Hi everyone,
I have this issue with random freeze daily 3 or more. I use custom ROM and magiks open bootloader.
I read the problem could be the open bootloader.
Can I use custom ROM and magiks with a locked bootloader?
We have 2 of this phone and the other is untouched with the Chinese ROM and that never freeze.
I need custom ROM and magiks but these freezes makes me crazy.
I have tried ROMs basebands kernels. Really need some help how to avoid these random freeze
Any answer is highly appreciated!

Open Bootloader is not the problem, many users here including myself are using Custom ROMs with open bootloaders without any freezes
Yep, I thought so but wasn't sure.
Now on the last custom rom flash I wiped the data as well and so far had no freeze but it is only a couple of hours.
Maybe restoring apps with data via titanium backup could cause freezes but again no idea
The screenshot is about the latest setup

My niece has an epic. I rooted it for her and I have tried 3 different rom's so far. I have had trouble with each and I am beginning to wonder if have a defective device. Each rom ends up rebooting constantly or getting thrown into a boot loop when it tries to start the launcher. When this happens the only way to fix it is to reflash the rom. Since I don't follow this forum as much as I do others, I wondering which rom is the closest to stock that is stable and is based on froyo? I want to try to get basically get it as close to stock as possible and remain rooted and see if it is still troublesome. I have found a couple of rom's but I guess what I am asking here is there one in particular that would be considered the most stable?
Probably EC05plus. I think it is installed with Odin so you will need to backup and probably do Advanced Restore Data from the nand backup to prevent the boot loops you are getting. TWlauncher is probably your cause since most ROMs remove it. If you switch to Zeam or Launcher Pro before flashing ROMs you might not get those boot loops. Here is the link to the stock plus ROM:

Which ROMs have you tried? You could be flashing them wrong or forgetting to flash a kernel right after flashing the rom (only certain ones at least). SRF 1.2 is a very stable EC05 rom and works great but you need to flash a compatible kernel right after flashing it.

Yes, please more info on which ROMs you are trying. Also, make sure to enable journal to prevent data corruption and force close issues. Especially if its for your niece, not someone who can flash and Odin as needed

Ive got this message in cwm when was restoring (jj's hybrid for locked bootloader): no app2sd partition found, any ideas?
Locked Bootloader Arc S.
When i want to format sd-ext --> same message.
Prince
Bump
Prince
That means that CWM didn't find a second partition in your SD card used by Link2SD.
Is it working fine, JJ ROM?
Im just wondering if i can flash it with this 'error'.
Prince
I presume jj's rom has app2ext built in, but it shouldn't affect the rom. But check on the rom thread.
sinksterĀ©
I was asking, but no1 replied.
Prince
It will work. That "error" is just a check if a sd partition exists to make use of. Wont affect sysyem if missing.

Thx then xd

hints that migh be helpful to prevent trouble when flashing custom roms & kernels
hi there,
i'm not entirely sure if this will help you but generally speaking i came made a few observations about the fact that some people, mostly repeatingly the same users, encounter problems with their custom roms and/or flashing them, while others don't, albeit they are using the same devices.
i myself use 3 different devices, all rooted and running on pac 4.3, always latest nightly, as there are GT-N7100 - GT-I9100 - Nexus 4
not to the point
a) other than most other users i usually clean cache and dalvik cache as well before and after flashing the new rom and/or new nightly
and never encountrer any problems except those which everybody, using the same rom and nightly encounters.
b) whenever i flash an totally different rom and/or upgrade and/or downgrade to another level of android os, i.e. from 4.2.2 to 4.3, i perform
a clean install, including not only a factory reset, but as well a format sd-card, format cache and format system etc., again i cannot proof
which of these steps make a or the differnce but however, i never have problems others than thosw which everyone has with a version.
c) when using cusome kernels and due to the fact that some roms come with a kernel included, as well as with a custom recovery included,
it is strongly recommended not to forget to flas the kernel again after each flashing the new rom. one good example ist dorimanx kernel
for GT-I9100 which will not boot into recovery and reluctantly boot at all after a new flash of a pac nightly without reflashing the kernel.
d) try to fix permissions on reboot instead of doing it from recovery. one reason is that not every recovery has this option and further i
found that when fixing permissions before the first boot after flashing a new rom, there might be bootloops, albeit i cannot explain exactly
why that should, but however, sometimes it's better to be on the safe sid.
e) try to run whether the lastes version of custom recovery for your device, and or the use the included custom recovery of the rom or the
kernel. this again is one thing that can help to avoid some unexpected and hard to explain bootproblems and/or fc's etc.
hope that i could give you some new ideas how to avoid trouble while using custom roms and other hacks

You must use ICS kernel, either unlock bootloader and install custom ICS kernel, or first install/update to stock ICS and then follow the same method.
i already did 6 times
i already tried 6-7 time to install custom rom when it stuck on sony logo i flashed it with orignal stock rom and tried again but every times same problem arise. now i am not understanding where i missed

First install stock ICS firmware, Android 4.0.4 (4.1.B.0.587 or 4.1.B.0.431), and then install the custom ROM. Did you do it so? Can you write the file, which you used?
no..i flashed only base version 4.0.2.A
i always flash "LT18i_4.0.2.A.0.58(2.3.4)_HK" after every bootloop, i not tried to flash 4.1.B.587....few month before tried it to flash but i think it is not able to flash because of system partition is is less because of 4.0.2.................well benifit of installing upgraded rom "4.0.4 (4.1.B.0.587 or 4.1.B.0.431)" and are you sure after that i will able to install it..?

