I got this message to update my phone. I am gonna call verizon and tell them to stop sending me stupid messages like this.
Anyone else get this text from verizon?
I have updates blocked on my S8+

I am still running Build AQGL and reading all the negative posts on here about the last few updates. I think I will just stay on this build. Still gonna call the big V and be put on the do not ever bother list.
It's funny they try to scare you into updating your phone. I have never ever had an issue with calling out.
well good luck not being able to make calls to certain devices. I can't understand why you wouldn't want to be informed of OS issues like this. suit yourself.

Funny I don't have issues... If I did I would just go back to using my rooted Moto X Pure anyway or the Note 4. I always have a few phones to use on standby.
Plus there are alot of negitive posts about the updates and people wanting to flash back so why take the update. I don't see a reason.
Don't try to fix what's not broke. So far my S8+ is doing well other than we can't unlock the bootloader and root.
I will move on to another device before long that is. :good:
:silly:
Another reason not to update... You do these updates and all Verizon does is put more crap apps on your phone... I would never buy a branded verizon phone again. unlocked is the only way to go.
Then you don't get to ***** when the tides are turned and the unlocked versions are the last ones to get any kind of update on them. Cause lately that's what I've been seeing...the unlocked versions may not have any "carrier bloat" but they are SO FAR behind in updates (Security or OS updates)

Don't really care about updates... If the phone works I leave it alone!!
If I was worried about it I would go back to rooting and do the custom ROM thing again.

so kinda bothersome....but not really i dont guess....was following directions on droidlife to unlock bootloader. Noticed it said bootloader unlocked but went on anyway. typed fastboot oem unlock and it says error, already unlocked. Guess my nexus shipped already unlocked? Is this possible?
also under signing it says engineering....one in droid life photo says production....anybody else?
You have a protoype or dev phone. I have one as well. It doesn't really make a difference because these bootloaders can be locked again (I think).
Not sure about you, but I wouldn't enjoy having an engineering model. Never know what could happen in the future depending on how new or old it is. Where did you get it from?
I purchased from verizon store yesterday.....build date of 11/18 I think it said
So you are saying that from the very first boot you had the white unlock icon on the startup screen where it says GOOGLE in white?
I doubt you got a dev or proto...
maybe someone returned one? or maybe ur sales rep unlocked it for you (lol)
if it bothers you return it and unlock it yourself lol

Hi,
I bought my nexus in Germany (Saturn stores). I just found out that my GN was also unlocked. I never flashed a phone before so i was not sure what to make out of it.
And indeed now that you say it the white GOOGLE text has come up on boot from the first time i booted him.
So any cool things i can do with a dev phone? Any disadvantages?

check about phone and see if under model # it says Galaxy Nexus (ENGINEER) like mine does...
Bump,......
It doesnt say Engineer with me... :/
I know I am. But it just proves since we got it for Verizon all of the updates will be delayed from when GSM users get them
Suçks cause i thought we got the 4.02 update pretty quick.
I wonder if Sprint having basically the same phone will change anything?
Of course there is always CM9 or AOSP builds. But official stuff is always nice. Makes me wonder why they havent officially released it.

Seems like a dumb question I know, but I couldn't find anywhere to confirm that. I mean, I figure after rooting, all is still good. But if I flash a new rom, say CM7 or something, is that still the case? Or do I have to do something special to get back on, etc?
huh? Flashing a rom has nothing to do with the carrier.
Sent From My Sprint Galaxy Nexus
Yes. You are still on Sprint.

