Have you tried resetting with this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1923956
With this you can flash the stock boot image back, and hopefully after that you'll be able to flash everything else you want.
Alternatively you could flash stock Rom and Kernel with Odin.
If you have Kies installed, make sure that it is not running while Odin is running. They don't like each other.
You said you wanted to flash a Rom, what exactly were you trying to flash? Are you sure it was the right Rom for your device?
ok this is quite the story, so grab some popcorn. ok so i rooted my s4 mini(SCH-r970) and i wanted to install a custom boot. so i used flash gordon, flashed the zip from rom manager (app) the boot animation enabler for samsung, but when i rebooted the s4 mini logo booted then the screen went off in a loop on, off, on, off so then i decided to use odin to instal cwm recovery then i flashed the samsung qmg enabler from rom manager (app), didnt work. then i went to s4archives and insalled their custom boot file to get by. didnt work. i tried all these other methods like"wipe dalvik cache then wipe cache" nothing works. and now im tring to find a way to fix it.
help?
Try flashing the stock kernel from sammobile.com
Try flashing the stock kernel from sammobile.com. i have duos varient and worked pretty hard to root it (Even bricked once), but then installed stock firmware from sammobile.com and did everything more sophisticatedly.....if your phone isn't hard bricked...keep trying every method you find.

Hello, my friend has a Ace 2 (GT-I8160) and he wanted me to try and install CM 11 on his phone. I managed to root it and install temporary CWM on it, however his version of CWM could not flash CM 11 ROM's because it was outdated. I Googled around and found a TWRP .img file that I decided to flash via ODIN (CWM couldn't flash any TWRP .zip files for some reason). Everything went perfectly fine with ODIN, however my friends phone could not go pass the Samsung logo, it would appear for a few seconds and then the screen would go black. He also couldn't go into recovery but he could go into Download mode. Thinking that it was a recovery problem, I managed to get a .img file of TWRP 2.8.6.0 by Chronomonochrome and flash that via ODIN. Still the same problem - phone won't go pass the logo, however it can go into recovery.
So, now the phone boots perfectly to Download mode and recovery - and it can do everything from the recovery, like making backups, wiping, etc, but it cannot boot to the OS itself. I still haven't flashed a custom ROM on his phone because he didn't have the ROM file on his phone at the time nor could be transfer it to his phone via his PC because of some driver issue.
I'm currently downloading I8160XXBN1 firmware from Samsung Updates to flash via ODIN and try to get his phone back into working state. However, I also planned on placing my SD Card (which has the CM rom and Gapps on it) into his phone and flashing a new, custom ROM instead of flashing the firmware.
Does anyone have any advice on what I should do? Should I flash official firmware via ODIN or just flash the ROM using the recovery?
Thanks in advance.
I once tried to "Unroot" my phone by factory restoring it then flashing a stock rom and original firmware through Odin. Flashing the stock rom worked however when I tried to flash the firmware through Odin I got an "ext4 image fail" error. I am now stuck with a phone that does not boot. It is just stuck on a "Connect to Kies for emergency recovery" screen - but my phone is never detected in Kies. I cannot boot into recovery mode: I tried and I get the Samsung logo with the blue "RECOVERY BOOTING" text at the top for a split second, but then the screen goes black and I get this message at the top of the screen:
"image size too large!! W:1000, H:1920
display image fail
SECURE FAIL: KERNEL"
Basically, I had 4.2.2 Jellybean installed but wanted Kitkat (this was much earlier this year) and so I found a method of installing KitKat which also gave root access. Can't remember what I did to install it.
I have now successfully flashed CWM recovery through Odin but I have absolutely no idea what to do next. All the guides I have read talk about installing something through an SD card via the recovery menu, which I obviously cannot do because I can't reach the recovery menu.
Anyone know the steps to take?

Not quite sure what you mean by flashing rom & firmware as it's the same thing, I guess you mean you flashed multipart rom files as separate items. Or did you flash "extra" files, by which I mean flash a full stock rom plus some duplicates eg csc, bootloader etc at the same time? Not sure if this would just overwrite or cause issues. Is there a procedure you followed? Eactly what files did you flash?
Anyhow, I think your first problem is that your cwm recovery has not installed properly. CWM is not maintained anymore The first thing I would do is try to flash a stable TWRP for our phone (see ne0zone75's TWRP thread) as this is maintained. If after flashing TWRP you still can only access download mode then you should flash a full stock rom (1 file with 4 files inside) as others have done to solve "image size too large" problem (try different Odin version if fails). If you can boot into recovery thin you can flash a zip file (though I think it would be a good idea to flash a full stock rom so you at least starting with a known configuration , then flash a custom rom or root it)
