(SM-920P) [Rooted] Custom ROM & Kernel combos for Nougat 7.0? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S6

So I never really used "mainstream" or "flagship" & this is my first Samsung phone ever... & That being said the battery on this thing is s*** & I took the liberty of reading on here about the S7E battery hack, not knowing anything about modding or hacking phones. I took it to get the battery swapped, but my phone wouldn't boot, only showed the charging screen. So instead he put a S6E+ in my phone. The old battery was in it since 2015 (got it pre-owned through boost) so it's already better even without the phone recognizing the new capacity. I Rooted my phone for the first time, using ODIN, TWRP, & SuperSU, but I didn't make a backup first. I tried installing 2 different Kernels, Kiboi & SkyHigh. Kiboi had some kind of error before booting & said seandroid not enforcing on the Samsung screen and wouldn't go past that part. Removed that and tried SkyHigh kernel, it worked but got stuck on "Image Support Required" "Creating Image" so I took the original firmware from Samsung, wiped my entire phone and started over.
*UPDATE: I've switched from SuperSU to Magisk successfully & Synapse is working & SkyHigh didn't work because I installed v4 instead of v6*
So my main questions are these...
1: What Kernels for 920P will recognize a S7E battery.
2: What are a few things I should NOT do to avoid severely damaging my phone's OS/Software?
3: AccuBattery is reporting innacurate readings because it can't recognize it's not the original battery. How do I get my phone to recognize the new capacity in my settings & AccuBattery?
I am completely new to all of this, thanks in advance.

I figured a lot out. I've successful flashed BigDaddy ROM for Nougat, & SkyHigh v6.0.0 Kernel. Rooted with magisk. How do I make my phone recognise a S7 Edge battery?

The driver at that layer is not within then S6 base kernel. Send me the output of “ls -lR /sys”.
I intend to keep this kernel going well into the future, no plans to switch phones for as long as the battery keeps working but I can add support for other phones if there are testers.

This is fantastic news I just grabbed a new s6 from boost the other day for 100 bucks and was sad to see that there was little to nothing as far as development went for g920p but came across your kernel and I just love it..so many options in synapse it was overwhelming at first but now I want more I paired it with with the uni debloat mod floating around here that with some slight modification ended up working out quite well and was able to have 19gb of free space (and that's with an almost 8gb TWRP backup I have just in case I break something lol...so yes please keep up development of you would thanks alot

Same here, that's how I got mine. Right now I'm on BigDaddy ROM for Nougat & SkyHigh v6 Kernel. I'd be willing to test if @tdhite adds support for the S7E battery mod, but I can't find the "driver layer output" or whatever it is he needs, I'm new to all of this I think I'm learning it all very fast but I'm still confused on a lot of the abbreviations, codes, lingo, ect. My only issue is I think the ROM uses way to much memory? I'll only have like 500-300mb left out of 3 gigs within an hour or so?

I have noticed that as well but I don't believe it is the ROM. It is the SWAP file from the Sky Kernel. When you go to Synapse and go to the Memory tab, mine is set at 2047mb. With 2698 total memory, that leaves 651 mb of available memory.

Okay thanks, that makes sense. The struggle is real here... I kept getting some weird problem where Magisk would randomly keep uninstalling and I couldn't access my Samsung Cloud. I reflashed the ROM (with S6 Launcher instead of S8) then the kernel. Haven't had the problem since.
NOW my issue is with Accubattery. I'm reading less than 2 hours of SOT!?!!!? My battery has the S6E+ installed and it's supposed to be 3,000mah, but I'm having worst battery life than I did before. I'm so confused I've tried calibrating it several times using Synapse & [ROOT] Battery Calibration Apps.

[Q] ROMs that enhance battery performance?

