Trying to find a reasonable way to show that Rooting is worth to her.
Any ideas of how to?
And anyone have any issues after rooting?
Tell her it's on sale.
No problems rooting, but there are some who are blaming rooted kernels for sporadic loss of service, while others aren't experiencing that at all.

THANKS sent your way for that line alone.
I forget how I talked my girl into letting me root her Evo. I think it was for Apps2SD and to open up more space for apps, obviously, that is no longer an issue. Unfortunately, she won't give up Sense. I had her try out cyanogen for a day and she made me flash her back to FreshROM.
It's funny though, I really couldn't find a true NEED to root this phone. It's pretty damn good stock. But that lasted about 10 minutes after root was achieved. Hate that bloatware!
If she don't need out don't do it. I rooted my dads evo bc he travels a lot and wanted wifi tether to his laptop. I didn't root my moms photon or sisters evo bc they don't really need
it.

you can't take it back to the store for warranty service if they know it's rooted.. at least most of the stores.

Sammy allowed you to uninstall the bloatware without rooting, I have already removed the sprint crap from my device.

Some...but not ALL of it. The rest needs root to be removed.

Some apps are so useful, they are almost necessary.
Roam Control - allows you to roam in an area with weak sprint signal - so weak that it's either constantly switching between 3g and 1x (huge battery drain), or even weaker, when it switches between sprint and a roaming carrier (dropped phone calls plus battery drain.)
By forcing a Roam Only mode, with a push of a button, you start roaming, usually with a strong signal from the other carrier and there's neither battery drain nor dropped calls.

No, Sammy allowed us to remove about 15% of the crapware. With root, I can remove the other 85%.

My wife has had 2 rooted phones now, the first was the hero which got rooted and flashed (cyanogenmod) to gain performance (its a dog with the stock ROM) and get the latest version of android.
She recently upgraded to the Evo and the only way she would let me root her phone and go back to cyanogenmod was if i could replicate the sense calendar widget which she loved (full month view). I ended up finding an app called calwidet from egg n stone which shows an agenda style widget but clicking on it takes you straight to google calendar with the familiar month view she was used to. So far so good.
I have my wife's phone running a stock rom that's rooted only. For her it's just about running apps that either require or work better with superuser permission... like widgetlocker, adfree, etc. It's also useful for removing alot of the crap that comes preinstalled.
I like keeping her phone stock and stable. It's not like she has a crappy phone that I need to hack to make it work right...
The last phone I had was a Galaxy S2 and rooting and installing a new ROM was quite simple. They even had directions+tools to revert back to stock... What's the deal now?
What is dm-verity and how do I figure out if the ROM I want to install has it.. disabled? enabled?
I have no more warranty so I'm not worried about triggering knox.
This latest update has basically fried my battery... the battery discharges in about 3-4 hours using youtube red with airplane mode enabled, and the battery is also quite warm (at least 100 degrees F!)
I just want to be able to disable/enable services I want.
I'm on SM-G925T on 6.0.1/G925TUVS4EPH2, specifically. How do I find compatible ROMs and roots? I don't want to brick anything.
I understand this is a long shot since I see so many other posts with no replies but, I'm kind of desperate. I'm actually worried my phone might explode because of how warm it gets now.
I just got the phone about two days ago, did all the 8000 updates via OTA (phone came with 5.0.2) and landed on the 6.01 EPH2 that you're on and my battery life has been absolutely horrible as well. I'm thinking about returning the phone over it. Idk what to do.

Thus device has been horrile for me too...
I have been trying to find folks who could actually communicate and help a little too..
Had a galaxy 3 in 2010 and a s4 in 2014, both were easy... bootloop, flash again.. not much risks..
Here we cant even remove the batteries and a lot of rhinfs that can make it stuck....
I do have root and twrp recovery btw..
If you want help getting those, just install telegram and search for user DSN .
I can help faster there and also link up to a few rom threads where people are quite active incase for help
I've been modding and ROMing for what seems like almost 10 years, the ROM development on this phone is horrible, I blame Samsung for this, too many variants, had the S6 on 4 networks and S6 edge on 4 networks, Hopefully Google makes a really nice new phone or I'm going to the other side.
I guess it's starting to make more sense now. Samsung obviously tried to squash custom build efforts by releasing so many different variants. It's a bit reassuring that people are having the same problems as I am...
To the person who just got the phone - RETURN IT!
Ironically, after I did a lot of browsing on this site during my morning commute, the phone started behaving better. It's still slow (not in my OP but it's definitely freezing whereas this wasn't an issue before) but the battery life is back to normal-ish levels and it hasn't warmed up on me. Maybe just keep browsing this site? LOL
Thanks, Samsung... I used to love the Galaxy line but this is some real Apple-esque **** (y'know, the whole updating the phone before the next generation gets released and having it run slow as **** thing.) Just Google the issue and there's lots of claims. I remember reading a reddit post where an Apple employee or cell phone repair store employee was saying that he'd have an influx of customers just before a new phone release.
It's all speculation but I wouldn't be surprised. They (Samsung) just did it after S7 got released. Too bad I'm stuck paying $30/month for this phone for the next two years. Never should have updated! It was perfect before all this.
That was me. Return it for what though? There's not much else in the price range that I was able to put down for a down payment that tmobile offers.....I put 276 down and the phone cost 499 total. The G5 is also 499 but I see nothing but complaints about it.......the S7 and S7 Edge they wanted close to 450 down and I just couldn't afford that so I went with the S6 Edge. What else is there?

