Hi all,
I've tried to do a fair bit of digging, but I've come to realize I'm in a fairly unique position.
So to start it all, I wanted to play with some new roms. I installed a few but had weird issues, which I now understand it was due to having the wrong kernel. So I went to flash a newer kernel but ran into issues..
Now my phone ONLY get into download and bootloader page, can't get into recovery nor does it go into any rom which means I can't turn on USB debugging. Ontop of that, my bootloader is locked, when I go through the standard process via the HTC website, get my unlock token and fastboot it. My device gets stuck at the "Use volume buttons and press power to select" part of the process. Sometimes I can highlight yes, but when I press the power button to select, it freezes and reboots shortly after and thus the great loop continues. I can't flash anything else because it says bootloader is locked etc.

I've tried looking for RUU's but it feels next to impossible to find the right one, or links that are still active.
If anyone has any idea's that would be amazing! I'm literally lost and have spent hours trying to sort it out.

Tonight, I was trying to load the RUU_Supersonic_1.32.651.1_Radio_1.39.00.04.26_release_171253.exe and everything seemed to be going smoothly. I hit a few screens that I cannot recall exactly and am embarrassed to say but, I cleared all the cache and storage, thinking that I should do this as I have for other ROMs that I have loaded.
The curious question is always "why were you loading that?" I need to send my phone back to sprint because of a warranty issue. Nothing hardware related, just a screen that is loose. In order to make sure that I have a good device, I wanted to send them an original type device. Now that we have that out of the way, here is where I am.
First off, I am somewhat new but have changed ROMs around a lot; Baked Snack, CyanogenMod, Fresh, etc. I like trying out different versions to see what they do.
I saw that I needed to have my SD formatted to FAT32, so I have already done that.
I also have PC36IMG.zip loaded to my SD root.
The symptoms that I am experiencing are:
1. If I hit the power button while pushing the up volume, i get 3 vibrations and thats it. Nothing ever comes on the screen.
2. If I just turn on the device, I get the recovery screen. Once it finds the PC36IMG.zip, it starts loading and has a blue status bar on the right that goes from bottom to top as it loads.
After that, I am pretty much in the endless loop. If I restart it in recovery after that, it gives me the red triangle with a red bang.
The only thing that it will do is boot into recovery and that is it. It seems pretty well blanked out.
For diagnostic, here is what the screen says when i get into recovery:
Supersonic EVT2-3 SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-0-79.0000
MICROP-041f
TOUCH PAMEL-ATMEL224_16ab
RADIO-1.39.00.04.26
April 14 2010,15:41:34
I am beside myself and humbly ask for anyones advice on what a good step would be to get this thing running again.
I thank you for taking time to read my plea.
OK...
1)The first thing I would recommend is to delete the PC36IMG.zip from the sdcard otherwise everytime you boot into the bootloader it will ask to flash it and it will just waste time. There are a number of PC36IMG files around here and they are not all the same. It is a generic name for the RUU and if you try and flash the wrong one it won't work. And, that seems to have happened to you.
2)The white screen you arrive at by holding down the volume down button and tapping the power button is called the bootlader. Take note of that because we'll need it in a minute.
3) Downloaded the stock Sprint unrooted RUU. It needs to be the same version or newer than what's already on your phone but since you are sending it in anyway I recommend just downloading the newest one (3.7.651...) Here is a link:
http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Supersonic
4)Download HTC Sync and install it on your computer. You can get it from HTC's site or Sprint or through a google search. It will install the necessary drivers to your computer to see the phone. [EDIT] Here is a link:
http://www.htc.com/us/support/evo-sprint/downloads/
5) Once all the above is done boot the phone into the bootloader (hold volume down and tap the power button while still holding the volume down button). When the menu shows up use the volume keys to navigate to "FASTBOOT" and press the power button to select and enter FASTBOOT. Plug the phone into your PC and run the RUU.exe you just downloaded and it will return it to a completely stock unrooted state.
6) Breathe easy and take phone back to Sprint.
Thanks!!!
Worked like a flippin' charm!!!
Thank you very much for your help. Everything is fine and I am setting it back up to get me through until I can turn it back in.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.. and did I say Thank You!
Been trying to figure out how to use the RUU for two hours... this was the clearest most concise instructions for the process.
Hi everyone,

That's no random screen. This is the Phone's bootloader menu. You can reach recovery from there, reboot your phone, update it and much else. If you come to the bootloader screen by just turning on your phone, most probably your boot image (kernel) is corrupted. If hboot can not load the boot image properly, it goes to hboot menu.