I recently bought a used Sprint Galaxy S3, it is the SPH-L710 model.
It works great, I like it, I got it rooted with no problem, and got CWM flashed to it and I'm getting ready to flash a ROM.
I've been searching forums and sites for about 2 days for the ROM I want to use.
I'm mainly looking for something that enhances my battery performance, the reason for this is when I first got the phone, I updated it to the 4.4.2 KitKat when I first turned the phone on and the battery life was terrible, like I would charge it to 100% and use it browsing the web for about 10 mins and lose sometimes upwards of 10+% within that 10 minutes.
I searched around and found 2 Apps that I am using right now, one is a battery doctor type thing, the other is an app called Battery Saver (root) it changes some stuff and is supposed to make battery life better, since I have started using these 2 apps my battery life has increased, but it still seems to drain a little fast. So I would like to try and find a ROM that perhaps has tweaked the battery life.
Does anyone have any opinions on battery life for any of the ROMs here that would work for my device, like perhaps which one that you have tried that extended your battery life? I know I could just try them myself, but I am hoping to save a bit of time and see if anyone has some input.
Also another quick question, is there a way to test my battery and see if its just bad? A friend mentioned that the battery could have just gone bad so I'd like to check that if possible.
A. S3s aren't known for their amazing battery life. My battery does not go very far either, talking on the phone, which I do a lot for work, gobbles up the battery immensely. (Like 100% to 80% in 30 minutes.) Web browsing is another battery hog.
B. ROMs are only going to do so much as far as extending your battery life. Just bear in mind -- the lighter the ROM, the less battery it'll likely consume.
You'll do more to save battery by flashing a custom kernel on top of a light ROM that'll allow you undervolt/underclock. But, you want to make sure you flash the correct kernel to the correct ROM base (e.g. Touchwiz kernel for Touchwiz ROMs, AOSP/CM based kernels for AOSP/CM based ROMs).
I personally use the DKP kernel found here in the S3 original development thread.
Be careful w/ underclocking and especially undervolting, as this can cause the phone to freeze up. It's also important to choose a governor that has a nice balance between performance and power savings. (I like the freelunch governor.)
Hope this helps.

Thanks!
That gives me an idea of what I should start looking for, and I'll check out the DKP kernel as well..
I just thought of another question I had, maybe you can help me with it too.
Since I'm running Android 4.4.2 on my device, would I need to find a 4.4.2 ROM to flash?
For instance could I use a 4.3.1 ROM on my 4.4.2 device?

It doesn't matter which Android version you decide to go with. Just avoid two things:
1. Do not flash an older bootloader than the one you are currently on (e.g. If you are currently on ND8, do not flash any older bootloaders like MK5 or MD4).
2. Do not flash any modems older than the one you're currently on. Your modem version can be found in Settings -->About Phone --> and the last three letter/number combination under "Baseband Version". Hint: The baseband version also tells you which bootloader/ROM you're on.
Doing either of these, will trip Samsung's KNOX security feature, tripping the kill-fuse, and suddenly, you'll have yourself a nice hard brick.
I know that probably sounds intimidating, but I assure you if you avoid those two things, you can flash any D2LTE ROM you please. (D2LTE ROMs will work with the Sprint S3.)
idk man the batter life of my S3 lasts 2 days where my Infuse 4g would last less then one with a new battery.....so by far the best battery life I've had in a while

Wew! Thanks for that info, you may have saved me from a terrible mistake lol.
One of the ROMs I was looking at was using the MD4 bootloader, so that would have been a no-no xD
Thanks a lot for all your help, I learned a few things from it, epspecially about the bootloaders and modems having to match, I had no idea about that. Now that I know that, it opens up a few more possibilities for ROMs I can use!

Fun fact: The bootloaders and modems didn't always have to match.
Samsung wanted to be able to market their devices to business entities, and in order to do that, they developed the KNOX security feature.
Once it's on your phone, it's not coming off. It matters to corporate security policy people, because they want devices that aren't going to be compromised if someone tampers with them.
And, as you can see, the wrong kind of tampering makes the phone completely unusable and unrecoverable.

Right now I'm sort of leaning towards LiquidSmooth, Quantam4, or Tribute ROM, still sort of looking around though.
If you don't mind me asking @Higgs_Boson, which ROM are you using?
Also, to the other poster, my mothers GS3 is the same way, hers will last upwards of a day and a half, then again she doesn;t use hers for much, while I'm on mine like a computer lol.

Right now, I'm on CM11.
I usually switch between two that are my favorites:
CyanogenMod or Paranoid Android.
If you want an all-in-one, there is always PAC-ROM, which includes Paranoid Android, AOKP, and CM all under the same roof. (But then, we get back to that thing about light ROMs.)

personally yes after i replace the system UI with the Stock ND8/NDC one and same with the TW Framework and TWframework-res.apk and use the Stockish theme for it.....i like the stock look what can i say but im using xposed at the same time for little things here and there but if you don't want to replace somethings and want it to work 100% use the PCB theme that it comes with.......but either way its pretty smooth and fast and the battery lasts for 2 days with some gaming and listening to music with viper4android installed and making calls and texting the one thing that i would say drains my battery is watching videos but you'll be satisfied
Wow you arent joking. This is one of the best ive seen lately. Nice.

