Hey there,
As I wanted to copy some music folders and files to the phone I found out that this is kinda impossible for me. I tried on Windows 10 notebook and on windows 7 notebook. Installed the driver with comes with the phone. Restarted the phone and notebook a few times, unpluged and pluged in the cable and tried the normal file transfer option aswell as the other transfer options.
On windows10 it just stops copying after about a minute without saying anything. On windows7 its even worse. As soon as I want to copy larger than a few kB the PC just prompts something like 'Cannot copy. Maybe disconnected.'
Anybody has a suggestion what to do?
i just switch in developer mode mtp option on. i don't use the driver. this is how i do copy the large OTA updates. works for me every time.

just tried that. still not able to copy anything.

I have exactly the same problem with my Oneplus 3. Both copying folders from phone and to the phone are difficult with cable. I have used zipping to avoid the situation. I haven't tested my Oneplus 5t yet as I mostly transfer files through 5Ghz AC wlan which is almost as fast as the USB2 port in our phones.

I have an ftp server installed on my PC and I can both download and upload files directly into it. Most Android file managers support ftp and samba but in my experience ftp is almost ten times faster. Amaze is a great free Android app that allows you access to home network and it also has an option to create an ftp server out of your phone.

Just trying amaze and I have to say this is really awesome. Thanks for that!
Does push/pull using ADB not work? To me, that's the easiest way to transfer files to/from pc
you could have the error of not owning your own storage. If you have twrp installed then reboot to it then Fix contents. Its pretty useful.
Are you using a USB hub by chance? I can't transfer large amount of files using USB hubs, to any of my Android device. I've tried a couple different USB hubs (all powered hubs) all fail. It doesn't work, MTP, ADB, in the android OS and in TWRP. I use Linux most of the time, but the problem happens in Windows 7 and 10 as well, so it's not the PC either. However the moment I plug the device straight into the PC, it works perfect.
I'm having this issue too.. i have purchased a flash drive (with half type A and half type C).. it is working flawlessly..

Just in case its similar to what I found.
I use macOS (Hackintosh). I was trying to copy music and videos to OP5T and found it to be stupidly slow. Sometimes timing out. This is using android file transfer app for OSX. I was scared this is the price for buy a non-flagship device but refused to believe. Then for me I found the problem. Google Drive app!!! I have google drive app installed (on the PC / desktop I mean) syncing my folder to the google drive in the cloud. Quit the app and then the file transfers to the OP5T were stupidly FAST! So happy! Damn you Google!!!

Hopefully that works for others, but for me the problem wasn't isolated to one device. In fact my 5T is still sitting in a box unopened until there is a Lineage ROM available. My hub problems have been prevalent across every Samsung and Nexus device I've owned so far (with both the factory OS and CM / LOS roms).

Hello everyone, I (well, more likely my PC) seem to have developed an issue, causing me to be unable to access the SD card in my phone (see attached image). I tried plugging my Arc in different USB ports, which made no difference at all. I then tried with my sister's HTC Desire and my other sister's HTC wildfire which yielded the same result. Connecting the phone via fastboot and flashing things using fastboot works fine, but when I plug any android phone in using mass-storage mode then it no longer works. As you can see in the picture below, it's there, but I cannot access it. I currenly have Doomkernel on it, but it was the same issue with the stock kernel.
the prompt says "please place a disk or other suited media in Removable disk (I: )" by the way (translated from Dutch)
any help would be greatly appreciated.
it some problem with card..
seems that is some other kind of volume, must be fat32
card is formatted in fat32, I am 100% sure of that. My PC is the only one that cannot access it, other PC's can.
bump because I want to get this fixed
I had the same issue myself, couldn't connect in Windows7 but when I booted Ubuntu(same laptop) it worked fine. I had fat32 plus ext4 for link2sd, my partition tools would recognise the card though. It works now and the only thing I've altered is the rom on the phone(worked on arconium rom) but takes a while to register both in MTP/MSC modes. Strange thing is, now when I use ubuntu it doesn't recognise it.
I've used different roms as well, but both in the SE stock rom, MIUI and CM7 it doesn't work at all. and since it it's just on my own PC that it won't work I'm pretty sure Windows is the culprit.

Is memory card connected?
yes it is, I made sure I selected that, USB debugging is also on by the way (not that it makes any difference wether it's on or off, the issue still remains)
Uninstall PC companion completely, and then reinstall?
already tried that as well, even multiple times, didn't help either.

