Help wanted: reanimate Android 5.1.1 head unit - Connected Car

Hello,
Perhaps this issue has been solved multiple times already, but I was unable to find an answer so far. I just don't know where to start.
I own a Xtrons Android 5.1.1 head unit for a 2012 Audi A3.
The device has the MCU version of MTCD_GS_V2.04_1. It was rooted previously and ran Malaysk ROM for a week, then I restored the original ROM and upgraded it to a newer version. It still is rooted. I've been using the head unit for 10 months after that without big issues until last week.
The problem: it doesn't boot anymore. It happened on a parking lot when I switched to the back gear which turned on the rearview camera. At the switch, the screen went black and the head unit didn't respond to any button. I tried to reset it, attempted to load the recovery screen as I successfully did many times before. It didn't work. I disconnected the power and all other cables and let it stay for a few days, then connected and tried again. The issue is the same: when I power on the device, the boot stops on the Android logo screen (Lolipop). It doesn't go any further.
I contacted the tech support and they said they need to see the head unit. But doesn't rooting void the warranty? Is there anything that would help me to reanimate the head unit at home?
I'd appreciate any help.
Thanks.

Sorry for sent reply and thanks for the tip. I needed time to buy a new SD card for creating the bootable SD card as suggested in a post you linked to. I didn't work for me though. The software that should create the bootable SD card doesn't see the SD card. The computer sees and formats the SD card but when I start the app and try to choose the SD card, there's nothing in the drop down menu to choose from.

Did you give it administrative privilege? It must access the boot area of the SD, it won't work without.

[Question] Are there two disk drives or something?

**Disclaimer so that this doesn't get deleted. I looked at all the posts and tried to search, couldn't find any answers and I made this thread HERE because I doubt anyone in "General" would know what I'm talking about. This is more of a development question.**
----------
Ok, I am actually having two problems.
1) Normally when I plug my phone in the computer and choose "disk drive" mode, a screen pops up on my PC titled "Removable Disk (J)" That's actually not the right one because right behind that screen I get another pop-up titled "Removable Disk (K)" and that's actually the one with the folders and everything that I'm supposed to use (the root of the sd card folder.) So I hit cancel on (J) and am on my way using (K).
Well over the weekend, on Friday, I rooted my phone using toast's way and then I went camping without doing ANYTHING else.
Then I come back last night, everything is working fine and I installed ROM Manager on there because I wanted to flash Pete's "BuglessBeast". Since my internet connection in my basement is super slow I decided to just leave it at that and work on it at work today. Well here I am.
Problem: Phone was not connecting to computer. It kept giving me errors and then asked me to Format my card. After about half hour of trying to get it to connect I said "fine.. I'll just format it and factory reset my phone and root all over again and do all this. Well now.. phone is only connecting to (J) drive. (K) never appears.
2) Also, after rooting and finding out that ROM Manager won't work for me I have to manually download the file, I tried to go into recovery mode and every time I selected "sd card: apply update.zip", I keep getting the same error saying "FILE NOT FOUND ON SD CARD".
Any help please?
Am I doing something wrong?
Is there a way to start over, all over again?
With the problem running (where you can see both disks), right click on "My Computer" and select "manage", then go to "Disk Management" and see if your SD card is partitioned or something. That's very unusual and should only present itself if your SD card is partitioned and it's seeing both partitions.

development is not for posting questions, q and a is for posting questions (hence the name)
you probably built an ext container before (partitioned the card, using one of the recoveries). if you partition the card, they will come up as two disks when you plug the usb in. when you 'repaired' it, it formatted the whole thing into one block. by formatting, you've erased anything you had on it. you'll have to put the files you want back on the card.

ive seen quite a few windows users on here name their file update.zip but have hidden file extensions turned on so in reality the name is update.zip.zip which will not work.
if thats not the issue, something sounds very wrong with your microsd card.
not sure why you had two partitions, J and K, but seems to hint at app2sd or had two partitions setup on the microsd card ...
my friend had one go bad on him yesterday, i had never seen it before but perhaps there is something defective.
otherwise, a reformat of the card, should bring it back to new.

