My new Xperia XA1 (G3121) is not quick charging using the original UCH12. I installed the ampere app to check. And the UCH12 doesn't charge any faster over the stock charger.
What's even stranger, is that I already had this UCH12 with my previous phone, the Xperia Z5C, and it did use the quickcharge capabilities.
I took my old Z5C back out of storage and tested both devices with the ampere app. The Z5C was allowing a whopping 3850 mamp! Whilst the XA1 doesn't come any further then just under 1000mamps. The voltage also doesn't get lifted over 4v.
Is there some kind of hidden setting that I need to toggle?? I was under the impression that the XA1 does support the QC2.0. What am I doing wrong?
Hi
I think that you've programs that battery drain on background
Nope, it's the same with all background apps closed. Even when it's turned off it charges in the same time with the UCH12 and UCH20.
I think it's because of an update, because it's the same for me now... ?
Just chiming in here, I just got the phone and updated to the latest November patch. The phone only seems to charge properly and quick charge when the phone is turned off. Looks like the problem is software related (at least my problem).
When it's turned on, the phone seems to charge a little bit then drain. Which is confusing at best.

Are you sure you have genuine original UCH12? There are a lot of fake UCH12s on the market. All logos and labels are almost the same. I hit one fake UCH12 charger. It was supposed to be an OEM without original package.
SONY logo is written in different font. On the back in tiny letters is written brand "Sany" made in "Iapan". Very difficult to notice the difference. What more, this kind of charger supports QC3.0, but not PumpExpress2.0 which is supported by XA1.
How can you see charging voltage in Ampere app? I though it is not supported by software.
(I used this fake charger only for few minutes. Maybe it was enough to damage touchscreen)

Hi, I come from the Xperia Play section, which is awesome and supporting, so I hope this one will be too
I got this phone today and I was wondering how to make the best of it (I know BL unlock and root is the xda way, but I'm not in a rush for doing it yet cause I want to experience stock FW and see if Sony did a good work on it).
The thing that concerns me the most is the first battery charge. I chose this phone for the size and battery duration but I'm afraid to screw it by charging it wrong the first time. Also, is it better to charge it when the phone is off or on? is it ok (or not damaging) to charge it during all night?
Hope you answer quickly before stock battery charge runs out. I'll do my best to help this new community
Our Phone has a lion battery so you dont need to discharge to 0%. You can just charge from 10%to 100% and will be great. There is no need to calibrate battery or something. Just charge like everyday. I charge my Phone during day because i dont want to charge whole night
@mosespl Thanks for your reply. So I' leave it to discharge until its 10% and then charge during 2 hours until it's 100%. How much batttery time do you get with a normal (medium) usage?
You must remember than li-on battery doesnt like to be discharged. So keep Phone alive and charge to 100% and unplug. I use magnetic cable with original adapter
wow... aged phone xperia play, the same age with my old SE Arc.
This board isn't many guys because some guys went to z1 board because we share pretty much the same stock roms and same problem and same mods with our big brother z1.

Just the same problem we have on Xperia play and neo L, the only SE devices on the zeus board while the other 2011 devices are on mogami board. Our kernel developers soon moved to newer devices so we never had a fully functional 3.4 kernel, and no kitkat. The issue is so bad that we are just getting a WIP version of CM11 with wifi and camera broken.... The mogami devices got stable CM11 in February or March...
Neo L and Play roms and mods are usable on both devices ( not kernels) so its useful to browse both forums. I guess I'll have to do the same with z1 and z1c forums. Thanks for the tip

This problem is much better since the hardware is much more similar on z1 and z1c. We can flash z1's kernels and roms with just little changes. Camera is same so we can flash the z1's 4k and timeshift mod.
Just to stress that again: Li-Ion batteries don't like low as well as permanently high states of charge and also not high temperatures. It's best to keep them between 30% and 90%, if you really want to make them last long just charge whenever a charger is at hand, but stop at 90%. The LED turns green at 90% anyway and charging time increases because the phone basically switches to trickle charging.

This is not real needed again because modern Li-ion battery already got a safe margin like 10% at upper and lower limit in the circuit and battery capacity. You never actually 100% full charge or 0% used up whole battery though the phone display 100% and 0%. However, some cheap China rubbish battery need be careful as they don't have the extra capacity space.
Afaik they specifically don't do that because a) it would make their battery life worse in comparison at the same capacity and b) that would mean trickle charging starts at 80-85% which would be unnecessary, they could just charge at full speed.

