original tmobile devices - is your wifi calling still working? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

Trying to problem solve here team.
My verizon branded s8+ which I switched to tmobile via carrier switching and firmware flashing, got a tmo update today, and now no longer has wifi calling. I've reflashed new tmo firmware and carrier switched again but no dice.
I'm trying to find out if people who have an original tmobile s8+, got the update and now are on G955USQU2BQK5, do you still have wi-fi calling? If so, it's likely a specific device issue like I'm having and i'm screwed.
Any help/response would be appreciated. Thanks!
tldr - is your device originally tmobile? if yes, does your wifi calling still work after the latest update and now your baseband is G955USQU2BQK5? Thanks! :highfive:

Yes, mine is working fine. Original T-Mobile S8+ and I did the update yesterday. I just did a call on wi-fi prior to typing this.

Possible update when switching carriers?

Hey everybody, I'm just wondering if it is possible to still receive device updates when switching to a new carrier. I switched my Verizon note 4 to cricket not long ago and I saw that someone posted the phone is supposed to receive an update tomorrow so I am just wondering will I still receive it? Or is it something else that I would need to do to update?
Nope, you won't receive ota updates if not on verizon network. However, you can still update your phone using verizon's software assistance on your pc.

T-Mobile Stock Rom on SM-N9300?

Hey guys, long time xda user and flasher here. I bought the chinese/hk model N9300ZHU, I was wondering if I can somehow flash the STOCK T-Mobile firmware on it through ODIN or would I have to root it and just flash a rooted tmo Rom through TWRP instead of ODIN? Any help and insight would be appreciated !
Bump. Anyone?
Hello, I dont have the answer to your question, but I am thinking about buying the SM- N9300 for AT&T here in the USA. Just wondering how has it been working for you? LTE, apps, connections, etc. Should I have any concerns? Thanks

Everything is fine as far as connections and network go. I just wanted it to show LTE instead of 4g. Anything thing I miss is VoLTE and Wi-Fi calling. I saw a root method for tmo and at&t users where you can flash sprints files through ODIN and have Wi-Fi calling work but dunno if the 9300 supports all this.
Okay, thanks......Ive also read that its a little difficult to put your Google account on there. Something between China & Google. But i guess some people have managed to put Gapps on there somehow. Is 4g considered LTE here in the states?

Verizon Note 8 on Cricket - Has anyone done this?

I bought a Verizon Note 8 which are factory unlocked and simply put my cricket sim inside and changed the APN settings to what the Cricket website recommends. However I'm have issues getting LTE Service and voice quality in general.
Has anyone every encountered this with the new galaxy devices on cricket? Should I look to flash the unlocked or ATT firmware to fix this?
Thanks in advance!

I would try the unlocked firmware and do a factory reset.

It works amazingly better service than Verizon but Verizon's support is on point I give them that

I just bought a Verizon Note 8 off craigslist. Works fine w/ my Cricket service. Didn't have to fiddle w/ APN settings either. I got LTE. I don't like the stock Verizon ROM however, I'm gonna put either the SM-N950U1 stock rom or a custom ROM.

Will a Verizon Note 8 work if you put a SIM card from cricket in?
I used a Verizon s8 plus on at&t for months. Flashed the unlocked firmware and had zero problems
I realize this is an old thread, but I also have a VZW Note8 being used on the Cricket network. I flashed the U1 firmware, which workds great, but calls are handled over H+, data over LTE. Cricket/AT&T is sunsetting their 3G network beginning 2020, so this will cause issues with my calls. Does anyone know, is there a firmware I can flash to enable VoLTE over the Cricket network?
Verizon Note 8 running on Cricket
Cricket wireless ran smoothly and fast, but I don't like Verizon bloatware. Flashed it with a SM-N950U1 bloatware free and reinstalled Cricket sim card and no problems, but one a cracked screen that still works.:good:
Yup it works
only problem is update to pie made free wifi tethering go away. Haven't figured out how to get it back yet. My LTE and voice work fine, also my APN settings happened automatically. Maybe delete the APN you created and let it do what it does. I'm so not an expert, but mine works fine.

I had Verizon Nougat on my Note8 originally... Using it on Cricket. I switched it to the unlocked carrier Oreo ROM several months ago. Wifi tethering worked. I upgraded to Pie last night using Smart Switch on my PC. It upgraded my Note8 to the unlocked carrier Pie ROM. Wifi tethering still working for me.

Good to know. I'm coming form samsung S8. I ended up buying the European version so I could root. Roger's locks the samsung down.

The only thing i'm disappointed with is that Fido did not provision it for video calling. I spoke to the tech department and was told Google will be rolling out an update to fix that and RCS because the phone is not reading what features the plan has.
Then I was told that video calling over the network is not capable because the phone comes preloaded with DUO which it does not. So I don't know what to believe but I would like for them to provision it for the video calling so I don't have to use my data.
I unlocked and rooted mine on Telus.
i am with bell Canada and have a google store unlocked pixel 3 xl. turns out bell retards only allow bell sold phones to work with WiFi calling. has someone found a way around this?
it also seems this functionality only works in Canada! has anyone tried using a vpn connection to Canada to be able to use this functionality?
reason why i am so interested is my work takes me where there is no cell coverage and having WiFi calling would be great!
thanks

I doubt it to be honest. You can try talking with tech support and see. But unless it's registered as sold in their database it might not be able to
Still doesn't make any sence, all they require is google pixel 3... No where does it say bell issued. It's carrier unlocked so why would it make any sence they give partial access to what is offered to the phones sold by bell... And yes I talked to them no one knows why and they rather loose a client than change it. . They are idiots!

Have you tried calling bell to see if they'd connect it for you? I did that with Telus with my new non Telus 3XL, and they were able to make the WiFi calling work.

Note 10+ unlocked Tmobile issues

Just got my note 10+ and I'm absolutely loving the phone, but the service on the unlocked phone isn't to good. First off when i make a phone call it doesn't stick to LTE it goes to H+. When i hang up the phone it takes forever to switch back to LTE. What's the issue? Maybe because I transferred my data from my note 9?
What else are you seeing besides the lte any issues with wifi calling/volte/video calling/visual voice mail?

Wifi calling works. I have really never used visual voicemail. Volte is the biggest issue for me. Video calling doesn't work since it doesn't have the t mobile firmwire on it. I will give it 24 hours for the SIM card to be fully configured if not, I will be flashing the tmobile firmwire

Did you get a configuration message? If not, ask TMobile to send one?
I have the unlocked version on T-mobile also. I got the config message, it rebooted. WiFi calling does not work (test with airplane mode on then toggle wifi back on with wifi calling enabled). There is not VoLTE on the unlocked model.

I'm using the unlocked model on T-Mo. WiFi calling and VoLTE work fine.
Only thing I noticed was the data speed seems slower. I have two lines, so I tested them side by side
I had my Note 9 (running T-Mo firmware) in one hand, and my Unlocked Note 10+ running the factory unbranded firmware in the other hand. The Note 9 was pulling 80 Mbps and the Note 10+ was pulling 60 Mbps.
Easiest way is to install t-mobile firmware on unlocked version to enjoy all the benefits along with faster carrier updates https://www.sammobile.com/sams...ote-10-plus/firmware/SM-N975U/
