I uninstalled the default gallery app and use Simple Gallery. Is there a way to tie the OOS camera to it? When I take a picture the small thumbnail shows up in the circle at lower right, but touching it does nothing, "no photo" pop-up. I have my gallery app set as default on settings.
Not sure if it will help but try installing another gallery app and see what pops up (if anything) when you touch the thumbnail from the camera app.
I have installed a QuickPic gallery (the best gallery app in my opinion) as well as the Open Camera app (used it before on my Samsung Note3 running Resurrection Remix so it kind of installed itself when I connected my google account).
Anyways, not I have a stock camera app opening stock gallery app (when touching the thumbnail) and I have Open Camera app opening the QuickPic, even though the stock gallery is set as default.
I'm thinking the issue may be you uninstalled the stock gallery before changing the defaults and now your camera is still looking for that stock app? It seems some apps can override the system defaults (as is in my case 2 different camera apps opening different gallery apps), and installing another gallery app may bring up the menu where you could choose your default gellery to open from camera app.
Bravo! I dirty flashed the ROM and it works again. Switched default to Simple Gallery, works. Froze OOS gallery, still works! Just need to change it before getting rid of it.
There is a default app in the settings somewhere.

Yeah, settings/apps/default. Just saying you need to set you default app, before uninstalling the system one or it won't switch.

Hi,
I have a strange problem. When I try to change the wallpaper of the default lockscreen on SGSIII, nothing happens. I get to set the crop size in gallery and then it returns to the settings....without the logscreen wallpaper being changed.
Anyone else experiencing this and know how to fix it?
Are you using the stock gallery to crop the wallpaper or using another app? I also had that trouble but was using a 3rd party app to crop like quickpic and it wouldnt save. I then tried the stock gallery and it worked fine.

I have the choice between "gallery" and "wallpaper" and I have tried both of them without any luck.

What im really trying to say is that after you click gallery and find the picture you want to use as a wallpaper for the lock screen. did it ask you to complete the action using another program to crop it? like did you install another gallery app? if you did install another gallery app, did you set that as default action? because if you set another program as default, or using another program to "crop" it and not using the stock gallery app, it may not work. if you did set another program as default to crop it, you may need to go into that app and clear defaults in settings => application manager, then use the stock gallery app to crop the picture

You were absolutely right. Another gallery app had taken over the crop part so even though I used the samsung gallery app for selection of the wall paper, the cropping was still done by the other app.
Clearing defaults helped solving that.
Thanks a mill.

I had this same issue as well when I first got my phone, good tip Thanks!
I also noticed that if you uninstall the stock Gallery app, the wallpaper chooser force closes when you try to change the lockscreen wallpaper. Not your issue here, but maybe someone else will stumble across this who is having the same issue I just spent 30 minutes fighting with.
When I try to go to the gallery through the stock camera app (by clicking the photo thumbnail in the bottom corner), it always uses the stock gallery app to view the photos.
How can I change my default to Quickpic? There was no default to reset in the first place, and when I disable the gallery app in the app management page and try again, it just FC's the camera app.
I installed a gallery app called QuickPic
Can I make it my default as I open gallery from camera app
Thanks

If you are on stock, disabling Gallery means disabling the camera as well.
If you are on any of the 4.4 AOSP ROMs, you can disable and even remove the Gallery application without touching the camera. But even then, after the pic camera will preview the picture in it's own application.
Mostly camera applications come with their own Gallery to be accessed after you take a pic.
So in conclusion, no you can't set any gallery app as default with camera app unless the camera doesn't have it's own gallery, but for everything else you can set QuickPic as a default picture viewer.
no u cant
Hi, I search in many different topics but without answer. I also installed gapps and so on, but still cannot force gallery to show my google plus photos. On stock ROM it just works out of box, right now I use Cyan and there I can't use this feature.
Why I would like to have those photos in gallery app instead of using g+ photo app? Because I want to have a widget on desktop with those photos (with out update of album), and so far it is only method which I found (default gallery widget + Gplus sync). Do you have any ideas how to fix it?

Try clearing data on the app info for gallery and then launch and refresh in the top right menu?
I am coming from the GP4, and here's my issue. When I utilize an app such as Facebook Messenger, Telegram, and select a photo it automatically defaults to pulling the photo from the Samsung Gallery. Well, when I had a GP4, it would pull from Google Photos regardless, even if the image wasn't local, it would download it from the server and send. There's no way to change the default galleries app that I know of. Does anyone have a workaround for this? Is it changeable?
There's also the issue of taking a photo or video with the default camera app and if you happen to remove the Samsung Gallery APK through the console, pressing on the preview bubble of the just taken picture or video results in an error popup that there is no gallery app installed even though I have Google Photos installed.
I wish Samsungs version of Android would be more open and not so limited to their "core" apps.
