Frp G891a - Samsung Galaxy S7 Active Questions & Answers

First apologies if this has been over before, coulndt find it in any forum...plus tried every way I could find in internet.
Phone...
Samsung Galaxy S7 Active
Model SM-G891 US...rev 0.5
Carrier At and T
6.0.1/MMB29/G891AUCU2APK2
You all know how the story goes bought phone dint have login info so stuck in frp. With all the reading and struugling I have at least managed to get a browser open. But no keyboard input when it is. I did manage to get to root junkies files but can't download because of the stripped down browser. Blocks all attempts at web search. Sense this update was November does that mean in screwed? Any help would be appreciated. Oh, no access to PC...makes this much harder I bet.
I want to believe that sense I can at least get to net there's gotta be hope.

1st.... just 5 posts under this, some one has alreay posted how to do this ..
you WILL need a PC to complete it... which ever way you choose.... theres a reason FRP is not 'easy' to get past !
either the adb method i explianed via PM (flash engboot, via odin, and then use FRP_S7FanClub.com adb method via ADB)
or the thread that i linked abbove, thats 5 threads down from this one at present when you psted ! so you clearly did not "coulndt find it in any forum" youve not even looked in this forum let alone others !

Well clearly the post 5 post down was edited by a mod saying the method didn't work. I have no computer at the moment and all the posts I searched were about trying with out a PC. I also have a different version so I thought starting a thread could help me and others. Thanks for taking the time to respond but please dont tell me I didn't search. I have been on the net for a long time and know how to search. Sometimes using this cheap ass phone makes it a bit more difficult. I also dont see the harm in starting this thread, it is after all why this sites here is it not? But I do appreciate the help.

Yes I closed it as it did not work tested myself I did find a easy way to do it..... BTW the info is not on the web activity for this device took me several hours to find and come up with a working method pasted together from several...

Oops sorry, my bad, didnt see that it was now a closed thread ..
Well the engboot and adb commands I found from s7fans.com seems to have sorted mine out
Although when issuing the adb commands it looked like they errored out !...
But either way, mines now past the frp warning...
What was your method ?...

[Q] Rooting Problems - PLEASE help. Gracias!

I am having so many problems trying to root. Im going crazy.
Quick info - I'm running 1.47.651.1 and have hoot .79, not .76
I've read all the threads here, and over at the androidforums, in regards to rooting. I've tried the ota simpleroot method, toasts method, etc. I've followed step for step w/ YouTube videos, etc. NO LUCK.
Currently I've just got a basic root, with unrEVOked3, with the clockwork mod. I only.used unrEvOked for a partial root, because every method has failed me so far. I'm a wreck! I've done one nandroid backup, after installing unrEvOked. I know that I need NAND support unlocked in order to flash custom roms, such as cm6. This is what I am trying to accomplish now. As ive said, I've tried several methods, and have done all the reading my brain can handle. All my drivers are up to date, including my adb drivers. I've got the Android sdk installed as well.
Simpleroot seems to work up until step #4, but then after rebooting, & going into the hboot screen - where it should load the pc36img file, & I should see the blue progress bar along the right side. Unfortunately, this never happens. Instead, it says the image cant be found, & displays that in green text, then just takes me back to the hboot menu. Yes, I am in charge mode. Yes, usb debugging is on. -- what's this I read about being in HTC sync mode? Is that crucial for performing step 4? i havent read this anywhere else, so im just curious. Trying to explain my situation/scenario as best I can, bc I'm really frustrated trying to root my new evo. I do have the HTC sync installed, FYI.
I know unrEvOked worked successfully, & I've at least got a partial root, since i can wifi tether no problem. I just need too unlock the nand. I end up going in circles reading the forum posts related to my issue, as they all say use simpleroot ota to gain nand access, or part 2 of toasts method. I've tried, trust me. I wouldn't be posting here if I wasn't rly stuck.
Please, someone help! I would be forever grateful if you can get me full root and gain nand access.
Everyone else is doing it, i just want to join in!
Thanks.
If there's any other information I can provide, i would be more than happy to assist. I've seen others with my same problem as well, but haven't found a solid fix yet. So thanks again on behalf of them as well!