VM CDMA 3 vibes

Hey people,
Figured I would just start my own thread.
I have a Virgin Moble CDMA and it seems to be hard bricked.
With no battery in the phone plug in the USB cable to Windows computer unit vibrates 3 times and nothing more. Computer does not recognize that there is a device connected.
I created a gold card and placed the img file (Bare minimum to fix tripple vibe brick on USCC or VMUSA) from Simonsimon34's thread on the development area.
The SD is placed in the phone plugged in the USB get the 3 vibes and nothing else happens. I have tried waiting and then pushing the volume up to see if it will vibe again....it never does.
I know I am in what is referred to as "Qualcomm diagnostic mode" I have search and can not find anything helpful.
Any other ideas would be great.
KB
I had this problem in the past.
Run the RUU found here: http://www.filefactory.com/file/c4e..._1.25_0815_PRL61007_release_219164_signed.exe
It will be a slow download and you may need to try a few times.
Close all open applications. Run the RUU, but stop at the screen where you are able to choose to view the Read Me. Go to Windows Explorer, and type %TEMP% and pick the top one. Find "rom.zip". Move that to the desktop. Format your SD card (FAT32). Rename rom.zip to PG76IMG.zip. Put PG76IMG.zip on your SD card. Then hope it works.
If you're not running Windows or you have other problems or it doesn't work, I'm sure the problems can be resolved.
Thanks for the quick response. But I have already tried this.
I should have mentioned that.
Kevin
So you did Simon's method and the RUU method?
This is basically what I did..let me know if I am missing something.
I first tried what I believe is Simons method:
1. Took SD connected to computer.
2. I then used Simple Gold card v1 to create the gold card.
* I already had my gold card image from before when the phone was still working.
3. I then placed the PG file on the SD card.
*I've tried both the PG file that I got from the temp folder that the ruu creates and I also tried the PG file on the Simon's developer thread ( the one labeled for 3 vibes)
4. Put the SD card in the phone, then connected the USB to the computer.
All the phone does is vibrate 3 times.
I then tried the RUU.
1. I installed the HTC synch software on the computer
2. Connected the phone to the computer also.
I have tried both with a gold card and a freshly formatted SD card.
3 I then run the RUU.... All I ever get is a USB error stated to make sure the phone is connected.

When you powered the phone on did you hold the volume up and press the power button at the same time?
Yes I have.
Ok, just a thought...
Alright, I had this same problem with my VM Marvelc. I had to send it in. Don't worry. They won't be able to check to see if you've modded because your radio and hboot are totally trashed. They should just send you a new one. (If you have a warranty of any sort.)
Unfortunately I doubt that I have any warranty, I got the phone from a relative who got it at the Elan show(payed $100). It was there X-mas show, she came home with a pile of electronics (tv, android tablet, this phone....). The phone was never activated, I was just about ready too.
My wife isn't too happy that I bricked it since I can't really afford to get another one.
I've spent about a week on it and from all the research I have done pretty much any phone that is in this state either the thread just ends or they get the phone exchanged.
I sent an email to HTC but they want me to call, I'll just try to play as dumb as possible.
Well I ended up calling HTC, come to find out my phone is still under warranty even though I bought this from relative. Looks like they just go by the serial number.
Thanks for all the help, I'll be back once I get the new one.
Kevin
Awesome. And if they ask, what happened was that you were waiting to do a FOTA, but you decided to do it. After the FOTA, this problem is occurring. (Don't tell them you were messing with ROMs.)

Strange problem with a 64GB Sandisk micro SD

Hello people
I have a 64GB original Sandisk micro SDXC to use with my NOTE. It used to work fine and didn't seem defective at all until the recent 3 weeks. When I 1st realize something is wrong with it, I was attempting to reset my phone to factory and thus I backed up all data on internal SD. Then I transferred backed up files to a place (well, at least I thought) they would be left untouched on my external SD. After resetting phone I wanted to restore data, open SD direction - Where are the files I just copied a while ago?? They weren't there. Like they were never copied. A day later I deleted a folder I didn't want on the micro SD, all good. After a while the folder re-appeared there, including all the content in it! I thought it's something to do with the file manager (stock "MyFiles" manager) and tried Filexpert, FTP client, SSH. I even took the card out of my phone and tried to delete that folder from a PC. Nothing helped. When I attempt to delete it is successfully removed and there is the ability to recalculate space usage statistics without the removed folder, BUT Soon as I restart/power off/power on/dismount/re-mount, the folder is revived. I tried to copy a single file, just to sustain my concern. The file successfully transferred and stored in card. I could see it on phone and use it, all fine. I then restarted my phone - the file was no longer there, GONE! like never copied before.
I though reformatting the card would solve the problem. On phone - settings->Storage->Format SD card->yes->yes. "Done" message appeared, but nothing really happened. I inserted the card back in my PC, ran the Format process and shortly I got an error message "Unable to complete format process". Neither Quick nor full format work.
Did anybody faced a similar problem like this? Please help me out with any advice, I'll appreciate it!