FASTBOOT is a special connection mode. Via fastboot (an application for windows/linux/mac) you can issue bootloader commands to your phone.
RECOVERY brings you to a recovery OS. Since you probably did not root your phone or unlock bootloader you have a standard recovery, which is not very helpful.
CLEAR STORAGE is a factory reset option. If you already tried this option all your userdata is probably gone by that time. So you need to restore all your contacts, messages etc. yourself.
Okay, how can you revive your phone?
Go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074445 and choose a proper RUU for your phone.
Then turn on your phone, bring it to fastboot mode.
Execute the RUU tool and follow the instructions. These are official RUUs so no warranty loss.
if that does not help, there's two ways left. send the phone back for warranty, or unlock bootloader and flash a new firmware yourself.
I'll start at the beginning, Yesterday i knocked my phone into the shower, the water wasn't running but the phone got wet, I was playing music on it at the time and the volume went all muffled, i took the back off and there was only a tiny bit of water in there so i dried it and put it back together and used it, all seemed fine except it kept bringing up the screen as if i was holding the power button which brings the menu button. Now it wont turn on unless its not on charge and that is when that menu comes up, I can scroll down the options but can't click on them.
(The menu came up after my battery had died, and i put it on and charged it and that came up when i turned it on)
pleeease help
Hi there,
So recently I just tried rooting my HTC One M8, with the All-In-One tool kit. It was successful, I was messing around with it for a while, removing bloat wear, ect. Then I figured out about custom roms, and heard about CyanMod11. It turns out that it couldn't read my sim card for whatever reason, but it still worked and loaded up. Then, I tried Android Revolution. THAT one worked flawlessly, besides the fact that I couldn't take screen shots for whatever reason. I should of just left it there. Here's where things go wrong. Then, I tried ViperOneM8. After that, it failed to load up and is now in a endless boot loop. I can't get into fast boot either. However, one time I somehow did manage to get into fast boot, but I didn't see the "recovery" option anymore. So... I'm out of ideas here. I'm really worried I bricked my device for good. My device powers on and everything, it just won't load up any OS, and I can't get into fastboot/recovery. Why I'm mainly worried is I failed to create a back up also. I'm running out of ideas here, and if ANYONE could help me that would be great.

first you posted in the wrong forum this goes in Q&A
second what do you mean it won't go into fastboot / recovery ? what happens when your in the bootloader ?
I need the results of fastboot getvar all to determine what files you need to fix your phone ( not you serial no. or IMEI)
most likely your on an older firmware and you have s-on and the Rom you flashed requires s-off and the latest firmware
Gah sorry, I find this forum layout kind of confusing. So this is another problem. I cannot access "getvar", it just says device offline, and I close that command prompt and then the next one just says "please wait," and nothing happens.
What I mean by it won't go into fast boot, is when I hit power + volume down it won't load anything. Here's a pic I found off Google, I can't get to this screen here.

Easy way to get into boot loader
Turn on your phone
When it gets into bootloop
Press and hold power+vol up+vol down until screen goes off
As soon as that happens press and hold power+vol down
You'll be in boot loader
And I must say you are a major noob
Navigate to hboot using vol buttons then press power button to select, you'll find recovery
These are just 2 modes hboot and fastboot
From fast boot you can select hboot and vice versa
And also getvar will work ONLY when you're in fastboot mode
Hboot mode is used for accessing recovery

