[prj][Android 1.6 Donut][AOSP][Theme Noche Oscura][+CAB Install][Ext2 parttion test]

Do Not Bother xdandroid devs, with fillrate or hw3d being faster on donut than on eclair, plz they are not mages, stuff dont just magically work out of no were
Here's what iv been working on, for about a week, its Donut 1.6 AOSP, this rom includes only 2 extra apps aside from the google ones, Since this is based on AOSP i tried to leave it as clean as possible, except of course for the theme i made for it.
This ROM Should pretty much as Stable as Android can get on our Devices, it is also very fast since its based on Donut(no fillrate). If you find any bugs report them on this thread, i will try as best i can to fix it. And yes i know the Date in the status bar is still Default color(black) i will fix it as soon as i find the exact place to change it.

Mass Storage: (For this to work use massstoragerootfs.zip, and replace it with default one, Be warned mass storage is buggy once you mount the SDcard you cannot unmount it, also after you do mount it android will keep mounting the sdcard regardless you want to or not.(this was not made/found out by me it was by gm112, also you have to put the device in active sync mode with usb cable pluged in and then boot android, if not this wont work)

If you chose this method of installation, make shure after it is done installing, navigate to Storage Card/andboot, in there look for STARTUP CONFIG folder inside you will find different startup.txt for each device, pick the one right for your Device and copy it to your andboot folder

well for starters the overall speed of donut is just awesome, there other thing is that there is no fillrate on donut so 3dapps,games and 2d games also don't have that slowness and stutter you get in eclair/froyo(they both lack fillrate or should i say a fixed fillrate?) phh would know how to explain fillrate better than me, but anyways basically it stops the screen from filling extra pixels, Do too our screen being vga. This slows down 3dapps considerably, if you want to see this just run lets say Raging Thuder 2 you will notice how fast it is in donut, and how it stutters and seems like a jpg slideshow on elcair/froyo

Ah, makes sense. I didn't know that stuff about the fillrate either, good info. If only phh could dump all his knowledge into a wiki on a daily basis...
On first impression - very fast, wow! Also, 3g internet works out of the box. Can't seem to get GPS workin tho. Seems like it may be disabled completely, if I only have the GPS option enabled under Security & Location, Google Maps tells me that I need to enable a My Location source in system settings. Tried also allowing the option to let Google use my location to help their services, didn't make a difference. I never see the GPS icon in the notification bar either.
Still amazed at how fast this build is. Very nice! We'll see how battery life is next. It does seem to be going into deep sleep correctly (I get the 'breathe' LEDs...)

yea its seems that gps is not working, im gona have to talk to phh about this, im almost shure that gps is only enabled for eclair/froyo not for donut im not shure, i guess google maps works because of triangulation
edit: iv talked to stinebd and phh, they say libhardware-legacy need to be backported for donut in order for gps to work, so that i cannot fix sorry

Cool, thanks. I'll try running this for the remainder of the day to see how battery stacks up. There are a few things I've been missing from newer builds, but for the most part this build is awesome!

hah thx, what sucks is root is not working, hopefully someone here figures how to get it working, its probly the way i do my roms that root access gets broken

i do its the su binary located in /system/xbin, but mine just does not have the right permission, or they get lost when i build the rom

Well the phone is still chuggin. Only issues I've ran into so far are the GPS problems I stated earlier, and ADW keeps getting a force close error every hour or two.
I like LauncherPro better, but that's just personal preference. ADW seems alright, but the random crashes are a little obnoxious. Not that LauncherPro is perfect either

im goin to remove awd launcher, that thing FC like crazy(i forgot to remove it before releasing the Rom) anyways use the stock launcher works way better, and i would love to include launcher pro but it does not work on Donut, fede carnales would have to compile it for Donut

