[RECOVERIES & ROOT] Yureka custom recoveries & Root without Changing Stock Recovery
Note : This tutorial is for YU Yureka based on CM11 (KK 4.4.4) 32bit architecture
and
do it on your own risk, I will not be responsible if you brick your phone
Here is the detailed guide and collection of stock and all custom recoveries for YU Yureka and detailed guide to Root YU Yureka without changing Stock Recovery
Requirements
1. YU Yureka (obviously) with USB Data cable
2. PC / Laptop (Having Windows installed at least Windows 7 or above)
3. Drivers (Windows Automatically detect and install the required drivers)
4. ADB & Fastboot binary package that can be downloaded from XDA 15 seconds ADB Installer v1.4.2']http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2588979
5. Custom Recovery (Anyone in which you are interested CWM, PhiZ, TWRP)
6. Latest SuperSU.zip file to root your phone
Warning: This process may delete all data stored in internal storage so better backup all the files stored in internal storage.
Step One
Enable USB Debugging on your device you can just follow these steps:
Go to Settings> About phone and keep taping on build number at least 7 times or till it appears "You are a developer now",
Now again go to settings>developer option (only after the previous step it will be enabled)> check/select USB debugging.
Step Two
Unlock your bootloader to flash custom recovery and root.
Here is the process
1. Download the adb & fastboot binary package and install it.
2. Put your phone into FASTBOOT mode by following anyone from below methods :
Method 1 (easiest)
-------------------
a. Power down phone
b. Plug USB cable to your PC
c. Press and hold Vol Up button and plug other end of USB to your device, soon you will see the fastboot screen.
(or without plugging USB Cable, Press and Hold Power and Vol Up buttons simultaneously, until you see the screen
"FASTBOOT MODE"
Method 2
---------
a. While your phone is Power On, plug USB Data Cable with PC and Phone (USB Debuging must be Enable)
b. Open Command Prompt on your PC (with Administartor rights) and type the following command
adb -s 0x1ebf devices
You will get results something like that :
* daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *
* daemon started successfully *
List of devices attached
3a289c2 device
*Note : If you get "authorization message" then look on your mobile screen and authorize your PC and run the command again.
c. Now note down the device no. (for e.g. in above "3a289c2") and type the following command
adb -s 3a289c2 reboot bootloader
[*Note replace the device id with your id (here 3a289c2), that you got in last command]
Now your phone must be booted into fastboot mode. A screen with "Fastboot Mode" should be appear on your phone.
3. Device drivers will get installed by windows (please wait for the driver installation to complete)
4. After driver installation is done go to the folder where you have extracted the package
5. Now open elevated DOS command prompt (terminal) on your PC and go into the same folder where you saved the recovery file
(*Note : to start command prompt directly from desired folder, while holding the Shift Key Right Click on folder and select start "open command window here")
6. Type the following command to check if the device was detected in fastboot mode
fastboot -i 0x1ebf devices
you should get output like : 2a25d00 fastboot
if you don't get similar output it means that the drivers weren't correctly installed or the device wasn't connected properly
7. If the output is similar to above then run the following command:
fastboot -i 0x1ebf oem unlock
you should get output something like :
.....
OKAY [ 0.003s]
finished. total time: 0.004s
8. Now your bootloader is now unlocked.
*Note : if you want to re-lock your bootloader again (for warranty on any other reason), again boot into fastboot mode and this time type the following command and enter
fastboot -i 0x1ebf oem lock
Step Three
Boot your phone into recovery (temporarily or permanently) and root your phone
1. Download SuperSU.zip and put it on root of your internal or external SD card
2. To load custom recovery (CWM / TWRP / PhiZ) temporarily, now type this command in terminal :
fastboot -i 0x1ebf boot CWM_6.0.5.1_recovery-yu.img
*Note 1 : if you want to flash the custom recovery permanently then us the following command
fastboot -i 0x1ebf flash CWM_6.0.5.1_recovery-yu.img
*Note 2 : if your download custom recovery is named differently (here CWM_6.0.5.1_recovery-yu.img) then while writing the above commands you need to put the name of the recovery same as as your saved file name (anyone CWM / Phiz / TWRP)
3. Done ! You loaded custom recovery temporarily, if command used with "boot" hence to root your phone, proceed to next section (step 5).
or
If you flashed recovery permanently, using command with "flash" then boot your phone into recovery. To do so, you have Two options
i) type the following command and press enter : adb -s 3a289c2 reboot recovery
or
ii) power off your phone, after then press and hold "Vol up+ Vol down + Power" buttons simultaneously to boot into custom recovery.
Now to root your phone proceed with next section (step 5).
Root your phone
5. To gain root access, flash SuperSu.zip that is stored on your internal or external SD card (in step 1)
6. Choose reboot phone and enjoy rooted phone with stock or custom recovery !
Special Note 1
I didn't tested, but came to know that root doesn't effect OTA update on Yureka.
You can get OTA updates with root but after the OTA update is flashed you will loose root access. To keep it or to avoid this please go to System Settings -> Developer Options -> UNTICK -"Update CM Recovery" (update recovery while installing system updates)
Even though if someone want to go back to Stock recovery, then download the official stock recovery (link no. 6 above) and flash it using command in fastboot mode (second command in step 2 under head "STEP THREE")

