of intermittent silences, I moved to 100% Telstra SMS which fixed the issue for me without doing any firmware upgrades tho apparently the latest S9 firmware upgrade is supposed to have fixed the "intermittent silence" issue on all those cheap SIM providers services in Aus.... but I haven't had the patience to check.

First off, let me say that having been a WinMob guy for the past 4 years, this phone has been a revelation in good design. I love it.
The ONLY thing that is impacting my experience with this handset is its CONSTANT habit of dropping calls! This usually happens completely at random, sometimes 1 minute into a call, sometimes 10 minutes into one - happens with both poor service and full bar service.
Could it have anything to do with HSDPA being active during voice calls?? Haven't had this issue with any other phones before and I certainly don't want to have to return it for a fix.
Any help with this would be very greatly appreciated!!
I've experience it a few times, put it down to poor T-Mobile coverage so far.
Happens every call with me, really can't figure out what I can do to fix it. Just hope it's not a hardware fault.
Has any one had any similar experiences with their handsets? Or alternatively, any ideas on how to fix the issue?
Thanks, just want to know so I can decide whether to take it back or not...
Guys, any help with this?
Well, I've never had this problem until today when I dropped a call twice. Had full bars. Hmmm. (T-mobile in case it's a network prob btw)
Have you had a look on the T-Mo Android forum ?
http://support.t-mobile.co.uk/discussions/index?page=forums&forum=80103656d92cf90123e15db75a006088
I've not looked there for sometime now.
I've been using it in Switzerland for a week, and have had no dropped calls whatsoever, so i'm assuming it's something to do with T Mobile UK
(Just for the benefit of any one else who will read this, I'm on O2.)
Hey guys, might have found a fix for this -
1. Turn phone off
2. Remove SIM + battery
3. Put battery back in without SIM, turn handset on and leave for 3 or so mins.
4. Turn off, + put SIM back in w/ battery as well
5. Change Network data setting to receive WCDMA only
Seems to have worked, but haven't tested extensively.
Btw, thanks for the t-mobile forums link, did help.
ive also had the same issue. had the same problem on my hero on 3 before I got my desire which is now on Orange and still the dame problem. also g1 on 3 had same problem. must be a problem on Android or with data and voice at same time.

I thinks it's more the phone since I'm AT&T with a Telus Desire.
This happens to me too with 2-4 bars. I thought it was my cheek hitting the End Call but it happens with BT too.
Maybe I've just been spoiled with Nokia and Motorola's reception...
It happened in Taiwan before. It's sim card's fault. We replaced our cards with new ones and problems are solved.

Have you tried calling Google Nexus support directly? Since you just bought it, they should be able to help. When I had an issue with my phone, I called Google and they transferred me to Samsung for a warranty claim. Samsung reps did not speak English very well and basically told me to call Google back to troubleshoot. I called Google back and explained to them what Samsung said and the Google rep was adamant Samsung would have to honor my warranty. He offered to 3-way call with Samsung and explain to them the issue and why they should do a warranty claim for me. In the end, Samsung ended up agreeing to fix my phone, but I had to send it out to their Texas factory, which took about 4 weeks total to get it back. So, I would try calling Google and see what they have to say and maybe they can help talk to Samsung about repairing your Nexus.
Yes I contacted Google and they said the same thing.. I can't send this phone in because I don't have another phone I can use.. I put a new sim card in my phone, I'll post whether it works or not soon.

Dropping calls.
I mean lots of calls
Thought it was because of root.
Not unrooted stock still drops calls.
Need to RMA before bootloader
Patch.
Thought maybe it could be my
Sim card acting up as sometimes I lose cell signal

It seems it's a common problem in Verizon, I'm not rooted. I even got a new SIM, it didn't help. Apparently the radio is having a hard time switching down to CDMA in poor LTE coverage areas. Lots of users reporting this in reddit. I'm hoping next maintenance release fixes this.

Same here, dropped calls that never happened with my Nexus 6. Google and Verizon had no real fix for me and didn't acknowledge it as a widespread issue.

Are you on Verizon? Have you used the phone on a car or train? Calls drop a lot when switching towers on Verizon.
Was on the phone with Verizon and Google.
They acknowledged this is a widespread issue.
Just be careful when the patch comes out that they don't sneak in a bootloader relock.
Or unrootable update, honestly I think this will be a fairly large update that contains some if not all of those fixes.

There isn't going to be an update that relocks the bootloader. There never has been, and likely never will be. I'd imagine that the logistics behind it would be overly complicated for the minor benefit it would have for the carrier.

I mentioned this in another thread. Setup>more>network settings reset resolved my outgoing call issues as well as pickup and dropped call issues.
Ok, this is reassuring as I thought it was mine. The issue is pretty annoying. Good thing I haven't needed it in an emergency situation and it dropped on me. Crazy part is I thought wifi calling wouldn't be affected but I was wrong about that
I've been on Verizon for years and just when I got my Pixel is when I've had an issue with nearly every phone call. Not dropping but the caller suddenly cannot hear me like another reply mentioned. Seems it "might" be aligned with when a text or email comes in while I'm on the phone. Or it could be when I stray from the phone with my earpiece in. I hope they push a fix, it's the Pixel not Verizon.
Have ya'll tried turning on wifi calling? I live in a spotty area and this seems to help me. Make sure you also go to settings-wifi and click the settings wheel and activate the switch to cellular automatically. I also tried to activate aggressive switching on developer mode but it doesn't stick after a reboot.
I'm on Verizon, using Verizon Pixel, no issues at all with calls. Running NPF26J with radio and modem from NDE63X.