I actually prefer stock over anything else. Any program cooked in seems to be more of a hassle, and limits choice the user has.
On another front, I have almost 4hr uptime with 26% battery reported left. That's... probably about what I've gotten with the other ones. With a lot of standby, I could probably stretch it to 7-9 hrs. Not bad, but with heavy usage it depletes pretty quickly... So no marked improvement over other builds, but certainly not any worse either

[Q] Problem with front-facing camera recording

Hi there,
I'm having some issues with my front facing camera and recording. I am running CM10.1 (RC5) on my SGH-T999 and for some reason, every THIRD recording from my front facing camera freezes my phone and forces a reboot.
This is very irritating when using apps like Snapchat or the new Instagram video feature. The Instagram feature especially, because it is a "tap and hold to record," and on the third tap/release it forces a reboot on my phone.
My friend seems to have this issue as well on his Verizon S3 (running CM10). However, I've tried to Google a solution for months now but have yet to find a working one. I just recently decided I wanted to fix this problem because the new Instagram feature isn't quite as fun with this issue.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! This is also my first thread on the subject so if I am missing any vital information that could be helpful, please inform me!
EDIT: I should add that the camera works fine when on stock ROM. However, I've really grown attached to CM10.1 and am hoping I can fix it without reverting.

The problem isnt the camera or the ROM, its the app. The new update for Instagram freeze everyone cameras. But strangely you added Snapchat, this app running fine on CM10.1 4.2.2 for me. Have you tried to uninstall the camera and flash an other one ? Go see this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1966426

I will try update now!
It is any app involving the camera, even the camera app itself. I can record perfectly fine for the first two recordings, but when I try to save the third recording via any app (Snapchat, Instagram, basic camera app) it forces a reboot.
For example, on first recording I can record a 30 second clip; on the second, I can record a 3 minute clip. However, for the third, no matter how long the duration of the previous recordings, it will always crash.
This is only on the front-facing camera, though.
Again, I'll go ahead and try the link you sent me and come back with updates; thanks!

It's been happening forever. Just like when you go into the language & input area, and do something, press back, force close. Every time.
Honestly, the CM camera is pretty lacking (all of the CM apps are). If it's an issue for you, there are other ones on the market. Oh wait... no there isn't. Plenty of camera apps, no video apps.

Aw man, so there's no fix to this? Would you be able to recommend any other custom ROMs similar to CM that have a working front-facing camera? I know it is a rather juvenile reason to switch ROMs, but all my friends are doing front-faced recordings via Instagram and Snapchat and I'd love to join the fun.

This app did not work for me, it still crashes upon third record, unfortunately.

I don't think it's a juvenile reason at all. Actually, I think it's pretty incredible that it hasn't been fixed yet. The camera is arguably the second most important part of the phone. I'm sure it will be fixed in time, but it's just a reminder that we are nowhere near 10.1 stable yet. They may think so, but I beg to differ. I'm reminded of when 10.1 was brand new. Phone calls wouldn't work half of the time. Some people are still having occasional issues (me included).
Unfortunately for you, most AOSP ROMs are based on the CM code. Looks like it's either live with it, or use a TW ROM.

That's a shame... I am surprised I was unable to find any information about this before posting my own thread if it's such a widespread issue!
Do you have any suggestions on TW ROMs? I realize I should probably look myself but you seem to be quite knowledgeable. :good:

I used Wicked for a time, but the I think the dev is cheating on us with other devices

Had just commented on this in the cm thread... Damn that sucks. Having the same issues. My main camera can capture pictures in a third party app but as soon as I switch to ffc I crash into a hard reboot. Don't know if that transfers over to skype but man that's a bummer. I know that Google hangouts uses the native cm camera so that works but instagram, fb, and even snapchat sometimes (at least for me) will frag some times.
I missed you aero! Haven't seen you over in cm land but then, as you posted earlier, you got off the nightly train for a while. Miss your knowledge and expertise

New members (those with fewer than 10 posts) are not permitted to post to development-related forums.
The problem occurs on all Rom except those based on TouchWiz.
Every third recording with front facing camera on any apps freezes the phone and forces a reboot.
It is strange that almost nobody talks about this problem.