Few errors noted:
1. You can't say flashing recovery when you are booting it.
2. In step 3 point 3 is not valid because when your command is to boot it will automatically boot into recovery you need not use combination keys.
3. Last point vender id is wrong !!!
Few suggestions:
1. It feels like you have not tested this by yourself
2. There is already a guide for "rooting without flashing recovery". Search before posting.

Dear aaskking
Thanks to inform. Here is the corrections
1 & 2 - Tutorial updated with "boot" and "flash" commands separately.
3 + Vendor ID is correct nothing wrong in it.
4 - I already tested all those procedures and commands. I never post anything without testing.
5 - Yes, I also seen that available guide, but that is not so much detailed and also required files links are not provided.
Anyway, thanks for your suggestions.

Great mate cheers just checked and tried that ota updates are available and work.. On stock recovery... Locked bootloader and with root..
Achieved this by downgrading to the very first cm11 firmware and got then rooted it and locked the bootloader then I just booted it and got the incremental update .. Downloaded and flashed .. Works perfectly.. Root not lost due to the untick in dev options..
Thanks again Arjun Singh, for confirming OTA updates are working.
I am already on Stock ROM & recovery {rooted} and tried the same procedure {locked the bootloader}, but no updates for me.
Is updates are really there, or something wrong with me ?
Sent from my AO5510 using Tapatalk
I am simply unable to get the device listed in command prompt after fastboot mode is enabled. my phone has option to boot into fastboot mode in power options. i tried that option, i tried using command to boot into fastboot. But somehow, when phone is in fastboot mode, it does not get detected by fastboot application (even though windows installs drivers successfully).
I have tried 3 different laptops. All had same problem. No idea how to solve this.

I tried this method but phone does not get detected in fastboot mode at all. I have drivers installed for all different modes I connect my phone as. No luck at all.
Also, weird thing is, I have an option to directly go to fastboot mode from the power menu.

Your driver's are not installed
As there is no special drivers setup, so connect your PC with Internet then plug your phone and let Windows install drivers automatically.

Hi everyone! I have a real problem with my phone. I tried to update the OS of the EMUI and Android from the server and the system crashed and i don´t know why!!! You can extract the UPDATE.APP from the zip file and create a dload folder with the UPDATE.APP in it and copy it to the SD card. I believe your recovery is stock so power off your phone, power on the phone while holding VOL+ & VOL-. You will see emui recovery and it will install the UPDATE.APP from the SD card. Once finish just reboot your phone.
if you have TWRP install, you may have to flash the phone with the original recovery image first. Extract the required "RECOVERY.img" from an original "UPDATE.APP" file using the Huawei Update Extractor and then flash it using fastboot:
Enable developer mode and connect via USB
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot flash recovery RECOVERY.img
Reboot
Then, created a "dload" folder on your SD card and placed the original "UPDATE.APP" inside. Unplug USB (important!) and reboot while holding Vol+ & Vol-. This should install the original firmware from your SD card. You will lose all your data!
Finally, you can lock your bootloader:
Enable developer mode and connect via USB
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot oem relock <YourPersonalUnlockCodeHere>
Reboot

Thank you very much for your response, I will review this information this weekend and see if it works for me.
Dear, try to run the update by the process of volume up and down to take from the SD but it was impossible, I still throw the error.
I wanted to ask if you know how to unlock the bootloader to be able to do it by ADB and watch videos on YouTube and try different bootloader unlocking processes but did not serve.

