There are 2 options to change it. Via quick setting or via regular sim settings.
See attached screenshots.

This is for the Verizon LTE version of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus.
I am tasked with writing a tiny app that will effectively disable/enable 4G capability. This can be done manually via settings > mobile network > network mode and choosing either LTE/CDMA (4g enabled) or CDMA (3g only).
I have not tried anything yet because Android development isn't my strong suit. I am looking for guidance... examples, code samples etc. I am assuming this should almost be a one-liner, but it has been my experience that with Android development nothing is as simple as it appears.
I am exploring ConnectivityManager and setNetworkPreference but I'm not sure this will do what I need.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
I don't know if this may help you at all or not...but there is an app called ANYCUT and u can make shortcuts of an activity..in example....instead of dialing *#*#4636#*#* for the phone info and for you to switch data from 4g to 3g....u can set up a shortcut with it also for network modes..instead of going to it .but I hope it helps in some way ....maybe not what you were looking for...but a toggle widget sure would be appreciated.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
having attempted the same thing, i think you'll find toggling the 3g/4g is not trivial since after 2.2 they removed the ability to modify phone state.
I created a widget to shortcut to the settings (similar to a few that are out there already) am just polishing a few preferences.

Ahhh, good to know. So in your opinion should I give up? I can go to my pm and explain that this is "essentially" not possible. Unless it *IS* "possible." What are your thoughts?
Not sure if this helps but Widgetsoid will already do this. Few of the widget functions do work (it's not fully supported on ICS) but it will toggle 4g or 3g on and off. The key is setting the Data Toggle option in its menus to 'Root Toggle'.

I believe that's to toggle between 3g/4g. The option to add it as a button to the widget is greyed out so that definitely doesn't work. However you can create a button that will toggle data off, whether you're using 3g or 4g.
A friend of mine created this widget a few days ago for me. The widget works for showing if lte is on or off. upon tapping the widget it takes you directly to the mobile network settings page effectively reducing the amount of time to toggle it.
he said the only way to make it actually work would be to have the app id be the same as the system id, it would have to be done via flashable zip and not just a simple apk.

I'm operating off memory because I don't have my phone in front of me...
Fist, make sure you installed widgetsoid2.x!! Also, he recommends a reboot after install. This may just be to get the widgets in your widget list. And of course, you must be rooted.
I dropped a widgetsoid widget to my homescreen and went into its configuration. The button you need to include is 'Enable/disable Data' (one arrow pointing up and one down). The other key is to choose 'Root Toggle' in global preferences. When you're done setting up your widget click apply.
That did it for me. Let me know if you're still having problems and I'll try and reply with my phone in front of me next time.

i wouldn't get too excited... turning data ON/OFF and toggling between 4G/3G are separate controls, i haven't tried the data toggle yet (to see if it's a real toggle), but the Widgetsoid 4g/3g "toggle" definitely only opens the settings menu. still, Widgetsoid is so awesome that i purchased the donate version.
Hello guys,
I just bought a mi mix 2, and 2 days it had no problem, but yesterday it had no signal and a restart did the trick. The second time, the restart+reset the phone didnt fix it, so i was helpless until the 9.6.1 global stable came after reset and it fixed the signal/call problem.
Another thing, in the first part of the problem i had no signal, after that i had signal but i couldnt make calls.
Do you think its a software problem or hardware? or it could have been a signal problem from the company i have the sim?
It sounds like your network settings might not be configured correctly. I would find the APN settings that your carrier recommends and see if they are the same that the phone is using. You might also want to contact your carrier and verify that your new phone shows up properly on their end.

This problem has occurred with some users when the network settings aren't set correctly. Mine defaults to gsm/td-scdma/lte instead of gsm/wcdma/lte. Use *#*#4636#*#* to double check whenever you reboot your phone.

It's not a question of better or worse. The setting you have is for China. Just change it on both sims and it should work.

Yes. You have to reset it after every reboot.
I just did a clean install of Android Pie earlier today on my 2XL, on Project Fi.
I've only setup the basics so far, using stock launcher and a few apps.
The location symbol will not go away. Is there a way to check and see what is using it?
I've disabled location all together and it goes away. Looked at the apps that have location permission, and toggled it off, but the icon stays.
Any ideas?

If the Location symbol is showing all the time and you can't find what is triggering it, you might have to save your pics and music, etc.,
then do a factory reset. I have installed Pie on several P2XL devices, and none have the Location symbol showing all the time. Must be
a battery hog if it's on all the time.

If you've done that already, would recommend unlock and critical unlock followed by Deuce's script with wipe Yes.

Something's not right and that script usually nails it.

It looks like the Project Fi icon is still up in your notifications. Have you finished setting it up to completion? I can't remember for sure but I think my location icon was up until I finished setting up Fi and the Fi icon was off the screen.
I am facing the same issue with project fi installed on my 2xl.
Heya everyone,
I am unable to change mobile network providers.
I try to disable "Automatically select network" to change my provider manually.
An error occurs:
Couldn't find networks. Try again.

When enabling the slider again, the following appears:
Already in automatic selection.
Click to collapse
(when I don't re-enable the slider, but rather back out of the menu and go in again, the slider is enabled by itself)
Has anyone ever run into the same problem or got an idea what could cause the problem?
Any help and ideas are very much appreciated.
Push? :crying:
Maybe it depends on the country and SIM card Provider? I have the same issue and cannot select Network Manually, would need to do so cause this SIM card is new and just roaming cause its US card used in Europe, how to force a command line Network scan? Moreover I had this issue in 15.1, too. N910V Verizon Note 4

Well, the updates on this may come a bit late, but with LOS17.1 (Android 10) I'm not able to reproduce this problem.
If you haven't already, I can greatly advice to upgrade!

Can anyone else edit WiFi advanced settings to change IP or proxy?
I am on the latest update (screenshot attached) while I was able to edit them when the software was at factory version.
I can't change it either.. btw have you rooted your phone?
Same here. Both proxy and trying to add a hidden wifi will crash the settings app. I notice that both of this has a drop down menu. Only when the drop down menu is sellected, the settings app will crash. Thats whats happening on my device. Btw im also on the latest update.
I assume you are talking about these settings while trying to connect a new wifi.
My a505g phone is still on the March update and my application is NOT crashing when I am trying to make the changes in the UI.
Please see attached. Seems like a bug for the new update.
I am able to get to advanced settings after april update