I fixed my HTC One M8! Followed some advice on another thread and I just reflashed my TWRP, then I flashed the ROM again and everything is going smooth now!
Hi there.
My partner recently tried to update his HTC one m8 Telstra phone. The screen got stuck on "android is upgrading" starting apps. With a little blue loading circle going round and round. Eventually his phone went flat and now the phone will not load past the HTC one powered by android screen. Have tried pressing volume - and power button to go into boot loader and the same thing happens. If I select recovery a little red triangle appears. Have wiped cache. Still no change. If I do factory reset, it goes through the process of "optimizing apps" and then gets stuck on android is upgrading screen etc.
My partner is even more technologically ignorant that I am so he has never done any back ups or anything .
SD card slot does not work (as he ran over his phone last year) however phone has functioned normally for the most part, up until he attempted to update. Please help if possible.
If it is not hardware problem .. only possible to fix it if the bootloader is unlocked.
Why ? because there is no Telstra RUU available, you can only fix it with a nandroid backup
To get to bootloader, press & hold both power + volume up buttons until the screen turns black, release both buttons and press & hold volume down button only to get to hboot. Then select "fastboot" on the menu to get to bootloader screen.
Can you tell what's written on bootloader ? Is it LOCKED, UNLOCKED or RELOCKED ?
Thank you for replying.
Ok so firstly, how do I tell if it's a hardware problem.?
Secondly, although the phone displays a Telstra icon upon startup, my Optus SIM card, well any carrier SIM card really, works in the phone, therefore would it be possible to use another RUU? (What on earth is an RUU?) And nandroid??? Please explain what all these terms mean, if you don't mind of course.
Because his phone screen is damaged from running over it last year, it is hard to see all the information. I'm fairly certain it is still S-on though. Is there any way I could view the boot loader details on a laptop?
I have tried the fastboot option and it still returns to HTC one screen.
How do I get a nandroid back up? Is the phone at all fixable in your opinion? I don't believe it's hard bricked from what I've managed to learn so far, though I could be wrong, as it still goes through the cycle of "optimizing apps" and attempts to start apps after selecting factory reset in boot loader.
I apologise for my lack of knowledge and ignorance on this matter and I appreciate all your help
A lot of your questions are answered here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=52484527
I don't say it is really hardware problem, I say if it is not then it is fixable by restoring correct software.
That's why it is important to get to bootloader because most info are available there.
I want you to give the details of what's written there before I can guide you further.
Those details will tell whether that's a Telstra device, whether the device was rooted which may explain the problem and so on.
If you can't get the right button combination works as I mentioned above, then you need to switch it off (maybe let the battery runs out), charge it for a few hours. Take out from charger then press & hold volume down (read again above I mentioned volume up & volume down because which volume button is important) then connect to PC or charger (this comes after you press & hold volume down button not before)
No bootloader .. not possible to fix (unless it is send to HTC centre)
I am able to get to the boot loader screen (I googled so much before posting on here) but most of the information is blacked out due to the screen being wrecked. I will try and gather as much information from what I can see and post here when I get home and I will also try and upload a picture.
Do you have any advice on how I would determine if the issue is due to hardware?
I will provide further information shortly and once again I'm am sincerely grateful for all your help.
Not easy to know it's a hardware issue when it is still can boot-up but bootloop.
hard brick means no response at all (still sometime it is due to no battery)
Ok so here a few photos of the boot loader screen, the fast boot screen and the recovery mode screen. Please bear in mind a lot of (possibly vital) information is not viewable due to screen damage that happened last year.
The most important detail that I need to know is not visible there.
Really need to know whether the bootloader is LOCKED, UNLOCKED or RELOCKED because that portion is blank out with the damage screen.
What you can try ... while on fastboot/bootloader screen (your pic #1), try to install TWRP recovery
Download TWRP 2.8.7.0 from here : https://dl.twrp.me/m8/
Make sure your PC has the required drivers, ADB/fastboot - if not sure, install these :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64926362&postcount=4
After connecting the device to PC, install the TWRP recovery with command :
fastboot flash recovery twrp-2.8.7.0-m8.img
advise the outcome, if it successful then it is easier to fix the problem.
Ok thanks. I'll download those things and then try that. From what I've learnt so far, I'm pretty certain the boot loader is locked. He got the phone brand new and has done nothing further than change his ringtone, screen display and lock screen. He's worse at technological stuff than I am lol.
Hi there,
I was wondering if someone would be able to help me recover my phone. today my phone was stuck in a bootloop and it eventually started up so I thought it would be best to factory reset just in case an app or some other software was causing this issue. Since doing this it is stuck in a continous bootloop.
I have tried to BOOT TO RECOVERY MODE through holding down the vol down + power button but i get the following message
"Failed to boot to recovery mode
Press volume up or down to back to menu"
"This build is for development purposes only, do not distribute outside of HTC without HTC's written permission."
Here is the info from another screen I can access.

Guys, still stuck with this, I have had a read through the forum and although some steps seems straight forward I am not sure what files I would need to attempt to boot from a memory card, the phone is also locked and S-On so probably cant do much?
Thanks
