So, unfortunately I encrypted my phone. I didn't realize that you lose face unlock, pattern unlock and some other features.
I want those features back, but I don't want to lose any of my home screen setups, apps and app data. What is the right way to decrypt the phone and restore as-is. It's rooted, with CWM recovery and running stock 4.1.2.
Will Titanium Backup do the job and restore as-is after I decrypt my phone as decrypting it restores the entire phone back to default settings,
I want to make sure I get the widgets on homescreen features when 4.2 update hits, and I have a feeling they won't work with an encrypted phone.
Thanks for the help! =]
Yes, TB should work. Back up everything using TB, copy that to your PC, factory reset your device, copy the files back to your device and restore.

Alright cool, thanks! I noticed that I have to tap install for every app when I had done a restore for a friend. Is there any way around that? It's time consuming to have to press Install and Done for every app being restored.
You need to by the pro version for batch restore. Or buy another backup app like rom toolbox

decryption on android
You can decrypt on android without having to factory reset and losing data.
Follow the procedure below:
Go to settings menu >> select lockscreen >> select password >> type a six digit password containing atleast one number or as shown in encryption option >> now select security (it should be right below the lockscreen option) >> now select encrypt extsd or encrypt device (whatever you pressed while encrypting your device) >> deselect all the check boxes (not a single option to be ticked) >> press the continue button below >> press disable encryption >> you will be asked for password . Just enter the 6 digit password you recently set under the lockscreen option >> your device/extsd should get decrypted .
Works well for my galaxy tab 2 running jelly bean.
Pls report if it works or doesn't work.

It did not work as the encrytption option is greyed out and nothing pops up even if u click on it. I guess the only way is to take backup and then rest and then restore.
Works for me
Works for me (Android 4.2), I have the same key as lock and as encryption pw, so I am not sure which is which.
I have to enter the key after clicking decrypt and then click on decrypt again (to confirm the warning).
Device reboots and starts decryption process.

I am using a Samsung Galaxy Note. I just followed these steps and it worked for me. There is a crucial step. Selecting a password of more than 6 characters. First pass I tried a shorter password in the "lock screen" step mentioned above. However when I navigated to the Security page to choose Decrypt, that button remained greyed out. When I repeated the same steps with a longer password it was enabled.
Thanks for trying

Doesn't work on moto razr hd xt925 with stock android 4.1.2
The "Encrypt phone" option (under Security Settings), used to encrypt it in the first place, will be disabled no matter what I do from all you listed.
also make sure you have your battery at >80% and plugged in to a power source. on my galaxy S5 the option to decrypt was grayed out until my password was at least 6 letters and 1 number and my phone was plugged in and over 80%.
if you have met those requirements and still grayed out then not sure.

What I accidentally did was Encrypt my device thinking I was going to put a password on my phone so people couldn't get on my phone. Not wanting to have
to put the password in every time I looked for a way without resetting my phone. What you need to do is click on Device then to Lock screen. After an update the screen
password is now under that section and not Security. After clicking on Lock screen you can click on Screen Lock under Screen Security. There you can put in a different
password and then you can remove the password and now it wont be Encrypted.
One other things besides the password and such:
If you were forced to encrypt by connecting to you company email or something, make sure you disable it in device administrator (under the same security tab). If there is a device administrator enabled, it might be forcing encryption on (which will grey out or remove your decrypt option).
Of course disabling the device administrator for your company email or such will erase your emails on the phone but you can resync it once you install it again.
Just another thought since that was my case. I have to do that everytime samsung updates since it will only update when the device is decrypted.
Note 4 Edge
Thank You!!!
I was getting tired of the tedious password prompt to decrypt my phone everytime I needed to use it. This actually worked.

