i noticed that only the stock MM rom had the BEST sound!!! right after updating with OTA on nougat i noticed a lower quality/volume
seems like if the speaker is only playing the LEFT or RIGHT channel of a song.... and NOT MERGING both channels. in some songs i can clearly see that some effects/voices are missing or at very low volume during precise seconds.... this is clearly because the left+right channels are not united...........

Has anyone noticed that the volume is lower in Froyo than it was in Eclair?
I've tried a number of different apps (built in player, tunewiki etc.) and there seems to be a definite reduction in the volume since upgrading. Any ideas?
i was going to post a thread saying volume is much better!
earlier on 2.1 it was crap for me. now both in call volume and media volume are much better and in call volume is clearer. the rear speaker sounds less tinny and is passable now. the shrill hiss / tinny sound at max volume is gone now totally since froyo update i think atleast on the tracks i listed to (preinstalled music and soem youtube videos). i was infact thinking i might reduce the volume a bit which seems a bit of a shock to me knowing the crap rear speaker dished out with the desire. earlier i had said elsewhere that this was the worst speaker i had seen on a phone compared to any of my phones in the last decade, but now i retract that statement. looks like it was a software issue.
i had before the froyo update installed the free 'car mode' app that uses the rear speaker, i would use that mode when ever i put the phone in my trouser pocket as otherwise i would never hear the notifications and often the ring if i was out and about. then after fiddling around i found some sound settings which wasnt obvious at first and disabled the default tick box that made the ring volume and notification volume the same. after disabling that tick box then i could independently adjust the notification volume.
also before the froyo update i installed the free 'quick settings' app which under its settings has a setting for sound, under that apart from the usual volume controls, it has a separate control for system volume which i couldnt find elsewhere on the phone and after increasing that system volume to max, the volume output improved from the rear speakers.
but after froyo it is even better now, both for call volume from earpiece and rear speaker. i cant comment about the earphones as have never used them yet and still in its packet somewhere. wish there was a way to use the fm radio without needing the earphones.
Interesting..I'm specifically speaking of the headphone volume and the ringer volume. It's certainly lower (around 30% lower than 2.1).
I do agree the output from the inbuilt speaker is improved.
Upon further research, I have seen others mention similar issues and also relating to the quality of the sound. I've also seen custom roms using pershoot's audio mod which is supposed to increase loudness. Can this be applied to a stock 2.2 rom (rooted of course)?
Hi,
i got the Firmware Update from 14.5 today. Is there anywhere a changelog, what is new with this update??
Because after i installed it and the Surface rebooted the icons on Metro UI where smaler than before, so that there where one more icon in each column. After i started some apps and come back to the metro UI the icons where at the "normal" size, it was before the update. So was that only for me?? Should the icons be smaller, or what happend??
The smaller icons looked a bit better
Read http://www.microsoft.com/Surface/en-US/support/performance-and-maintenance/rt-update-history
Thanks, have the icons become smaller??

That's an oddity that happens occasionally, there's been a number of reports of it happening. If you want to have more icons there's a thread floating around here somewhere that has a registry tweak that can do it.
Thanks for the info.
But now i have an other real problem. When Hearing Music quietly the Sound changes all the time between a higher and lower Sound Level. Only when i have it loud enought the Sound has a constand volume. Thats realy annoying. Is there something known?
And it depens on the song i hear. For some Songs i Need to listen with volume louder than 8 for other it Need to be louder than 4 to have a constand volume. But it doesn't matter if it is YouTube app, in browser, or the Music app.
Only when using headphones there is no problem.
I hope you can help me.
I seem to have that problem too. When listening to music through the speakers at low volume it cuts in and out. Mainly near the end of a track. Thought it may be a buffering issue initially as was streaming, but it's the same with local files.
Quite unsatisfactory.
Yes that's exactly my problem. It depens on the song you listen. Is there a fix for that?? Does everybody have this problem??
The only solution I've found is to rock out louder :highfive:
Had the Problem at Volume lvl 14, too. And at an other RT it's the same. for sure The last Update was s**t
I was playing with the audio on mine yesterday, here's my observations:
The audio level is uneven when it's at low volume (it seems to fluctuate maybe 10-15% when it's below around 40 on mine)
I can only tell a minuscule difference between audio at 50% and audio at 100%, whereas audio at 10% is drastically quieter than at 50%
It does seem to be louder, but since it fluctuates so much <40% for me and I prefer to listen to it quieter at night to not disturb others it's largely worthless.
I'm not noticing any of these issues when I use a USB headset.
Edit: After a reboot I no longer notice the audio level fluctuations.
hey gang, just got my TMO Z2 friday, everything is great, already have it rooted, but seems like the speaker volume is a bit low, it shows at 57% volume but is pretty weak, same with alarms and notification sounds. while playing a game i thought the speaker was on the back of the phone (like my LG G4 had) it sounded that weak
anyone else notice the sound being a bit weak?
I've noticed some games cause the volume to lower such as Pokemon Go, have you tried just playing music and comparing the volume?

well, maybe it was just me trying to get used to a new phone. just played music and a game and the volumes were equal, set at 57%, they both could be heard across the room, so maybe it's nothing, i'll give it a few more days. thanks for responding
Is it just me or after the update the balance shifted to the earpiece speaker which seems now a bit louder than the bottom one ?
It's not a huge difference, maybe someone else noticed this also ?
Tried turning dolby on/off, did not seem to matter. I don't see any setting for balance when on loudspeakers (is there any ?).
Yeah
I have the same thing.
At the four upper divisions of the volume, the lower speaker wheezes. I guess it is from a bit of dust that has fallen inside. At first I thought I'd get used to it, so now the phone itself lowers the volume. The volume even at the maximum divisions is quiet, after a while it comes back. This is despite the fact that the phone is still and he did not fall. Rebooting does not solve the problem. If you remove the player from the processes where the music is playing, then start again, seconds 3 is normal, and then it starts playing softly again. I use android 9. The problem arose this week. Ps. Sorry for the translator
