Hi everyone,
I'm going mad to find a way to replace my boot animation. Since I've installed the Pixel boot animation via Magisk, I've been no longer able to change it, via flashing or manually replacement. I've uninstalled of course the app that operated the last change to my boot animation before doing this operation. By trying the manually replacement my explorer says I can't delete, rename or move the bootanimation.zip because "It can't be remounted" or something like this. Does anyone know how to solve this problem?
Thanks in advance!

What file manager are you using? I use root explorer pro, it asks me if I want to re-mount the partition to read write then let's me do what I want with the file.

@RegularSam: if your filemanager is too lazy, use TWRP:
Mount system, then Advanced ..FileManager.

I've tried with TWRP, replaced the boot animation.zip with the one I want but when I boot into the system it's like the old bootanimation from Magisk, for some reason, overwrite again the new, I've already tried twice. Any thoughts?

I use Solid Explorer, spent 3 euros to buy it so I have to make it work in some way lol. Anyway I'll make a try with Root Explorer.
Solved. Even if before all the changes I've deleted the module on Magisk, don't know why but in cache/magisk_mount there was still a sort of backup of the old bootanimation which was "reflashed" everytime some change to the media folder where made. Anyway, I simply renamed this file by adding .bak and flashed the bootanimation that I want, all from TWRP. In fact, another weird thing is that also Root Explorer can't handle this file, it gives in return the same problem of Solid Explorer, even by unmount e remount again. I can only touch these files from TWRP, don't know why.

Ahoy! Simply put, I'd like to install a new boot animation on my rooted HTC Desire HD running Android Revolution HD 3.0.
I've searched how to do this but I don't exactly understand.
I understand that I can 'push' the new bootanimation.zip to data/local via ADB, but some guides/installation tutorials have simply said 'copy bootanimation.zip to data/local.'
I'd much prefer to be able to simply copy the .zip to data/local and not have to deal with ADB as I have not yet used it, but how do I do this? Am I misunderstanding?
I thought 'copy to data/local' would be as simple as using for example, Astro File Manager and copying the new bootanimation.zip from my SDcard to data/local, however there is no 'local' folder inside of the 'data' folder and the option to create a new folder is greyed-out.
Long story short:
What's the simplest method of installing a bootanimation?
Can I simply 'copy bootanimation.zip to data/local?' If so, how?
If I have to use ADB to install the bootanimation, what is the exact process of doing this?
I'm sure this has been asked before, but my searches confused me more than cleared anything up. Thank you for any help in advance!
You need a program like root explorer(es file explorer with root access should work too) for the copy/paste method because the bootanimation.zip isn't stored at your sd card but at the phones internal memory.
At the root of your phone you should see folders like sdcard, dev, root and many more. One of them is called data. In this folder there is one called local. There should be a file called bootanimation.zip. just replace this file with your bootanimation.zip.
Normally it can't damage your phone when your bootanimation has a wrong format or whatever. If the new file is broken, you'll get a black screen instead of an animation but the phone will boot anyway
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
I see the folder you're talking about in both Astro and ES File Viewer, but this 'data' folder is empty by default. There's no bootanimation.zip and there's no 'local' folder.
I'm confused.
take a look at /system/media

Use ES File Explorer, and make sure that you enable root mode in settings. Use hiapk mode. Also remount /system and /data, that option is also in the settings.