Looking to disable encryption Galaxy S5 version 6.0.1
Anyone know if there is a way to disable the encryption on a Galaxy S5? It has the latest version (6.0.1). I was attempting to add my work email account to my phone and
while doing so it popped up on the screen requiring the phone to be encrypted. However, either I didn't enter the information correctly or something, since I wasn't able to
view my work emails. I've since removed that particular account I added. Just looking now to disable the encryption portion and go back to way it was. Thanks guys
I have discovered a way to disable and replace Alexa with the Google Assistant through what you could call a 'privilege escalation.' I don't know anything about the Fire Phone so I don't know if you can hook it up to a PC and run ADB commands to it. Can you even download Google apps (sorry if this sounds stupid)?
Anyways, I need some testers to see how widespread this is. In android there is a permission set called WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS. Basically you can create an app with that said permission in it's manifest. Doing so allows the app to be escalated to a 'root user' in order to edit, remove and or manipulate a set of settings Android called Settings.Secure. In this set of settings are three tiers: System, Secure and Global. The app, or anyone with access to ADB, can run a command to add, remove or change the values of some of these settings.
An app currently exists and is available on the Play Store, that edits these settings; Settings Database Editor. I need you to do the following steps for me please and thank you:
1. Download, install the app, but don't edit anything yet.
2. Hook the device up to your PC and open an ADB window.
3. Type and hit enter when done:
Code:
adb shell pm grant by4a.setedit22 android.permission.WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS
4. Go back to the Settings Database Editor app and tap on the Secure tab.
4. Locate the following three lines, if they exist:
Code:
"alexa_enabled"
"assistant"
"voice_interaction_service"
"voice_recognition_service"
5. Go back to the ADB window. Type each of the commands below, hitting enter after each one. You won't see any reply or messages if the commands are successful:
Code:
adb shell settings put secure assistant com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox/com.google.android.voiceinteraction.GsaVoiceInteractionService
adb shell settings put secure voice_interaction_service com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox/com.google.android.voiceinteraction.GsaVoiceInteractionService
adb shell settings put secure voice_recognition_service com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox/com.google.android.voicesearch.serviceapi.GoogleRecognitionService
adb shell settings put secure alexa_enabled 0
If the last command doesn't work, go to the Settings Database Editor app and tap on secure tab. Locate the alexa_enabled setting and tap it. change the 1 to a 0 and save the setting.
6. Open the Google App and go to settings > voice > Configure 'Ok Google" or your Assistant.
The more who confirm this, the better

Hi DragonFire1024,
Thanks for this very interesting post I was just wondering by to see if anyone had unlocked the bootloader
Problem with the fire phone is probably 98% of users here use one of @ggow custom ROM's LineageOS 11 or the AOSP based SlimKat and Nexus Rom. Those running the Stock ROM are likely not interested in development hence why no reply's.
To be honest I never even gave the Fire OS a chance before rooting and switching to the Nexus ROM. I am not sure our fire OS has Alexa :silly: or at least as we know it today yes you heard correct a Premium Amazon Device and they see fit not push it out to Amazon device owners. In fact they just went one better and removed the voice service altogether. https://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-phone/general/amazon-voice-services-fire-phone-t3681235 Pretty amazoning :laugh
I was kinda hoping it was to make way for Alexa and a Massive OS Update but I guess thats just wishful thinking.
Dear Community,
Greetings,
I have been using the mate 20 x for a while now, and very happy with it, what is missing from the phone (and the mate 20 pro too) is the pocket mode in the settings of the dialer app. I had this option on my old Huawei P9.
When having the phone in my pocket, and a phone call starts ringing, the ringtone volume starts increasing, and this doesn't look good when I'm at work or in a meeting.
Is there any ADB command to bring the option to the settings (I used the ADB commands on P9 to show the Font Styles which was missing from the phone).
Regards,
Pocket mode gone
Hi I have the same problem,
latest with EMUI 9.0.0 the pocket mode setting cannot be found via dialer > three dot menu anymore.
Regardless of volume settings (except for vibrate only) the ring tone volume keeps increasing to embarrassing loudness levels when the phone is in my briefcase.
Is there any change to disable the pocket mode "feature" when you cannot access it anymore?
Regards,
MaeSiuS
Finally, a solution to missing pocket mode option
Hello,
I have finally solved it, I tried it and it works perfectly.
Here are the steps:
1- Install settings database editor by 4A from Google Play store
2- Allow developer options in your phone's settings
3- Allow USB debugging
4- Install platform tools ADB on your PC
5- Connect your phone to PC
6- Make sure your phone is recognized by ADB, type command: adb devices
7- if the ADB console list your device number, type the command:
adb shell pm grant by4a.setedit22 android.permission.WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS
8- On your phone, open the application Setedit
9- Go to the Secure Table from the top right menu
10- Find the line "Hide_Pocket_Mode", select the value, change it from 1 to 0.
11- Restart your phone, and you'll find the option in the dialer options, More settings.
Hope I helped, it took me time and some research, but it was worth it. lots of embarrassment caused by high ringtone in the office.

