Flashing ROM reboot issues, advice massively appreciated. - OnePlus 3 Questions & Answers

I rooted my phone yesterday fine and made a backup of my oxygen OS (original rom).
I am definitely successfully unlocked and rooted, and TWRP newest version is running.
I have tried so much to get a new rom running correctly I have tried both resurrection remix official and unofficial:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/on...evelopment/op3-3t-resurrection-remix-t3754941
I have also tried official paranoid android, but every time it starts up I get two issues the first is the error saying "android.media has stopped" the more serious being the fact that no matter which rom I flash it always begins force restarting over and over again, I get into the OS fine, have a scroll around and around every 2 mins or so it just force reboots, then it comes back and is fine for 2 mins then same again.
It has happened with the official and unofficial versions of resurrection remix and also happens exactly the same with paranoid android. I have no idea what else to try at this point.
The process I have been using for flashing is this:
1. Boot into TWRP recovery
2. Wipe everything but internal storage.
3. Install my rom.
4. Reboot.
5. Starts up successfully and then falls back into the standard boot loop and the android.media error.
I have also tried it with GAPPS which was throwing some setup wizard has stopped error, so for now I am just attempting to get an actual rom running without constantly restarting.
Any help is massively appreciated, I am tech savvy, hence why this is annoying me even more.
Thanks,
Kieran

Have you tried going back to the latest official Oxygen OS (Stable or OB)?

My backup is the original oxygen and this restores fine and works fine just as soon as I try to flash a new rom it just keeps restarting every few minutes, I dont really know what else to try.
Also to add I sometimes see this issue when I attempt to flash certain roms..... 'assert failed: op3.verify_modem("2017-11-16") == 1'

Use the recommended firmware by the rom. Also you can't flash most roms without Gapps.
1. Flash proper firmware
2. Flash the rom
3. Flash Gapps or something similar.
4. Flash any additional kernel (optional).
5. Flash SuperSU or Magisk.
The assert failed littery tells you that you use using the wrong modem // firmware.

my first question which custom Rom you installed every Rom developer say it is stable but only few has been stable as rock . i tried everything but settled with AICP Rom. and then try to use GAPP as ARM64 android 8.1
u have first install Rom and then GAPP then magisk or Superuser anything which u refer
https://forum.xda-developers.com/on...e-development/wip-official-aicp-13-0-t3713637
this is the Rom which i use it . .they are stable and also update it weekly thrice ..
if u like it you can install this ROM

Recovery...super confused please help.

I love this phone but recently switched to a note 3 and love it as well. However, my wife is having problems with her phone and thought it time to factory reset to remedy the problem. However I figured i should put a custom rom on her E980 if I'm going to go through all that, I'd experiment with mine. Wow, what's with installing a custom recovery? I tried numerous ways after spending countless hours yesterday and nothing seemed stable. I had to "tot" back to stock 4.4 numerous times.
Could someone explain the procedure please as after I root how do I install custom recovery and what else I need to install and what order. Also, a good stable rom for my with based off of lollipop.

From my personal experience, easiest 'path' would be to start from stock Jellybean, then to install recovery via Freegee after rooting, and then to update that recovery to latest TWRP (process I'm using for years now).
If you really want to start with KK as base, you should install GPRO_Recovery.apk and install a recovery from there, after you obtain root. After that, update that ancient recovery to TWRP and you're good to go.
For AOSP LP ROMs, you have to choose between 4 available ROMs (there are maybe more, but those mentioned should be updated more frequently) - CyanogenMod, BlissPop, Carbon and SlimLP. There are some builds of Resurrection Remix and AICP but I know nothing about them because I have never used them. Others are pretty much stable for everyday usage and should play nice on your e980s.
Start with one of four ROMs mentioned above and you won't have any troubles/issues.

i can't find anyway to root my phone neither i think if there is any recovery installed in my phone (idk if that's even possible) because it doesn't go to recovery at boot
I am already on stock lollipop for F240L but it have too much blootware.
edit: so it turns out recovery is installed on mobile but in an attempt to root i ran into another error. when the program(root software) it restarts Phone into recovery, i received this error. "NO command" and i cant push updates thorough ADB.
edit2: after pressing random keys it started working but when i try to push update through adb it say
"you need adb 1.0.32 or newer to sideload to this device." any help?

Help with stock rom !

