Disable OTA completely on 7.1.1 - Moto Z Play Questions & Answers

Hi guys, this will be very simple for most of you, but for me it's difficult.
I want to disable completely the OTA updates of my device, currently I'm using Nougat 7.1.1 1st July security patch level and I really want to disable it because it doesn't stop appearing on my screen and consequently annoying me.
Thanks in advance!

just upgrade to newest soft, why you hesitate?

I'm rooted, so it would not allow me updating, so if I'm rooted why do they keep annoying me?

There is a file otacerts, zip in the /system/etc/security/. If you remove it (copy to safe place) you should stop receiving updates. I haven't tried by myself, so please make a backup of your rom first.
If you just want to get rid of notification popping up, just hold notification to get those two icons which lead you to app notification settings and there you can block notification.
For rest of the available options (disable Motorola update service), just google it

Why do I hv to upgrade? If it's not broken, why change/upgrade? Not everything that's newer is always better, at least for us users..

[Q] OTA file location

Forgot to disable OTA updates and my phone downloaded it and now I have this notification that doesn't go away. Looked around using ES file browser but I can't find the location out the OTA file so I can delete it.
Anyone know the location of the OTA?

I'm one of the dummies that half-asleep clicked on the OTA update and am now softbricked. In looking around the potential solution threads I saw that long pressing the notification should dismiss it. Just a warning, I haven't tried fixing my phone as of yet, so I'm not sure if this advice is right.

That sucks. Look for "I softbricked my T-Mobile G3" under the questions thread. I think there's 2 fixes in there if you haven't checked yet. Idk if they'll work for you but worth a try if haven't seen them yet.
I read an adb fix somewhere that supposedly came from the G2 forums that supposedly worked too.
Good luck!
I'm just going to wait to find the location to delete, don't want to try and ling click and some kind of earthquake or something happen and end up just single clicking it. Lol

Yeah I saw the adb fix for the G2 and was hoping to have someone confirm that it is fine for the G3 too. I don't see why it wouldn't be, but I don't want to dig myself into a deeper hole.
Hope you find your answer!

You can freeze Update Center from Titanium Backup and that notification will go away. Forever.

There are 3 tgings for you to freeze
Software Update
Update Center
App Updates
I had the same problem thats a solid fix and should be working on every occasion like that.
Long press on the notification to enter app info and from there turn off notifications
I just use "notification off" app > uncheck googleplayservices > to hide the annoying notification.
Hello, I have this weird thing after trying to update to V30c... I received OTA (~230mb), downloaded and pressed to install but nothing happens, it just reboots the phone without performing the upgrade. So what I did connected it to PC and updated via LG mobile tool don't know why but the size was (1.3GB) unfortunately after upgrading I still receive the notification which I don't need as I already upgraded via PC... Anyone knows how to solve this?
If you're rooted, you can use the 'disableService' app from playstore. Then System / Google Play Services / SystemUpdateService, uncheck it. Problem solved.

Only it doesn't solve the problem. Just froze it with TB, but the notice persists. D851 stock MM V30D rooted. Also have SystemUpdateService disabled via app disableService from playstore, which got rid of the OTA notices for OS versions, but won't disable this compatibility patch notification.
EDIT: Notification gone now, probably had to reboot for it to evaporate.
EDIT2: Came back a day or so later, so that method was a no-go for me. Didn't want to try the long press to see if it could be dismissed via option presented in response to that action

Stop LG/Tmobile system update?

I am running skydragon rom and unfortunately my phone downloaded an LG system update. I did not install it, but i do want to delete it and remove the reminder... Plus it's stopping me from installing some of the LG apps that have been removed...
How can this be accomplished. Thanks.
Wow.. Anybody.
I'm not sure on the location of the update, but for me, I just pulled down the notification panel, long pressed the Update notification, clicked on App Info, then unchecked notifications, clicked ok to confirm, then checked it back on.
That removed the persistent notification for the T-Mobile system update, hasn't shown up since in about 3 days time.
I tried that... It worked for a few hours then it came back.
You can always leave it unchecked, but I'm not sure what other apps use Play Services for their updates or other.
That's my worry. I think a lot of other apps use play services.

Apparently many people have said that you can disable the updates by getting into the hidden menu by typing this in the dialer: 3845#*851#
Click on WLAN Test
Go to OTA
Disable
Unfortunately this didn't work for me. I hope it works for you. I accidentally downloaded the LG update as well, but for some reason the update notification is still there. super annoying!

If your rooted, you can use a root explorer and delete the update.zip file in the /cache folder. That will take care of any auto update when you reboot your phone.
Since I'm running stock, I also froze the following apps with Titanium Backup:
App Updates 4.20.100
ConfigUpdater 4.4.2-940549
LGSetupWizard 4.3.020
Update Center 4.20.100
I get a notice once in a while when I go to wifi, but I noticed that the update is no longer downloaded to the /cache folder after freezing the apps above.

