Since my post count is so low I have to start a new thread for this, sorry about that.
I just installed the ICS Beta III
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1343361
A half hour later or so I get an email from Google 'Welcoming me to my Galaxy Nexus'.
Has this happened to anyone else???
Did you happen to wander into the about section and click on system updates?

Nope, I flashed the ROM then downloaded a couple of apps from the Market as I was doing that I got the email.
All the links go to Google. I am just wondering is it something buried in the ICS code. Once you log on with your Google account it sends out a standard email to the account.
I don't really want to bother any of the dev's with it. They have enough to worry about right now without someone hassling them about something that is not that important in the grander sceme of things.
It's because the galaxy nexus is the only ICS Device with release codes for market so far. That will disappear once a more similar HTC device is released with ICS and we have a broader selection of release codes to choose from. Earlier beta's ran on test codes. They can be changed in build.prop.
Cheers man. I just could not understand it since it did not happen when I flashed the 1st and 2nd beta roms.
Thanks for posting this MrBC I also got this email and was curious about it.
I got this email as well MrBC...
Of course they can track what ROM use are using to browse android market. For example, I have recently update to Android revolution 2.3.5 and now not able to install few app which I used to have earlier on stock ROM 2.3.4.
I also got this
just ignore it lol
what i wondered was if it thinks we have a nexus why can we still not see some android apps lol
It's still beta so there are plenty of bugs. Its possible that there is a framework bug, or some component is missing. Then there is still the fact the a lot of apps on market are listed as not compatible with ICS. I'd expect it to take until 2012 before we have a fully functioning ROM and a fully working market.

Don't install the new Apex Launcher update until you've read the long list of reviews posted on the Playstore. *Everyone* is having FC issues. I hope this excellent launcher gets fixed soon.
It seems that the beta version of 1.3 (not available on the Playstore) was working fine for everyone, but the release version is apparently seriously broken. So until it's repaired, which will probably be soon, it's best to take a pass on the update.
Edit: See message #6 for a link to the working beta if you need it. (Thank you, jaidenwarren). The beta does work with the Pro license if you have it.
Edit 2: Reviews are now saying that the FC problem has been fixed.
Thanks for the heads up. But I recommend everyone uses beta version. Never any issues with them.

Yep, took down both Nexus phones here, one running JB and one running ICS. Luckily I had a backup on my JB one, my partner's phone wasn't so lucky.
Anyone having the force closes just reinstall the beta version if you were on one.

Well, I'm sure the Apex developer has woken up to a nightmare scenario this morning. I'm a little surprised that the Playstore page hasn't at least reverted to the old version until the new one is fixed. Must have his hands full at the moment.
If, like me, you have Apex set up as the default launcher and stock launcher removed, the update can sort of soft-brick your phone. I had to restore a nandroid to get my phone back, like some others.

You can adb push a launcher into /system/app/ and it'll ask you what launcher you want to use.

And the version pushed out to the Play Store is newer than beta6.
That is why you always read the comments before updating an app
(unless you have auto-update enabled)

I know the version pushed to the store is newer than beta, but it is the latest beta seeing how the play store pushed a stable version. Correct?
Tap'd period........

Just checked and apparently the broken Apex update has been fixed. At least that's what the reviews are saying now. Haven't tested it personally. Incidentally, it now wants more permissions (read call log).
Take a look at the one-star-review bar on the Apex Playstore page. It jumped from nearly invisible to very substantial overnight! Every dev's nightmare.
I can confirm that the latest version in the Play Store is now working.
it's been fixed and is now smoother than ever!
OK, thanks, guys.
That was pretty fast work by the Apex dev(s). About 12 hours from broken to fixed. Not bad.
Yeah, the update this morning killed it for me but the update I got later today made it all better
Don't update using the web downloader just tried it and every time I tried to go to home it fc. Then I updated on Google play and it fixed it.

