How to Copy Google Pixel Camera algorithm & Software into Xiaomi mi 5s?

Is it possible to copy the algorithm of Google pixel camera and install it in Xiaomi mi 5s? Because both have exactly same sensors. As I have seen the reviews of Xiaomi mi 5s, there is a room for improvement in the software. Specially night shots need improvement. So is there any way to copy pixel's algorithm and software into mi 5s?

In the future? Who knows, I hope so too...
We might (or might not) need to copy some libraries from pixel's system image, and probably must use the included google camera (which requires android 7.0 for now...)

Why not replace the crappy dual camera of 5s plus with dual imx378? Is it possible? I am really curious to do something with these phones.

Not possible because of so many things...
- There's likely no drivers for IMX378 included in the kernel/system by xiaomi for Mi5s Plus
- You must have to somehow find dual IMX378 module with the same pin configuration as the original one for it to even turn on (won't work if there's no driver for it though...)

It would be redundant, the 5s plus uses a normal sensor with a monochrome sensor, similar to P9, and this allows (should) better lowlight, and higher dynamic range, however from samples I've seen, Xiaomi has not implemented it very well. They would have been better off with one 378 sensor, as that is currently one of the best mobile sensors

Yes, and I think I've already answered that. Pixel runs android 7.1, Mi5s runs 6.0, you can't get the camera app that comes with pixel to run on mi5s, and if you manage to backport that to android 6.0, what if it needs some library, can you make sure that it is can run on android 6.0, while it is built for android 7.1?
Moreover, I found out the hard way that Mi5s did not specify it's HFR modes, so the latest Google Camera that is compatible with android 6.0 won't run at all. Except if you turn the HFR functionality off, by adding this line to your build.prop:

I don't know if this bug comes from xiaomi, or xiaomi.eu (as I am running xiaomi.eu's ROM right now), and I don't know if it's gonna be fixed in the future.
You're welcome to pursue this idea, but keep that things in mind

Since Google's HDR+ is so good in low light, has anyone tried alternative 3rd party apps that use image stacking to improve low light IQ ( Better Camera and Snap HDR Cam low light modes come to mind)
I am interested in this phone because of the price and sensor and would like an HDR+ alternative.
Has anyone tried those apps? Thanks

Try cortex camera, it basically is the best app at stacking images.

Hi, thanks for the information about google camera. Any possibility that we can have settings like manual iso, or hdr (just normal hdr) ? Is it exclude to nexus devices, I mean after hacking still? How about the snapdragon camera, it seems that we need caf kernel, but maybe it's working after adding this line?

We already have manual controls, just use snap cam and enable cam 2 api in it's settings, or use FreeDcam and you get full manual

That's true, I'm just curious if google has better post processing (now I think an app won't change much) If apps can't change, is it possible to copy the drivers from pixel, if the sensors are the same? Meanwhile, we don't have iso 50 (although maybe the native iso is 100, so 100 might be better than 50). Freedcam seems to be able to enable eis on camera api 1, but it crashed a lot, and it's api 1. Now I'm confused which is the best choice. I'm using snap camera, but there's no long exposure like the stock camera (up to 32s, I think it's a stack of photos). Sorry I asked a lot, but it seems that you are an expert . Last question, the stock camera in manual mode, the preview never changes while changing iso/shutter speed. I guess Google's HDR+ algorithm is the only great thing the Pixel has we don't besides that fact they don't have long exposure so they can't take as good night pics as us.
In camera 1 Api we can go all the way to 60 sec, although stock libs limited at 32 sec which is fine. Also we do have ISO 50 on FreeDcam API 2, I think I have a specially built FreeDcam by @defcomg who sorted it out. I'll ask him if I he or I can post it here.
Also Quallcomm seemed to mess up the camera libs recently and max exposure on cam 2 api is only around 5 sec.
But I suggest you to experiment with Snap and FreeDcam, I use FreeDcam for long exposures and low light shots. And I use snap camera in the day time. I have denoise and ZSL forced off for both of them.
The preview should get slow and laggy on cam 2 api but stay the same on Cam 1 api

I tried freedcam with 50 iso, but the photo actually got iso 100 still. You can also set iso 50 in snap camera, which still outputs 100.
Turn ZSL (0 lag?) is better for HDR? I heard a saying that ZSL is not as good as longer hdr, which is software implementation.