Wow I hope there will always people who can compile z1 kernels for our z1c and maybe this phone will be compatible with future android versions. SE 2011 devices can use kitkat but have not enough cache space for ART, so they have to use regular dalvik... I hope this phone will last in my pocket at least 2 years

The stock kernel and rom from Sony on z1 and z1c is exactly same, you should realize they are almost identical. z1c just got a smaller screen and smaller battery, all other things is same.
Customer kernel on the other hand will need little changes to make it real works on z1c but not that real hard.
Smaller screen = different screen and especially digitizer, doesn't that mean a different driver?

Not sure but I flashed the Z1 RomAur V9.1 rom got no problem at all on touch screen. And I see folks just do little changes on Z1 DooMKernel(both 4.4.2 and 4.4.4) then it works on Z1c.
I think as long as you don't try to enable the Pen Mode, then it should be no problem.
I'm also using 9.1, it doesn't include a kernel.
as you all know, z1c comes with the snapdragon 800 SoC, and one of its feature is fast charge with 2Amp input. I have a 5V/2A charger, but when i plug it in and check with current widget, the maximum value i can see is around 1200mah.
I"m using doom kernel (which said to enable forced fast charing), and i also set the manual fast charge vale in pimp my z1 to 2000, but that doesnt work either.
Now i know about the overheating and damaging battery stuffs, but i do want to charge my phone real quick, so what is the solution? or the z1c just cant get more than 1200mah?

There are 2 things which might happen in your case.
First the current widget shows the input and usage i.e. when your phone uses 500mAh and the charger provides 2000mAh the app will show only 1500mAh.
Second the charger might not be able to output full 2000mAh because of tolerances maybe?
Sony says that nominal true and safe value of charging for Sony z1c is 1,5A and they provides charger of 1,5A also they said that if you will charge fastest speed your battery will definitely affect by this and it lifecycle will decrease. Our phone of course can handle fast charge because of qualcom but battery isnt adjust to handle that for a long time. I hear that in Sony center because I want to buy stock 2A Sony charger so if you care of your battery use stock charger or other up to 1,5A

Hi XDA Forum!
I've got a Sony Xperia Z5 Premium that drains faster (or at the same rate) than it charges playing games such as Pokémon GO but also oddly using applications such as Snapchat. Obviously this is inconvenient as I'd like to be able to charge my phone via a portable charger and use it at the same time but the phones battery percentage either stays the same or goes down slowly while plugged in (whether its a wall charger or not). When checking the charging current with AIDA64 and Ampere, I get jumping readings but it usually stays around a charge rate of 300mA with the occasional jump up. Any reason for this ? Currently using build 32.2.A.0. 224 (Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow).
Realised that the Jump from 17% to 18% took way too long and looked at the readings for the charging current. Please see attached while I'm still sane Help on this is really needed!
Edit 1: Bear in mind the charger I'm using for this is rated for 1500mA and when using USB ports rated for 2400mA, the same issues occurs and with different cables (definitely seems like a phone issue rather than equipment used-issue)
Edit 2: Also bear in mind that my brightness is on lowest, WiFi is turned off, GPS is on Battery Saving and all other apps are closed via the recent apps drawer.
Send help pls!
Another Imagine depicting how bad this issue actually is. I can't use my phone at all while it is charging or else it just doesn't charge at all. The image shows that from ~10:00AM until now (4:00PM) it has gone up by roughly 4%.

Stop being so impatient, we all have lives here... Next, stop using your fone while it is charging and let us know how that goes. Next use a different wall outlet and charger and cable and see whether things improve. There are quite a number of factors at play here. Lastly, factory reset if all else fails...

When charging without using the phone, it charges slowly but surely. It is when the device is in use that it drains faster than it is able to charge (which is inconvenient seeing as I need to use it while Charging for a Pokemon GO event). I have tried multiple cables and multiple outlets and have just performed a factory reset yesterday (via Sony's Xperia Companion) which I'm not so sure has fixed the issue as I'm still getting the low current readings. If the issue persists I'll just get a Samsung Galaxy S7 next month since I'm pretty sure they wouldn't have this issue and I'll most likely have to send my current Sony Xperia Z5 Premium to Sony for repairs.
One more thing, the Sony Xperia Z5 Premium's battery is rated at 3.8V and 3430mAh but looking in AIDA64 the voltage shows as 4.106V. Normally as a somewhat tech savvy person, I would be extremely worried quite a bit if voltages were this off. Any help?
Hello,
I am new to the moto z play. I had the moto x style before.
Can anyone tell me the best / correct way of charging the moto z play?
I've read sometimes that charging to 80% and using the battery to 20% and recharging would be the best way.
But when I do so, I have to charge my phone almost every day.
Is it possible to charge the phone to 100% or 90%?
Excuse my bad english, I am from germany.
Best wishes,
a new user to the moto z play