Did you get your unlock from Huawei website? If not then register an account here
Once you're registered, login to your account and go to this site and click on unlock. scroll down and tick the agreement and click next.
Insert all the required details and proceed. you will get your unlock code. Save the code and keep it incase your need to relock your bootloader.
make sure you have enable USB debugging and enable oem unlock, then connect your phone to PC. In Adb type adb reboot bootloader to boot to fastboot mode. when in fastboot mode in adb type fastboot oem unlock *unlock code*
My problem is that I can not start the S. O, this with fail and I can not do the OEM authorization from it, if not already had it unlocked easier from the same android entering the code that I have.
I need to know if there is any way to unlock the bootloader to be able to enter the code ADB, the problem is that when you login to bootloader is locked, I need to find the way to unblock it without having to enable the debugger and OEM that I'm not Being able to enable it because the system does not work.
Since without this I am seeing that the ADB does not start me. It throws me error when running the FastBoot
my device came with unlocked bootloader, so I tried to flash twrp but every time i type "fastboot flash recovery C:\adb\twrp-3.2.1-3-whyred.img" and hit enter, the device seems to disconnect from pc and there is "press any key to reboot" in fastboot on my phone.
How can I solve this issue?`
Phone gets detected by adb/fastboot tool so its not a driver problem. I tried different cables and usb ports aswell.
Firmware is latest global stable.

Well if you already had adb in your pc, rename the twrp file to recovery, you don't have to move the twrp from download folder, open download folder press shift and right click then select open cmd here, on cmd type "adb device" to see if your device connected, then after that type this "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" press enter than after that type "fastboot boot recovery.img" TEAMWIN logo should appear on your device and then you can unplug your device. Hope this useful
i am trying to flash twrp there is no folder called adb i have installed the 15 second adb and all so i have got this minimal adb flashboot and i tried with that and got this ---- FAILED (remote: Flashing is not allowed in Lock State). i have granted all usb and oem unlocking. please help with this
Phone shows unlocked during the boot?
I had the same Problem, after a Factory Reset works for me.
I am on Miglobe-Rom Miui10 8.6.28.
Minimal ADB is enough.
Or use this from Attachment.
Unpack with Win.zip and copy Twrp in this Folder.
Conect the Phone with your Pc ,boot into Bootloader and click "cmd-here.exe"
Use this Command
fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.2.1-3-whyred.img
@Nazukii - Quick question - any chance you could try running GameBench on your device, and see if our background service dies when the device is disconnected from the PC? I don't have a Note 5 Pro to test, and I've got some user complaints. Any assistance would be awesome!

So my Bootloader is locked,
My phone stuck in MI recovery idk how.
I cant install MIUI via fastboot. Im stuck ..
Can anyone please help me here not sure how to proceed further.
If you have made sure that you have all the drivers installed and still have not solved, you need to use an Intel-based PC / notebook and use a usb 2.0.

Hello. I decided today to clean install the Pixel Experience 10 rom. I previously had a Pixel Experience 9.0 Pie. I did the following:
1. Booted into TWRP and selected Format Data
2. Everything is deleted, so it's time to flash a new rom. The guide says to go Advanced/ADB sideload and enter a command.
3. Command is not working. My phone is connected to the computer but it's not recognized. I can't even manually transfer it to the phone so i can install it via TWRP.
So i enter fastboot. Phone is recognized. When i type fastboot devices i get this:
Code:
C:\adb>fastboot devices
42abad9b fastboot
If i try to flash again a TWRP, my phone disconnects and it asks to reboot the phone by pressing a volume button. And i am stuck here. Nothing i can do. Any suggestions? I haven't done anything unusual. I am truly desperate. Any help will be appreciated.

Hi !
Did you bypass ARB with dummy.img before you flashed TWRP?
Do you use win 10, if you are change usb or use usb hub. If that doesn't help use win 7.
follow the link for details

Good luck and stay safe.

Go back to previous version of TWRP(latest is buggy) or use OrangeFox recovery.
But still if you lose custom recovery you need again start over and bypass ARB.
And check if your bootloader is still unlock.

I can't go to a previous version of TWRP. I can't flash any recovery via fastboot because of the problem i said at the first post. I somehow managed to boot into some previous versions of TWRP via a tool called TOOL_ALL_IN_ONE, but nothing changed. I had the same exact problems.
How will i check in my current status if bootloader is still unlocked?

