Glass screen protector finally available for XT1080 Droid Ultra/Droid Maxx

After exhausting most searches for a Glass screen protector, it looks like an ebay seller finally has one for our Droid Maxx/Ultra phones XT1080

Looking forward to your review! I'm running the Skinomi screen protector and it's been great so far but this is definitely something to look at after this one wears out.

I dont think that there should be one. Looking at other screen protectors, they only are
over the screen and are ending on both sides right before the glass gets round. I hope you understand what i am trying to say. The protector wont go completely to the edges. But i am looking forward to that test/review too.

Application: VERY easy to apply. I let it drop on to the phone and it was floating on the phone, letting me make minor adjustments to even out the sides. I followed the install tip of "touching the center of the phone to let the adhesive spread", which actually worked. There is a small <1mm border where the adhesive hasn't fully set. I am hoping that this sets fully over time-otherwise it will attract dust.
Coverage: It covers more than 100% of the active display but leaves about 5% of the Motorola glass uncovered. This is good for me, since I use a Diztronic TPU case, and screen protectors that are too close to the edges end up peeling with TPU covers.
HUGE improvement to image clarity, viewing angle, and feel. The whole phone seems to be higher resolution. 90% reduction in fingerprints/dirt/resistance. I am using 0.1% brightness using Gsam screen dimmer, and it looks so much brighter than before indoors!
Since only one manufacturer brought this XT1080 case to market, I'd have been happy even at a much higher price. I am ordering a few more for spares in case I ever need them and find them discontinued/unavailable.

Great find, though I am still a bit confused on what this product does.
Is this a screen protector or something else?
How does it make the display look better than the original?

Great find... I've been trying to find tempered glass for my Maxx for months. I ordered one of these for about $6 (dirt cheap!), and am liking it so far. I'm curious, though... Have the edges of your tempered glass adhered yet? Mine has been on for a few days, and the edges are still not grabbing completely. My Maxx lives in a Trident case (Kraken, I think), so the edges of the screen protector are pretty much covered. Just wasn't sure if there was any trick to the application that I missed...

After a week the top and bottom of mine never fully 'seated'. Doesn't affect the viewable part of the the screen but looks kinda crappy. Put the same product on an iPhone 5S and it went on completely correct from the start. Makes me wonder if it was me or the protector.

Since I have several, I took one off and applied a second due to the outer edges not making full contact. The manual refers to letting the 'adhesive spread', however there is no adhesive. It simply clings to the clean phone surface. I placed the first screen protector on the middle of my LCD monitor. totally clear all the way to the edges.
I think the Droid Maxx screen isn't 100% flat, perhaps as a result of the (LACK) of precision that led to both of my XT1080's having a terrible creaking noise on the side.
Despite this nuisance, I like the feel of the glass cover more every time I use it. I'm actually fearful of the Droid Turbo launch now--in case glass covers are not available on launch day.

$95? Presumably the seller jacked up the prices on these.... That's crazy. The privacy version is less than $10.

I went through some of the sellers feedback, noticed that some say it is plastic and not glass... I would think it's glass, so just wanted to make sure. Can anyone that purchased from this eBay seller confirm.
Also noticed the price decreased since it's under $6 shipped now.

It is definitely real tempered glass.... When I took my first one off, it took very little to crack it. the bottom layer touching the phone was the only thing keeping the pieces of glass held together at that point.
The XT1080, like the Droid Turbo, Note 4, and IPhone 6, have glass that curves at the edges. These rigid screen protectors don't fully attach at the edges causing a halo effect.
Companies have been revising their Note4 designs to address this but they are basically just making the screen covers smaller with more of the screen uncovered.