Just charge it when it need to be charged lol
There isn't magic tricks to charge it, and obviously you can charge the phone to 100%
Charging a lithium battery to a lower voltage can increase the overall cell cycle life at the expense of capacity. At 4.2v you may get 300-500 full cycles before you start seeing noticable degradation where at 4.1v you may get 600-1000. But the effort to track that and stop charging I think is negated by the fact this phone has such high capacity vs it's usage that even if it's degradated - you will still have a good run time!
With that being said - with root or a custom ROM - you may be able to set a lower charge termination voltage like on some Sony phones had an option for - but I don't know the details of how to do that.
For more info check: http://batteryuniversity.com/index.php/learn/article/charging_lithium_ion_batteries
I almost always charge from PC/laptop using regular USB port which can provide up to 500 mA. Usually when I see that is getting close to 40%. And often not charging over 80 but that depends do I need the phone for longer period or just forgot to disconnect. Fast charging in general is not healthy for battery, mainly because of heat produced.
On another hand, most probably battery life is longer than phone's. Just because phones are getting obsolete...

It's amazing how much we actually use our phones in a given day, especially when we watch "videos"! Rate this thread to express how many hours of screen-on time you can get on the Sony Xperia XA1 Ultra before depleting the battery.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Best SOT ever
I used the phone for 1 day and 12 hours
Since unpluged it was full brightness
Not even I know how i got so much SOT
Was not gaming
WiFi and Data always on
Location on
And was last two days about all the time browsing
Look at the pictures
EDIT
This pictures are not the max sot I have got..it gets a bit more then this..
But what I need to add now is...I use it allways at full brightness with
the display settings .. I use the smart brightness and turn also all the other
''good stuff'' settings on...
And that way I have this max of 9 hours.. so I do not go easy on it to save battery or something
I go full power..with all those ''smart'' settings turned on..
And if not used to much you can go easy two days...easy

I think personally the XA1 Ultra has a super efficient battery which many will think 2700mAh is not enough but with it having a 6" screen many would think it wouldn't last but it has proven otherwise. Such a beautiful phone, looks and feels like a high end device and many work colleagues love the look and size of the device.
I also suggest buying the UCH-12 quick charger (just under 2 hours from 0-100) as it knocks off just over an hour compared to the normal charger supplied which is the UCH-20 (3 hours from 0-100%). Also, don't forget to grab the Battery Care APK from APKMirror too.
Overall, I love this device and definitely look forward to Android Oreo running on this alongside my trusty Xperia X!
Hii @LevsOG
First of all thanks for the advice for the charger
I just orderd one today for my xa1 ultra
Will test it and report back
One thing I have noticed today
Sony recommends for our model to use the UCH12W version not the UCH12 version
Then I have found out from users that there is no big deal difference between that two chargers
Only the cable would be different
If you go online and look for the price you will see
That the 12W costs 3 times more then the 12 version charger
And if you type just the name of the UCH12 charger
On the sony official site it is stated that the cheaper model does support our model.. But you need the right cable for it or the one wich you get out of the box
So, I also looked at the Spec
And there is no difference between the UHC12 and UCH12W
Only the price is much much more to pay.. Like 60 dollars and 20 dollars
And Sony stated that both supports xa1 ultra
The 60 dollars one by default
And the 20 dollars one with the right cable
Only big difference is.. One is the latest the other older model
So I got me the 20 dollars one
Will report back
And the last thing
Thanks for all the pictures you have showed in the attachment
EDIT 01:
This are the chargers..
Look for yourself..they are the same spec..
And one is like 20 dollars the other is like 60 dollars..
This one is the older model and look that Sony says it is recommended
https://support.sonymobile.com/au/quickchargeruch12/faq/
This one here is the new one a much more expensive..
https://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/products/accessories/quick-charger-uch12w/specifications/
Just google a bit they are the same..
Happy charging
Please give some pictures

Hi there, sorry to hear you're experiencing problems with your charger!
The stock one originally supplied takes upto 3 hours from 0-100% whereas the quick charger takes just under 2 hours from 0-100% as I've plugged in both and seen the difference myself.
I have been using the UCB-20 cable that was originally supplied in the box, and the one received with the quick charger is the same model but produced on a different week compared to the other one, there is no difference between each cable although on the inside of the Type C connector it looks slightly different but either cable I've used are absolutely fine.
Also I'm on the latest UK firmware 42.0.A.4.133, no root or custom ROM's for me as of yet...