Use this and post the result...
Code:
fastboot oem device-info
So you managed to get TWRP via TOOL_ALL_IN_ONE, ... when you are in TWRP flash TWRP again via TWRP or better flash OrangeFox Recovery(use SD CARD or adb push - for more info google it for adb commands), than reboot it directly into recovery again by TWRP option reboot to recovery... and now you can flash your ROM.
So make it simple
1st time you'll boot in TWRP by TOOL_ALL_IN_ONE,
than you'll flash recovery via TWRP and make it permanent,
Than you'll directly reboot to recovery via TWRP,
now you can wipe and flash your ROM.
Happy ending :highfive:
The problem was that i couldn't use ADB sideload because the phone wasn't recognized by the computer. And i fixed it in a very weird way, by connecting the phone to the PC monitor's USB hub and that way the phone was discovered by the computer. So i fastbootted the latest TWRP and then easily transferred the ROM i wanted to flash via TWRP. It's crazy that i spent all day just to connect the phone to a USB hub so it could work...

Description
None of the work in this thread is actually made by me. Credit will be given where credit is due.
This is simply a collection of everything required so that it is easier for people to tinker with their Honor 6X, and be able to restore to a working phone quickly if something goes wrong.
All text placed in quotations are either adb or fastboot commands that are to be executed.
Your phone will be connected to the computer for most parts of the process, so unless the instructions specifically says to disconnect the cable, keep it connected.
The power button for my Honor 6X is broken, so some things I do in this guide might seem weird if you have a working one.
Leave any questions, concerns, or feedback below, and I might be able to help with them.