The official Sony Playstation site tells a slightly different story,
The One X, S, and the rest will have the playstation app included in the jellybean update. Or to quote Sony "Playstation support on HTC phones is rolling out with Android 4.1 and above upgrades, timing of which is subject to regional and operator circumstances"
It specifically calls out the One V as "playstation support will arrive as part of a larger update, details to be announced later on".
So, obviously HTC has informed Sony the One V is NOT getting jelly bean as this new update is well, new.
I am hoping the "larger update" will include a newer version of sense for us, or a "value pack" but who knows. We could also see HTC decide it was a mistake including the One V and ask Sony to quietly remove it from the list of certified devices.
When the update comes, you will have two new icons in the app drawer. The "PSM" icon and a "let's start PSM" which will help you set up a playstation account if you don't already have one.
Yes, there are "hacks" to make it work on any rooted device, but seeing as we have a playstation certified device we will not have to worry about manually updating the darn thing all the time.
All this info is available on the Sony site guys, and is being updated continually. I do not have any kind of inside info, I just know how to use google!!!!
Cheers,

PlayStation App. Been using it for a couple weeks now. It works fine, although I DIDNT buy anything yet. I'm using the mod from Development section.
Guys what is the advantage on other phones on being PlayStation certified

Well, easy........updates.
It's like getting google now on an ICS ROM with flashable zips. Your version is as current as the version the zip was based on. When google brings out new features, you have to wait for a new zip, and flash again when or if it becomes available. Kinda, but not really like "pirating" an app. Updates depend on someone other than the first party. Being "playstation certified" means, when Sony chooses to update the PSM app (done twice already) certified phones will recieve the update right away, phones with modded versions will have to wait for the dev to re-mod the app, or,worse....an update could close the hack used to install it on non-certified devices. This is something we will not have to worry about.

gratz... i guess?
whats the point of this post? are you trying to tell us there is a new update to the launcher? are you saying you modded/hacked the launcher itself or made an edit to the build.prop to enable it? or have you simply used the search function and are telling us that procedures that are described in other (device-)forums/threads work for the 5x as well?
just wondering since in my opinion this is an option that would certainly make the experience with the 5x a little more fluent without using a third party launcher.
There was an update to the launcher and its the most glorious day of my ****ing life. Lonmg have i awaited the landscape mode in the google now launcher
Your welcome F.....s
What is the launcher version? I have 1.3.large and it tells me it's the latest. No rotation here..

from what i could find, it's actually not an update to the launcher, but rather the google app through which the launcher settings are managed.
my version (without landscape) is 5.7.14.19.arm64, the latest slowly being rolled out is 5.8.47.19.arm64.
could be wrong though.
anyway, my actual launcher version is the same as yours, and as far as i can see there were no updates of that pushed to the playstore. oh the waiting game.

oh that's cool, i wasn't aware they finally allowed this.
Been using Nova but I'll enable it on my SOs phone
Thank you and Google ! I was looking for this feature for ages
Easier way to get rotation is to become a Google tester. The version that it will allow you to download has the allow rotation option.
hi everyone ,,,
I want to share my experience with this phone, the hardware is very good but the software is S***, waited for 1st update 3 months, and nothing fixed, second update 3 months and nothing is fixed, ( unexpected crashes, recent app windows lagging very badly, contacts don't show names in miss calls).
contacted support more than once, they don't have any understanding of any issue its like an auto message that tells you to wait for the next update and they don't have any schedule when the update will be released.
we are in Jan 2022 and my latest update is android 11 , October security patch.
I would not recommend this phone for anyone, don't make the mistake that I did.
I am selling this phone ASAP.
Thank you

I agree that this phone hardware is a beast ! The software unfortunately is really bad especially i came from iOS which everybody knows how good they are with their softwares and updates. I already know that these kinds of android phone maker won't have software support as good as S*msung, let alone Ap*le.
However to be honest i don't have all the problems mentioned in your posts other than occasional Nubia launcher crashing (so i switched to using Niagara Launcher). There are lots of third party modification on playstore which can run great thanks to this phone beastly hardware. So i guess i can live with it.
Have you tried installing Global ROM (any one other than the one came with the phone when you buy it)
They dropped new update for EU Rom, i hope NA & Asia ROM gets an update too asap.
Edit**
Nvm update v427 for NA and Asia is available. Gonna try install it.