Thank you for the fast reply.
Unfortunately, that thread doesn't suit my specific issue.
The thing is, my card is acting like a sort of "Read Only" device, only with the ability to temporarily modify things on it, until next "refresh".
Format is impossible in any way I tried - exFAT \ NTFS throw the same error "Windows was unable to complete the format".

That's why mine was sent to SanDisk (RMA) - I'm on first of probable four weeks of waiting for the replacement. I hope you will find a competent technical consultant :silly:

I was hoping to sort this without any special efforts like going out of home. I need to check if mine is still under warranty, but sure isn't any workaround regarding this? I'd rather save time or the 128GB may come out while I'm still waiting my replacement...

Mine was brand new, so I haven't got chance to even try it out properly But as I wrote on that thread, I've tried every possible option and non of it worked - otherwise the consultant I was spoking to wouldn't even let me do RMA.

L900 unbrick image

I've been doing some reading for the new method of unbricking devices (with an SD card) and was wondering if anyone would be willing to test out my solution? This is taken off of my L900 on the latest 4.3 firmware.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/25vcpgruz6lwfvg/unbrick.img
To use this you must have access to Linux:
1) You must have a 16GB SD Card (unsure about why everyone suggests 16GB, but it's the one that's worked for most people) inserted into a reader/adapter to insert into your computer.
2) Download my unbrick.img
3) Type su in a terminal to gain admin privileges
4) Type dd if=/path to unbrick.img/unbrick.img of=/dev/mmcblk0 (you will want to find out which partition your SD Card reader is on, I used fdisk to search for it. Mine ended up being mmcblk0).
5) Insert the SD Card into your L900 and try to boot into Download Mode (Vol Down+Home+Power)
I HIGHLY SUGGEST TRIPLE CHECKING YOUR SD CARD PARTITION BEFORE SENDING THE DD IF COMMAND (to prevent "waa waa my main OS is gone...")
120 views... sooo did anyone try it out yet? Did it work? Did it do nothing? Is everyone scared because I don't have a lot of posts? Lol. I'll post the procedure I used to make the .img when I get to work for those of you requiring proof that this should work (on a HARD bricked phone; it does nothing for an already working phone).
Here's how I got the .img:
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0 of=/sdcard/unbrick.img bs=1024 count=71680
I then transferred the unbrick.img from the phone's SD Card to the computer, and used Linux on the computer to write the img to the SD card (this method is NOT the same as copy paste) using this command after elevating myself to admin (su), "dd if=/path to unbrick.img/unbrick.img of=/dev/mmcblk0"
After this, you should be able to insert the SDCard into the phone and boot it (you might need to hold down vol down+home+power to get into download mode). I don't currently have a bricked L900 but I'd like to know this works (just in case).

I will try this out as soon as I get computer access. How large is the image file?
I've done quite a bit of research since then, and have become very familiar with the SD Card "JTAG" process that msmercy, noobtoob, DocHoliday, zinnium, ShabbyPenguin, and I (I'm VERY sorry if I forgot someone, this was the list off the top of my head!) were working on with the N900T. To revise my OP, I think the count I used was closer to 200MB. The image is about 195MB. Let me redo this again, reupload it, and I'll edit this post with the new link.
Additionally, you MUST use an SD Card the same size as your phone. I think the L900s were 16GB? My total device storage space (minus SD Card storage) is 16GB, so I'd have to use a 16GB SD Card. Additionally you MUST use some kind of Linux terminal to write this image to the SD Card. You can also do it in terminal emulator on a android phone though. You just need to be VERY careful about what partition you're writing to; it MUST be to the SD Card partition (on my phnoe it's mmcblk1, although yours MAY be different).
My new revised image is 310MB. It's the size that was used in the N900T hard brick *solved* thread. Should definitely cover enough to boot. Enjoy: https://www.mediafire.com/?5zwpr45v7zzhyat