Look into the LG G4, maybe. Same era as the S6 but it's got a removable battery and external storage and I think it's easier to install custom software and root, but hopefully you won't need to if it runs well. Do your own research, yknow! Don't blindly follow anyone's advice, obviously. Let me know what you decide.
I am working on getting rid of the bloat on my device.
I have a AT&T SAMSUNG GALAXY NOTE 5. Android version 7.0. Really lost battery life with the updated version of Android. And I am certain I can weed out the issues with a little help.
Can anyone direct me to treads about using PDP?
I KILLED FACEBOOK right off the bat. Now I am working on getting rid of AT&T. I need some stuff of course. And PDP does a pretty good job of letting you know what packages do. But some I need more information about specific pakages. For instance AT&T Hotspots?
Any guidance is greatly appreciated.
And yes I found some with Google search. That's how I got here. Really cannot afford a bunch of time right now. Job searching is my priority. And I will never get back the time I have spent on computers.
May God Bless.
I have used Package Disabler on both the Note4 and Note5, most recently on Note5 Marshmallow and now Nougat. It got a few updates over the last few months and I don't know if that was that cause but my battery life seemed yo get worse. I uninstalled it and disabled what I could of the AT&T and Samsung crap, and now it seems to run better and definitely gets better battery life. I'm up to 5 hour screen time without having to charge during the day.
If you do decide to use it, be careful what you disable, though. I think anything AT&T can be disabled without a problem. There are plenty of lists out there that tell you what you can and can't disable. Good luck!
so I might trade my psvr for a g5 battery and cradle
guy got a v20 on release day so the g5 hasn't even been turned on since so whatever firm it was on then is what its got.
so im assuming its still on mm
what are my options on downgrade and rooting?
what are my options to sim unlock?
ive played the life outa my vr and am quite disappointed with what titles are out so I can come off it and not feel bad but is the sprint g5 worth getting?
I figured id throw out a few questions before I jump into a bad deal
I just got one a week ago, coming from an HTC One M9. This is not a phone you want to get if rooting or custom ROMs are important to you, as the locked bootloader prevents that.
I've rooted my previous phones mainly to install a firewall and remove carrier-specific junk. However, non-root firewalls work just as well, and you can de-brand the phone by entering ##BRAND# in the dialer. This removes Sprint's apps and branding and leaves surprisingly little crap running in the background, but if you're the type that wants to remove anything and everything that you don't need, you won't be happy.
SIM unlock is quite easy, following the guide here. Everything works for me, including LTE.
Overall, I'm pretty happy with it.

If the battery hasn't been removed before, it's on there pretty tight. You separate the battery by twisting it off, basically, pulling from the inside edge towards the outside. There's at least one video on YouTube showing how to do it.

OK, if you installed the Hidden Menu APK from the SIM unlock guide, open it then go to SVC, then Factory Reset (R&D Only). Of course, this is going to completely wipe out the phone but it will definitely remove Sprint's apps at the same time. When the phone restarts and goes through the setup process you'll see a screen where it tries to configure the phone with Sprint. Press Volume Up and Down together at this screen to cancel that configuration so you can proceed with phone setup as normal.
Hope you have better luck...9 months in and bootloops. No gamer here just usual user with maybe just listening for YouTube red (screen of) at work for 4-5 hr a day.
Tried new battery, factory reset....updated...seems to do it when gets really hot...but it's done it when not feeling as hot. Even with just bare apps.

Ok, " there's a disturbance in the force" :silly: so I am new to the world of phone hacks, tips, tricks, and repairs. I am pretty good with PC's and Laptops but phones are a new venture. I currently own a Galaxy Note 4 from AT&T. It is mine I have full admin access to all features etc... It has never been rooted or switched roms. I had a note 4 about 2 years back and noticed the battery started dying very quickly. I thought it was just the batteries time to go. So I just upgraded and got rid of it. After feeling nostalgic, I got another one and sure as rain, it was draining fast. I bought another battery even bigger Mah. and still fast drain. My father who works for AT&T advised me that there was a patch or update secretly sent out by Samsung that causes this problem due to their exploding battery issue to avoid any more law suits. My father also informed me that if I brought my firmware back to KIT-KAT 4.4.2 and disabled ATT or Samsung updates that this will restore the batteries longevity. I need to know how to do this. I have looked on XDA for answers but I find only parts and they seem unclear or incomplete for what I am trying to do. Is there a way to do this? if so how? please understand I am no phone guru. but if the instructions are clear to follow I can most certainly get this done. I'd like to thank everyone who has read this, and special thanks in advance to the person able to provide the information I need.

Have you checked to see if there apps that are draining your batteries more than the others?
Also, since your father works for ATT, would there be a chance to ask for the bootloader unlock for the N910A? That way, we can use custom ROMs and kernels which might provide us with the solution for lengthening the battery life and improving the performance of our device!
Thank you for the reply. I got this bone stock. I have added no extra apps onto it. I have even removed and or shut off apps that I will not be using. I have also dimmed the display, etc... as far as unlocking the bootloader info. The only information he was able to pull up is the newest Droid version. He doesn't have access to anything else their systems for employees are basically hyperlinks for problem-solving network and simple issues. he is the one who directed me here. sorry, i couldn't help with that. Moreover, he has to be careful what he does. He is not supposed to help friends or family with any services or he gets terminated..!!! This is what I have gathered from scowering the internet. back all my files up EFS File most important. Then use odin to flash the 4.4.2 kit-kat firmware. then block all samsung or att updates. blocking the updates I do not know how to do. flashing the firmware I can do!!!
If your phone is running Android 5.1.1 or or newer, then I don't think it can be downgraded to KitKat. It would probably be better for you to just try to figure out what is draining your battery. Check the battery information in settings, or if you want more detail then get get GSAM Battery Monitor or Better Battery Stats in the Play store.