When zsl is enabled you can't have manual controls, so that's why I disable it. But also try in FreeDcam (cam 1) to set shutter speed and leave ISO on auto and see, it's possible to get up to 0 ISO.

cam 1 you mean Camera api 1? It crash a lot (every time I touch to focus, or use exposure longer than 1/3s ). I couldn't got iso lower than 100. Do I need to use hdr mode to get this or any mode as long as I set iso to auto and a long shutter?

No you just use primary lens RGB.

Well it's a good place to start. If anyone is able to work on this to get the latest Google Camera working, or at least 5.1 that would be amazing.

Need to root?

To have real HDR+ to work you must have check mark in the dot/circle next to HDR+ icon.
We don't have this check mark when we choose HDR+ ON.
I think that real HDR+ processing ia not present now.
Testing the camera now on my P10 Plus, but there is a lor of noise and seems HDR+ is not working really with image stacking and all...

I'ts have hdr+, its faster becose it use 4 pictures to get 1 pic, not 10 like Pixel phones, becose of algoritam 4 diferent scenes of lighting.

Hmm I don't think this is actually producing any HDR pics. There is no difference in file sizes or any other data between two photos taken with and without HDR+ turned on

Yes, I noticed that too, makes no sense that HDR+ is working when the sizes are the same of pics after HDR+ is completely ON and OFF. Not only that is a sign it is not working, but as I said the check mark inside the circle is a real indication when HRD+ is turned on. Here HDR+ ON icon doesn't change with a check mark- this is the sign that HDR+ is activated.
On top of that there is so much noise in pics and no detail.
I have seen a friends Mi5s Plus with working HDR+ Mod and I tested it extensively and I know the behavior of HDR+ and the kind pictures it produces.
I hope that this mod will get better soon, it looks promising!

HDR+ needs Oreo to work.
Im waiting for update on P9 to test it. For now no difference comparing to native camera app.

root: It works on my Oreo P10 without root.
HDR+: I don't see any difference in the images if I check HDR+ on sv HDR+ off. So it does not seem to work.
Nevertheless, Photo Sphere is working which is good.

The best part of this APK is it does not crash except may be Slow Motion. For all others pic quality is good at least we may a working APK which can be improved over time.

There is not gonna be any update, chipset algoritam not allowing any changes, so this is the farest I get with app.

Thanks OP. It works great. No crash yet. The rear and front cam portrait work good and way faster compare to gcam mods on my old S8+.
The night option shows a bank screen.

I tried as well. The regular HDR+ shots handle light sources much better than the current 6T stock hdr. Taking a picture of a dark room with a television with text (high contrast) but putting the focus point below on a dark object, 6T stock cam blows out the picture onscreen, where as pixel cam port keeps the text legible. I have the same issue as well, with Nightsight on the port just rendering a black screen in the viewfinder and locking the app. Great first start though, massive potential here, maybe oneplus dev's could decompile and take a few pointers

And use AR CORE application? I want to buy this phone but I will wait until camera performance will be equal to pixel (I can't root my device because of bank application and other app that does not work with root or unlocked bootloader)

How long does it take to snap a shot in HDR+ Enhanced on the OP6t? I had the gcam port on my OP5, and that phone always took a good 3 seconds to actually take the picture once I tapped on the shutter button.

Less than a second.
This app shows that the camera hardware OnePlus is using is way better than the stock camera app software is letting it be.
The camera on the OnePlus could be great with better stock software.

Well ar stickers works just fine
However I am not able to use Marvel stickers and playground 2.0

Pretty cool to use once installed. The selfie camera in regular and portrait mode is 10x better. Still use nightmode on my stock 6T camera of course and the regular camera on the back is much better through this pixel app.
Few things though: The camera will take a photo and sometimes crash when you go to look at the image and the photo doesn't save. No biggie because this is happening to Pixel 3 users lol. The other things is, I don't know if any of you have taken time to notice, but the portrait mode on the back camera doesn't work from what I can tell and a few of my friends with extensive photography knowledge said they felt the same way when examining this. We took multiple photos with the regular back camera and the portrait mode back camera and the focus was the exact same, but because it's focus on the object is so strong it might appear like it's blurring out the background. Also, not sure if this proves my point, but these cameras will save both the regular photo and the portrait mode photo to give you the options which only happens when I take a selfie in portrait mode, but not on the back camera in portrait mode. Anyone else experiencing this issue? Thanks for the hard work guys, this is still great!