Stop being a rent-a-mod.
Have you installed .net framework 4.0, htc sync, and disabled virus scanners on the machine you are using?
There were no error messages you overlooked on step 3 of simpleroot?
Does step 4 bring you to recovery by itself or does it sit there hanging and you manually do it yourself?
Use this method it only requires ADB and the 2nd part of Toast
Utilize the thread mentioned below. I am a new user for posting and can't do links yet but it has method in which you utilize shell commands via adb.

Thanks for your honest help. Sorry this isn't in the q&a like the above user suggested. This seemed to be the place where I would receive the most help.
Yes, I've got framework 4.0 installed, and HTC sync. All virus protection is disabled.
There were no error messages on any of the steps. I've followed it multiple times, very carefully. Even step for step with YouTube videos.
Step 4 does not bring me to recovery. Sometimes it reboots, then reboot again into hboot, but doesn't load the pc36img as it should. Just brings me back to the menu. Other times on step 4, it will reboot, but then won't reboot again into the hboot.
Hope I've answered your question.
Thanks again to all, for the help.

Sorry meant hboot, not recovery.
I haven't seen anyone post this issue before.
Youtube videos? I thought it had you go to a flash game. What thread/guide are you following?
Try this guide

edit: nevermind, you have to be already nand unlocked for it to work.

+1 I came into development on Saturday and there were 8-10 questions/comments at one point. I mean really with the attitudes of people what's the point of having a Q&A section... really? And to top that there seems to be this underlying assumption that if you post a question in dev that you'll get more(?), better(?) help. *shrug* Honestly, people can call me rent-a-mod, or that annoying guy who jumps on people if they post a question in Dev, I don't really care.... I get annoyed when I specifically come to a subforum (Dev in this case) expecting to see a particular subject and instead I find myself double checking to make sure I haven't clicked Q&A by mistake.

I can understand it being annoying, I am in no way saying it is acceptable. I am simply referring to the attitude people have taken toward the noobs of xda. It is not necessary.
Your statement quoted above is bull****. 9/10 threads in this section ALWAYS contain things like [ROM], [KERNAL], [METHOD], [HOW-TO], [PROGRAM] OR [TUTORIAL].
Honestly, you are trying to say that you come into this section after knowingly clicking on it, get confused as to where you are and it upsets you so much that you have to be a **** and tarnish the reputation of these forums to new users?

Next time I will take a screenshot since Toast moved all of the threads now. And, NO, I knew I was in dev, I was being sarcastic and trying to make a point.
Also, I used no profanity in any of my posts, although I was direct, and simply stated what I felt. I do not feel that any of my posts degrade or tarnish anyones name. Truth be told my very first post in XDA was in dev asking a question, and someone posted "wrong forum" or whatever.... and it was a learning moment. I didn't feel degraded or tarnished. I guess these days there are a lot of sensitive people on XDA. read: everyone should mind their p's and q's. *shrug*

Hey,
I'm pretty new here but I used Simpleroot for my first root as well. Sounds like if it is not loading the PC36IMG file it's either named incorrectly or it's not on the SD card. Can you verify that you have a file PC36IMG.zip in the root of your SD card?

Yes, I've got the pc36img.zip on my SD card, and it is named correctly. I've even tried formatting my card.
As to the 'argument' that's going on within this thread, its pointless. SORRY I didn't post in the correct place. Not like I'm the first. No need to bicker back & forth about it, that's just childish.
All I'm looking to do is fully root my phone. ive ran into some problems. so I came here hoping for a solution.
I've still had no success.
Thanks again to those who are willing to contribute, and help me solve this issue. I appreciate your time.

The issues continue......

Hey,
Made a few posts relating to my issues with the galaxy nexus and it not charging etc....
Now I have contacted Samsung and they said send it for repair, not this leaves me in a bit of a pickle seeing as the phone has been rooted since day one.
The issue comes as the phone does not respond to being plugged into the computer despite all drivers being installed.
Has any bright person got any idea's to removing the root on the handset and re-flashing stock .img without the need of adb and fastboot seeing as the phone just comes up as not recognised, probably due to the issues with the USB port on the handset (see initial problem...)
Don't really want to send it back to Samsung rooted as they will just send it back saying its my fault even though its not and its a hardware issue.... not software.
Any advice would be great,
J
P.s. Had a check around the internet on several Google groups about this issue and the only conclusion is send back to Samsung or get a new USB port for the phone from Ebay.
Just flash a stock ROM in recovery then use this app to lock bootloader http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=27878074 and then unroot (SuperSU has this option).
You are my friend is why i love XDA , thanks for the advice.

