Can you guys spot the difference in quality? One is taken with the modded Google camera and the other with Open camera. Can you guys tell me which is which? I know this isn't the best picture or best visual representation, I'll try to take better pictures when I find better examples, one does make a huge difference over the other though.
second is gcam
I have guessing games but the second one is the better photo.
One with stock Moto cam would be good too.
The second is most definitely a better picture, the way I see it if you look at the steering wheel you'll see some obvious color differences, the second is more full in color, if you look at the number pad in the lower right the second looks sharper. I say no matter what app it will always take good pictures in day light, night time/dark scenes are a different story though. This was using an 8.1 rom. The first picture is using the Google camera app the second is actually open camera with the camera2 API enabled and in DRO mode. I believe due to hardware limitations we'll never see true hdr+, but this is still pretty good imo. I've noticed also since 8.1 all my other apps that use the camera such as Snapchat have also greatly improved in camera quality.

So if all it takes is a camera2 API to be enabled, I can have the exact same results on any 7.1 based ROMs too, right?

Possibly, from past experience the camera2 API never worked correctly on older ROMs, I didn't have to enable the API in 8.1 just enable the feature in open camera.

Ok, my turn!
One of these was taken with the stock camera using Defcomg's chromatix mod. The other with the 32-bit Google HDR+ v4.2.

Second definitely looks much nicer, I'm guessing chromatix? How well does it perform in low light situations?
It's actually the Google camera hdr+. Apparently aside from extending the DR, it has some magic sauce for creating a contrasty and sharp image. The raw out of this camera doesn't look that good.
Chromatix mod makes the camera look "normal" in all other modes (ie, Snapchat and AR apps no longer have that "ghosted' sharpening thing making it ugly). Even stock app looks better. So now it's on par with other similar class camera phones, but something about the HDR+ algorithm is just magic.

That's why I have and use both. Chromatix mod makes the stock processing bearable, and gcam is when there is something print worthy that's worth the effort. Also, I'm a photographer who shoots manual focus lenses and I've got kids, I know how to work under pressure spontaneously for a good shot.
So if I understand you correctly, were you able to get both Chromatix and GCam working simultaneously? I had read that the stock camera doesn't work on Oreo and moreover Chromatix only worked on the stock ROM. If not may I ask which ROM are you using?

True but the Gcam does have working autofocus as well as higher quality HDR+ under the Oreo ROMs now so I was wondering if I could throw Chromatix also into the mix
And even libmm for killer low light video

I love to take photos, and I dont have a digital camera (I dont even know if it would be any better than my phones) so I use my phone. I used to have a problem with my camera taking blurry pictures when not in sunlight, but figured out what ISO is and fixed the problem.
My new problem is that my pictures seem to have a grainy feel to them. Its like little blue green and red dots all over, and it annoys me. Im wondering if theres a way to fix that or an explanation.
Are you able to post a pic that you've taken with the camera? I've noticed when taking pictures things can be grainy if I take a really up close shot of something, but I think that's because there is no macro-mode (like most SLRs and Point-and-Click cameras have). But when I take a normal picture with it everything comes across really smooth.
I guess

Edit: i think i solved the problem myself. I think it happens in low light situations.

It almost looks as if the camera is out of focus. Do you get the same results when you use the LED flash?
Edit: I just saw the edited post. That was going to be my next idea. Its probably something with the white balance.
No. That's how I think I figured it out that its light causing the problem. When I take it outdoors there is like no grains watch.
Yishtishe
Its called noise, and it happens with any digital camera when you crank up the ISO in low light situations. Its pretty similar to the graininess you would see in a film camera set to high ISO, but the cause is the digital sensor instead of the film itself.
http://www.photoxels.com/tutorial_noise.html
Some reviews I've read seem to hint that HTC phones tend to be a little heavy in the noise department compared to some other phones. I doubt there's not much that can be done about it.
Thank you all. I have one more question. There is this photo effect that I really like that mskes the sky have a greenish look to it and makes every object look better. It is usually accompanied by a background blur to make the object pop out. Here is an example of the effect.
I just wanr to know how that effect is done and or what it is called.