Weird, I've never had any call issues. You're not accidentally covering the microphone by the fingerprint sensor are you? Any cases/screen protectors that could be doing so?
My screen cover is near the edge of the mic hole, but doesn't obstruct it. It's very random and the only issue I've had. Other than that I like the phone. It did do this a few times without the screen cover tho. FYI.

Do you have any apps installed for call recording? I just had the same problem and had to uninstall the app before my mic would work in calls.
I'm having the same problem but it only occurs when my WiFi is on. I have a recording app, Cube ACR. I don't understand why it would only cause problems when WiFi is on since I have WiFi calling disabled. I will try uninstalling the app and see if I still have the issues of people not being able to hear me.

This is a problem in Oreo and VoLTE. Perhaps that is why Oreo OTA was pulled. Doesn't happen often, but it does happen. Wait for a patch.
Lots of issues
Bullitt I have had 4 phones since 10/31/2017. First I was told a glitch in system caused by combining my bills. Then it was a speaker problem. Then a glitch again and now back to speaker. I just received my 4th phone. I'm still not sure if either are the problem but I do know it's annoying and inconvenient changing my info over again and again

Only happens randomly with S7 users for me too.
Same problem when call a galaxy s7 edge of T-Mobile
I was having issues with my Moto Z2 related to Digits and I couldn't talk to my daughter because she couldn't hear me on her Galaxy S7 Edge. I totally got screwed but "upgraded" back to the S7 Edge like I had before and that was almost paid off. When I got my refurbished S7 Edge, now my husband, who still has the Moto Z2, can hear me but I can't hear him on my S7 Edge! It may be on the manufacturer to produce the update, but T-Mobile is the one who sold the phones to us. Paying now for service and phones that we can't use. It's absolutely ridiculous. I'm messaging T-Mobile over Twitter right now. If there isn't a solution, I'll be contacting our state attorney general to complain about them selling a product that isn't working.
I haven't had any call issues, but I don't know if I've called an s7 edge. Sounds like it could be a Sammy issue too.

I'm sure it was you who posted on the T-Mobile support forums earlier. I have spent hours with T-Force on Twitter etc. And was told what they told you - updates come from the manufacturer. However I believe that T-Mobile should be pressuring Lenovo to get this fixed ASAP. How long can it take to fix a problem that was just introduced? They could issue an update with the prior radio firmware and solve the problem. Z2 Force would still have Oreo, but the Nougat radio firmware.

Hi.
I've got my S9 a week ago and I'm quite disappointed with the problems I'm having when I make or receive phone calls.
I would say that easily 60 or 70% of those calls I had problems in the middle of them because I couldn't ear the other party, although I could be heard.

I have reports from 2 users who have calls that drop for 3-4 seconds and the reconnect on a regular basis. Vodafone UK. Tried new SIM but that has not fixed it.
No issues with TMo in Fl.
Same problem. Dual sim version. When on a call the line goes silent for 4 or 5 seconds! Using a Three and Vodafone sim in the UK.

Report it to samsung the more that report the issue the sooner it should get fixed
On a portuguese forum, several people reported the same problem I have.
During a call, the phone stops transmitting any sound for the other party for about 10 seconds...
People listen to me perfectly during that time, but I cannot ear anything. After those seconds, the phone call gets normal...
It's driving me mad!
Can confirm the above comment, a ton of portuguese people are complaining about this
s9+ call issue
my s9+ have call issue during the call too . (dual sim)
Samsung S9 problems during calls
Had my S9 64GB since 3rd march in the UK on EE and I have the same problem with periods of silence during calls, it is driving me mad as well. I have done the contact us on the phone where you upload a system log as soon as the fault occurs but so far I have had nothing back from Samsung regarding this issue. I also had a problem initially with the fingerprint sensor where it kept locking out but since I disabled the fingerprint gestures on the phone that seems to work fine now for lock screen.
I think the problem was reported also on Pocketnow Daily.
PS: I don't have this problem.

Drop calls or simple silence
Got the Samsung galaxy s9 for the last 2 weeks intermittent problems with calls. When making calls for the first 20secs it just goes silent the other person can hear me but I cannot hear them. Sometimes this also happens mid call too, whereby after about 5 mins or so... It goes completely silent for 30secs and eventually either cuts me off or the call returns... Called Samsung UK not much help, obviously there is a fault somewhere , but for now Samsung are hiding.

Had the same problem with my S9 dual sim. Tried just using a single sim but problem persists. I contacted Samsung who were less than helpful. Denied they have any reports of this issue even though I told them about online forums reporting same issue. I have sent my phone back to Samsung who will send me a new replacement once they receive my phone back for inspection. I'm now worried that even a new S9 will have the exact same issue.
I'd rather Samsung just say they are aware of the issue and are working on a fix. It bugs me when they act like there's no issue. They wanted me to factory reset the phone to which I told them I'd only had the phone a week and spent a whole day setting.
Just gotta wait for the replacement phone now and hope they fix with a software update. They did offer a refund but I really want the phone (if I can make calls on it that is!)
The same issue with my 2 s9 plus phones. One sim version, Israel. Just hope that the problem is with soft and gonna be fixed with next update.
Today I went into a Samsung official suport centre and I was told exactly the same...they do not have any knowledge of problems regarding phone calls and S9.
They ran a series of tests concerning the phone's sensors and the test resulted that everything seemed OK.
But...it's not!
And I'm mad about this. Honestly I do not know if this is simply a software issue...
Ffs sake I've only used the phone for calls twice and both times the call just ended and I had to ring them back.