[Q] How do I stop the System Update notification from popping up

Hey guys, my S3 recently downloaded some system update to my phone that I don't want. I'm rooted and I don't want to lose root. I'm not interested in the system update either. How can I remove this notification from popping up constantly? It sometimes gives me an option to click "later" under the notification which sends it away, but a new notification for the system update immediately pops up again. Any help would be much appreciated!

I have the same issue. I have no idea what this system update is, or how to turn it off.
EDIT: I think this is the NJ2 update. Strangely enough, the upgrade notification remains even after I ran the upgrade. Maybe this threat can help: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2249350

What app is sending you these notifications? File Manager? App Manager?
Hold down on the notification until you see a bell and an i. Hit the i to get information.
There should be a box that says notifications on the app info... Uncheck that. Reboot the phone and see if it appears again (It shouldn't).

Hold down on the notification in your tray until you see a bell and an i enclosed in a circle. Hit the i to get app information.
Then uncheck the box for notifications from that app. Reboot and see if it pops up again.

If you're on Lollipop:
Hold down on the notification and get the info. Make sure it's unchecked (Could be a different app sending that one).
If it's already unchecked:
Go to your settings and find "Notification Manager". Enter this and hit "App notifications". Find the app that sent the above notification and tap on it. Now you can adjust it and set priorities and whatnot. For this, block notifications from it.
This may block notifications for system updates as well, but you can still check it manually. Plus, system updates don't happen very often so not seeing it won't really matter.
EDIT: Misunderstood what you meant... I underlined what to do in your case.
Edit 2: I'm running a custom ROM and that's how I would do it in my case. I failed to remember that the stock ROM may not have added these features, so you can also do this (for sure) but going to your settings and hitting apps, then scrolling over to all. Find the app manager (or whatever app uses the same icon as the one sending you the notifications) and click on it. Now you can uncheck the displaying of notifications from it.

Read that^^^
Also, unchecking notifications from "Google Service Framework" may remove notifications for these type of updates.
If you are rooted and already have SuperSU you can download Titanium backup and uninstall any app from your phone. BE CAREFUL BECAUSE SOME APPS ARE IMPORTANT. Also, make sure you backup the file before removing it via titanium (backup through titanium backup) in case you for some reason need it back. This may or may not remove the prompt to update the app, but way back when (if I remember correctly) it did for me.

Glad to hear it! If you ever have any more questions feel free to PM me.
Also, I would highly recommend you try out a free app called "LG Tweaks Box". It'll make your phone feel so much better and have tons of customization!
I'm not sure if this even/still applies but when I was on KitKat (LG G3 2GB) I rooted my device then used either Root Explorer or ES File Explorer File Manager and looked in the data\op folder on device and deleted anything I didn't want (mainly anything carrier related which was all of the H3G_COM folder (30 items) as it was a 3 UK handset) then reflashed firmware and wiped device and I have never had any apps forced on me since, i've even disabled auto restore of apps from Google Play on first sign in so I can be choose what I wanted installed at each reflash/wipe.
Back up the OP folder first as It is handy for later if ever needed
Again not sure if this even/still applies
Hope that helps
Thanks for the reply
But sorry to say that my Data/Op folder has no Carrier APPs
i have done a full search on phone an just cant find the junk
i still have a message saying i have 15 APPs to update even with APP update frozen with RootUninstaller

Try installing them then using titanium backup to remove them completely including all files.

How to disable update check?

I have the latest official 8.1 ROM and don't want to update to PIE yet.
But notification about this update is just like the ones from iPhone, keeps coming back and I see no way to turn it off.
I've disabled automatic update in developer settings, but would like to disable checking for update and notification about it also.
In my other phones there always was system app called "Update" or "System-update" and stopping/disabling it was enough to stop bothering me.
Is there any way to disable checking for update and notification about existing update?
My phone is not rooted.
When the notification comes for the system update just slide it right/left but not all the way, just halfway across the screen and let it go. This way you'll see "snooze" and a "gear". Tap on the gear and then "Don't show notifications"

I'm sorry, English is my third language and sometimes I don't know how to make a correct accent on the specific part of the question
the main part of my question is to disable checking for update and after doing this notifications will disappear
I understand that I can just hide the notifications but I'd like to know how to solve this problem completely

I don't think there's any thing more you can do about it Disabling from Developer Settings and hiding the notification is all I can say about it
Disable automatic system updates in developer options.
If developer options are not enabled, activate by giving 7 clicks on "Build number" (Settings / About phone / Build number)
Go to System / Advanced / Developer Options / Automatic System Updates
Disable and no longer have automatic updates. When you want to update, you'll need to manually fetch.
What is keeping you from rooting and removing updater package from system/app? Especially if you are not planing to update to pie yet
