power button question - Pixel C Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I recently acquired a Pixel C and I am very happy with it but something is bugging me. The power button is kind of hard to push and there is no haptic feedback, i.e. click, like for the volume buttons. Could anyone be so kind and confirm how the power button feels on their device, to know if this is normal or if there's something wrong ? Big thanks in advance!!

It's not hard on my new Pixel C, feels just like my phone. There is no haptic feedback on the device which is a shame.

Thanks for your response! What I meant by haptic feedback was the subtle click you get when you press the volume buttons. My power button doesn't do that and sometimes I have to press twice do turn the pixel on or off, which is a bit annoying.

oops, double post !

Ok, understood.
So my power button feels exactly like the volume controls. As you say, a 'subtle' click.

Mine has the click for the power button, and isn't hard to push at all. Sounds like there's something up with yours.

Thanks, now I know that something is wrong. Oh well, here we go for a return, hope Google manages that quickly.

Just called them and a replacement unit is already on its way!
Now I have to flash everything back to stock just to avoid any warranty issues...
Thanks for your help!

Did you install recovery and root?
If so, which method did you use? There are several documented in this forum, most out-of-date.
I'm just about to use TWRP 3.1.1-1 (to keep data encryption) and Magisk 14.5 which apparently now works with Pixel C.

yep, TWRP 3.1.1-1 and Magisk 14 work like a charm.
Combined with adAway and a modded youtube apk it's the perfect tablet for me, so glad they still had one left!

[Q] Volume Rocker Wake

I'm on CleanROM and I'm using Xposed w/ GravityBox to do all my modding. I've enabled volume rocker wake and for whatever reason, you can't use the volume keys to wake the device after an extended time. I've always had this issue, even on Jelly Bean. It wouldn't matter if I used GravityBox or if the setting was baked into the ROM. I read somewhere that there was a "timeout" on that feature and that you could only use the volume keys within a minute of the device being used.
If this is the case, how do I get rid of the timeout? If there isn't a timeout, how can I get this working? I can't be the only one having this issue.
Any help is appreciated greatly.

I had the same issues with the volume rocker wake function in Gravitybox and use Xposed module "Vol2Wake" instead...it works perfectly.

Pheww...that took me a while to find, as it is not an Xposed mod as I seem to have remembered incorrectly. Here is the link to xda post with direct link to the file :

It is an Xposed Module. It's just not in the Xposed Repo.
I appreciate it! This seems to have fixed my issues.

I spoke too soon. The timeout still happens. :/
So, any ideas? According to Google, nobody has this issue.
I enabled mine to see what happened. Just doesn't seem very stable to me. Maybe there's a kernel with something that works better.
ElementalX kernel allows slide 2 wake/sleep and double tap to wake. I didn't think it be helpful until I enabled it, and it's pretty nice not having to press the side button.

I use that, but it hurts my battery life too much.
I'm having the same issue. I have xposed and gravity box for both my N5 and N7. Volume rocker to wake works on the N5, but doesn't work on N7. Any more ideas on this?
I've also tried modaco and XUtilities, but no luck.
Thanks

Yeah, I still never got anything to work.
I have ElementalX and GB on both my N5 and N7 and the volume button wake on the N5 has always worked flawlessly and on the N7 the longer it's asleep the less likely it will work. Personally... I just blew it off and forgot about it for the N7, the power button and volume button are right next to each other anyway.
I sold my N4 this last Thanksgiving but I vaguely remember the volume wake being hit or miss on it also, so maybe it's a cpu issue/incompatibility, the N4 & N7 both use the S4 Pro.
Guys I have the same problem with my new nexus 7 32 gb wi-fi !! tried swcre'd rom, simple aosp, euphoria, (full wipe, also reboot and two wipes ecc..) but this function doesn t work on my tablet. It works only in the arch of 2 seconds with screen off, after 5 seconds or more no .
With twrp recovery, when screen off, the volume rocker wake it's ok, but maybe because there isn't a "deep sleep". Also when there is music play but screen off ,the volumer rocker wake works. I don't know what to say to the attendance, because with screen on it's all ok. There is a solution please ? thank you

Is there a way to skip tracks for songs?

By long pressing the volume buttons?
I'm interested in this as well. I know there is a button remapper app, but not sure if it will work with skipping tracks. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=flar2.homebutton

I tried it a month ago no go.
I think something like Tasker could still work on Oreo

Late reply and you may have found something but for those who have not, Button Mapper by flar2 is what I use just for doing this. Available on XDA and Play Store.

Yea, we are looking for something that will work with the screen off.
Xposed + Gravity box - has an option to skip tracks with volume keys.
Works great, just tested it. Screen off

Yes it can be done with the screen off. You need to enable 'Screen Off Actions' in the 'Advance' menu. Scroll to the bottom.

?
Worked on a P10 with EMUI 8, android 8 Oreo, when nothing else would work. Forced it to see it as AOSP in the settings but maybe not necessary
Smart pocket does a pretty good job. Double/single click instead of long press, but it works.
just flash Ressurection remix and u can do what u want =)

Volume button to skip tracks ?

Hi,
Is there a way to skip tracks by long pressing volume buttons when the screen is off ? (like in almost all custom roms).
I'm running MIUI 10 and I didn't find a way to do it.
You must have root access then you need to download Button Mapper application from play store. Configure the application and you are good to go.

Seems like a nice solution, but I can't make it work only when the screen is off. Or maybe I missed something

That's the drawback, it'll work even when screen is on.

Question Prevent Shutdown from Lockscreen

Hi there friends, how are you doing? Hope you all are really great.
Please, is there a way to prevent POCO F3 shutdown from lockscreen? I mean, when phone is locked I actually can just hold Power Button and select Shutdown without password.
My phone is on Version
MIUI Global Room 14.0.4 TKHMIXM
Android Version 13
I'v been searching for it has a year and no clue about how to do it
I'am sorry if is there any topic created here that i didn't see, if it exists, I'll close the topic.
Thank you so much for any help.
I think it's an aosp feature. I'm using Evo x, it has that feature

Ok, but does it just hide the Power-Menu?
Because then, a user can still just *hold* the Power-Button, and the phone will reboot.

This is a useful feature in cases where the phone freezes and refuse to respond. So it should and will always be present.