Wicked X, Tribute and Conquest Singularity are all 3 very good ROMs with pretty fair battery life. As stated, Kernal Settings do make a world of difference! I'm on Singularity with latest KT747 Kernal and love it :]

Question from a new user

So, I just got this phone about 2 days ago (After sending one back due to over heating issues) Anyways, I want to get the most out of my new phone.
So, I have a few questions I can hopefully have answered.
1). I want to know the BEST way to improve my battery life if need be and to avoid any type of heating issues since I am a heavy gamer (Order and Chaos, Brave Frontier, PPSSPP emulator)
2). What is the benefit to rooting my device? Will rooting my device void my warranty, and if so, if I were to unroot, would i still be under warranty?
3). ROMs and Kernels, are they stable? My last device was the Galaxy S4. Ran perfectly never overheated (Got slightly warm, even when hardcore gaming) though. When I installed a ROM (Wicked, Cyanogenmod Android KitKat 4.4.4) to it, it started to overheat from just going on Facebook or about 5 minutes on any game. Continued to overheat even after I flashed back to the Original Stock Rom.
Really loving this device as is right now but would love to learn some new techniques especially when it comes to heating issues or battery drains (So far so good, with the exception that Brave Frontier made my phone really hot earlier when on for about 10 minutes on 100% brightness)
Thanks in advance

1. Best way to improve battery life to is freeze un-needed apps and remove their start-up abilities.
2. The benefits to rooting your device are limited only by your knowledge of the apps and why you are rooting it. It is safe to say your warranty is voided. You should just accept that and move on.
3. It depends on what rom and kernel you intend to run. The Alpha AOSP builds are stable but have known bugs. Zone-Rom is a very stable 10m build that i run on my little brothers phone with no issues. I am currently running stock on a modified kernel and will run the aosp roms on the weekend to get test them. The only heating issues i have ever seen are dependent on the cpu governors. If you are running 100% performance with keeping all 4 cpus on they are going to get hot, simple as that.
Browse through the forums. There is a ton of good information for you here.

Thanks, I have been browsing since this morning. Found a few thins here and there Like Snapdragon Kernel (WHich I am really interested in) , but not really any help in how to even start.
I have a slight problem that has been on my phone since last ngiht when I switched to ART, whenever I start up my phone, estimated battery time left always says around 3 hours at 100 percent, but increases during the day to about 22 hours lol dont know if its really a problem or not though, but I dont think i should be asking that here...
I ask about Rooting because my device is fresh and I still have my waranty just incase something happens to my phone. I want to know if unrooting and going back to original stock will avoi problems if I need to return it.
If you're able to, I would like to be able to learn what rooting method is best and ho to go about getting the SNapdragon kernel on my stock firmware (This was so much easier on my s4 lol)

Use purple drake to root in Android development... It will freeze up and require a battery pull. Once you reboot install supersu from Playstore and twrp manager. Once you have twrp installed, create a back up and then install the zip drive for the kernel. This must be loaded on internal storage. Reboot and enjoy