your cameras lens is dirty as hell ?
the other effect you're loooking for is called a bokeh (spelled right i think) and it's possible with some phones. haven't tried on the g2 yet, but dslr's do a fine job of it.
If you're using your G2 as a camera, I would *highly* recommend that you install the Virtuous (or another Sense/Desire Z-based ROM), as the camera application is way superior to what you get on a stock ROM (or Cyanogen). In the Sense camera app, there are even a handful of filters you can apply as you're taking the photo, one of which is this bokeh that you're interested in - even has a slider so you can adjust the parts of the pic that get blurred/focused.
What if I really hate sense. Is there a way I can simply get the sense camera while keeping cm?
-Mylenthes with his awesome G2
I searched bokeh and it isn't really the effect. The effect is accompanied by bokeh, but isn't just bokeh. It has a greenish look to it. Thanks anyway, and still wondering how tovget sense camera on cm.
-Mylenthes with his awesome G2
Use "Vignette" and you'll never use any other camera apps again. This app has the settings you need to take a pic like that.

I use vignette, but it doesn't have bokeh or the effect I like. It is a grear app though.

Try tilt-shift. Its a similar effect to bokeh, where you can blur areas of the photo. I think the leaf picture you posted is just that and some color filtering/manipulation. Although, I'm not expert at photo editing, I just know a couple tricks.
I don't like the tilt shift. There is not enough customizability with it.

I see what you mean, there is no control over what areas are in/out of focus. There are lots of different photo edited apps on the market (some of them free), play around with a few of them. Better yet, get Photoshop (or the consumer level Photoshop Elements). The Android apps are just toys compared to a real photo editing suite.
My sister has Photoshop. Also I found the effect. It's called lomo. Also there is an app that does a Boleyn effect so thanks for all your help.

That's a cool effect (Lomo). Thanks for sharing, I wasn't familiar with it. As I suspected, the effect can be simulated with edge blurring and color manipulation, but of course its easier if the app/program you are using has a built in Lomo effect.
http://www.digital-photography-school.com/how-to-make-digital-photos-look-like-lomo-photography
I'm currently playing around with a market app called PicSay Pro. Seems pretty cool so far. It costs the same as Vignette ($4), but lots more ability to scale/adjust some of the effects parameters. It has the Lomo effect, as well as a nice vignette effect (edge blurring) tilt-shift (lets you pick the focused area, and amount of blur) and a bunch of other stuff.
So I have been messing around with the Camera and like everyone has said, it is quite underwhelming, and this is surprising because it has a quite good sensor. Iv used different apps and seems other apps take worse pictures even. I'm thinking the reason the Camera is performing poorly because LeEco is not Utilizing API 2 for the Camera, which would explain why Manual focus is not available on other camera apps. Just doesn't make sense why the Camera can't perform anywhere near the OP3's.

So the trick with phones is to use HDR to get better DR and low NR. Given that phones nowadays have tremendous SoC power, HDR processing should be a breeze. And set the Sharpness setting to lowest to prevent artifacts.
Have you tried Google Camera?
Here is a comparison... You can see that Google Camera photo has better detail despite having higher ISO. Noisier but resize it down to 50%, it will be infinitely better than LeEco's default camera output.

I also do think that the software has alot to do with its underwhelming performance. Also, the pro 3 is lacking OIS compared to the others phones using the same sensor such as the op3 and lg v20. OIS helps the camera use longer shutter speeds to take in more light because it makes the lens steady. Cameras w/o ois needs to take pictures at faster shutter speeds to minimize blur resulting to the camera taking less light in.
With BuildProp Editor it's possible to add this line :
persist.camera.HAL3.enabled=1
and after reboot on x720 cinese version it's possible to use API 2 Camera.

Unless I am missing something, you just need to click/tap on the area you would like to focus on right? Even the LeEco camera can do manual focus. I suggest you use Google camera app. I did a comparison of this phone with the Pixel and the result is surprisingly similar. In sheer performance, LePro3 ate the Pixel alive. =D

How did you manage to get HDR working?
Even after I added persist.camera.HAL3.enabled=1, Google Camera I downloaded won't show HDR option.
(Playstore would not let me download the Google Camera app so I got 2.7.010 from APKmirror.