Thank you. This worked perfectly. I wasn't aware I needed to do this. Thanks again.
Edit: I've encountered another problem. Whenever I now attempt to access my SD card via ES File Explorer, I get the error "SD Card Unmounted or not present." How do I rectify this? It works fine in Astro.
Edit 2: I attempted to unmount /system and /data simply by unticking the option in ES (i'm really only just starting to delve into this sort of thing now and don't know what I'm doing.) and it says 'failed to mount'. How do I fix this also? ;P
Edit 3: Re-installing ES File Explorer fixed the above two issues, but I assume it will do the exact same thing again. For the time being and a short fix, is re-installing the app each time OK? I don't exactly know what 'failed to mount' or 'SD Card unmounted or not present' errors mean. I get the idea, but I'm not sure if they're really doing any damage.
I found my original boot animation in '/system/customize/resource/' and replaced with a custom one. Worked!
So here is my thing, I want a custom splash screen and boot animation but I'm running into a problem. Everytime I try to flash it using
fastboot flash splash1 evosplash1.rgb565 I get the error (failed: no remote access) or something like that.
I found out it's because my hboot is 2.10......
but I am unable to downgrade from what I have seen because my readout from adb shell is that I have the 40000 block build or something like that and because i have that build I cant downgrade and because I cant downgrade I cant have a custom splash page and boot animation.
Any ideas?
It isn't at all true that you can't have a custom splashscreen or boot animation. You can either find a flashable zip of the boot animation you want to use and flash it via recovery, or you can manually place it in the correct folder and set permissions using Root Explorer. The location of the boot animation is dependent on the rom. If it isn't flashable, it needs to be named exactly bootanimation.zip in order for it to work once you've put it in the correct folder. I usually just rename the old one and leave it there in case I decide I don't like the new one.
Splashscreens, and I might be wrong about this because I've never used a custom one, can be loaded as a PC36IMG in the bootloader. I believe there are a small handful of them that can be flashed in recovery.
Hopefully someone that actually knows something about splash screens will chime in, since I'm afraid I may be giving out bad information when it comes to that.

Thank you for your insight. The issue I'm running into is I can't figure out how to get into the folder to place the boot animation. With the hboot being 2.10..... it won't let me change anything in there.

Your hboot has nothing to do with it, you need to boot into the rom and do it there. You can use Root Explorer to copy/cut and paste the boot animation into the correct folder. Rename the existing one to something else, you'll need to mount as r/w by tapping the button near the top that says "mount r/w". After you've moved the new boot animation and renamed it properly (if needed), you will need to set the permissions to match the old one. You can do this by long pressing the file and selecting permissions from the list. Then mount as r/o the same way you mounted r/w. When you've finished, reboot.
You should see your new boot animation
If you don't have Root Explorer, I would suggest buying it - it will come in handy. You can also use EStrongs and I believe File Expert has an option for root access. In ES File Explorer, you have to enable root functions in settings. I don't know if you can mount r/w through the app and it may not operate the same as my directions, but it's free. For root file actions, Root Explorer is just more polished in my opinion and well worth the money.

Thanks man, works great. The only issue I'm having is I can not get any audio. The audio is in the format spc_bootanimation_final.m3 and the bootanimation is spc_bootanimation.zip, any ideas?

Well, that 'man,' is actually a lady, and a good one too. Working on another gold star.
And it needs to be SPC_bootanimation_final.mp3 [yes, its case sensitive.] And try renaming the animation to just bootanimation. Are you on an aosp or sense rom?
Sorry mam, not man lol. Wish my ol lady was that technical lol.
I'm on sense, I didn't know if I shuld try to rename it to just bootanimation.zip or not since the rom's animationwas spc_anmation.zip and it was all in lowercase as well. I'll try the upper on the audio though.

Well with gaining the skill, comes time, lol.
Well its been since 'nam since I ran sense, though I keep the kingdom rom as my sense rom. For the audio, with the SPC in caps, that should work, and the same for the just bootanimation.zip as well.
Ok, so the mp3 wasin format SPC_bootanimation_final.mp3 and I set the permissions the same as the bootanimation. Could it be because it is just the audio file, not a zip with the text file in it?