"New" Z1C

I got a killer deal on a new, still-in-the-box Z1 Compact, and I'm wondering what the best thing to do is with regard to updating to the latest build. I've heard all the horror stories about the 5.1.1 update that I'm sure will be my only "automatic" option for ever upgrading it from its default state.
I'm not all that well versed on the particulars of each version of Android, so I guess what I need to know is if this latest 5.1.1 build is universally bad for everyone with this phone. Since some have reported new batteries resolving the problem, do you think it'll work on a brand new, never-touched Z1C (I haven't even turned it on yet)?
And if you do advise against Lollipop, how screwed am I sticking with an old Android version? Are there a lot of apps that require Lollipop? Part of the killer deal was no warranty, so I've only got one shot at this.
SImply put: If someone gave you a brand new Z1C and it was a "use it or lose it" situation, what would you?
Thanks in advance.
Lucky you!
If I got a brand new Z1C I'd configure it precisely the way I've got it.
Put the latest CM 11 nightly on it (there's a guy in the CM 11 thread who regularly updates the build to include Google's latest security patches) and also the Xposed modules I'm using. It's just so well configured right now, I'm even going to put a new battery in it next week since it's still really the best phone for me.
(Will consider ditching it for the Z3C later this year though.)
Right now? You may accept the deal! If there's no warranty and want a Stock-yet-Rooted experience you could go with a Stock based ROM (you can find plenty in the forum, based on 5.1.1 or 4.4.4, I suggest you to look ad Dstriker, based on 5.1.1)! Or you could get a CM based ROM like the Resurrection. Whatever you'll decide, work from that point with Xposed modules, Root apps etc.. to enhance your experience (if that really matters to you, otherwise just stick with the stock one).
I had the same problem about a week ago.
What I did was:
*updated it to latest firmware
*rooted with King Root
*backed up TA
*unlocked bootloader
*installed [KERNEL][Z1C][5.0-5.1][F2FS] Advanced-Kernel v16.0[11/16/2015]
*converted data & cache partition to F2FS
*installed [ROM][Z1C][LP][1.216][LB/UB]DstrikerZ1 Kai ROM SP001[27-Nov][Z5 LOOKS and FEATURES]
*installed Xposed
*did factory reset, cache and dalvik cache
*installed [Z~Z5 Series][EXRxTHS]SONY DRM FUNCTION RESTORATION FOR UB DEVICE
*rebooted to os
*Profit
At the moment after three days of usage 54% battery left. And the phone is flying :good:
If battery is your #1 priority, stay with stock or stock-based KK. I don't think there's much of any issues with app compatibility. However, I also haven't experienced any of the LP 'nightmares' some have reported. I've been on LP with this phone since it came out, and the battery drain is the only considerable downside I've found, and there are some roms that offer excellent relative battery performance, (dstriker, munjeni's 270, Oregon69's MIUI port...), and with battery saving tweaks, possibly comparable to KK. I would say go with latest version and try it out.
For battery, stock KK4.4.4 is still the best. Although, I'm running 5.1.1 and actually, it still brings me through two! complete days (i'm not a gamer, so light user).
However, with LTE / 4g switched on running my LP5.1.1, battery is going down like the Titanic on the iceberg.....so I only switch on LTE when really needed.
5.1.1 is just fine, battery difference between it and KK was negligible for me and other than that it runs very well
only downside is that ugly as hell blue status bar
5.1.1 is fine for me as well, 2-3 days regularly (no gaming).
I have stock 5.1.1, Locked Bootloader, but still have root access and TWRP.
Not had any problems(Needed to modify RW on SD card) and battery seems to be good.

"future proof" rom

Hi, i've recently purchased an used z2 plus, and since it's the weekend and packages can't be shipped the vendor (good guy) told me he will flash a custom rom if i ask him to do so.
I have zero experience with custom roms and i'll probably keep the one he'll flash for a while, i'd like one based on android oreo and if possible that supports ota for a bit of future proofing.
My main concerns are heat and battery life, is LineageOS 15.1 good? Or would you recommend a different one?
Thanks!

If you're a normal user don't flash any rom. Atleast for a week after that decide to flash the rom. (If you're not statisfied with stock rom)
You can easily flash the custom rom with the help of xda members and YouTube.

thanks prince, but after browsing the forum for a while no one seems to likes the stock rom, i'm also fairly nervous at the thought of flashing it myself haha, and since the vendor is so kind to do it for me i'd like to give it a try!
a nougat based one is also fine if it means more battery or less heat

actually stock rom has ugly ui. Otherwise you can use it and yes custom rom has more performance and better backup but you won't be satisfied with single rom, once you start flashing custom rom you will flash infinite time different different rom( it's my personal experience:laugh and you won't be satisfied completely.:silly:
If you absolutely want a stable custom rom, I'd recommend something like Ressurection Remix 6

yes, try latest aex. Overall performance is better among all.
If I were you, I'd probably stay on stock. Considering that you said you feel nervous about flashing etc. There's not scary about it though, really.
Oreo = heat, 4 5 hours of battery
I am on nougat = 8+ hours of battery life. I have gotten to 9hours exactly in the past.
Can't really recommend an Oreo ROM, but Jaguar is recognized to be REALLY good and the developer is quite active.
AEX 5.* = Heat.
I am on AEX 4.4 (and I've tried all of the bigger ones), just switched to Heliox kernel (from 15.10) + AKT (advanced kernel tweaks) which basically gives me tramendous control over how my battery is used up. I just reset my battery stats, so AccuBattery will take awhile in order to calculate an accurate projection, but I am expecting to 9 and half to hopefully 10 hours of screen on time. I don't play games though.
The latest is not always the best.
If you want to take control of your phone, to be able to not see any ads on your phone, not waste data on such spam - custom ROM is the rout. If you don't care all that much, keep it stock.