To be honest, I wasn't planning to create a separate review thread for this tempered glass protector after I confirmed that it has "halo" effect along the edges where it didn't stick to the screen of Note 4. As most of you already aware, Note 4 screen is slightly curved toward the edges and as a result a thicker screen protector, such as tempered glass, will not be able to flex and stick to that part of the screen. As a matter of fact, even some of the film screen protectors have problem with that, and I see some manufacturers pre-cutting them to cover only the display portion of the screen. Hopefully a robust solution will be available soon, but what do we do in a meantime?
I thought I will wait and see until a week after getting my Note 4 I discovered a small hairline scratch on a screen of my brand spanking new phone with Gorilla 3 glass. That quickly changed my mind and I figured to apply Zerolemon tempered glass protector while I'm waiting for a better solution. I didn't buy it and received it as a review sample in exchange for my honest opinion about it. But for $8.99 I think it worth every penny even as a temporary solution. Here is why.
Beside the low price, this is actually high quality tempered glass protector offering a typical 9H hardness rating, rounded edges, high glass clarity like original display, the same touch screen sensitivity for both finger touch and s-pen touch, and oleophobic coating to minimize fingerprints (which actually works quite well). And even so it has the same feeling like an original display glass, it feels less slippery when sliding your finger. The only problem, it doesn't stick to the edges and you can see this so called "halo" effect which is visible only with a black background. I demonstrated in my pictures below how it looks in both cases.
Also, I had no problem using it with my UAG Maverick case where the top of the glass protector doesn't even touch the bumper of the case, and the bottom of the glass protector goes underneath of it. I'm typically very anal about screen protector installation and will not allow a single speck of dust, so halo effect is not acceptable by my standards. But to be honest I had this screen protector since yesterday and totally forgot about those edges while enjoying a bit more of carefree tossing of my phone in the pocket.
Oh, and forgot to mention the most important part - installation took literally less than a minute. I used included alcohol wipe to clean the screen. Then, removed a protective film from a "sticky" part of the glass and laid it down pushing air bubbles out with my thumb after application. Of course, make sure you are working in dust-free area and have you hands washed with soap before starting. Though no specific instruction was included with this protector, if you don't have previous experience, just look up videos on YT.

I have the UAG MAVERICK also and mine went under the case on the top and bottom left corners. I guess it's the way you align it. Either way it's a nice piece of glass but the huge halo and going under the case on the corners I did not like. So I took it off and put the xtreme Spartan on. Smaller than the LG but less halo and doesn't go under case. So I am keeping that one on until something better comes along.

The halo is ginormous, even by my standards (I'm not extremely picky) and I was worried maybe my screen curve was more than everybody elses'. But, seeing your, I guess not. The help around the home button, for me, is particularly disconcerting. Anyhow, I'm using it despite the ugly halo, until we can get some curved glass. I do like the fact that it covers almost the whole screen. It's smooth and high quality.

Holy cow. Mine is nowhere near that size; even vectron has a slightly larger halo than mine. I'm guessing I really just managed to hit the sweet spot, because my halo is pretty thin, and frankly, since my Verus has a lip, I'm not too worried. It is, after all, really just security for if it somehow lands face first, and the edges aren't important if that happens.
I still can't believe they haven't figured out how to deal with the curve, though. If our screen is glass and curved, why can't they manufacture a tempered glass piece that has a slight curve as well? Seems ridiculous to me.
Now, if I can just find a dock that will allow a Verus case....
EDIT: Try putting something very heavy on the front of your phone overnight to see if that might finally make it adhere, for those who have this problem? I know I tried that with my old Note 2, when I accidentally bent a corner up (and yes, apparently it is possible to do so), and so I set a thick glass skull on the corner overnight. It helped quite a bit, actually. It didn't completely go flat, but it definitely lessened the problem.

[review] Whitestone Dome for the Pixel 2

I know it's been out a while, but I didn't see much discussion about them I'm the screen protector thread. I received some samples for the Pixel 2 Dome Glass and got it installed last week. I've been using one on my Pixel 2 XL since it launched, but up until now had been using an intelliarmour in the Pixel 2. While the glass was good, it did not cover the full display. This created an annoyance when swiping from the edge.
There are several installation videos out there that I would encourage you to watch if you've never installed a protector with loca before. It can be quite intimidating, and I have to admit when I did my 2XL I was very nervous, but Whitestone has made the process fairly foolproof and the second time around was much easier with nerves out of the equation. Still, I messed up and opened the wrong end of the loca so don't get too over-confident! Thankfully I had the tube positioned over the display when I opened it, so it all dumped out roughly where it was supposed to go anyway.
As for performance, this is as good as it gets. These protectors are expensive, but I've never used a protector this good and the loca application means that you shouldn't have any lifting. Halo is non-existent. The glass is maybe smoother than naked, and the oleophobic coating is second to none. I realize the cost will be prohibitive to some, but if you can swing it I wouldn't waste my money on anything else.
The protector is flat and covers the entire display, but is not edge to edge. With more minimalistic cases there can be a bit of a gap where dust can collect, but it also means that it should work with any case out there. Be advised that for the first week or so the edges will be super dusty as residual loca will grab any and every piece of dust, but this goes away. I found that a good wipedown of the edges between the primary and secondary curing helps miminize this.

I am in the same boat as you, I had the IQshield film screen protector and it served me well till I buckled down and bought the Whitestone dome for the Pixel 2.
Honestly the instructions were difficult at first and had to watch a couple install video before I felt confident in doing it.
Install went perfectly and I have to say the purchase is well worth the price. It's just visually beautiful and the olephobic coating is amazing! The screen visually looks Soo much more sharper than before!

I know this is old thread but clearly in the pics lint and whatever else is sticking to the adhesive just like my $10.00 TG screen protector. Looks ugly and would annoy me.