Prerequisites
Huawei Honor 6X (any model)
Windows Computer
USB to micro-b cable
Micro SD card (>4GB)
Micro SD card adapter
adb and fastboot
winrar or alternative archive manager
something to touch testpoints with (i.e. tweezers)
Unlocking Bootloader (REQUIRED FILES: PotatoNV-next-v2.1.0-x86.exe | 2.7MB)
We will be using PotatoNV to be able to unlock the bootloader and get the unlock code.
Full tutorial and troubleshooting can be found here if this explanation is not in depth enough.
Turn off the device. While touching the appropriate testpoints on the motherboard, connect the phone to your computer.
Location of testpoints are beside the fingerprint sensor connector, and can be found in detail here: Honor 6X Testpoints.png | 114 KB
I'm not exactly sure how these testpoints work, but the tutorial on GitHub says connecting point A to ground will put the phone into edl mode once you connect to a computer.
In a video I saw that they bridged the gap between point A and B with a tweezer, and this worked for me reliably so you should use this method if you can.
Open PotatoNV.
Verify that the target device is correct and that it is using COM3.
Select "Kirin 65x (A)" in the bootloader dropdown.
Click start, and the process should unlock the bootloader and output the new unlock code in the console on the right hand side.
Create a text file and paste the code into it! Do not lose the code or you will have to repeat this process again.
Soft Bricked Device to EMUI 2 (REQUIRED FILES: Honor 6X BRICK to EMUI 2.rar | 564.3 MB)
This is an OS designed for testing purposes and is only used for updating to a newer OS in this guide.
Extract [Honor 6X BRICK to EMUI 2.rar]
Install drivers in [Handset ProductLine 2.01.02.00] by launching [DriverSetup.exe]
Launch [idt.exe] in [IDT_V2.0.0.9]
In the toolbar on the top of the screen, click the toolbox icon to the right of the stop icon.
In the file selection prompt that comes up, select [HL2BLNTMBD001051_Download.xml] from [HL2BLNTMBD001051], and press OK.
Turn off the device. While touching the same testpoints on the motherboard as before, connect the phone to your computer.
In the toolbar at the top of the screen, click the play icon to start the flashing process.
After flashing is done, you should be booted into an OS that only has a couple of testing applications.
EMUI 2 to EMUI 5 (REQUIRED FILES: Honor 6X EMUI 2 to EMUI 5.rar | 1.35GB)
You can stop after these steps if you are happy with using stock EMUI 5.
Extract [Honor 6x EMUI 2 to EMUI 5.rar]
"adb reboot bootloader" to reboot to fastboot mode.
Pick any model from the [HonorOEMINFO] folder and move/copy the corresponding file to the adb root folder.
As an example, I used BLN-AL20C00 as it is the most similar to my original model BLN-AL10C00.
If you do not have a preference, you can just do exactly what I did for convenience.
"fastboot flash oeminfo BLN-AL20C00"
Flashing oeminfo relocks the bootloader.
Even if it says your phone is unlocked in the fastboot mode, you are unable to flash images like TWRP.
To find out how to install TWRP on EMUI 5 you can read through the EMUI 5 to EMUI 8 section after.
"fastboot reboot"
Using a computer and an SD card adaptor, create a folder named [dload] in the root directory of the SD card, and move/copy the [update.app] file into this folder.
Insert the SD card back into the phone, unlock the device, and click the software update icon on the home screen.
Click "1. SD card upgrade", and confirm any prompts that pop up.
Your phone should reboot, start the update process, and boot when its done.
The first boot may take a while (~5 min?) so be patient.
EMUI 5 to EMUI 8 (REQUIRED FILES: Honor 6X EMUI 5 to EMUI 8.rar | 1.86GB)
You can stop after these steps if you are happy with using stock EMUI 8.
"fastboot oem unlock code"
Replace code with the actual unlock code that you saved in the text file before.
Ex. "fastboot oem unlock code 71WTJ3N3Q425ASJ4"
A prompt will pop up on your phone display, asking you to confirm if you want to unlock the bootloader. Use volume buttons to scroll to yes and press the power button to confirm.
Your phone will restart and start factory resetting. The factory reset will fail, as expected, but it is fine, just click restart system. Again, this is the first boot and might take a while (~5 min?).
Once your phone has booted up, "adb reboot bootloader"
Move the file [twrp-3.1.1-0-berlin.img] to the [adb] folder.
Once your phone enters fastboot mode, "fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.1.1-0-berlin.img"
"fastboot reboot", once your phone boots, "adb reboot recovery"
For some reason "fastboot reboot recovery" does not actually boot you into the recovery, so we will boot into the OS first.
Move the [adb] folder to your C:/ drive, and put the [HWOTA_BLN_Eng] in the [adb] folder.
Open the [HWOTA8_BLN] folder in the [HWOTA_BLN_Eng] folder. Execute [update_eng.bat] by clicking it.
Enter 1 and press enter. (Repack)
Once that is complete, "adb reboot bootloader"
The script wants to install TWRP, but the recovery that the script wants to install does not seem to work according to my testing.
This is fine because the process of flashing it will fail, as the script tries to execute "fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk image" for some reason.
The recovery_ramdisk parition does not exist on EMUI 5.
Just ignore the error it gives in the console, as we already have TWRP installed anyway, and press enter.
"fastboot reboot", once your phone boots, "adb reboot recovery"
Once your phone boots into TWRP, press enter.
Enter 2 and press enter. (Using the Script)
Enter 1 and press enter. (Change Firmware)
Press enter to continue, and your phone will reboot to TWRP and start flashing the required files.
Once the process is done, go to Reboot -> System, and you should be booting into EMUI 8 in some time.
EMUI 8 to AOSP 10 (REQUIRED FILES: Honor 6x EMUI 8 to AOSP 10.rar | 553.3MB)
"adb reboot bootloader"
Move all of the files in the [Honor 6X EMUI 8 to AOSP 10] folder to the [adb] folder.
"fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk RECOVERY-V2.img"
"fastboot reboot", once your phone boots, "adb reboot recovery"
"adb push -p system-quack-arm64-aonly-vanilla.img /sdcard/"
After that is complete, click on install -> install image button on the bottom right -> click [system-quack-arm64-aonly-vanilla.img] -> choose system image -> swipe to flash.
After the image finishes flashing, go to reboot -> fastboot
"fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk RECOVERY_RAMDIS.img"
We are flashing our stock recovery back in order to be able to reset our phone properly.
Do not factory reset using TWRP as it will softbrick your device, and you will have to start over again.
"fastboot reboot", once your phone boots, "adb reboot recovery"
In the eRecovery, click on clear cache partition, wait for it to complete, then go back and click on factory reset.
The phone will then reboot and factory reset, which will fail, but it is fine, just click reboot and you should be booting into your new OS soon!

Thanks for the reply, I'm trying it out now and I'm an ultra noob. I have not yet unlocked my bootloader because I am afraid of not being able to connect to the machine anymore because each time I enter bootloader mode with the "adb reboot bootloarder" function my phone disconnects and the functions " fastboot devices "and" adb devices "no longer see it. I am using minimal adb and fastboot app and have already enabled usb debugging in my phone. I do not know if it's normal

Check the link in post 6. Install the drivers from attachments of that post.
That's because you don't have the right drivers(Huawei COM) installed.

You have to open the phone to access the Test Point. There's no workaround for this.
TBH, even I hate this step in the whole procedure but you have to do it. Sorry, theres no workaround.

Are you still in EMUI 5?
I did not try using adb on EMUI 5 after unlocking bootloader. It worked perfectly for me on EMUI 8.
If you want to access bootloader or fastboot, turn off your device. Wait for some time. Press and hold Volume down button and plug in usb.
That will take you to fastboot mode.