Thanks! I'm currently on ice cream sandwich and the possibility to get the latest relase probably got me a little too excited; if nougat is that much better i'll definitely choose a rom based on it
Do you have any recommendation for a noob-proof flashing guide? Considering how much i love trying different linux flavours i'm sure i'd enjoy flashing roms too
Here's the deal:

AKT is a must. Akt = 9+ hours sot normal use for me (browsing, messaging, a few phone calls, music), 10+ hours if mostly reading. I've opened a thread about AKT.
And sun cooling. Sun cooling uses some whatever fancy way of helping us keep the temp down (I don't understand too much), for me it is quite noticable when charging, but the consensus seems to be that it works well.
And also keep the background processes to a minimum (make use of appops to adjust permissions + forcedoze + maybe greenify) so your phone doesn't have at all issues going into deep sleep, my deep sleep is 99%, of screen off time, I'd drain 1% overnight for example, when I set it aside deep sleep is rock solid.
That's what I've found to be the most useful tips, I began the same journey as you awhile back, that's my second rooted phone.
Dual speaker mod is pretty great. That's the best sounding phone that have heard personally. As with any phone, the mid highs are exaggerated, have to be tuned down. Use the stereo option when flashing. I can guarantee you that you'll get as good results if you mirror my settings (and slightly adjust them to your preferences), screenshots attached. Don't go too much over -4.4db, you can go max to -2.0 (with my settings & EQs) and listen to music at maxed out levels totally 100% safely.
Dude go for AEX 5.2 25 DATE build...which is the best in oreo based roms...the main aim of this build is performance......and as per gaming this is the best of among all nougat and oreo based roms i know some of nougat fans boys ready restrict me..but one's you stick with aex 5.2 you never look back...trust me...once give it try....
When you purchase a phone, new or old, first have some experience with the stock device. Specially with used stuff, its way more important.
Custom ROM is designed to be used for user specific modification requirements.
I am not saying your vendor is planning to cheat you but a custom ROM with unlocked bootloader plus root can allow masking any issue present on the device.
Buy bone stock. Use it for couple of week to see if all device function are working as per manufacturers specifications !!
This also allows you to understand your own requirements for a custom ROM. Because this bring us to your question, future proofing.
No ROM is future proof, all roms are fruit of volunteering effort of lot of individuals. Secondly all ROMs have some good things are some bad, so only thing is future proof is to learn your self the steps needed for installing a custom ROM.
Search XDA for following steps and topics related to custom ROM installing.
1. Bootloader unlocking (dedicated thread present).
2. Downloading and installing TWRP
3. Downloading and flashing a custom ROM along with GApps.
You may need to switch between few roms to find what you feel best for your usage.
But before all this, spent couple of weeks with the bone stock device while you research here in XDA about those topics and discuss as you feel clearing doubts !!
Note:- if vendor is refusing to sell bone stock device, it's better no to buy it.
What NaXal said is right.. Custom ROM can be used to hide issues with phone by saying this feature is not support in custom ROM ++ also hide malicious software for capture personal info banking info.. Etc.. Buy phone stock ROM locked bootloader.. Root layery
try AEX5.5+NamelessKernal+thermal Mod