See this post for a much better explanation
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/19864-vz...ockrootflash-romsfaq/page__st__40#entry759280
Essentially that tells you to lock bootloader and then use mobile odin to flash a stock ROM.

Upgrading to stock JB on Mac OSx

Got an Australian Gnex running 4.04. The OTS jellybean update is months away according to Vodafone AU so ive been looking into manual solution that causes the least disruption possible. Very tough diciphering the language on here. My apologies but there doesnt seem to be a specific thread that can help.
From what i have read - I can open the Bootloader and somehow flash the factory image without rooting?
Was on the dev page at google to get the latest firmware? - ive DL'd yakju Android 4.1.1 (JRO03C)
I have already unlocked the bootloader with a toolkit for mac found here on XDA. i just dont know what to do next? The file is a .tgz which ive never heard of? dont you normally copy the whole zip file to the SD card then boot into recovery and somehow flash the new firmware? Help.

Yes. i dont know how use commands and directories. The thread is not clear for mac users.
The 'NEW!Install Stock Jelly Bean / Unroot to Stock Jelly Bean [Odin for Mac] ONLY GSM!' one click method didnt work.
Such a shame this has to be so complicated. Im stuck and now just have a wiped phone still on 4.04 and i cant ask any pertinent questions in the appropriate threads because im a new member.

It is not complicated at all. If you don't know how to open a terminal window and type in commands, it has nothing to do with android or flashing. It has to do with knowing how to use your computer.
I already replied to you in the other thread: to switch directories in a terminal, you use the cd command, i.e., cd /this/is/where/my/files/are
Lack of knowledge on how to use your Mac should not be confused with anything Android... not related at all.

I genuinely appreciate the help, but realise that 95% of computer users will never open a terminal and type a command. Ive typed your commands in terminal but its not working and i dont understand directories. If i dont ask questions ill never learn will i? I cant see your reply anywhere??

Asking questions if you don't understand is perfectly fine... and I'm willing to help. But complaining that a procedure is complicated and lengthy when it actually is not, is not cool.
As for your issue (although I've never used MacOS): if you save the files in a directory call junk, and junk is located in myname, the the command to reach junk would be something like: cd /myname/junk. Or, find a way to open a terminal in the junk directory to begin with -- I'm sure if you search any Mac help site (with something like how to open a terminal) you can easily find that out, no?

The fact ive sat here for more than 4 hours reading through threads, searching forums, reading tech sites, asking friends, unlocking the bootloader, downloading firmware, trying desperately to make 'terminal' work with your method, and leaving posting in this forum as the last resort - is testmanet to how complicated this is to a new user - especially one on a mac system. Ive used one click root methods previously when i had access to windows - unfortunately i dont anymore. I think the guides are easy to follow as a PC user, not necessarily for a mac. Ive tried to use terminal to locate the files, i cant do it. dont understand the basic principals involved to understand the mistakes im making.

I think you are making it more complicated that it really is. When you open a terminal, in which directory does it open? In other words, what is the prompt that you see? THAT is the directory that you should download and extract all the files to.
That's the problem you need to fix. Read some basics about macosx. Get comfortable using it. Then proceed with flashing your gnex.
This looks like a good tutorial:

Another issue you are having is that you are trying too many different methods, and confusing them. There was no need to root if you are flashing a new rom.

Okay, so now there is no way i can do this because im rooted? ...im a frustrated, technically struggling user that just wants to try and get jelly bean stock image - nothing more extravagant than that. ive tried to follow every instruction to the letter.....aside from having to learn terminal language for OSx, im doing my best. come on dude, not everyone has that kind of time

You can still flash the stock jb as per my instructions. It's just that rooting made no difference - it was a wasted step.
And as I said before, you don't have to learn the commands, as I've written them out for you. You just need to find out how to save the files and open a terminal in the same folder, which doesn't seem like a difficult thing to do. Google should be able to tell you how to open a terminal in a specific folder. Or, as I mention before, save the files in the folder which you already have your terminal open.
The whole purpose of my guide was to learn -- and you are have a more difficult time than others because you have taken shortcuts (I.e. 1-click methods) in the past.
I agree, not everyone has that kind of time: I have 3 kids (with everything that comes along with that), work a high-stress, 70 hour a week job, and no IT/tech/linux/android background, but I managed.

