I realized I can no longer access the stock dialer app and forced to use Google dialer. I can access the stock dialer if I switch to guest profile. Maybe if I can get the app and install it on my profile it will work again?
Factory reset solved the problem

I'm on ei22 running mostly stock and no matter what I do text and email force closes. I've reflashed, formatted sd. Please help!

You reflashed EI22? could be a bad flash / bad dwnload........r you able to ODIN back to EC05, then flash the delta zip 'EC05 - EI22' update --zip in xda development-- bringing you to stock EI22?
otherwise, could be a systemwide issue w/ sprint's towers (they have been down w/ frequency in the past few weeks out here in the mid-atlantic)..........call + make sure service is ok.
r you getting any error messages? (ie, as an example: 'Google Services Framework'?)
make sure email client icon is visible, go to your settings>account+sync>
try to un-check + re-check sync buttons.......sometimes this helps.
another look: settings>applications>manage applications.......will show if google apps are actually there: check 'all' box above, find, tap + hold dwn 'Google Services Framework (ie, AS AN EXAMPLE based on fc or error message)'.........fr appl info window clear cache (not data).......then back to home screen check you results.
do you have a file manager?........try downloading OI File Manager fr mkt (good one).
These are just a few things that you can do, but fr the sounds of it Odin to EC05 delta to EI22 is prob your best bet............good luck.
(Btw, what is 'mostly stock'......r you rooted?)
Download Titanium Backup. Open it and click the center button at top. Scroll to email and click it and hit wipe data. Repeat for Messaging (mms) and for Google Framework Services. You will have to reset up your email account but it should no longer FC.
Tried that, no luck. I am rooted

Both apps are still FCing? I would suggest a Factory Data reset then is about all that is left to try besides Odining back to stock and rooting again.

did you restore an earlier version of the email app? i restored my data only after flashing stock EI22 and it worked. also check you market apps for updates.
When this has happened to me I usually have to restore the app only. Open it. Then I try a restore app + data. This is being done through titanium.
Worst case I have used a file manager (ES works well) and replaced the app on the phone with the apk inside the rom I am loading.

I had a stock 4.3 P601 which I upgraded to stock 4.4.2.then rooted with CF-Autoroot The upgrade was over OTA after removing root and the new firmware is ND6.
Everything works fine except for one weird problem. I cannot send texts through the stock message app. It opens fine, but the compose box is grayed out.
If I go to the settings to set it as the default messaging app, it does not appear in the list at all! The tablet can send and recieve texts just fine through third party apps like Go SMS, but just does not seem to recognise the stock app.
What could be causing this?
Did you try wiping the cache? If that doesn't help you could uninstall and reinstall the SMS app, apk should be located in system folder. Last resort would be wipe data and reflash through Odin.
Tried wiping cache and dalvik. No luck. Will probably just stay with a 3rd party app as re flashing seems too much of a pain.
Thanks for your suggestion.
On a 2013 LTE Nexus 7 with the latest 5.0.2 installed, my home button doesn't work. The back and recent apps buttons work fine, but the home button doesn't do anything. Like the rest of the buttons, it responds to touch with an animation, but it doesn't take me home, ever, and it also doesn't launch Google Search on hold. I've read in other posts that there should be a "Home" menu option in Settings under the Device section, but I don't have that either. Another oddity, quick settings pulldown from the status bar isn't working. I can pull down the notification tray, but cannot pull down the quick settings above it.
Doing some tinkering of my own, I can tell you the following:
Wiping the data partition resolves the problem, but I'm trying to keep my user accounts, home screens, apps intact, hence my continued search for solution
Using a different launcher (Google Now Launcher via Play Store), the home button works fine but I'd rather use the default system Launcher
Reflashing the factory system image doesn't resolve the problem
There are no force close error messages
Clearing data/cache for the Launcher app doesn't resolve the problem
Clearing all cached data (through the storage menu option within settings, for each user) also doesn't resolve the problem
I have been tinkering (root, multirom, etc) but right now I'm on a fresh, unrooted factory system image, but with my "dirty" data partition (I'm trying to keep my user accounts, home screens, apps intact)
Any ideas of what might be upsetting the Launcher app? Next steps?
Same here.
I haven't tried your entire list, but I've done a few of them. Oddly, when i hit "recent apps", i can then hit "home" and it works. But that's the only time. And my notifications seem to be dead, as well as quick settings...
Background: I'm all stock. I got a system update notice for 5.1.1, which i was pretty sure i already had. So while checking my current OS version, I ended up verifying that i was up to date already. Shortly thereafter, the home button stopped responding and the tablet froze up. I can't remember if it rebooted by itself or if i had to long press the home button to get it to turn off. But when it came back on, it's like everything went factory reset (all the homescreens returned to factory), but all my apps are still there in the app drawer, but they all act as if i just installed them. I have to go into them and re-login to all of them and change all their settings to how i like them. And the homescreens will need to be redone. And the "home" button and notifications still don't work. Tried Nova, but that doesn't fix any of the issues for me. I may try the Google Now Launcher next.
It looks like ahoyboyhoy has tried flashing factory image and it doesn't help, so i'm not going to factory reset if I'll be stuck in the same situation in the end.
To follow up on *my* experience with this problem, I ended up having to format the data partition, so basically a full factory reset. After that, everything was back to normal and I restored apps from a backup.
Backup question

Thanks for the update! Were you stock? If so, what was the best way you found to do a backup/restore of apps? Did it handle app data? I tried using Helium a few years ago on an HTC device, but I ran into problems that couldn't be overcome. Does Android's built-in backup option work well? I never have had good app data recovery with the buil-in option...

I was stock rooted and I think I used My Backup Pro. Not sure if you need a paid version or root access to backup app data, but I was able to back up apks+data and although it wasn't as seamless as a TWRP backup, it was better than doing things manually.
Hey i was trying to change my default calling app in my lenevo ZUK Z2, on custom AICP ROM, i am not able to change it, when i download a dialer it just changes the contacts and the keypad, but the calling app stays the same, extensive search also yielded no results.
can anyone help me in changing the calling app, my phone is rooted, so i guess it shouldnt be a problem!
freeze the default calling app with link2sd, you need root for that, i suggest magisk

I tried disabling the default app by system only, after that i am unable to call, also the new calling app i installed isnt showing in defaults also.
is there any file in system which i can modify to set the default calling app?
I'm using ok Google to call a contact and this is what I'm seeing. I have the Google dialer installed in addition to the stock dialer. I'm not rooted.
Do you have selected default phone app right?

I do, yes, thanks. I figured out that I needed to reboot my phone after disabling the default stock dialer and assigning the new Google Dialer as default. It's working now. Thanks for your time and help!