Hello, So i recently decided to move back to stock os as i think the push notification bug is fixed (Is it ?) . So then i yesterday downloaded the rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-phone/development/safestrap-v4-flashable-stock-image-t3150531. I downloaded the latest version 4.6.6.1 US Version. I remember i rooted the phone from 4.6.6 does it matter ? So i decided to check the rom before actually wiping all my data so i created rom-slot-1 and tried to install the stock os in it. It gave me a error ''Failed to update binary through zip'' i can not decide is it problem with non-stock rom or is it with the rom. There are 3 rom types on that rom page. I dont know what could be the problem. Does the rom vary with the model of the phone ? if yes then how can i know my model of the phone ?
Thanks
The Fire OS partitions are too big, so they will never fit into the manually created slots, which is a good thing because they prevent an installation that would be useless anyway.
You can install ROMs to slot1 but they won't work correctly (connectivity, etc.), so don't even waste time on trying...
Just backup your existing OS via TWRP through Safestrap and proceed with a clean install of Fire OS:
TWRP backup of "old" OS
wipe data, cache & dalvik
flash the CleanSystemPartition zip
flash the Fire OS zip right after
flash other things of your choosing, like SuperSU, etc.

Google store update of Signal Messenger causes bootloop

Has anyone else have a problem with bootloops happening during updates of the Signal Messenger app?
Rom is CM13(fefifofum, onano, Luffy.d, TheStrix ) with no kernel patches/tweaks.
After uninstalling the app, google updates runs properly.
I found out that the issue is not due to Signal Messenger but probably something with the rom. I think the customized rom does not monitor the thermal levels as well as the stock rom and throttle the cpu and that will cause the phone to crash and bootloop when it is too hot, which will happen when updating of many apps at once happens.
Running fstrim from the terminal window frequently after manually updating a few apps at a time seems to help avoid the issue.
I am also getting similarisue on my redmi 1s, on resurrection remix marshmallow
initially after updating an app, the app was not working and there were some crashes in settings app,
I did the hard reset from twrp, after that installing app is causing bootloop, some apps got installed and smoothly but some are causing bootloop(apps like whatsapp),
I guess the apps that were installed prior to the reset cause bootloop
i have tried hard reset, reflashing the rom and flashing the same rom , currently i have installed aicp rom, and it is doing the same thing , but in aicp it came out of bootloop after some time automatically and not i cant open the app, it show "app stopped running"
i was using phantom kernel with underclocked cpu with resurrection remix previously....
please help,
thank you.
Try to flash latest stock miui firmware 8.2.1
Do u have to try flash stock firmware?

My problem was bootloops from playstore updates and I didn't not have any crashes in the settings app or had to do a hard reset prior to the bootloop issue.
I think the problem has got to do with a bug in Cynogenmod all the way back from KK which have not been patched in custom roms. So all roms based on Cynogenmod/Lineage which includes R-Remix, AICP, etc will have the same problem.
See this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-1s/help/help-crash-bootloop-logcat-included-t3737427
Stock firmware miui8 or 9 is fine. Or you could upgrade to LineageOS 14.1 which I did and it doesn't have this bootloop issue.

I tried installing LineageOS14.1 and resurrectrion remix Nougat also(previously it was resurrection remix marshmallow) using twrp recovery, for both the roms while installing it shows "Signature verification failed error" or some error related to signature (sorry do not remember exactly), I have rechecked the rom zip files, files are alright , also checked md5 hash of rom files that is also correct,
any idea where the error is lying(also tried installing by disabling zip verification from twrp before installation)....?
and if I flash stock miui firmware (miui 8 or 9), will previously installed twrp recovery be lost after flash..??
I do not want mi recovery..

Haven't came across the problem you described. You could try asking in Lineage rom thread. I would've thought that the TWRP settings for signature verification is the cause of the problem.
Theres 2 versions of the stock MIUI rom. The recovery version will not install anything on the recovery partition and will leave TWRP alone I think but I'm not sure and haven't tried it. I usually just use the fastboot version and reinstall TWRP.

