I mainly keep my rooted phone stock. But otherwise I use Ad Away for system wide adblocking
ViperFX for better sound quality from my speakers
And YouTube Vanced for adless YouTube and background playback.

When rooted on stock, is it possible to update via OTA or by downloading the image? Or will a wipe be necessary in order to update?

You can fastboot the monthly factory images without wiping data. Forget about OTA's if your bootloader is fully unlocked. This is how I update every month if your interested :good:

Is there an xposed runtime .zip or whatever for the marshmallow update to Sprint s6 to be able to use xposed modules?
I still have:
xposed-v80.0-sdk22-arm64-custom-build-by-wanam-20160211.zip
Which worked on LP, but I don't want to flash it and mess up the phone if it's not supposed to be for this version.

There's a marshmallow version of xposed in the original thread, however, we don't have twrp yet. There's no way to flash a zip without that, at least that I know of. I'm sure we won't be waiting too long for twrp though.

No, that is from the official xposed thread, not the one for Samsung phones. This thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/unofficial-xposed-samsung-lollipop-t3180960

I've gotten a full day of heavy use with a custom ROM, I didn't make it to 5pm today. I had greenify and amplify working on the custom rom though, so hopefully now that we have recovery, I can test out xposed and get some of those things back. This was my first Samsung phone, I'm not sure I'd go to the S7 after this experience. I came from a phone that easily got 1.5 days on a charge.

I can't get this working correctly.
I installed flashfire and flash the zip and let it keep the option to mount system read/write, and i see it unpacking files, and then the screen goes blank and eventually i have to force it to reboot.
After reboot, xposed apk says it's not installed.
Is there some other way to flash the zip?

You used flashfire? That won't do it for me. After extracting, goes to a black screen and I have to force a reboot, then xposed afterwards says it's not installed.
Worked just fine for me. For multiple different files. V4a, xposed, and a couple other things.
Screenshots added for exact settings I used.
Flashfire takes a few minutes to load once it does all that unpacking. My suggestion would be to be patient before forcing a reboot.

I understand you need to be completely stock when you install it the first time, I assume with an unlocked bootloader?

I use Magisk on all Nougat roms. I haven't had any luck with "Chainfires" SuperSU v2.78 or any other version for that matter. I think the set up requires a couple more steps that just flashing a SuperSu zip like the one we are all used to but the benefits that come with Magisk are worth it and it just plain works. And if you use the Magisk manager you can also toggle SElinux on and off and turn root on and off for apps that require no root.. I have been on board since N hit and we has no working root accept for this, and once I used it I was hooked.

What I did was use the nexus root toolkit to unlock my bootloader (replacement phone) then followed this guide

But I replaced the su with the phh super user from magisk.
I also did Franco kernel.
If I need to explain more let me know.

I thought that the installation guide on the Magisk site said that Magisk would over write SuperSU.

Magisk does not overwrite supersu, if it detects supersu it does not install it's own superuser version. It continues to allow the system use supersu.
If you want to use magisk and use magisk's su, then you'd need to use a rom that does not come rooted and then flash magisk.

A lot of apps won't work if they detect root, or if the SafetyNet won't pass. Android Pay is one of them, but a lot of banking apps, Pokemon Go, Mario Run, etc won't work.

The mixer path file is located in system/vendor/etc/mixer_paths_tavil_taimen.xml

We have to wait until xposed works for pie i guess.
They have a module that hides root better than in magisk
I'm ready to crack this egg. Service costs too much for such heavy limits on what can be done with it. There was a project a while back, when it was TWC TV, to remove the in/out of home limitations, hide root, and allow Miracast/HDMI use. Wonder what happened to that.

Anyone know how to hide root from spectrum TV app. I used magisk hide but that isn't doing it. It still is flagging the phone as rooted. Magisk hide works for my bank app so I don't understand why spectrum sees root.

Yes
Anybody every figure out how to hide root from spectrum t.v. app. I've tried all settings and apps I can think of.
I'm assuming you tried repackaging magisk manager with a random name? It's in settings right under the "Clear Repo Cache". I have mine enabled so it now says Restore Magisk Manager, not sure what it says if you haven't done it.
Also try renaming or deleting the MagiskManager folder in the root of your file system. Magisk just stores downloads there so you don't need the folder. Pokemon Go requires both to be done as well as Magisk Hide.

I tried that earlier but something didn't work right. I ended up unrooting for now. I will reroot and reinstall this prop mod later today. Worth a try.

I'm curious if you have any Magisk Modules installed? I've read elsewhere that some root was being detecting because of some magisk mods. If so, maybe try without any mods installed or with Magisk Core Only Mode enabled.

I haven't tried that. I'll give that a go after work today. Thanks
Have you tried to login spectrum before rooting the phone with magisk? Then flash magisk and go to manager then menu and select hide. You can hide root from the spectrum app.

Think I found a solution. Check this post out. Tried it and its working with the latest Canary build of Magisk but I think it will work on stable version as well. I did hide the app with Magisk Hide or thought I don't think that is needed either.

Edit: Working on stable Magisk 17.1 as well.

Cool! I'll reroot soon and give it a try.
Works great!! Can have my cake and eat it too. Now I don't have to go rootless. Thanks for the link. Will thank OP for being smart and generous.

Strange. I'm also rooted with stock everything and installed with no problem. Possible corrupted download.