[REVIEW] UltimateShield Tempered Glass Screen Protector OP7 Pro

This will be a short review which hopefully helps OP7 Pro owners wether they should buy the tempered glass protector from Ultimate Shield or not. Please take your time and read the whole review

This might be the time to add that Ultimate Shield did not tell me to write this, I bought the screen protector because I have used their OP5 tempered glass in the past and was satisfied with that one. In case the pictures don't show on your screen, I've attached them in a zip file down below.
What do you get?
For £11.99 (~14€ / ~15$) and free worldwide you get one screen protector, instructions, dust removal stickers (which I forgot when taking the picture), a microfiber cloth and a wet cloth.
I bought it because I wanted a tempered glass screen protector which is curved so I can protect the whole display including the curved edges.

What about applying it?
The instructions are basically useless, since we're dealing with a screen protector which sticks to the phone with the adhesive side, so no bubbles, no "vacuum" or anything like that, as long as the display has been cleaned before nothing can go wrong, just make sure that the side slim black bar is alined with the top of the phone. Oh and you should remove the preapplied screen protector before putting this one on the display. After that it is important to apply preassure on the border of the screen protector to make it stick, and this is where things get critical, at least that is what happened to me. Even though it looks like I've prefectly placed the glass on top of the display some parts of the protector simply won't stick, or at least stick for a few minutes. I have added some photos where you can see a tiny gap. Keep in mind that I have applied A LOT of pressure on those parts, more than enough. The screen protector has rounded corners and a curved edge, it covers about 99 percent of the display.
What about colours and sharpness of the display with the screen protector?
After applying the screen protector I haven't noticed any kind of weird colour shifting or rainbow effect. It still looks as sharp as before, but due to reflections the edge of the display has some minor rainbow effect. I only notice that at a specific angle and when the background is white. Oh and it doesn't seem to cut off any part of the screen.
What about the fingerprint reader?
After deleting the old fingerprints and adding new ones with the screen protector applied the fingerprint scanner works 99/100 times, it might take a split second longer than without it, but I didn't have any issues.
What about the touchscreen and gestures?
This is where I got frustrated. After using the phone with the tempered glass I instantly noticed that the touchscreen wasn't as responsive as it was before. "alright", I said to myself, "It is completely normal that it feels different now". Unfortunately this is why I would personally not buy this screen protector again. I had to apply more pressure than ususal when tapping on an icon and so on. Sometimes the touchscreen didn't register even though my finger clearly touched the glass. This was very annoying when using the keyboard, in almost every sentence at least one or two characters where simply missing because the touchscreen wasn't as responsive as before. Same story with gestures, you need a lot more pressure and when swping up or down in order to open the app drawer or notifications it sometimes works but sometimes it takes up to three tries in order to get the gesture to work. In comparison, without the tempered glass screen protector I had no issues at all.
SUMMERY
Applying it was easy but when I did it it didin't stick as good as I hoped it would. The tempered glass screen protector doesn't really change colours, which is a good thing. THe touchscreen experience was comparable with one of those older smartphones where you had to use more force and it wasn't as accurate. Overall, I can not recommend it for the price, unless you use the touchscreen with a lot of force. If you think that I didn't apply it correctly feel free to "call me out" in the comment section and tell me how you would have done it.
UPDATE
Since the tempered glass didn't stick very well anyway I went ahead and carefully removed it and moved it about 1mm downward. Unfortunately the touchscreen is still not responsive enough to use the keyboard without any issues which is why I contacted Ultimate Shield directly via Email. (still waiting for them to reply)
FINAL UPDATE
They answered and after looking at the images I send them they said that it might be faulty because according to them the black adhesive should stick much better than it did in my case. They were kind enough to give me a refund! If you bought one and had a much better experience please tag me so I can quote your opinion!

Probably, I think my application was good, I guess the adhesive can't do the job when it comes to the curved edges...

Too bad OP didn't release one at launch. I assume they will down the road like they did with the 6T.

Cus it's curved usually only decent one for a curve is white stone

Well the 7 is just the 6T, so they just have to update the packaging

Well the flap of the protective foil that was on the the glass was probably the indicator.
That and the fact that the bottom part of teh black frame was way wider than the upper part...
About 2mm of black adhesive on the buttom and 1mm on the top...
EDIT:
It wouldn't make sense to aline the the thicker black line with the thin bezel

I've ordered same protector for delivery tomorrow, getting the phone today so I'll give it a go, how is it with cases or have you not checked? I've ordered the Ringke Fusion-X too so would hope they'll work together.
Watched this video of the PureGear protector, from XDA fave TK Bay, which looks mucho pricey but seems to play nicely with, at least, official cases.

the glass doen't fully the cover the display, there's about 1 to 1.5mm between the tempered glass and the frame of the phone, I can use the transparent TPU case that came with the phone without any problems

Thank you for your review. I currently have a film on my screen now. I was thinking about purchasing a tempered glass shield for my 7 pro especially since T-Mobile has the Puregear one on sale for 10 bucks off (if I'm not mistaking) but I'm not sure.