It is necessary since it will grant permission to the setedit app to modify the secure table, without ADB, setedit won't work.

Thank's a lot for this. It works perfectly on P30 Pro :good: :highfive:
It's hard to understand and unlogic why manufacturers like Huawei hide options like Pocket mode in their software. Most users, even the simpliest, surely are interested to customize ring tone options.
Thank you very much Hash_droid, works on P20 pro. :highfive:
Hash_droid, works perfectly on a Mate 10 Pro (I had the same issue) . Thanks a lot.
Thanks, confirming also for Mate 9, EMUI 9.1, not rooted (BL locked).
Btw, I've also enabled virtual HD sound - not sure if the call quality is better
This works on Mate 20 pro. But, if your ADB doesnt recognise your phone, install Huaweis HiSuite. Only so ADB listed my phone.
However, person at Huawei who decided that removing option to disable pocket mode should ne fired. Also, who ever designed the diler app. Huawei, just copy Samsungs dialer, or at least use google phone app. My galaxy S6 had 10x better dialer then my Mate 20 pro now has. At least I have google phone now.

Download "Setttings database editor" by 4a. Open it up and click on Global properties, scroll down until you see "tether_dun_required". Change the value to zero. You now have internet via hotspot. It's best to buy the add on because it keeps the setting locked even if you restart phone. Enjoy?

Oh my bad i left out the most important part.
1. Install adb on your laptop (search it up)
2.On your phone go to settings, general, about phone, software info, find build number section and keep tapping until you are a developer
3. Go back to general and you'll now see developer options, turn developer options on and go down to usb debugging and turn it on.
4. Connect your phone to your laptop via USB (you will get a promt on your phone along the lines of "allow USB debugging?", click ok) and open up command terminal
5. Type "adb" and press enter
6. Type the command (without quotes) "adb devices". Your device should show up.
7. Type "adb shell" and press enter
8. Open up the settings database editor and go to global and scroll down to tether_dun_required. Click "edit value" and the shell command should pop up.
Type the shell command into adb shell and press enter
9. Go to the settings data base editor and go back to the tether_dun_required and click on change value. You'll notice that you are now able to change the value, change it to 0.
10. Enjoy your hotspot!
It seems like a lot of steps but it's not. The most "difficult" task will be installing adb.
Awesome. Got it to work now. Do you have to set it to 1 for the Ota updates or after each reset? Thanks again!
No, theres no need to set it back to "1". After you shut off your phone the setting value will turn back to a "1" and you hotspot wont work until you switch it back to "0". To save time you can buy the feature pack and you'll get access to settings guardian which will keep it at "0" at all times.
PROBLEM:Under certain scenarios, enabling Quick Unlock on the OnePlus 9 Pro with Android 12 causes semi-bricked phone: the phone will vibrate OVER and OVER again and it is impossible to log in!
If your phone is in this state, here's three possible fixes:
Spoiler: Possible Solution #1
POSSIBLE SOLUTION #1:
Thanks to Caligastia's post, here's another option to resolve.... (quoting from his post)[/B]
Just use the adb command...
Code:
locksettings clear --old [PASSWORD]
And that should do the trick.. Make sure to untoggle the quick unlock option if you set a new password
Click to collapse
Spoiler: Possible Solution #2
POSSIBLE SOLUTION #2:
Revert to settings_system.xml.fallback file. Do not follow this guide UNLESS your phone is in this vibrate over and over / impossible to login state.
Note: This only works if you have USB debugging enabled on your computer with root enabled. This will not work if you haven't performed adb shell as root before ( com.android.shell ). Doesn't hurt to try!
Boot up phone to system/normal mode.
Type the following in command prompt:
Code:
adb shell
su
ls /data/system/users/0/settings_system.xml
If it says:
Code:
/data/system/users/0/settings_system.xml
Then this fix should work! Otherwise, this probably won't work.
Finally, type...
Code:
mv /data/system/users/0/settings_system.xml /data/system/users/0/settings_system.xml.old
cp /data/system/users/0/settings_system.xml.fallback /data/system/users/0/settings_system.xml
reboot
Your phone will reboot and the issue should be fixed!
By applying this method you may lose a few recently changed system settings, but nothing major.
Spoiler: Possible Solution #3
POSSIBLE SOLUTION #3:
Go to bootloader/fastboot mode on your phone.
Type
Code:
fastboot --set-active=a
fastboot reboot
if it doesn't boot right still, go back to bootloader/fastboot and type
Code:
fastboot --set-active=b
fastboot reboot

