No prompt for Storage Encryption password/pattern - One (M9) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have encrypted my data on the M9 (see settings->storage->encryption) . Every time you reboot the phone, a prompt for the password (in my case a pattern) appears before the phone proceeds and decrypts your data. A failed attempt after 50(?) tries resets the phone to factory. Currently, the encryption option in settings is checked and not modifiable but rebooting never produces a decryption password query?
This is a SPRINT phone Android Ver.: 7.0 Security Patch level: Feb 1. 2017

Don't quote me on this but I think it applies to turning the phone off and back on. Once the phone knows the key it's pointless to keep asking every time you unlock the device because if you know the pattern then it is obviously you..

[Q] device encryption

If you use device encryption, do you then have to enter a password each time you turn the screen on, or only each time you power the phone on after it had been powered down?
And can you later decide to undo the encryption?
After further searching, I've discovered that the device-encryption password is only entered when the device powers up (reboots). However, the UI forces the same password to be used for the unlock screen as for the device encryption, so it's just as though the device-encryption password has to be used for each unlock. (There are hacks to work around that restriction, but they require rooting.)
New question for anyone using device encryption, please: Are you still able to set a long delay (up to one hour) before the lock screen engages, or does it always engage immediately when the device is encrypted, requiring password entry each time you pick up the phone?
Also, still wondering if anyone who's tried it knows whether device encryption can later be reversed/disabled. If so, I'll just go ahead and experiment. But I'd rather not do so if I'd have to factory-reset in order to undo it.

Phone Encryption, PIN/Password prompt at boot time stopped working

I recently upgraded my phone (Huawei G8) to android version 6.0.1
model: Huawei G8 RIO-L01
Build Number: RIO-L01C185B321
EMUI Version: EMUI 4.0
Android Version: 6.0.1
Custom Version: CUSTC185D005
I enabled encryption and the phone asked for password at boot time, which was normal. However, I then configured "accessibilityā€¯ option ("switch access" for testing purposes) and the phone stopped prompting PIN/Password at boot time. The normal remedy of this problem over Internet is to disable accessibility and then reset PIN/Password but this did not work for me. No matter how many times I reset PIN/Password, the phone never prompted PIN/password at boot time.
So I tried encryption without enabling any accessibility option and it seemed to work as expected i.e. prompted PIN at every boot. However, as soon as I changed PIN (just for the sake of testing), it stopped prompting.
This phone also has no "Secure start-up" option to specify PIN at startup/boot explicitly. Having no password at boot sort of defeats the whole encryption purpose.
Anyone has solution to this issue? I did not try encryption in the old version (android 5) on this phone so I can't really say if this issue was present in earlier version as well.

"Android upgrading" message on 3.2.7

I noticed that when I enable "PIN on boot" in security settings (when setting a PIN, it gives you the option to require the pin to boot - to my understanding it's hiding the decryption key for /data in another boot image, which then decrypts the key and hands over the boot process) I can briefly see a "Android is upgrading" message before I can enter the PIN.
It does not take long, it just does this on every boot. Note this is for the decryption only, it's not for the "regular" Android lockscreen that comes later.
I was wondering if there's anything wrong with this, or if it's just like this. It's not a major annoyance.
Maybe someone else on 3.2.7 can check and let me know.
Thanks!
I'm having the same thing here on 3.2.7 but never really wondered why tbh
I used to see that but I removed the "pin on boot" option as it is just annoying as it means the phone stops in the bootup process and you have to manually continue it. If you turn that off then the phone still requires a pin entry instead of fingerprint to unlock the first time after booting.
That's true. But it means your system is still much easier to break into. When Android has fully booted, the data partition has already been decrypted. Pin on boot (to my knowledge) unlocks the partition only after the pin has been set.

Removing encryption causes problems?

If anyone can help that would be awesome - this is the first time i have encountered this problem on an android device.
one of the first things i do is remove encryption on my android phones because
1. i like the option
and 2. i notice a considerable amount of difference.
now starting from Pie we have metadata encryption with file encryption
removing metadata encryption causes 0 problems.
however when i remove file encryption i run into a problem
i am un-able to setup a fingerprint (the option isnt even there anymore)
also when i set up a PIN, i am unable to change it (it says incorrect pin)
when i use the pin to unlock the phone, it says "wrong pin" but it works in unlocking the phone.
i didnt experience this on my oneplus 5/6 or samsung / huawei devices having them decrypted.
does anyone know how we can get fingerprint / pin working without encryption?
i notice the phone is more responsive and snappy without encryption

Question Locked Out of My Phone

I did something stupid just now. I tried to soft-reboot my OP9P for the first time, and it stuck at the boot animation going round and round forever. So I hard-rebooted it by holding down the power button. Now when I power it up it's asking me for a password. Thing is, I don't even remember setting a password. But it will be factory reset if I say "forgot password", and that will be a total disaster.
Is there any way to bypass this?

or you will suffer, eventually.

None of those works for me, because I'm at the recovery stage, not the Android lockscreen. But thanks for trying.
Sorry, sort of thought as much.
The password thing may indicate a hardware failure in the flash memory or a rootkit.
A complete reflash maybe the only cure if possible. Even if that works other issues may reoccur if it's a hardware failure.
Flash memory data shouldn't mutate by itself.
Have you tried your pincode?
Guys, I was able to unlock my phone. It was the license plate of my first car. Must have set it in my sleep. Thanks to everyone who tried to help.