Tried this with a 16gb Kingston sd card using Linux terminal but formatted as ext4. This did not work. However I did read in some other thread that it worked when it was formatted in exfat for the note3. Will try that when I get a chance on my l900 and I will try the smaller image as well. I bricked my l900 after successfully installing swamp monster rom. I didn't disable the update notification and someone did me the wonderful favor of clicking update.... And a few days later when I rebooted into recovery for whatever reason at the time restarted again and phone showed note2 logo froZe for 10 minutes I pulled the battery and put it back and boom. Dead, no power no led no charge light no download mode. I'm hoping one of these images work...I miss my note.
Class 10
Ok the sd card that I had was not a class 10 but a class 4. Just purchased a class 10 16gb sd San disk today, the. I will try this again when I get home and keep you posted as to what happens. hope I can get my L900 going this time with this card. Wish me luck!

can you get into download mode? If so, I started a thread on how to unbrick your phone after failing 4.3 downgrade. I can help you if you can get into download, if not, there isn't really much anyone can do outside of a shop. You can flash the tar file in my thread, then do the mc2 back to stock, it works to downgrade to mc2
i cannot get into download mode, phone doesn't respond to charger or plugging usb into computer, computer does not recognize...it appears to be hardbricked... i tried the 310mb image but haven't gotten a chance to try the other one on my 16gb sd sd card
Sorry I've been a little inactive here. So the 310MB image didn't work on a 16GB Class 4 card? Hmm. How many times did you try to write to it? I've heard of some guys that gave had to write to the card multiple times before the phone actually recognized it as a boot able device.

Brick problem
Maybe you guys can help me out. I bricked my phone by going from the Carbon rom to the latest CM nightly, at which point i had no connection to the network, so I decided to flash the stock MC2 via Teamwin Recovery, and now it goes black after showing the Galaxy Note 2 screen.
I can get into boot loader.
I don't know if Teamwin was the issue instead of clockwork, or if it's a modem/kernel reverting to previous version issue. I'm downloading MK4 stock now and I'll try doing that from odin,
Any advice?

Hopefully you're grabbing the MK4 tarball and not one of my unbrick images lol. My unbrick images in this thread are for HARD bricked devices only and they're supposed to be wrote to a sdcard not the phone.
Now that that's out the way...I've heard of TWRP issues after MK4. I'd stick with CWM if I were you. You should come right out of your soft brick after you flash the MK4 tarball. You may need to wipe data and cache afterwards.

Yeah, doing the MK4 stock, then reinstalling the CM11 fixed everything.

"dd if=/storage/sdcard0/unbrick.img of=/storage/sdcard1/mmcblk1"
When entering these commands in terminal arguments seemed correct, no errors everything appears to be successful but after unmounting sdcard and inserting it in phone and doing the 3 button combo (volume down, power and home button) I get nothing no response. I tried pressing the buttons before I placed the battery back in as well and no cigar...I tried plugging my note 2 for a couple hrs and tried again and nothing. I can't even tell if it is charging....I hope I don't have to send this in....I know shops but no one around here (Denver) knows how to JTAG. That will be my last resort if I can't get it going here. Any advice anyone?

Thanks for trying. Seems some of the other Note 2 variants have some kind of short that's able to get it into SD card mode. Might not be as easy as the Note 3 phones where there is no short required (despite the n900 generic Samsung JTAG document saying otherwise).
Mobiletechvideos.com is supposedly a good place to get your phone JTAG'D. You ship your phone to them, they do the work, and they ship it back.

I can open it up if I knew where to short it. The pdf file I have seen for that method seems kind of vague.
As small as the insides of this phone are I may need a magnifying glass. I will take a look at the pdf again. Thanks again

After opening phone up I cannot find the resistor referenced in the pdf for the n900 I can't find the r4075 resistor on the l900 so I'm sending it in to MobileTechVideos.
Thank you for your help.
If they can't help (they couldn't JTAG my N900T) we can continue here. We got this working for the N900T so I'm SURE we can get it for the L900. Just need time, like any other project Keep us updated!

I will keep u updated. I haven't had time to send out my phone yet I've been so busy with work. I am willing to give the images a try again however I am limited to where I think my battery is dead in my l900 and I need a way to charge it without using another note2. Phone doesn't respond to USB charger... I can try splicing open an extra USB cable I have and clipping the wires to the battery but, I do not know where to connect on the battery terminals...any references or advice appreciated.