I actually ordered the same tempered glass,but I noticed that it wasnt clear and that the black outline on the edges was the adhesive. It doesn't truly embrace the curved screen, but you can use it for the back of your phone. I glued to the back of my 7 Pro with the clear case on. Your phone will look like a beast

Got one too. Install was super easy but like said in OP, sensitivity gets way worse. I would not recommend.

The screen of my 7Pro looks like new. I never used a screen protector. Just the sandstone hardcase for the back.

So there's a poll in progress that I started on another website, and I wanted to broaden the scope of it by gathering the experiences of XDA's users. Kinda goes without saying, but the poll option wording was crafted to very vaguely capture how long someone's owned their Fold (ANY GENERATION), and how the screen's held up. If you've got a couple seconds, go there and let me know how your experience.
I want this to spread all over the popular tech communities where Z Fold owners are... maybe this catches fire, maybe it gets a couple votes and fades into obscurity... but I wanna try.

well mine I had for about a month and a half now I haven't had issues but sometimes half the screen has delayed part i don't know if it a software thing or my screen but it seems fine works good I use a rugged casemate case to protect it which helps a lot since the phone is still kinda fragile I can say the screen has improved as for the toughness of it bc I had a z flip 1st gen I loved it never had issues with it I hope my screen doesn't go bc I would have to wait on Samsung but so far I love the phone but wished the cams was better but they do what I need it to do but one thing to keep your fingernails cut bc if you don't it will dent the screen even if don't realize it now the battery life has improved on android 12 I do say that bc I was only getting about 9 hours of heavy useage now im getting about 12 to 14 hours which is good but I dont charge my phone full as it degrades the battery as time goes and what did you have issues with your z fold 3 ? and you should post on reddit to on the z fold 3 communities on there bc there is people that have had screen cracks and all that but all i gotta say is keep the phone clean thats does help alot and its does keep the dirt and micro dirt from gettiing into the phone i always use air duster but i go at a angle at the hinge area and just be careful and i havent had anyhting get into my phone as of this time of me typing this out but good thing this phone is alot more durable since they add water resistant but i hope this help and also when cleaning the outer and inner screens always use a micro fiber towel and a lens cleaner or screen cleaner its does help it stay cleaner and helps with finger prints but i do highly recommend this case for any z fold 3 owner https://case-mate.com/products/tough-black-plus-galaxy-z-fold3-5g

I've had my GZF3 since release and have had no problem at all. I replaced the outer screen protector with Whitestone tempered glass. I removed the inner screen protector.

I have had mine since a couple weeks after release (shipping delays) and I am STILL on the ORIGINAL factory installed screen protectors on BOTH screens and the ONLY issue I have is that there is a slight scratch on the inner screen that is 100% MY FAULT.
Otherwise, perfectly fine here.

Received mine Oct 6 last year. Inner screen still intact with factory screen protector. I alternate using fingers and SPen Pro on it. Outer screen had a small cut when I was changing cases before so I have a Ringke tempered glass on it. Other than that it's all good

Since November 1st. No issues. Both factory installed protectors still holding up. Been in the Aramid Latercase since day 1. Inner screen looks perfect.
One thing I've noticed in the past few days is the effort to fold and unfold seems less. Like it's broken in? Not loose like a TransAM with 100K miles mind you, but just a bit smoother. And completely silent.
With the colder weather I've been resistant to open the phone up if it has been sitting on the seat of my truck. Been getting used to that skinny outer screen.

i've had mine since August 2021; original screen protector still on the inner screen, no cracks and no other issues.

A bit off topic but may I see a photo of the phone with the tempered glass installed? I'm looking for a tempered glass that is case friendly and coincidentally, ringke is in the list.

I've had my Fold 3 for 4 months now .. 2 months into it I opened it up and heard Crack Crack crack.... ohhhhh noooo.. Ended up was only the screen protector it came with was peeling up from the crease. Ended up taking it off and all been well with the screen. No issues so far. Been using the cheap out of it everyday cause I'm still off work. Thinking of getting getting another screen protector for the inside but for now both screens are raw dogging it lol....

Likewise! I wish I'd have recorded me doing this, but when I got the raised corners everyone in the reviews talked about, I hit the corners with a heat gun and they were gone in under a minute.
I like to rock my phones with nothing but a skin on the back, and a tempered glass screen protector... but my skin's started lifting, so I at least have to find a thin clear case that plays nice with the dome.