Oh Shoot. My bad. I keep forgetting it all the time.
Are you using the Social Media apps to do the video Recording ? If yes, can you follow the bellow steps ?
1. Wipe Data for all the social apps you can possibly use to do Video Record.
2. Go to Recovery, wipe Dalvik + Cache Reboot.
3. Do not open any of the social Media app.Use the regular Camera app. Do the 3 video recordings and report back.

Seeing as this thread came back alive, does this also matter with audio recording? Using viber and what's app you can make wifi calls and leave voice sms respectively, but every time I try to do so the audio sounds like I'm 10 underwater with Optimus prime talking

If that doesn't work, try another Rom.

I also have this problem... Each time I record 3 times with the front facing camera using the default camera app or any other app (like snapchat), on the third try my phone crashes and reboots... Using GS3 CM10.2

I too am having this problem on CM-based ROMs. Every third recording with the ffc my phone crashes and reboots itself. Bummer it has to do with CM based ROMs.

So there still hasn't been a fix for this /.\ I use snap chat and IG all the time but can't cause the camera just reboots ;/ only on front tho

Update2: Xprivacy is the bad guy not xposed framework. I'll head over there to see whether we can get it running

Hi there,
as of lately I can't find a touchwiz camera which doens't incredibly lag when using its settings. For example choosing a shooting mode takes for ages as the scrolling doesn't work properly. This is highly annoying because if you want to take a certain photo in a certain situation you find yourself stuck waiting for the scrolling to complete so that you can choose low light shot or whatever.
This scrolling lag is only visible in the stock camera settings. I've tried different roms and different samsung camera.apks. also some from xda which mere modded.
Is it maybe because most cameras have their bitrate increased and therefor the app can't really handle it? but then again shouldn't other people face the same problem?
Help is greatly appreciated.

I wrote about it couple weeks ago unfortunately no one replied I also noticed camera menues lag like crazy.... Don't know how to solve it... I don't remember it was like this ALWAYS?? I use stock/rooted/xposed framework

Good news, everyone! CM 11 is running
So far, everything except ANT+ seems to be working, but I couldn't test all of it. So you be the judge. If you have any problems, fix them. Help each other, I might even try to help, but I don't have the time to fully maintain this build. Device trees and everything needed to build this will come shortly and I'm sure someone capable will take over maintenance, soon!
As with every CyanogenMod rom, you will need an unlocked bootloader and a custom recovery. Gapps are not included.
I am not responsible for any bricking or data loss or whatsoever!

This rom has nothing to do with stock.. Apart from a couple of proprietary firmware files.

I'm testing the rom and will report back as soon as I find anything interesting. I'm really excited!

Animations run very slowly. I've disabled them for the time being.
I've had some issues waking from sleep. Will try to isolate.
The camera launches very slowly, but this is also the case on the Z1 CM11 build.

I've found the following issues so far:
Proximity sensor does not work (ANT+ related, I assume)
Photosphere does not show up at all, no matter what camera version you install. I have a 4.3 camera whose Photosphere worked fine on the stock rom. I tested others and none worked on CM 11
Yes, animations/transitions are slow in certain situations, but not always
I'm not sure the battery level is being measured correctly. Either this thing is amazingly more optimized or the reading is wrong. I'll be able to test that fully tomorrow when I start the day with a full charge
I'm really glad this came out. These issues are not gonna stop me from using the crap out of this rom! Thank you, OP and other contributors! :good:

Animations run very slowly. I've disabled them for the time being.
I've had some issues waking from sleep. Will try to isolate.
The camera launches very slowly, but this is also the case on the Z1 CM11 build.