Google Camera Mods
Hi everyone. Here is my version of Google Camera! Versions posted here are based on @miniuser123 and B-S-G so thanks to them!
First of all i'm not a developer i'm just a student of electronic engeneering that enjoys taking pics and that enjoys much more Google's Camera than Samsung's one!
I struggled a lot to make those apk working (that is == to waste time instead of studying for my courses ) beacuse i've never been into this field so don't expect anything more from me.
How to Install (Very important!)
Steps:
- Delete Gcam data app if you have a previous version of Gcam installed
- Uninstall your current version of Gcam
- From smart manager clean up the memory (YES, sometimes it's needed beacuse after i tried a lots of different verisons of Gcams i messed up something more then the app cache itself)
- Install the app and after enter to the settings menu and press back to apply the settings
- Done!
Download
Stability: Medium
v2.2 Features:
- This config works with Nexus 6 only. (Pixel config can work on our device too but it's too unstable and is always memoryleaking) I prefer a more stable verison instead of something that's half- working.
- I added in this new version over the 1.8 the [email protected] fps ability and now slowmotion works 120/240 fps
-removed google some other google app dependencies
- For now you MUST disable flash otherwise the viewfinder start to became laggy and app will memoryleak
- HDR+ and portrait mode on front camera are broken and will be broken on every version until there is a way to make it working with custom libs.

Stability: Medium
3.3 Features:
-completely remade menu
-added bitrates for videos
-hot pixels and black pixels suppression
-live hdr on front camera only
- resampling method
-fixed crash on first install
-portrait zsl (can cause instability for someone from my test works fine)
-added portrait mode with ZSL option (needs to be tested)
-autodelete folders for portrait mode
- auto set settings after first install
- some other minor changes

still flash bug and wrong exif info
AR Stickers for Oreo
Steps:
- Install AR Core first https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.ar.core&hl=it
- If you can't download from playstore download from here https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/arcore
- Then AR Stickers https://drive.google.com/open?id=1kP98vuJR9bPdecBOzVeWPLNsgQb5YwjF

Works great on Note 9, better details, colors and dynamic range.
Using Pixel config.
For some reason, I can't download it from the fist link. Can anyone make a mirror for me please? ?
Thank you! Quality is outstanding. Starting to iron out the artifacts that other ports have too
First of all, Thanks a lot! and It works well S8 exynos.
I have a question. Why is hdr+ after processing faster on s7 than on s8?
I have both s7 and s8 exy versions, and s7 is always faster with hdr+ processing, even with the same build and same settings.
I tested almost every version of Gcams (which you made thanks! ), and in my s8 case, "Mod8.3b_IDan_v3.2.9_Exy" was the fastest version. And even in that version, s8 took longer to process hdr+ than s7.
Why is this happening? Is the processor on s8 faster and powerful than on s7? Does s9 also take 6~8 seconds to hdr+ after processing? I hope hdr+ processing will be faster like other snapdragon devices

Thank you. Processing speed slightly increased.
But It still slower.
The best setting I have found is
HDR+ parameters: low
config.HDR+ camera: Pixel 2017 ZSL
HDR+ Exposure: Slow shutter x2
HDR setting: HDR+ enhanced
The Pixel 2017 ZSL setting allows the camera to take two shots at a time(the second shot does not need to wait for HDR+ processing end). However, HDR+ after processing speed is the same.

You're wrong, HDR+ applies HDR processing in background. You can compare a Non HDR and a HDR+ On.
I use both HDR+ On on my S9 and Pixel 2 XL.
thanks for your work!
Thank you so much IDan for sharing this wonderful work :fingers-crossed: works really great!
Thanks for your work . Any chance of getting the flash to work properly?
After months of trying every single release of gcam that I could find on xda with loads of FC and overheating of S9+, finally @idan came to save us and enhance our camera.
Fantastic job Idan, Thanks a lot man, keep up the good work !
Does this work on Snapdragon versions? I followed the directions to the T, but I seem to be having a few issues. Portrait mode freezes on both front and back cameras, and refreshes the viewfinder every 3 seconds instead of a live preview.
I don't see an option for HDR enhanced either.
I'm not sure what the allure of the Gcam is but I wanted to try it.
portrait back cam really good on my s9+ i hope dan will not giving up on us to support this port fighting dan <3