Hey guys,
I'm new to the Xperia Arc development and need some help with installing a custom rom. I've done quite a bit of reading but still can't figure out what is wrong and why it's simply not working.
So from what I gathered the steps to ensure a successful flash are:
Firstly flash a stock rom via flashtool ie LT18i_4.1.B.0.587.ftf
flash LT18i_4.1.A.0.562_Kernel > root the device > flash back to LT15a_4.1.B.0.587_Kernel
Then now that the device is rooted, I need to install a recovery such as CWM via RecoverX
So, so far so good as I can access CWM, stock rom works fine as well
So then next step is to unlock the bootloader
pretty sure this worked, as when i tried to unlock it again, it said it failed as it was already unlocked
Now flash a custom kernel, in this case i flashed the 146 FXP CM kernel
This also seemed successful as I was presented with a custom splash screen
So then after custom kernel is installed I enter recovery, wipe the cache and reset factory settings, format the data system and cache as well as wiping the dalvik and battery stats.
After, I installed the custom rom zip file, in this case it was aokp_anzu-ota-eng.kxp_build5 and then google apps and then reboot.
So my problems begin here.
My phone seems to be stuck in the boot process (sometimes), on the "initiating swagger" splash screen and it goes crazy. I've tried flashing this rom with other kernels (fusion 3.9) and sometimes it actually loads up into the rom. But the rom is extremely laggy, applications freeze and close and the wifi never works
So my question is, is there any steps or procedures that I am missing, not doing right or in the correct order?
I don't think it's any hardware issues as wifi works in the stock rom, and it's fairly smooth and fluid.
Also, is there a better way to flash roms so that I don't need to do this entire process of flashing a stock rom, rooting, unlocking bootloader, installing recovery every time I want to flash a new rom? And when I flash a custom kernel first, then flash a custom rom that has a kernel inbuilt (cm10) does the custom rom's kernel replace the one i just flashed, reason for asking is that the instructions say to flash the custom kernels and then the roms, but yeh just hasn't been working for me so not really sure how to do what.
I'd really appreciated any help or insight!
Thanks

Thanks! I've read your guide (what I based my flashing on) and it seems consistent with what I have done, on the surface of it anyway. If you think I missed or overlooked something, would it be possible to point it out?
If your boot loader is unlocked it's as simple as this...
1. Flash kernel
2. Wipe cache etc
3. Install ROM
...I always reboot before installing anything else as I've found it can break the installation of the ROM.

As ExpirienceD says, just one more thing flash kernel modules if you need to.
So:
1.Flash kernel
2.Full wipe data/cach...etc...
3.Flash ROM
4.Flash kernel modules

Hi, I just installed this rom and I admit it, this is the best rom I have ever used so far. However I encountered problems from my 1st day of using it. My phone keeps forced restart everytime I simple things such as restoring backup using titanium backup, and also when I charged overnight, my phone freezed so that I need to pull out the battery.
Any idea what might cause this? And how to solve this?
I used to use rooted stock kernel stock rom 4.1.2 from samsung, then I installed tigra rom v4 without flashing mj5 bootloader, I only flashed dr ketan wifi fix patch. Then before I installed this rom, I used "clean install rom" in philz recovery after that I installed dn3 v3.2.
Did I miss some steps here?
Do I need to full wipe using philz recovery or it is sufficoent with its "clean install rom"?
Or maybe this problem has relation with bootloader? Do I need to flash it with mj5? Bcs I didnt make any change on it since I dont have any idea with bootloader.
Please help me, I really love this rom, and I want to make it in my phone for a long time. I have looked for the same problem with me in this thread n couldnt find any answer. Thank you in advance,
First I would try Dr. Ketan's reboot and wifi fix http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=46222818&postcount=3
Second option, if no help from the fix, you might flash mj5 BL.

You can only flash BL with PC-Odin PDA look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2500823
Hope after flashing the boot loader your problem is solved.

That also happened to me. Flash the MJ5 bootloader. I flashed the "BL_N7100XXUEMJ5_1903221_REV04_user_low_ship.tar" using ODIN 3.09
to be specific. Then I downloaded the :samsung info" app to check if my patching is successful.
I am using TWRP 3.1.1 on my redmi 1s and was using AOSP Extended Rom v4.4 .I thought of trying the phone encryption option but the device went into bootloop. Now only MIUI rom is working and all other ROMs' flashes result into bootloop. Recovery is fine. Is encryption the problem.
First, flashing custom roms requires firmware: get it at https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=73812026&postcount=2
2nd some roms has problems within zip files causing some bootloops or error while flashing
for example AOSP EXTENDED ROM, there is a work around for that get it here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=72648733&postcount=223

But I had previously flashed several ROMs without any problem they worked fine(even AOSP Ext). The glitch came after trying to encrypt my phone after which it went into bootloops. Strangely MIUI roms are working fine and recovery also looks good. could anyone please suggest what is the problem.I really hate MIUI.

Disabling Encryption is not an option ROM is already damaged.