Yeah they do some times for me, too. OpenGL etc are working perfectly, no idea why that happens so far. It's smooth most of the time though. Will try to debug
Never had that, could you try to replicate that error and produce logs?
It launched very slowly the first time, for me, too. But now its almost instantaneously

Isn't Photosphere a Nexus exclusive feature? I always thought so. But then, I only used Nexus devices in the past..
Transitions, yeah, what I wrote earlier
For now, battery seems normal for me, it has been pretty amazing on stock, too. But I haven't gotten this ROM running nearly long enough to say if battery life is longer or not.

When I try to install this rom via Phils Recovery, then the installation always cancels with the message: This package is for "D5503, amami, anami" devices, this is a "honami". How can I install CM?

By using CWM recovery or by asking Phil to set the proper product name
Honami = Z1, anami = Z1c

Problem solved, I installed wrong Recovery Version from Phil. I installed the version for Z1 instead of Z1C

Playing a little bit around with CM I found some things out:
1. When I charge my phone with magnetic cable, CM thinks my phone is in docking station. As effect the sound is disabled because the phone tries to route it through the docking station port.
2. In standby, camera app should be startet if camera button is pressed. There is only an option to turn on screen and to unlock phone with camera button. So two clicks on camera button are needed to start camera, which is uncomfortable.
3. On my motorola defy, cyanogenmod supported to save apps on the sd card. Is it possible to include this feature also in this cm version?
And as already mentioned:
Camera is slow and animations are laggy.

1. Well the charging pin should only be used on docks so I think that's normal.
2. Would need some modifications for that probably.
3. Motorola defy has an outdated OS of android... apps on sdcard has been removed since android 4.0 ice cream sandwich.

1. Yeah, originally the magnetic port was just intended for docking stations, so the behaviour is kind of wanted. Not sure if the Z1(c) actually is able to route audio through the port, so maybe this actually should be disabled. There definitely should be a quick fix to make this adjustable at least.
2. Same thing, should be an option for that in the future.
3. Apps2SD is not officially supported anymore. There are hacks afaik, but I won't do and support that.
Slow camera is a known bug, even for the Z1. As for the animations, I have no idea on how to debug them. Benchmarks and games suggest that OpenGL is working just fine. Any ideas anyone?

This is a Camera Mod I have worked with since Note3 And now for The Samsung S6 (g920p) on Nougat 7.0. Might work for other S6's, or Samsungs. Might.
Anyway... my version ACTUALLY cracks the bitrate limit, but it applies it to all resolutions. 70Mbps to videos no matter UHD or not. Some may get lil lower, but 70 is the norm.
Not sure if flashable. Might have to extract zip and manually place files with a file explorer type app in proper areas, fix permissions, then reboot.
does:
-Unlocks bitrate to 70Mbps
-enables HDR for UHD and QHD (Front and Rear Cam)
-adds effects to UHD and QHD
-full 100% maxed out uncompressed jpegs (makes png jealous)
-320kbps audio for recorded videos
Timer is time left to be able to record.
bugs:
-don"t take snapshot with UHD or QHD while recording...it freezes cam app.
future goals:
-not same bitrate for all resolutions while still allowing limit crack. no eta! ( Some may get magically lucky )
for install: (Replace)
-Media profile: root/ect/media_profiles.xml
-Camera Features: root/system/cameradata/camera-featuresv6.xml
-Cam App: root/system/priv-app/SamsungCamera6.apk
(make same permissions as original files before reboot)
might work with other samsung cams as well, or any cam app. MIGHT! Not sure.

No prob. I was happy to share. Funny thing is that I only have had this cell for about 3 weeks..not even yet lol. I had help rooting and then after that I wanted the cam modded...didnt see anything. So, I worked at it for about a week til I got what you see. Only thing I work on modding.

If you have it all working, you might consider making the mod a Magisk module, which will keep SafetyNet passing for everyone using it.

It is a Magisk module...the new 2019 one anyway. Then again, I could probably smash both into one ...give me a few.