I think a lot of these phone's stock camera apps have issues with low light situations. And Gcam seems to solve this. But it may disable other features like slow motion video for instance. I was strongly considering buying the Galaxy A50, but the photos were really poor. That's why I was wondering about this phone. Thanks for the feedback.
The Redmi Note 7 Global version and Redmi Note 7 Pro version take great photos and videos especially with Gcam.
Bought an A70 today and I can confirm that Gcam works with HDR+ and HDR+ Enhanced. The version I'm using now only allows for 8mp though so images are smaller than from the stock camera.

Which version of Gcam is working on the A70? Does RAW capture work as well? And - what are your settings?

I just tried the first I found after googling for one for the S10. I guess any version for Snapdragon should work theoretically. Yes RAW works. Have not changed any settings really just installed and started shooting. Will try other versions as I want to utilize 12mp instead of the 8mp this version is limited to. I have made some comparison shots in another forum if you want to see you can download full images from there and compare. Gcam has more details even though they are only 8mp compared to 12mp from stock camera. But stock camera is not as bad performer as I expected.

Wow! It really is working like a charm! RAW is working, too. Hopefully, we'll be getting manual ISO settings etc soon.
Gcam surely does wonders to the A70's camera module. Hopefully we'll be getting full 32mp support in the near future, too.
Here's a quick snapshot using Gcams HDR+ RAW mode on the A70 (edited the colors in post)
Hi, which Gcam version are you using? Can you provide a link to download it? Thanks
I used the follwing APK:
S10_1_MGC_6.1.021_BSG_Arnova_TlnNeun_V1.3.030119.0645.apk
You can find it on Androidfilehost.
Can you post a selfie sample?
Anyone found a mod that can utilize the wide-angle camera? That's the only thing lacking for me right now, otherwise this camera is really good with gcam.

Gcam is working great. GD1 camera sensor are not properly detected by 3rd party apps though.
Do you need to root to use the gcam?

Sorry to reassurect this thread, but I was wondering if anyone could provide updated info on how to get this going on the A70. We just received the android 10 update here in Canada.

I am using this one right now and I can say that it works well.
Are you rooted? Did you do anything to your phone prior to installing that?

1.4
GCam_7.2.010_Urnyx05-v1.4 works fine for me ... except that selecting an auxiliary camera will crash the app.
* Unfortunately, GCam therefore does not get access to the 64MP camera.
GCam_7.2.010_Urnyx05-v1.5 crashes right after taking a picture.

This gcam have the best photo quality for me with many configurable parameters. I tested lots of them and I think it's the best at this time for x2 pro.

Same for me, tried several versions and always came back to this one, unfortunately I still can't find any version working with slow motion and wide angle camera. Any suggestion??
What about selfie camera? Can they go above 4mpx?

I just followed this guy's guide and punch in the settings manually.
It does show improvement from the default app in terms of contrast and focus.
BUT it does not contain options to use the 64MP and Macro settings etc.... there are things missing in terms of all the hardware you can use.
So for now I'm using GCam if I need to take pics in normal camera mode, video and wide-lense, panorama or the amazing 360 view feature.
And use the default app for 64MP, Makro lens and slow-mo features. This version of GCam does crash on some of the options like Lens Blur, so it is not perfect.
i am very happy with the stock camera , on the latest update the quality is just fine

I'm using the same app, but I cannot find the ultra-wide lens option, I can only use the primary camera.
How to use the ultra-wide lens on the GCam app?

Ans I agree.
I tried to take pictures on low light conditions with the stock camera and compared with Google and ended up preferring the stock camera versions.
To be honest, sometimes AI overdoes things, but overall camera quality isn't bad. Even for interior pictures.

In which mode did you take the pict?
Parrot's new version is the best so far. Can't acesses the auxiliary cameras but with the right tweaks is very good.