I didnt find how to move the terminal command subject and i did try many different pages via google and many different ways of phrasing the query. So i just dumped all the files onto the desktop as that was where terminal seemed to be referringand it seems to be working. im waiting for the final reboot - its taking a long time. :fingers-crossed:

I think you got it! The first boot will take significantly longer than usually.

How do I root this thing (Arc S)

Yea sorry, I know there are tons of threads on rooting this stupid thing but I've been trying out so many different ways today and failed that I'm sick of and tired of this stupid piece of crap.
This is my brother's phone, and it's run out of internal memory (seriously 300 mb?), anyway he has like 10 apps installed on the internal memory, these plus all the updates have filled it up. So now I'm trying to root it so I can swap the SD cards (already got him a 32 gig microSD for that).
And oh boy am I sick of this thing, so far I've tried multiple options and none work, and some are too complicated with poor instructions for me to figure out.
Rooting my Galaxy W was so easy and this thing here just makes me hate everything.
Stuff I've tried:
Sony Xperia Flasher
ERoot
Flash tool
bootloader
I'm at the end of my wits here, completely frustrated and yea, if this where my phone I would have already smashed it with a hammer.
I really don't have time for this sh*t since I have to study for a big test, so I would appreciate something super simple and fast, like with the Galaxy W.
Again, sorry for sounding like a **** and creating yet another thread, but I'm desperate.
Thanks for any help.
dial *#*#7378423#*#* on your phone then go to service info then to configuration & at the bottom what does it say regarding your bootloader ?

& i used this video to unlock bootloader:

if you need help send me PM & i will reply back in this thread. take care
If you want you can unlock the bootloader (loosing your warranty, of course), and then install a newer version of android up to 4.2.2, which is much more smoother than 2.3.4 and has much more features...
Madness, if you can't figure it out you're either not reading enough or just being lazy. There's about 4 or 5 links in my guide with how to root, add to that the amount of other threads there is, starting a new one means your lazy, because you've read nothing whilst signing up and just want to be spoon fed. Luck for you, there's some willing to do it.

you can root using doomlord root script.
I have rooted several times after flashing few roms and the script works great.
Hope this helps..

Had you taken a look at my join date and post count you may have noticed how I did not sign up to be spoon fed to root this device. And had you read my post you may have noticed how I stated that I've already rooted the Galaxy W, which is my phone, which was also real easy and straight forward.
I signed up to be able to hit the thanks button for Sir Arco's CM10 ROM, and give feedback should I notice bugs or other problems with it.
All I wanted was to root it without flashing a new ROM, since all my brother wants is more space on his phone, I don't think he'll want to check the forums constantly to check if there's a new version of a ROM out so he can flash it, so unlocking the bootloader and flashing a new ROM would be pretty pointless.
you can try to use the doomlord process, but you will always install a new rom, in that case will upgrade de phone to 4.0.3 and then you will be able to root the phone with de .bat file inside :good:

But you still clearly hadn't read anything whilst signing up, otherwise you wouldn't have started a new thread on something as common as "how do I root". I assume you will have managed it by now?

I did, which is why I apologized for posting another thread like it, there where also no I do I root this in this forum, since apparently I'm the only one who had trouble with the options that are posted in the guide threads.
And no, the doom script did not work, it did say it was successful but the phone remained unrooted. So after a couple more tries (and rectifying the "drivers out of date" error message) I unlocked the bootloader, tried again a couple of times still to no effect. So I want ahead and flashed a new ROM and Kernel. At first my brother wasn't too happy about that but he's starting to like the new ROM.
Man, it was easier flashing android onto the bloody HP Touchpad than this phone.

[Q] Root SPH-L700

I'm looking for the best noob friendly way to root my sprint sph-l700 Nexus running stock JB 4.2.1 . I delayed posting this and have searched to no avail on it . I've watched qbkings vid from last year but that seems antiquated, then have also seen a few internet post about a way called casual . I have rooted 2 phones in my life , last week , both were sph-d710s and were quite easy . Can anyone point me to the latest , noob friendliest way to root my phone running jellybean 4.2.1 ? thanks . I wouldn't mind finding one that installed suuser and allowed for custom roms when I get up the nerve to try that .
There are stickies in the Q&A forums. Or in this forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=26328017. The basic method never changes, even when Android updates.

