Isn't that just a widget that you can take off the screen?

It's not a widget, I'm talking about the line at the very top. Impossible to removed as far as I know.

If you're talking about the "at a glance" notifications just long press on it and hit preferences. Then just disable everything.

I get the same thing when I tap on it. I'm sure that widget would like nice without it.
It wants you to set up the smart notice?

My Smart Notice is set up. I already set it up.
After some researching, it appears the ? on the widget is supposed to launch LG's "Quick Help". I neither would use quick help nor do I use Google Now very much (thus, dont need constant updates), so I changed the Smart Notice widget for the regular clock/weather widget. It *is* pretty cool that it changes color depending on your wallpaper, though.
I can't be the only one this eyesore bugs. Is there a way remove or mask it?

lol No, I'm talking about the shadow at the bottom not the icons. I guess the screenshot isn't showing my issue off very well.
To see the shadowing one must turn the brightness to the max. I don't know how to get rid of it. I know I don't have it but I am in Nougat. And not so many icons can be presented at once.

Screenshot does show it quite well, I see what you mean. I guess it may look different on different screens ... and eyes [emoji14]
That said, I don't know how to fix it. Maybe try looking at some Xposed modules (you are running Marshmallow, right?)

Any way to get rid of the Google search bar at the bottom of the home screen? It is annoying and I never use it.
Thanks!

Your rooted so check out end of this thread post #565 from @Tulsadiver, he shared a couple files to remove search bar plus a couple features.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-2-xl/themes/mod-pixel-2-xl-launcher-mods-8-1-0-dp1-t3701939
It's funny, because before I had no use for it. I'd always stick with opening chrome and typing in the search area there. For the last year now I've been using the search bar widget on my homescreen and seriously can't go without it. I barely even open Chrome anymore. And even when I do use a customer launcher time to time usually Nova...first thing I do upon setup is stick that search bar right at the bottom lol.
It's kind of worthless since it will ONLY use the Google Calendar, and I use another app for calendar displays.
It takes up real estate.
But you can't turn it off? Is that really correct?
If you're using the stock launcher then no, not that I've found. You could always try using a different launcher, I'd recommend Nova.
Yeah, I was trying to give google's a fair chance, but getting irritated with the large gaps between icons as well. Thanks.
Nope, you can't turn it off or remove it but you can turn off the 2 functions is has - Calendar events and Traffic information. Just long press on it and a little pop-up comes up labeled Preferences. Tap that.
This should solve your issues. Install it on top of your stock Pixel Launcher. https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-rootless-pixel-2-launcher-google-t3688393

I use the google calendar and still get no notifications or events on the screen. I thought I'd give pixel launcher a chance but i'm going back to nova. all the gaps are annoying me.

It only shows them close to the event time. I'm not sure if it honors the notification period on the event (which I think is like 10 minutes?) or if it has a hard coded value, I just moved the appointment right up close, in a bit later it appeared. Completely anti-climatic, I much prefer seeing what's queued up, e.g. Smooth Calendar widget is one I've been using for ages, nothing special but at least it makes sense.
mine still doesn't show events happening in the next 2 min. I think I'm going back to nova launcher. btw I use Event Flow Widget. It's hands down my favorite and having that on my homescreen is the #1 reason I couldn't get an iphone. i have to have that widget on the homescreen.

Anyone know what this line is for on the ambient display for android p?
https://www.androidpolice.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/nexus2cee_ambient-display-p.png
I'm thinking it may be where weather would go if you have that feature set up. I don't. Wondering if there's a way to remove it.
Thanks!

I assumed it was just a separator between the phone's info (time, date, etc) and the notifications? I guess you need to find someone who has the weather enabled (I don't) to see if it's still there. I'm guessing it is.

Yeah it's a separator. You won't see it unless you have notifications

No it isn't, it's where the weather should be. Unfortunately it requires a clean wipe to fix.

This comment says you don't need to:
"Uninstalled Google updates (disable then enable the Google app from phone settings) => restart => update Google app => restart and Voilaaaa the weather in the lock screen [emoji2][emoji2]
N.B.: I have a Pixel 2 XL and got the Android P through OTA if that matters."

Confirmed. Good stuff.
Ironically, the separator is still there with the weather.

The line is a seperator on ambient display, the pics in the link you quoted are the lockscreen, not ambient display.
the weather on ambient display appears to the right of the date just as it does on homescreen.
remember ambient display is an all black screen.
And yes, it also does appear on the lockscreen, in the same format: date - weather
Seems some people have it, others dont.
I had it yesterday, but its gone today.

Yep it is a separator to split out notifications from the standard Ambient Display info.
Thanks for the info on getting the weather to display. Good stuff! :good:
When I fixed the weather thing I just removed the Google update then put it right back. No reboot was required for me.

Thanks for this. I do have F set there, which means on the homescreen I have the correct temperature, but on the lockscreen it's in C. Odd.

ohh, that is very odd.
I didn't need to wipe the phone to fix the missing weather on the lock screen. Go into apps and disable Google. That reverts it to an older version. Reenable and give it a little bit and it will be there.

Although it's less of a problem, because this morning it has disappeared altogether. Still, never mind. I'll just look out of the window.
I actually never got it to work even though I tried the "fix" I quoted. And further along in the comments, it looks like it disappears for everyone.

If anything, I'm happy that the battery percentage is now on the AOD. That's more helpful to me.
