The USB port on my Nvida Shild tablet busted (kids). A friend gave me a never used VK810 4G but for as nice as the tablet is for "free dollars" the stock room is very sluggish!
I was saddened to see a lack of rooms for this device, so I was wondering if anyone knows if I could use a compatible WiFi only rom? (don't care about the 4G) And if so whats the best model? Thanks!

I know that China has had CDMA for years and recently in the last few years CDMA 2000 so I am wondering if anyone can confirm this phone being able to work in China?
I know that 4G wont work, until they get a network up even if it is the one that HTC EVO can use is gonna be a miracle, but honestly 3G and 3.5G is enough for now.
I honestly cant see myself using any other phone then this and have already bought it so anyone that can confirm this can put my heart at ease.
I would really like an answer or opinion on this subject.
please and thanks
Hi All,
Ive been looking at the custom roms, now finally done it to my DHD after 7 months of owning it and its now Fantastic!
Just 1 thing that confuses me though, looking at the rom i have and other roms, they describe to have the 4G connection speeds? However the DHD is a 3G handset? Can this be correct? Is it just a software change? Or is it diown to hardware and cannot be true?
Thanks in advanced.
Dobby
Im not sure on this being a software change as the 4g part requires a beefy antenna. I am guessing that this is carrying the same hardware (less a couple of toys) for the US version of the handset 4g is plausible. However Being plucky Brits we do not have a 4g network yet,
The closest we get is HSDPA which is 3.5g (7mb download apparently).

Am i the only one using the Epic 4g outside the US? I use it in India. If there are other users from India, please reply to this thread so that we can share our experiences and help each other out.

Hi Billamin: I have an Epic 4G touch from Sprint in the US that I am planning to use in India. Can you please let me know what ROM should I flash it to for using on the reliance network in India?

If its your first time rooting the go for any stable rom.
I'm using this E4G in China. Programmed to China Telecom and 3G enabled. I think you have to make sure your carrier is CDMA, as E4G is only compatible with that (damn or I'll be enjoying "4G" from China Unicom)
Also, not to discourage you, but I don't think there's the file to program your E4G to India carriers should there be a suitable one... The user base might be TOO small
Anyway, just a heads-up that this phone is possible outta US. I'm currently switching between all kinds of ROMs and they all work well.

Anyone with a brain can program if you take the time, patience to learn, theoretically any company on CDMA can be used with the epic, the 2 fastest things that come nearly instantly from easy programming is talk and text, 3g and 1x are carrier dependent, with most being a breeze to get 1x, and 3g requiring a bit more leg work, but doable.

I've been doing some reserach and thinking that in the future when my phone breaks I'd like to get take a gamble and try one of those Chinese phones. I'd like to keep my Verizon's unlimited data plan with the 4G LTE. I was refered to this site and told to ask here about ROMs and Kernals to conver the phone's 4G frequency to 700mhz to match Verizons. I have yet to find many chinese phones that run on 4G and have found none that run on the 700mhz frequency. So my next plan is to reprogram the phone to run on the Verizon frequency.
Now I have the Droid Razr with 4G. It has a SIM but I was reading that the GSM was disabled so the phone just runs on the CDMA network. Correct me if it's wrong, but that's my understanding for the time being. Anyway I'm looking to reprogram a Chinese phone to someday replace my Droid Razr. If anyone can point me in the right direction of ROMs of kernals that would be fantastic, even some direction on the right devics would be fine too.
Thank you for your time.
Does anyone have any input on this? Is it even possible?
i dont think is possible because frequencies are hardware based
I was told I just needed a new kernal and ROM. I understand that the hardware is designed to run on a few different frequencies and that it just needed to be reprogramed. Can anyone confirm this?

I'm looking to do the same. I'm not due for an upgrade until next year and my Galaxy Nexus flash memory is failing. I only need something to carry me over until my renewal, and I'm not going to buy an S4 or something for $600 until then... a ~$200 knock-off with decent hardware would be fun to play with, easy to carry and can be handed down to a kid on a prepaid network later (or used simply as a wifi/media/GPS device). Only problem is that it's hard to tell what is supported and what is not.
Any insight from those more experienced would be appreciated.
I'm thinking seriously of getting a refurb'd LTE FIre HD with one big reason in mind: it's a cheap-per-month, contract-free, LTE-enabled AT&T hotspot with a very decent Android tablet built in.
Reverse logic? Yep. But that's why I have a VZW iPad instead of a Transformer Prime.
Anyway...
Has anyone successfully tethered the Fire, while using AT&T LTE, to another device, whether via WiFi or wired? I assume that WiFi would require rooting the device, and wired might as well (don't know if something like PdaNet/FoxFi would work out of the box).
I don't mind rooting/custom ROMs/etc. in order to get LTE tethering working (I have a custom ROM on my original Fire and odwngraded the baseband on my Nexus 4, to give you an idea). But I don't want to be the first one to test this out, only to find out that it's impossible.
So, can anyone clue me in on this?