I tried that, Windows then reinstalls all the drivers when I connect my phone, but the problem remains however.
You could also try to go back to a restore point from a date when your pc still worked. Maybe an update which went wrong messed it up
Sent from my LT15i using xda premium
yeah, euhm, about that... I disabled restore points in order to save space on my SSD boot drive, so that won't be possible I'm afraid. Would using the repair function of my Windows 7 install disc help?
You could always try. And if all doesn't work you could try reinstalling windows, though i could imagine you don't want to do that.
You said any other pc recognizes your sd, have you tried a usb micro usb card reader?
Or try backing up your sd card, and then format it

Yes, reinstalling windows is something I'd preferably avoid, mainly because it would mean having to redownload BF3 and pretty much all my steam games and reinstalling, well everything.

Already tried that and it didn't help either unfortunately.
edit: Windows' repair option won't cooperate apprently, however I just had a brainwave. What if I just install a Mac OSX copy just to access my phone. I know it's in a legally grey area. but until I find a more permanent solution that doesn't involve reinstalling Windows, it seems like the best option.
there is also an app called multi mount sd, you could try that. But you will need root though
Sent from my LT15i using xda premium
I downloaded the app, however it did not help either. I have root though so that can't have been preventing the app from working correctly
I have this probkem 1/2 times i plug my Arc too. 2 solutions that i found
First : Unmount SD card, plug in phone, wait for it to start and remount the card
Second : In connectivity settings, make sure the option "install PC companion on PC " is checked. Plug in phone wait for the PC companion install screen to appear on phone and choose skip ( i sometimes have to install again , don't know why ), wait 2-3 seconds and your phone will appear. Well at least mine those.
It's a common problem if you Google it, ALOT of people have the same problem, poor programming on Sony's part i say.
Hope this helps
When I connect my S2 to the computer it appears without problems and I can look at everything on the SD card but when I try to copy something to the card or move something that is already on the card I get an error message.

I also tried uninstalling Kies (just the software, not the drivers), but didn't change anything.
Any ideas?

If not, then it's the sdcard. In this case, try error check and repair, or better to reformat.

the issue will be clear, once u stick to the rules and provide the necessary detail's of which Rom/Kernel version ur into and whether ur phone is rooted or not
I had this issue when I was transfering files to SDCard, problem is in the MTP. Switch to UMS and you shouldn't see that error anymore.

just got the Samsung Galaxy S2 SGH-T989 (ICS 4.0.4)....this is vanilla or not rooted
Also bought a Sandisk 32GB mSDHC SDSDQ-032G-A11M and formatted to FAT32 and now reads 27.71
now, I'm trying to transfer my mp3s and mp4s to this Sandisk ext_sdcard. it appears to work when my transferring from PC to mSDHC, but once mounted into the Gal S2, there's no file in there.
so rinse repeat the process, this time via USB from Gal S2, to the Samsung Galaxy S2 USB Music Folder, the mp3 file does appear. Unfortunately, this process takes another minute (on one mp3 file), because I have to "move" the mp3 from the Samsung Galaxy S2 USB Music Folder, "moved to" the Sandisk ext_sdcard. I have many albums to transfers, and the thought of moving mp4 files, will drain the energy out of me.
Is there a faster way?
thanks

Fellows, what the heck is this folder named .SIc-yJMAhEcjs6wmSi9Uhdeyr_M= that stays in the SD Card and comes back even if deleted?
I thought this folder is exclusive to an app I installed on my Play but just recently after I bought a 2nd hand Xperia Go for everyday use that I noticed it also has this folder both in internal and external SD. Also, when I connect my USB Flash Drive via OTG, this same folder is created in it, too.
Any ideas? And is this dangerous?

yes potentially dangerous, that file sounds bad, looks to me like a corrupted sector on your SD card, these files usually can came from excessive bad mounts/ dismounts on windows side aka a faulty usb? and let me guess the file size says something ridiculous like 24GB? if not your only in phase 1.
if not it could be a app creating that folder for whatever reason but you better take action, if left unchecked if i think it is what i think it is then your SD card could fully corrupt.
i had this before, take out sd card from phone(Use a sd adapter) backup everything on sd EXCEPT THAT FILE/ FOLDER then run a disk check on sd, finally format sd the place files back
remember it could be nothing. if all else fails its probably just a app inside android making that file, to find out for sure as a last resort reinstall rom/ factory reset and 1 by 1 install your apps back and see which app makes it

Are you using mobisystems OfficeSuite 7?
Try un-installing it and see what happens.
Thanks guys for all the replies! I'm supposed to post a reply last Tuesday but I was very busy.
Before I posted this query I already did Google search for this and all that came back were forum posts in foreign languages so I didn't bother looking through.
This Tuesday I tried Googling it again and 1 or 2 new search results returned were all pointing to OfficeSuite.
With that, I think it's safe to assume the folder is not harmful. Besides, its content is only a 80.00-byte worth of .nomedia file.
EDIT:
@Oldtlar Yes I think it's related to OfficeSuite. :good:
EDIT 2:
http://www.plurk.com/p/jmkhp1
I contacted Mobile Systems, (OfficeSuite 7) and they stated it was not related to their program and directed me to this thread.
After un-installing OfficeSuite 7 & installing OfficeSuite 6.5, I can confirm the folder/directory and related is created by OfficeSuite 7.
I have since emailed them, but have had no reply.
It would be nice to know why the folder is created if nothing else, but a folder name that is less threatening looking or applicable to the program would cause less concern.
It probably was a cache folder for the program
At least it wasn't anything worse.