Here are three different photos, first one taken on my Pixel 3 XL, second one taken on my OnePlus 6T with the Pixel camera port, third one taken on my OnePlus 6T with the stock camera app.
To large to add all three to one post so here are the Pixel 3 XL and OnePlus 6T using the Pixel camera app. I'll add the photo taken with the stock Oneplus camera app in the next post.

This one installs and opens but the quality is bad, understandable since the port is too old.
The cyanogenmod website one doesn't open (crashes after the permissions). https://www.cyanogenmods.org/galaxy-note-10-lite-google-camera-apk/

Do you see the color bleed? All the purple flowers bled like this in my recent trip photos!

Yes, I am using it on my Note 10 Lite running on OneUI 2.0. It works, but I don't remember if it needs some change in settings to show the view finder properly.

I got significantly better images than the original camera using the Gcam port available on this website: https://koopahtmaniac.com/
However I couldn't get the front camera to work for photos, however it worked for videos.

It's just modern looking only the ui is updated, it's no better then gcam5 in terms of pic, idk about the video part, and video for front camera didn't work for me, front camera isn't being detected by the app?
And nightime is better on stock camera.

The issue of poor performance of GCam ports on Samsung devices is more related to the use of Exynos processors than the brand itself. I had a Galaxy S9 (snap 845) and the GCam performance available to it was excellent. However, the fact that Samsung keeps the device drivers closed is something that certainly gets in the way.

On Andorid 11, tried gcam it didn't even open and the stock camera stopped working too. Uninstalling the gcam got it to work after a reboot. It has a horrible camera, the reviews are either paid for or were made by fanboys. Any wayaround?

ZGcam somewhat works. Does anyone have a specific config for Note 10 Lite?

Ive tried several versions of Gcam and didnt use. I always find better resoults with stock cam.

I saw this article yesterday on a new version of the Google camera from the new Pixel 6 that works on my Note 20 Ultra (snapdragon). Link to the apk is in this article below. Gizchina.com: How to download and install Google Pixel 6 camera app on other smartphones.

Haven't had time to play around with it much yet but first picture is with the gcam, 2nd with my regular Note camera app. Don't see much difference, but maybe in better lighting...

Works on exynos also, exept for the 10x and bigger zoom so telescopic camera is useless.

I installed the 10/31/2021 release from BSG on my Note 20 Ultra - N986U1 (Snapdragon) on One UI 3.1 (Android 11) and it seems to work well.
Heck, it might be the most stable Google Camera Port I've used.
The front-facing camera doesn't work for pictures (thanks Samsung) but it does work for recording video.
Besides that, all the other modes I've briefly tested seem to work.

Thanks for sharing this link! Am waiting to see if anyone in the S21 (Regular) group has tried this with success... Just curious, on your Ultra model - are you able to use some of the newer features such as Motion, Face Unblur, Magic Eraser?

I believe there is a config file for samsung you need or a stting you have to change. I had the same problem when I installed it on my s21 ultra, the camera froze. Also the eraser feature was missing. I tried installing the google photos using Split APKs Installer but no luck. Would love to know if anyone using a samsung got these feature to work.

I've tried this on my Note 20 Ultra Exynos and have the same experience where the camera freezes and app closes, if anyone had any advice on how to fix or help I would really appreciate, this could be such a great camera app

This completely broke my camera for all apps.
Had to restart my phone several times to get the camera to work again.

Seems that it doesn't work for me. When I click the shoot button doesn't save anything. Shows some black pictures, which also can't be found in the gallery app.

This gcam has been working flawlessly for months on my Note 20 Ultra snapdragon. Takes sharper pictures overall than stock app, especially of my dog

Looks like better dynamic range, I have been using a previous GCAM version with great success (especially night time photography on a tripod), but I think I'll give this one a try. Thanks!

I've been using this GCAM version for awhile and it's stable and works fine on my Note 20 Ultra. Definitely takes better pictures indoors of my dog and a little better dynamic range. Nice alternative to stock camera app for some pix.

I also have a note 20 Ultra and I want to know if you're using an XML file so that I can use the other camera lenses let me know how to enable my telephoto in my wide angle?