Good thread Paul nice to have a place to discuss this tablet i have just posted in the other thread you refereed to but will also post it here below
I bought a 10.1 Allwinner A31s 16GB from Ebay for £60 the device details show as a YONESTOPTECH BS1078
It is a nice tablet for the price and came pre rooted witch was great.
One of the first things i did was make a backup off the Rom with online nandroid backup as i like messing and wanted a backup just in case i messed up. and here is where things got messy, online nandroid backup would only be able to restore if i had a custom recovery (CWM or TWRP)
So off i went and tried to install TWRP from the guide on this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2210676
Long story short it didn't work an i thought i had bricked it as it was stuck on the boot logo, i managed to find FW for a Q102 A31S Tablet Stock Firmware 4.4.2 wich is the same tablet under a different name, after several failed attempts to recover through phoenix suite as i couldn't get it into recovery, i downloaded phoenixcard and successfully flashed the FW Phew all was good lol.
So if anyone has successfully installed a custom recovery any info would be grateful as it would be nice to try a custom Rom.
I have also had a little play with dragonface for allwinner devices as this lets you change a few things on the stock ROM ISO and then you can re flash with your custom changes, Two things i would like to tweak are volume and lcd settings as i feel the volume on this device is to quiet and the lcd contrast could do with tweaking. in dragon face you can load the sys.cofig settings, i have found the volume config but haven't got a clue what can be changed to increase the max volume level so if anybody has any knowledge then any input would be appreciated, here is the code for audio settings,
Code:
;pa_single_vol,pa_double_vol: 31 level,1.5db/step.0x1f is the large volume.
;cap_vol:use for system record,0x0--0db,0x1--24db,0x2--27db,0x3--30db,0x4--33db,0x5--36db,0x6--39db,0x7--42db
;headphone_vol,earpiece_vol: must least than 0x3b. 0x1 is a step.
;headset_mic_vol: headset mic(mic2) vol,use for phone headset mic call
;main_mic_vol: main mic(mic1) vol,use for phone main mic call
;--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[audio_para]
audio_used = 1
audio_hp_ldo = "none"
headphone_vol = 0x3b
earpiece_vol = 0x3b
cap_vol = 0x7
pa_single_vol = 0x1b
pa_double_used = 1
pa_double_vol = 0x1f
headphone_direct_used = 0
headphone_mute_used = 0
audio_pa_ctrl = port:PA18<1><default><default><0>
audio_mute_ctrl = port:PA17<1><default><default><0>
headset_mic_vol = 6
main_mic_vol = 6
Thanks in advance for any input

ezcast application install error
Hi,
I get an error message when I try to install the ezcast app on the tablet, do you have any
idea why this would happen? I would really like to cast from this device to my tv.
Also when I try to install the fulltilt poker app from fulltilt.com, the site doesn't recognize my
device as an android device. I got over it by copying the .apk file from another device but
I just thought to mention it.
Thanks,
Zohar
Hmm. I've been able to install ezcast on mine, and maybe the poker game was initially meant for windows. Your tab most likely came pre rooted so check your root permission. For ez cast contact the apps developer he is very good at replying just give all stats from about phone . good luck

I just purchased an AllWinner Q102 Tablet. It took me a day or so to realize that it also is pre-rooted. Here is my problem. I continue to get errors that say "unfortunately google play.... has stopped." or "unfortunately Netflix has stopped"
It's driving me crazy! I can't use any of my regular apps.
The model is a Q102

It seems like a nice little tablet for the price....
I would rather go to stock if it works rather than a root that is flakey
Thanks for any help you can give!
My Google Play reboots, but no "unfortunately" messages

I seem to have the identical tablet (specdevice . com / showspec.php ? id=5f13-c36d-ffd4-db280033c587) purchased in October. Mine was also pre-rooted, and it took me a while to figure that out too!
I do not see the messages/crashes that you see; my apps generally run with stability. I do occasionally experience surprise reboots (presumably from crashes) when I connect a USB device or am attempting to upgrade a large app via Google Play. I assume that my Google Play reboots are somehow related to running out of app disk space. Even though my tablet has 32 GB flash internally (split into two 16 GB flash devices) for some reason only 2GB was allocated to the /data partition, where apps are installed. When I found your post, I was actually looking for a solution to increase my tablet's /data partition. I read about different firmware downloads available (earlier in this thread, and in a chinagadgetsreviews blogspot -- sorry, XDA does not let me post links yet) but don't know whether they would help me with my small /data partition problem.
I'd be happy to test any particular apps on my tablet, if that would be of diagnostic use to you. And please let me know if you ever discover a solution to increase the app disk space.