QBkings method is to download the sdk tools and theres several parts to it , done in the early part of 2012 . Then I see a few articles around the web offering sort of a one click method but specifying that I need old versions of android . I believe you about methods but what about updated files ? Just go ahead and use the older files ? If I download that casual tool for 4.02 that will work just fine ?

if you are relying on 1 click tools, you have no business rooting your phone. if you dont understand the basics, you have no idea how to fix everything if something breaks/you do something wrong.

Why don't you let me worry about that and spit a straight answer out which is all I asked for . I paid for the phone and if I break it that is my business . I have yet to get one straight answer for one simple question . How many people have rooted their phones with a one click method ??? You have no business answering this post unless you can answer the question .That's the problem with threads like this . You ask a question and you get ran around the world with cryptic answers instead of one simple answer like " this will do it " . Why not just answer the dang question ? Btw , yes the method has changed . The qbking method/video was back when the phone first came out and there are simpler methods which are one click methods with info related to older android versions so while . I don't want to use that method which is why I came here to start with to get a couple of simple questions answered . There are multiple methods . You have yet to contribute anything to this post related to my inquiry . I rooted the other 2 phones with one click and nothing broke .

I thought you mean rooting in general. If you're looking for one-click tools specifically, I have no idea; I have never used one. You might want to specify that in your OP and title.

no the problem is people like you who are too lazy to do:
1) search, this question has been asked a billion times
2) read
The method has not change. period.
you fastboot oem unlock the phone
then you fastboot flash recovery cwmrecovery.img
then you adb push the su.zip over
then you flash the zip.
The above steps have been mentioned so many times its not funny.
since you have no idea what you are doing without a 1 click, you would then post here again with something along the lines of "OMG MY PHONE IS BRICKED HALP!" and at that point, i wouldnt give you the time of day because 1) you posted this retarded thread asking for something that could have been found in search 2) you used a 1 click.

Actually the problem is people like you that makes a thread longer than it needs to be . I came here to ask a question . You proceed to beat around the bush basically saying nothing then telling me what my business is , I've read your method you pasted about 20 times . You didn't answer nuttin for me I didn't already know and read already . heres where I went to another popular forum , asked the same question , got one answer about 10 minutes later and its was right on . Nobody asking me why I wanna do it , telling me its not my business doing it and giving me off the wall answers . yeah , you sure been the problem in this thread and still don't understand the original question yet . LMAO , heres a good answer . Now if I bricked my phone I can assure you I wouldn't ask you for anything . I'm not lazy but phones aren't my life . I just want to root mine .
If you're using Windows, using Wugs Nexus Toolkit will automate most of the procedure. Download and install the program. Once you run it for the first time, select your device and OS version. First you'll need to configure your adb and fastboot drivers. It will walk you through doing this. Next you'll have to unlock the bootloader if it's still locked. Once again it will do most of the work and walk you through doing any things you have to do yourself. Finally is root the device. Same thing, it will do a lot of the really techincal stuff and walk you through the manual stuff after that, reboot your device and you're rooted.

Actually I'm sorry if I offended ya'll . They can close this thread cause i'm not coming back to it and when the next new user comes along looking for an answer this thread would only serve to confuse him . Forums stay neat by people asking specific questions and getting specific answers . What should have been simple turned into something it shouldn't have .

Er, I don't think you realize that you're replying to two different people; I tried to be helpful right at the beginning, before you specified that you wanted a toolkit specifically, but it seems you'd rather be rude now.
Also, my point was that you should mention details specifically in your OP and thread title, not just throughout your posts in the thread; otherwise, people would need to read the entire thread before figuring out what help it is you need, making them less likely to help.
Finally, you can hit the little triangular report button in the upper right to ask the mods to delete a thread. Mods can't be expected to read every post. And forums stay neat by having people read the stickies and not post oft-asked questions.
You are correct and I apologize to you . I in no way meant that to you . Your right about the rest of it too . Sorry for my error . As a note the wugfresh worked great and simplified the process very well .
