I'm trying to add some new notification sounds to my pixel 2 XL and it just refuses to pick them up. I've placed the MP3s in DCIM/Media/Notifications and they just don't show up. Google search tells me to use a secondary file explorer to select them but I made the mistake a while back and told it to use the default one always and can't seem to figure out how to reverse that decision. Is there some trick? I've tried shutting down/restarting and no go. My custom ring tones showed up fine, but notifications.. nothing.

Can you be a little more specific? Under "Settings | Apps and Notitications" I do not see an app for setting sounds and "settings" itself has no defaults set. In fact it looks like only Phone and Photo's have values set. What exactly should I be resetting?

Search for the apps called "files" or maybe it is "settings storage"
Normally the extra tones are simply stored on the internal SDCard under
/Alarams
/Notifications
/Ringtones
with a root explorer the file path is
/storage/emulated/0/Alarams
/storage/emulated/0/Notifications
/storage/emulated/0/Ringtones

So the internet's suggestion to put them in DCIM/Media/Notifications was the issue. Moving them to just the notifications folder worked.
On a side note I still find the app to remove defaults from. I don't have any thing sound+settings related and Files has no defaults set. So for now problem fixed but wonder why it's not listed.

Using your root browser app. Navigate to: /system/media/audio/ringtones(pic). There you will see the native ringtones on your device. I also change the file extension on my specific ringtones to .ogg, reboot, and they should work. They do for me anyway :good:

I don't know exactly what you are referring to, but go into your app manager, click on the app, and then press clear defaults. This might work.

i cant find it there, i downloaded zedge, it asked htc notification, or zedges, and i clicked default for htc, now idk how to go back
There is no listing for zedge under manage apps? Most anything you download should appear there.

He's saying he set the default to HTC. That means he needs to find the HTC app responsible for notification and clear it. OP, you can try clearing defaults on all the HTC based apps, including one's that show up as com.* (where * is a wildcard) You could also try uninstalling Zedge and reinstalling. Or find another app that triggers a similar dialog and then set the default there.
hello guys, i did own a iphone but had so many problems so sold it and bought the htc one x while i love it and me being a first time android user i have a few questions please needing answered...ok here we go
1, the home screen wallpaper what size do i need to make one for just to have the middle home screen? so it will stay static across all homescreen's without scroll? what dimension's?
2, how do install ringtones, music , pictures as i'm on a macbook, can i just plug it into the usb to computer and drag and drop?
3, can i alter my default icons to different ones like the phone , sms icons etc...to custom ones i'm running stock everything as its brand new out the box yesterday and would like to keep it that way if possible...? is it possible?
4, how do i delete app's off the phone i no longer want?
5, i saw a app UCCW custom clock maker how can i install one's from here people have posted zip file for where do the files go? and can i use them running stock firmware etc out of the box?
1. 1280x720...someone please correct me if I'm wrong
2. I usually connect my phone and then open my phone's drive and extract my music files into the "dcim" folder. However you can also just use a program like windows media player or winamp or whatever else program and it should do the transferring part for you. Same with images, I put them in the dcim folder.
If you want to set a song or tune as your ring tone simply open your music app, touch and hold the song/tune you'd like to usw until an option menu extends. Option should be there, simply follow it
3. Yes, you can. However changing icons might only seem possible without rooting your phone if you use an external launcher. Try searching for "go launcher" in the play store. Or use "nova launcher".. note that you won't be able to use sense widgets on external launchers.

4. Open your app drawer, click and touch an app you would like to uninstall. The.background will turn to your home screen and the top right corner should be highlighted "uninstall". Simply drag your all over.
5. That is something someone else would have to answer, but they would be doing me a favor as well, haha! Good luck with your one x. Welcome on board
shadehh has replied most of your questions but I could add in .
4 . You can go to Setting > Apps and click on the apps you want to uninstall too . You can also download Easy Uninstaller from Play Store to have a more easy uninstalling experience .
5 . In android , we use a file type ".apk" to install stuff such as Window's ".exe" to install stuff and so on . So maybe the zip file of the app you mentioned consist the apk file in the zip and yes you can use them running stock firmware etc out of the box .
You can create a folder called "Ringtones" on the root directory of your sdcard and put whatever mp3 you want to use as your ringtone in it. This mp3 can then be selected from settings -> personalize -> sound -> ringtones.
The same goes for alarms and notifications. Just create folders called "Alarms" and "Notifications" on the root directory of your sdcard and they will be selectable in the personalization settings.