Problems with flashing a new Rom

Tried to flash the latest Resurrection Remix ROM on my OP3 (which is the RR-P-v7.0.1-20190309-oneplus3-Official.zip found here )ontop of the previous version RR-P-v7.0.0-20190302-oneplus3-Official.zip .
At first a assert failed and I couldnt flash it but after I flashed the Stable 5.0.8 Modem+FW from here the flashing succeeded.
Rebooting and starting the device works at first until the bootanims finishes, it stay for some time on the last from (where the circle is closed around the logo) but then automaticly shuts down.
I redownloaded all used files multiple times and reflashed them just as often. What could be my problem?
To use my device atm I simply reflashed the previous version RR-P-v7.0.0-20190302-oneplus3-Official.zip and it works with the newer Modem flawlessly.
Anyone
Same problem, any solution?
Have you tried a clean flash with full wipe instead of a dirty one ?
If i were you, i would :
- Backup my data
- Flash TWRP (look in the ROM thread for the correct one)
- Flash modem (look in the ROM thread for the correct one)
- Full wipe (even /data)
- Flash ROM
- Flash Gapps if needed
See if after a clean install of the ROM you still have issue. If you still have issue, maybe try another ROM. LOS, OOS Leaked, Havoc or Nitrogen, idk.

How do I get this Android10 custom ROM installed on my G960F?

Hey guys, please explain it to me as I would be 5 years old.
For nearly 3 years I used a Android 8.0 version called "lightROM" named "Bodhisattva" from a guy here on the forum.
I've seen about Android 10 and thought, here we gooo.
Sadly it didn't worked this way.
I looked through the Android 10 ROMs and complete overwhelmed, because the forum is complete confusing, I decided to go with this:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s9/development/havoc-os-stable-exynos-t4095221
I downloaded the needed gaps and newest Magisk, flashed newest TWRP 3.3.1-1 and rebooted into TWRP menu.
As with every new ROM, I deleted everything. The data, files, everything except dalvic and external SD.
I then wanted to flash the ROM, but I got a sort of "Android 10 vendor image missing" error.
okay, I then flashed my old Android 8 ROM and here I'm back, luckily.. Stupid Titanium Backup doesn't work too, it just doesn't recognize the files, what a stupid program. Seems like I lost everything.
One of the problems I have are all those suspicious shortcuts everyone is using for everything, I mostly understand just 1/3.
Now I've tried to find a answered all over the forum and Google, what that "Vendor Image" is. It's a sort of second partition to be able to run Android 10.
But where do I get it, how to install and what do I have to do, to get the linked ROM running on my Galaxy S9 SM-G960F Exynos Europe Version.
Please offer me all links needed to download everything I need per click, to be able to install all needed things.
Please talk to me as if I'm 5!!
I think the most simple way to do is to flash the latest stock firmware through Odin which you can download from SamMobile or just use Frija for faster and easier download, and after you flash you can finish the first android setup and flash twrp through odin

Thanks for your answer.
Why do I have to flash TWRP through Odin? Because it's already on my phone.
And what version of TWRP would I have to flash? I've read about problems with 3.3.1-1 and newest Android 10.
At the point where I've flashed the newest Android 10 firmware for my phone, can I install any ROM I want? Like lineageOS 17.1 for example?
Can you give me a recommendation for a ROM please, I'm pretty lost with this atm.
I need a ROM with a dark theme and mainly to play games. Right now I have a lot of trouble with games, where other people on reddit state "it's working perfectly fine".
For example "DotA Underlords" is a pure 5 fps lag party after 10 rounds.
Is there a ROM what concentrates at issues like this?

because after you flash your phone with the stock firmware it will replace all your modification to the default factory settings, that's why you have to flash it again through Odin otherwise if you get into recovery mode it will just showing stock recovery.
hmm, never hear about that problem tho, but I'm using the 3.3.1-1 version of TWRP running EvolutionX Rom Android 10 and got zero problems
yeah, after you flash the latest stock firmware and finish all the first setup (you can just press skip at everything) then you can flash TWRP through Odin. then if you success you can go to TWRP and follow the installation instruction of rom that you prefer
note: In my experience I have to finish the first android setup to be able to flash TWRP, if not then it will fails all the time unless I did finish the setup
I'm not quiet sure about that since what I'm aiming for the rom is for the productivity battery life and I don't really game on my phone, but I can give you a brief summary of the rom that I've tried.
LineageOS 17.1 : is the most simple and stock android experience that I ever tried, don't have alot of features but runs noticeably smooth compared to stock samsung firmware. also it can automatically update your phone, so you don't have to manually download and flash every update
EvolutionX : is LineageOS version but with a tons of great features imo, it's not too much and not lacking of features that I need. It has gaming mode tho, but never tried using it. also it can automatically update the phone
AlexisROM : this is the rom for you if want to have OneUI experience but with features that comes from the latest galaxy s features like OneUI 2.1 etc. this rom also highly debloated which also you can modify in the installation menu since it's using the Aroma installer
If you feeling like the rom needs a little tweak for the performance, you can try to flash custom kernel that has features to tweak the cpu clock performance