This option appears if you select Alphanumeric password, using the regular keyboard instead of number pad. Quick unlock will unlock your phone immediately once you enter the password without having to press the enter key.
Interesting, I have the LE2125 with alphanumeric enabled.

Unfortunately you have to allow the host (your computer), but you can't do that unless you can tap on the popup.
Can you get in with TWRP or anything else? If so you could edit the file that way. Otherwise, try booting to the other slot.

Just saw this, hope i'm not too late to help.
If adb shows "unauthorized" it just means that usb debugging permission was revoked between your phone and computer. here's what to do: (assuming you're on windows)
-Unplug your phone from pc. Disable Usb debugging and turn off "disable timeout"
-on your pc, go to C:/users/<username>/.android (it's a hidden folder) and delete adbkey.
-reboot both phone and pc to make sure it takes effect.
-plug your phone again, turn on usb debugging and you should get a new prompt to allow authorization.
adb devices should return your serial number now.

Thanks for that man! I updated the original post to include your solution and linked to your post for credits!
I had the same issue on my OnePlus Nord, and finally managed to fix it too!
Thanks to @asheroto for your initial guide and @Caligastia for your last comment that gave me the idea of trying with digits only!
Here is how I did it:
After rebooting my phone in recovery mode to activate the USB debugging, I connected to it using adb shell
The locksettings clear --old [PASSWORD] command wasn't allowed on my phone.
==> I'm guessing it was due to some security settings enforced by the enterprise work profile I had installed on my device.
So instead of trying to clear the password, I tried to change it to a PIN code using the command:
locksettings set-pin --old [PASSWORD] [PIN_CODE_HERE]
The command succeeded and after a few seconds of waiting, a digit keyboard finally shown up on my previously bugged lock screen, allowing me to unlock my phone!
I then disabled in the system settings the "Quick Lock" feature and restore my previous password.

can you help me i cant seem to get adb to recognize my phone
Hi,
Is there any possible solution for us who don't have USB-Debugging enabled?
The goal is to not have to wipe the whole phone and loose all data.
Possible solution #1 fails: Wont work because USB debugging is disabled which prevents us from getting adb-shell and run the "
locksettings clear --old [PASSWORD]" command. When trying to figure out how to enable USB debugging from remote it seems to require some fastboot option which would wipe the phone.
Possible solution #2: Same - requires shell, and we cant enable usb debugging because of the bug
Possible solution #3: I can access fastboot but not run the specific commands:
fastboot getvar current-slot
current-slot: b
Finished. Total time: 0.000s
fastboot --set-active=a
Setting current slot to 'a'
FAILED (remote: 'Slot Change is not allowed in Lock State')
fastboot: error: Command failed
Unlocking boot to install TWRP and enable debugging to use ADB shell would wipe the phone as I understand it.
Any suggestions please?
Is your phone locked when you're doing that?

Developer options enabled
OEM bootloader unlock enabled
USB debugging enabled
Default USB Configuration file transfer
Non-TMO variant = boot to bootloader, then fastboot OEM unlock...wipes device. No other way. Unlock bootloader will wipe device period.
