Sorry, all custom rom need an unlocked bootloader device to work. But you still can try older mod for 4.3

I just got my Arc S, and i want to check out few different custom roms. I was planing on rooting the device with Easy rooting toolkit, so the question is, how can i backup my stock rom and reflash it, if i ever need it for warranty issues? (Also maybe to get the official 4.0 update next year )
On my previous phone (HTC Desire) it was pretty easy, by restoring the Nandroid backup that i created after rooting the device. How about the Xperia? Is there something similar?
And while we are here, any suggestion for some stable custom roms for the Arc S? Thanks
If you only want to root your device, you can simply unroot the device.
But you don't really have to, when you update your device using PCC or SEUS, the root is gone.

If you decide to unlock your bootloader to flash custom kernels/ROMs, you have to relock it, when you want to update your firmware using PCC or SEUS.

And which custom ROM you like is your decision, but I'm still a CM7 fan.
I have root, if I want to return to stock ROM (without root) I can just use SEUS to update my phone and the root is gone?

If your bootloader is locked yes.
I rooted my arc with EasyRooting toolkit,
How do I know if my bootloader is locked or not?
Edit: I checked by the service info, it says
Rooting status:
Bootloader unlock allowed: No
I am guessing that means my bootloader is locked?

Yes, it is.
And if you root, it doesn't, mean you've a unlocked BL.
Btw, you can't unlock your BL using the official method.
If you still want to unlock your BL, contact Jinx13.
hi..
i wanted to root and then flash a costum rom on a xperia arc but im not getting root first...i used 2 methods for the locked bootloader the doomlord v1 and the Root_Exploit_OneClick both of these show me errors and the phone cant get root,i turned off every another process in the pc and the antivirus and still nothing...pls help me to root it...it is with locked bootloader..
Edit( i rooted it when i flashed a ready to root stock ics firmware and then with one click root method)
first of all you cant install a custom ROM with a locked bootloader... and the reason why your not getting a root is that your on .62 firmware and you can only root on .42 firmware... (NOTE: android version 2.3.4)

i have this version 4.1.b.0.431...what should i do to root with this firmware?
You have ICS https://www.google.com.au/#hl=en&sc...qf.,cf.osb&fp=c72d84806ae8a6&biw=1366&bih=667 that should help you
y the way there are 2 ways to root .431(4.0.4)
1) flash the .431 file and then flash the stock kernel of .562 ftf(i.e flash 4.0.4 and the flash only the kernel of 4.0.3) and then use doomlord one click method
2) flash a ready to root ftf file that already has the compiled things together.
(by the way, why dont you unlock your bootloader? because if anything goes extremely wrong it can only be corrected if you have an unlocked bootloader. and unlcoking bootloader is not risky infact it can be reocked again it will give you more choice to choose from various roms and kernels)
and note these methods work on unlocked bootloaders only.
these threads will help youon locked bootloader
for 4.0.3 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1600728
for 4.0.4 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1683189
you can root your phone using This method .

Custom kernel no you need unlocked bootloader for that. As for recovery have you tried the CWM for locked bootloaders?
Can I flash into a rooted phone SONY XPERIA S a custom official firmware?
Yes,but first you must install cwm and search Roms for locked bootloaders based on the firmware you like !
My phone has the red light on but is not charging.

My bootloader is unlocked and my phone is rooted
SOLVED
Device: Sony Xperia M Dual (C2004)
OS: Jelly Bean 4.3 (15.5.A.1.5)
Rooted, bootloader unlocking allowed but locked yet,I have the code.
So I want to install custom ROMs which need. Now to flash them I need TWRP.
To get TWRP I need to unlock my bootloader, right?
The thing is I don't have the bandwidth to download the stock ROM to flash after unlocking the bootloader as it is around 700 megabytes.
So what I want to ask is whether is it possible for me to unlock bootloader and flash recovery directly and then flash the custom ROM?
Also considering my bandwidth limitations, how should I unlock my bootloader?

Unlock your bootloader... Its not mandatory to install stock rom after unlocking bootloader... You can flash cwm or twrp using adb... Google it... Then directly flash custom rom