I would recommend you DON'T flash a ROM. If you flash a new ROM, your phone will randomly get signals from verizon and at&t, and then your phone transforms into an iphone. Its a nasty site. Just stick with your current setup.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA
You know, as I read through different threads that talk about manual activation or changing carriers, it is NOT apparent that my carrier information and activation remain intact if I flash a new rom. As a matter of fact, if you step back for a second, it would almost seem a bit counter intuitive that such a large change to the phone would not affect that, especially given some of the other conversation here.
All my experience in rooting is with the nook, which doesn't have this aspect to consider so I figured I'd ask and confirm before screwing with the phone. So thanks for answering.
What you might have read is about either people force roaming on Verizon or people who have their phone already flashed to an alternate carrier. It is a very difficult process to take an inactive phone and flash to another carrier. Those settings are not touched by ROMs neither is the modem (baseband) of your phone. You must have misread and misunderstood many things.

Don't mind the signal. I usually use roam control to force roam when I'm at work but did this for demo purporses.

Thanks for those who answered. I had read just enough to want to be sure before I did anything, but suspected that it would be firm.
Thanks for confirming.
Does any one know when the 4.3 Leak will get here for T-mobile galaxy note 2. i see the one in the AT&T forum. just wondering how long before we get this Leak
no firm dates but rumor has it between now and the end of the year..
Already a thread for this here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2458581

If the Note 2 is really that awesome as you call it, why jump ship? Heck why worry about the software update at all?
Just saying. It is a great device but i wont ditch it just because an update takes a while.
I have a HTC One, Nexus 4 and Note 2.
When i put 4.3 on my HTC One i made that my primary phone. When the Note 2 gets 4.3 ill make that my primary for a while.
Guess that sounded disgruntled. Sorry bout that, didn't mean to come off that way.
It's just that I've had android since cupcake and the longer I continue with android the more I realize one of my favorite parts is the expedited progression of it. Over the years I've become quite find of the updates. I guess you can say it's become something I look forward to. It's not that I loath this device by any means but my preference is leaning towards the update facet of it. The only logical conclusion to meet my happiness is climbing aboard the nexus train.
Why is the right door always locked?
That makes more sense.. I was like, whoa, this guy thinks the phone is awesome why is he jumping ship. LOL.
I think im in a unique position working in the wireless biz fixing / repairing them and buying and selling them. .
Im looking forward to my Note 2 getting 4.3. Im actually going to make it my daily phone for a week just to test it out again. My Nexus 4 was my daily phone as well till i put 4.3 on my HTC One.. Its a natural progression.
Now i see your whole statement in a different light, less angry and more hey time to try something different..
Nah.. not angry in the least. I think I'm just ready for a change of pace that's all.
Why is the right door always locked?
I'm curious because I feel like the tablet is running smoother but it could very well be my imagination. I'm going to be happy if battery life is somehow improved by the update.
Hopefully the chromecast crashing system UI bug
Edit; nope
Honestly?? I don't see any difference. I think peeps imagine things after an update.
I though the speed up was imaginary too so I did a post update video comparison with the tabPRO. Definitely sped up.
Sent from my SM-T700 using Tapatalk
No question the update sped up touchwiz and massively improved wifi streaming.
Video streaming such as YouTube is MUCH faster.
According to GSam I've been getting another 30min screen on time per charge since the update. Not sure if it's attributable to the update. Wifi is definitely better.
WiFi improved. The micro stutter with touch wiz is obsolete. Keep up the good work Samsung.
Battery feels like it is lasting longer to me. Keyboard entry feels a little laggier though. Could be the browser.
After update I lost like 20 apps.
I'm already rooted so I don't get updates. What update version is it? And what is the date of the update.

Short answer is yes. However, it will unroot your device whereby you will have to flash Beans cf_autoroot again.
Also Sammy may get knowledge that were rooted to start. Once you rooted, you tripped knox (thereby voiding your warranty) . We may get a way in the future to reset knox so that should you need service, you could flash back to stock and reset knox. With kies, sammy may record that knox was tripped and void your warranty, regardless of what you may do to it in the future.
Lastly, it will reinstall any bloat you may have deleted.
I went ahead and flashed it as I will be moving to Vietnam and nobody there ever checks knox, especially on top tier products.