Hello,
I'm trying to add some of my ringtones to the G3, and can't get the phone to use them. As usual with previous phones, I just copy some mp3 in my Ringtones folder, but they don't appear in the ringtones settings. In the settings I can add a new ringtone, but it tries to get it from my library, and I don't want them in there as they're not actual songs.
Is there something I don't get? How do you guys use custom ringtones?
I could probably add them to my library, then add them as ringtones, then remove them from the library, but that seems tedious and I'm not even sure that would work.
(PS: I'm not rooted yet, I'll wait a few weeks to have a good feel about the stock rom before I go into serious tweaking)

I was surprised to see this issue as well--I'm not sure why LG would intentionally not allow additional ringtones (and notifications).
I'm rooted, and what I ended up doing was copying the ogg files into /system/media/audio/ringtones. Even then, the new ones took a while to show up in the ringtone list--I assume a media scan was needed.
I have noticed, however, that new notifications and ringtones downloaded through Zedge do appear in the list.
On my d850 I can add custom ringtones, I didn't even have to copy them into my ringtones folder. I hit add in sound>ringtone and it finds all media on my sdcard... Even mp4 videos

Actually you're right, the ringtones I had manually copies into the ringtone folder did eventually appear in the list. I guess as you said a media rescan was needed.

Hey,
I fixed this issue on my phone by going to Settings -> General (if you have "tab view" on) -> Apps -> All -> Media Storage and then clearing the data by clicking on the "Clear data" button. After that, I simply rebooted my phone and all of my ringtones and notification sounds appear in my apps (e.g. Hangouts, Google Play Music, Contacts, etc).
There are apps on Google Play that is suppose to do this for you; however, the first three that I tried force close on me so, I went this route.

Using this method erased the cache completely and left me initially with an empty list of sounds/ringtones/notifications so I was a bit startled, but the returned a few seconds after.
However, the only sounds I can get working are .ogg files, .mp3 do not show up in the lists.
Time to get rootin' I guess but haven't found a root-method yet as I've been so ignorant to install all LG OTA updates and now I'm at software version V20h-EUR-XX.
Actually, having said that, there is a "+" in the top right corner which does see the .mp3 files and enables me to select them.
Sweet. It's worked. Thanks
After installing the Facebook app on my Nexus 5X I've noticed that the list of notifications sounds available is quite limited. In particular, the Facebook 'pop' sound does not appear in the list, so it's using the system default notification. The same app on my OnePlus One has the 'pop' sound in the list.
On all the Lollipop phones I've used, Facebook adds the 'pop' sound to a notifications folder in internal storage but it doesn't appear to have done that under Marshmallow. Is this a permissions issue?
Thanks for any insight...

You can make any sound you want as a notification. Using a file explorer place the sound file in the notification folder on your sd card. Then go to the sound and notification settings menu from the settings menu and select your sound. You can do the same for ring tones but place the file in the ring tone folder
Thanks, I know I can do that - I'm wondering why Facebook doesn't install its own custom notification sounds on Marshmallow but does on Lollipop and earlier.
My facebook app was set to the default tone, but it is listed in the notification picker.
It is located in "media/audio/notifications/"
Perhaps a reinstall will fix it?

Unfortunately I'd already tried that. However, I had a look at the app permissions for Facebook and noticed that it wasn't allowed to do anything - all sliders were off. I checked what the permissions should be on my OnePlus One and set them the same on the Nexus 5X. After a reboot it created the media/audio/notifications directory and the 'pop' was in the picker.
I thought it was a bit unusual that it didn't ask for any permissions when I installed (and re-installed) the FB app...

The app won't ask for permission on install on marshmallow if it is optimized for that version. It will print when that permission is used (or on app startup depending on the app)

No idea why it's doing this, but every ringtone amd notification I set from the app Zedge is automatically reset to default when I restart my phone. It's only happening with the individuals I set it to. Any ideas?

I don't know if this will help you or not. If your rooted, change the file extension of the ringtone from .mp3 to .ogg then select what ringtone you want to use. Are you using a particular app to set ringtones other than zedge?

Why would they need to be rooted to change the file extension of a file that they downloaded?
As for the OP's problem, figure out where the ringtones are downloaded to, move them to a folder called Ringtones on the root of your accessible internal memory (if it's not there, create it) and move the ringtones to that folder. Then you can select them in your phone settings and/or the stock contacts app. Zedge is a great app for getting ringtones and wallpaper, but it's not so good when it comes to applying them. I don't think it has been updated for android oreo.