Firmware Questions

I've been getting frustrated with the stock lollipop firmware on this device. Just doesn't feel snappy enough, but I seem to remember the device being quite good when I first got it. Had a few questions about stock as well as custom ROMs for this device:
1) Does anybody know if I can downgrade to one of the kitkat firmwares? Perhaps those will be more responsive than the LL ones. Note that I am currently running Resurrection Remix on it, but it was updated to the last LL ROM before I switched to RR, so the bootloader is the latest one out there.
2) I tried Lineage and RR custom ROMs .. Lineage was very buggy, while RR was quite stable. However, RR is not very responsive either, and it does not seem like the team is maintaining it anymore, because I have not seen any updates in a while and for some reason they made it near impossible to do an OTA update! Have not tried any of the unofficial custom ROMS. Anybody have any suggestions on a good one?
I use the device exclusively to read on and write with. I don't do any media, no games, no nothing else. Looking for the leanest and smoothest experience I can get for this use case. Any suggestions?
I don't care about knox and have rooted the device on stock LL successfully (I even have a guide here on how to patch the boot images to make it happen) ... Would going back to stock and then rooting, debloating and using a custom kernel deliver better results for my use case?
Any and all suggestions appreciated. Just don't ask me to go out and buy a new tablet This thing is in good shape and all I want to do with it is make it a glorified e-book reader, that shouldn't be too hard, right?
Thanks,
Karthik
I think the mistake you're making is that you have a newer phone... The newer hardware is blitzingly fast in comparison to the older hardware.
You need to remember, this tablet is almost 6 years old...
That said, you might get a bit more speed out of a newer kernel and OS but a factory reset might work just as well.
If you fill up the internal storage the tablet WILL lag big time...

You are 100% right about the new phone messing up the experience. And already did the reset, and the internal storage is EMPTY, just the OS and a bunch of pdfs and epubs for me to read, nothing else on it, apps are minimal too.
Knowing that the hardware is old, I suppose what I would really like to do is slim down the OS and overheads to such an extent that the tablet is basically a glorified ebook reader. I just want the scrolling, selection, notes taking and so on to be as smooth as it can be.
I ended up using the ElementalX kernel manager to set the governors and whatever else I could find to "Performance" and already it made a noticeable difference when I read. But when I type in Word, there is still the occasional stutter that bugs me. I have not put a custom kernel on there yet, mainly because I wanted to do both ROM and kernel all at once. It seems like RR is no longer updating for this device, so I might have to move back to Lineage, but I wonder if the community can suggest any other ROMs that are good. Again, its not that I need the updates or care about being on the latest Android version, but RR is not as good as I want right now, and without future updates it means its as good as its going to get.
What would be great is a way to go back to stock TW, root it and then strip it bare, load a custom kernel in there and tweak the crap out of it for performance (don't even care about battery) ... Too much to ask?
You should be able to go back to stock using ODIN - you will have to root again.
Then you could use a debloater script or app to kill off all the functions you don't want/need.
Using an sd card may also slow down the system a bit as it is a bottleneck to the faster internal storage but if you have the 32gb version that should be enough to have a library on it as an ebook reader and still have room for word processing...
I'm waiting to see how the new Lineage rom develops before committing to it as development has slowed or petered out on other roms I found of interest.
Also one last thing to consider, you only have 3gb of ram on your 10.1 2014 edition... This will slow things down A LOT...
Most phones now have at least 4gb of ram so your already behind...
If you want to see slow, dust off an old phone or tablet that has only 1 or 2gb ram... Seriously, it feels like waiting forever.
Tthat's all I have for you other than trying to get the stock rom from Sammobile.com...
Cheers...

Yes, but for some reason the last time I did this, I ended up with a bootloop that was only resolved by going back to Lineage. I will try this again though. Bigger question is whether I can only go back to stock 5.x ROM or downgrade back to 4.x ROM. I would like to go back to 4.x because I feel that might be faster and smoother, but to be perfectly honest, I don't remember!
I don't have a memory card either, 32 gig version and its enough for my use, especially with cloud storage doing the heavy lifting.
I just switched back to Lineage from RR because, for some reason MS Word was having difficulty understanding that it was running on a small tablet (wouldn't let me save without Office 365 because it thought I was using a bigger device) ... Lineage is REALLY slow compared to RR, not sure why this is. Going to play with the kernel settings and look for some custom kernels and see if that makes a difference. If not, goodbye to Lineage and back to stock with root and kernel tweaks.
Are there even any other ROMs still being updated? I see unofficial Lineage 16, but not really sure if I should be getting that ambitious!
Maybe I should spend some time looking up ROM build guides and try my hand at making a clean 'e-reader ROM'
Yes, the RAM thing is a problem certainly, but I figure killing everything else and using it exclusively for reading and writing should not be bottle-necked by 3gigs of RAM. However, I do know what you mean about using an old phone with 1 or 2 gigs, and its a NIGHTMARE!
Sammobile doesn't let me download the older ROMs anymore without coughing up for a premium account. But thankfully, I found some other sources to get me the other ROMs, so phew, thats a relief...

If you get bootloop, you need to wipe device completely...