.nomedia is the name (and file extension) used for a folder or file that is not to be scanned by mediascanner (the service that runs every time android boots up to check media content such as videos e.t.c. stored on the internal storage).
Apps sometimes make use of this folder/file extension for temporary files or files that you don't need to see. (For example some emulators extract and store their button images for touchscreen usage all separately as .PNG, they are often in .nomedia folders).
Also the file(s) as mentioned are the size of 80kb.
So yes this to me defiantly sounds like some sort of app cache generated every time the app starts, probably OfficeSuite has some sort of broadcast receiver to make it start up shortly after boot as many apps do in Android. (Tons of apps if not all use these if you have a start on boot setting present - e.g. ROM Toolbox has 9-11 if I recall right for every different aspect of the tool).
Personally I won't worry about the folder being present.
Below is an example from my phone showing apps using broadcast receivers.

There is no doubt for me that the folder & related file are created by OfficeSuite 7. I have since gone back to OfficeSuite 6.5 on my three Android devices and it is NOT created.
It may be harmless as suggested, but if your program is going to create STRANGLY NAMED folders etc...... Why not name it something, like WE ARE A VIRUS - GOTCHA!
Great Program though! I just won't be recommending it to others or upgrading until a fix/explanation is made.

The problem is that it is strangely named and contains... nothing. Just a .nomedia file.
Thereafter, I don't get why they deny OfficeSuite 7 created it. I don't mind it being there, but it's weird. That weird that it made me Google at, Google brought me in this thread.

I also have this problem. Even if I delete the folder, then find myself always on the external sd is that the internal memory.
It 'annoying ............
I also have this folder popping up every now and then with a .nomedia file. But I use OfficeSuite Pro 8 + PDF. It's true that it's weird that that denied it that it's their app makes that folder. Suspicious indeed.
Sorry if bumping an old thread isn't allowed but wanted to say that even in ver 8 problem is still there.
hello , is there anyway to recover deleted pictures from internal sdcad after formating system ??? , i tried many apps through google but all failed ,
i desperately need these pictures cuz they contain credit card informations which i must have
You are going to have to put your SD card into the computer and use a recovery program. SD cards don't have a "trash" so you will need to find software to recover it. IMPORTANT!! DO IT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE! the more reads and writes to your card, the more likely that the files you are looking for will be purged off. The reason I know its possible is because I just had to do this about 6 months ago. Good luck

internal SD.....not external SD ! zo thats a nice idea but not going to work as its not removable.
as long as you can't mount the internal SD as an USB disk its a no go to run recovery software as 99% of those type of software needs a USB disk to run and NOT MTP type of storage.
I think I saw a hack around XDA that allowed you to mount the memory, or extract the contents, to be able to recover (possibly) data. But it seemed like a lot of hoops to jump through. Plus, data recovery programs will often be only partially successful, under the best of circumstances.
Consider it a lesson learned, and backup your photos next time. With a variety of easy cloud options, there is really no reason not to.

well you could try
reboot to TWRP recovery to avoid further damage to the partition, make sure /external_sd is mounted
Code:
adb shell dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p47 of=/external_sd/mmcblk0p47_userdata.img
(that should be a raw ext4 partition)
once that's done, take out your external sdcard, and using a card reader, try mounting it in linux then use some recovery program,
you may possibly need to convert it the raw partition, but i'm not sure about all that, just trying to point you in the [possibly] right direction
but in all cases, very low chance of success probably
EDIT: for example, i was able to mount the partition (i made a backup when i first got the phone), just to test using DiskInternals Linux Reader:

Wow that's Great news... Please find out what he used to recover the files . I could really use it.
if you are rooted, there is an app available through the playstore called diskdigger that recovers deleted files from your internal storage

yes exactly diskdigger root paid one

u can try the free version first if it didnt work for u go for pro , i dont know why int the reviews alot of people says it doesnt work but it worked like a charm , i even used it later afterwards to recover some music and some videos i shot with the camera ,

Disk digger works very very well. I have used it a few times to help others out. It's success rate is pretty high.
Just ensure to recover to the external sd card.
I suggest that you try this htc data recovery solution.
Good luck.

I think not possible for internal storage.