Well the audio file is just that, just the file .mp3. It may have been because they weren't formatted/named correctly.
So here is where I am. I have the boot animation working flawlessly and have successfully changed it to 4 different animations without problem. Sound is still the problem. Here is what I have tried.
SPC_bootanimation_final.mp3
spc_bootanimation_final.m3
SPC_bootanimation.mp3
spc_bootanimation.mp3
SPC_bootsound_final.mp3
spc_bootsound_final.mp3
SPC_bootsound.mp3
spc_bootsound.mp3
I have it in the same folder as the animation (system/customize/resource) with the same permissions (Readwner, group, others...Write: group)
I'm at a loss, everything should work but still no sound.
You should have SPC_animation_final.mp3 in the system/customize/resources folder, and nothing?
Nope, nothing. I have played the file just to make sure it has sound and it does. I also tried moving it to system/media as android_audio.mp3 as was suggessted in another thread with nothing. Now boot sound worked with the stock rom, aybe from flashing it, it changed the audio setting maybe? I'm gonna try and change that real quick and see if it works.
Ok so I'm not getting it, all sounds are completely up. The only thing I ca figure is maybe somewhere in the rom it has been blocked/disabled for sounds at bootup. That's the only thing I can think of.
Hello all, could somebody tell me what I need to do to make the stock ROM use bootanimation.zip instead of start.mp4.
Thanks

With your file manager have a look at following directory "root/system/media/.." which must normally contain both files.
Rename start.mp4 in something like start.xxx (the system will not recognize the extension xxx).
At the next boot the system will use bootanimation.zip.
You may also move start.mp4 to one of your personal folders or delete it after having made a save copy..
Friendly.
Is it really as easy as that?. Does the stock ROM recognise bootanimation.zip ?

What do You mind by "not working".
In order to change the bootanimation on your P2, this one must be rooted.
Is that the case ?
If "NOT", You must first root your P2 according instructions which are to be found on this XDA forum or another forum.
If "YES" , You are able to act as I said in my post #2.
I'm personally using Solid file manager explorer and it gives me access to the root directory.
I used this app on my rooted P2 to suppress the 3 files of the original boot and install a bootanimation.zip of my choice.

Not working on rooted phne
Latest April update and I have magisk 16.3 with 5.64 manager version. Everything works fine, but now i've hit a snag.
I wanted to change the boot animation, I changed the file /media/bootanimation.zip and set permissions 644 (rw-r-r) using 1)solid explorer 2)root explorer 3)adb shell (using mount-wo remount rootfs / to make the /media partition writable. multiple reboots of course. the files I set are "sticking" after reboot.
It's still showing stock animation.
I found an app that would change it though: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=website.olivermillers.customboot2
I don't know what file it changed but it made a backup of my stock animation, and it was my stock animation (not the one that I had set for /media/bootanimation.zip). I tried to restore the stock animation manually, as described above, but now it just shows the boot animation set by that app, and I can't change it.
Questions:
1. What am I doing wrong and what did that app do correctly, that it was able to change the boot animation?
and/or
2. Is there a substratum module with a black pixel 2 animation? That's all I really want and I can change animations with magisk easily and reliably. Just can't find the one I need.
I did it using the root browser app and the bootanimation changed.. it's system/media I think

There are one or more Magisk Modules that will make it appear for all intents and purposes that you've overwritten or changed a file. It will do what you need. Because root is systemless, you can't (and shouldn't want to) actually change or delete any system files for real. I don't know the name(s) of the Magisk Modules that will do that, as I haven't had a need, but many users in this section have suggested others use such modules to do something similar to what you want to do.
running "settings list global" on adb shell gave me this location "lock_sound=/product/media/audio/ui/Lock.ogg" I was gonna check on root explorer but forgot im not rooted right now but hopefully that is it.
I just am trying to change the sound when locking the phone.

you have to create a magisk module yourself and replace the file, with the one you want.
google around for a template of a simple magisk module, recreate the directory inside the magisk module where the file you want to replace sits on the phone (system/product/media/audio/ui), drop the new sound file there, zip the magisk module template and flash via magisk manager and do a reboot.
dynamic partitions donĀ“t allow for r/w mounting. replacing the file systemlessly via magisk during bootup is the only way.