Phone based data recovery apps (such as from the Play store) are your best bet.
As you may be referring to (hard to tell with a one line, vague post) PC based programs have been (at least somewhat) successful recovering data from smartphones in the past. But since Android has moved to MTP protocol (versus USB mass storage), most of those programs won't work.
The phone apps will work to some degree, with internal storage. But data recovery is always an iffy proposition. Once the memory blocks get overwritten, the data is gone for good (at least by any reasonable, consumer level retrieval methods).
Just ordered a brand new 32GB Sandisk Ultra SD Card for my Lumia 535 since my 2 year old Sandisk Ultra 16GB is already dead (you served me well...).
I already posted here almost like 4 months ago about a question on how can I enable NTFS support on Windows 10 Mobile, but since anyone doesn't even know the answer and yes the current build of 10 Mobile on that time I posted it doesn't even support external NTFS support just yet...
Okay back to the topic, now I got my new sdcard, I just wonder if the current build my Lumia is running (10586.11, yes I haven't upgraded to 10586.36 just yet, will do that later) supports external NTFS storage support (Continuum and OTG features on the Lumia 950/XL needs it). So I decided to format my sdcard to NTFS, plug it in to my Lumia 535 with my fingers crossed and HOLY CRAP IT WORKS !!! Read/Write works too on NTFS which is great!
NTFS features works too, like mklink (symbolic link for Windows), which can be quite useful once Project Astoria comes back to future builds of 10 Mobile or other hacks possible with symlinks...
Anyways, here's an example on how to mklink the documents folder on C:\ to your sdcard (D:\ )
On Your PC, create directories of C:\Data\Users\Public\Documents\TestFolder
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
On your sdcard, create a documents folder there, but don't create a "TestFolder" folder
After that, run command prompt as administrator
Now type in "mklink /j D:\Documents\TestFolder C:\Data\Users\Public\Documents\TestFolder" without quotes (change D: with your sdcard's drive letter on your PC)
You should see a "TestFolder" shortcut on your sdcard, but it's not really a shortcut...
Plug your sdcard back to your Lumia
To test if Symbolic Link works, create a random file on \Documents\TestFolder folder on your phone's C:\ drive, then see if that file exists on your sdcard\Documents\TestFolder\ too... If it does exists even you didn't create that file on your sdcard, symlink works!
I haven't tried reversing the junction just yet thou (MTP doesn't allow it, maybe root access can... Darn we can do some awesome hacks with reversed junction XD )
And oh yeah, there's some sort of a weird bug with NTFS when installing apps to sdcard with NTFS... It just throws 0x80073cf6... Not sure if it's just me or what... Will do a hard reset on my Lumia after installing 10586.36 and gonna update this thread if I found anything interesting after the update... Stay tuned

Nice research
Just a comment on terminology. mklink /j creates a directory junction, not a symbolic link, there are differences between these two. A directory junction is similar in behavior to a symbolic link of directory, however directory junction cannot point to network locations because of the way it is implemented (https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/aa365006).
Anyway, that's great that NTFS is supported, finally Windows 10 Mobile is becoming a grown OS
Junction doesn't help much but with symbolic links things get interesting.
I managed to write files in protected folders on my Lumia 950 which is impossible to gain full FS access to ATM.
I created on NTFS formatted SD card a symbolic link to C:\Data\USERS\DefApps\APPDATA\ROAMING\MICROSOFT\Network\Connections\Pbk, and with permissions editing of that link (disabling inherited permissions, setting explicit permissions for everyone and changing owner to everyone) I managed to achieve write access to that folder and write a rasphone.pbk configured for my VPN connection. Now I have working VPN on WP10 again
Deleting and overwriting files in that folder doesn't work unless I make symbolic links (with permissions edited the same as above) for each file I want to delete.
Other than this, NTFS is pretty useless on SD card at the moment. Apps can't be installed to it, and if pictures/video storage is set to SD, camera apps will not see the storage and will complain storage is full.
At least a NTFS card can be used to write acces phone system. . Someone can write a list of symbolic link to use on a ntfs formated card? Probably to get acces to windows/packages/oemsettings.reg, change him with a interopunlocked one and then hardreset phone to gain interopcapability?

Did a factory reset after upgrading to 10586.36, still the same error code throws for installing and/or moving apps to SD with NTFS but camera works fine for me...
Anyways, have you tried symlinking any file to C:\Windows and see if read/write actually works?

Hmmm... Might actually gonna do that soon, but for now I formatted my card back to FAT32 because of some storage problems lol!

Not yet. My goal was just to have working VPN and I stopped there once I had it. But I will try it as soon as I find a spare SD card I can play with.
Great Job guys! Looks like I'll have something fun to play around with .
How did you edit the rasphone file?

With notepad on a PC. It's just a text file.
Yes, but I can't copy it from the phone or write it back. Any hint? Thanks
@DLS123 Could you please go in detail how you got read/write access? I can see the rasphone file but can't copy or write.
Got it!
I had to delete VPN connections on the phone before I could copy the modified file.
Thanks.
