Wireless Charging Hardware Mod? - Xiaomi Mi 6 Questions & Answers

Hi,
I received this phone a few days ago and I am still disappointed that is does not have wireless charging although the back is glass and not metal. I wonder if anyone has tried a hardware mod with something like this. I also saw that there are some external solutions utilising the charging port but I would very much prefer to have that uncovered and I imagine that the linked circuit is way smaller.
I would try it out if no one else did it before if there's a chance of success, so the main question is if there's enough room inside the case and if these three connectors are compatible in general, soldering is no problem if necessary.

you can buy nillkin case wireless charging enabler with tag on aliexpress.com

Hi, were you successful in any way?

I didn't continue to investigate because I think there might not be enough room behind the battery for the coils. Also getting the connection to the battery/phone right could be really tricky because everything is so small.

Try cnn.cn but i think you will find only the whole micro usb port and not the flex cable alone
I have tried 12 replacement parts from ebay for an i717 and they ALL have no service after putting them in. but the original one that doesn't charge still gets service fine...
edit: I can recommend http://www.parts4repair.com/. Worked like a charm

Yes, the AT&T version and the International version have different radios, and the micro USB port is connected to them. They are NOT interchangeable.

Any tips anyone?
Hi, I just want to revive this thread rather than start a new one.
I am gonna swap my my usb charging port for a one I bought on eBay. Does anyone have any tips I should know about that you can tell me?
I'm going by this youtube video. this is all I got and of course I'm kinda scared.:crying:
Thanks. Will check back later.
Easy to do, but will cause other issues
Hi. I too have just brought a note with this problem.
The replacement is easy, remove battery cover, battery sim etc. Take out the screws, use something thin to pries the edge off. Its the lip below the screen level though. After that, 3 more screws for the bottom section, then take out the one screw in the thin motherboard piece. Slide out the old flex, slide in the new one, re assemble.
The biggest problem is that youll most likely lose 80 % of your reception from it. When the phone is open, try to see if there is any corrosion behind your USB port, if there is clean it and try it. I did that as im sending my ebay one back for a replacement, Now my old one seems to be working, but for how long, i dont know.

I bought a battery charger and extra battery. I bought the brand Hyperion but I've heard there are better brands. Anyway, I don't charge my phone any more... I just swap batteries now. One is always on the charger and one in the phone. It works fantastically and further, the phone always has a charge. When I want to swap files I remove the card and put it in the PC. Works really good.
If you are on about the daughter board I got one of Amazon for£10 took less than 10 mins to fit and have had no problems. Came In OEM packaging

It's 10 black screws on the back & 5 white to take there cover of over the daughter board. No need to undo a mother board screw whats this about losing 80%signal?
That's rubbish, Sir! Mine is on5 bars H+ and has been sincei did it. As there is a new mix. Too the sound is better, IMO

Bought mine off ebay worked 100%, signal is still the same, nothing happens to signal. But you have to buy the whole board. Mine didnt come with a wee microphone bit so i took off my old one, stuck the sticky bit within the square part and put the rubber part in the cover and screwed it on. Everything working fine.

My usb port is busted so am replacing that board too. However, I've bought two off ebay and both have had problems. First one fixed the charging issue but didn't give me any reception (well one bar now and then) and the second gave me signal but had a busted micro usb port. EBay can be so fustrating sometimes!!

I have just fitted my 3rd replacement board and loose most of my signal after fitting it. My original board gives me full signal but intermittent charging. :crying:
Do all N7000 use the same board or does country intended for make a difference? My note is an International phone made for Hong Kong.

To be honest I still haven't got a perfect replacement yet but one that is at least functional (get werid noises during phone calls - not on my end but on whoever is calling me).
You do have to make sure you get the correct board though. If you look on the original board it should have some writing in gold near the top. Mine said Rev 1.0 so I got replacements which were rev 1.0 too. Apparently there are other revisions (although I didn't come across any others).

And then followed this link on how to do it, took me 2 attempts as the 1st time I hadn't pushed one of the ribbon cables down and had no service. After pushing it in and putting it all back together it works again

Very cool. I wonder what the charging pad looks like.
Also, while this will fit under your otterbox I don't know if it will actually charge it through it. Worth the $45 though!
for 45$ and a drop in solution i am willing to try and test it...
This looks like a damn good price tbh. $68 for a receiver and charger is cheaper than any qi combo that I know of currently.
The bonus is that it's also Qi technology so even if you change your s3 out, you should be able to get another phone that has qi tech in it or even modify that charging pad to work on other electronic devices (with some copper tape/wire)

Thats exactly what i was thinking.. The odd fact that i just so happend to find this today and apparently it just went live today i am pretty excited to snag it at this price.
But As im sure the capabilities to wirelessly charge are inevitably going to be included in future phones it isnt like this tech is likely going to be easily replaced. And it also seems like Samsung is going to abandon using our phones tech as wireless charging.. or at least thats what i gathered from thsi article..
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2013/03/11/samsung_s4/
the thing w/ samsung and wireless charging is that they really have no idea who the hell they're really going to back. Yes, Samsung co-founded A4WP, but they're also member of Qi's group as well.
To me, it just looks like they're sitting on the fence and waiting to see who will come out as the standard before going all in. I also don't think Samsung will build it into the phone itself due to its current ambivalence on the 2 standards and most likely leave it open like the s3 and note 2.
While the article talks about a4wp having a few cm of range, he also did not mention that a newer revision of Qi offers up to 4cm of range as well (last I checked).
I don't care much for too much range for wireless charging, just enough so that any non-ferrous case will charge regardless of thickness. I have a Qi set and it has so far worked with the ballisitc SG (although it Can get picky, but that's due to the fact that I also modified the charger to be at a 45 degree angle and the case's bottom lip [on the hard plastic side] curved up a little for no reason)

Right that much i understand...
I was holding out for the wireless charging where i didnt need to have it directly on the base. and every few months i search around for a viable option.
So far, since my free time is limited, this seems like the best all in one solution that doesnt require me to change my case, and its a good price.

The stealth one, and the one built into a battery cover can be found on a different site for only about $15.
this one comes with a charger as well.. which would cost 50-60 usd more. so it's a good deal.

i got it. i know i could make a set with the palm pixie stuff, i priced it out on amazon and total with a charging dock its like 20$... but i dont have the time to. im only actually home about 3 days a month. id rather be lazy..
Just an FYI i got my wireless charging kit from this company and it works great. Its a small device that attaches to the back of the stock battery. Its very small and it fits perfectly, very small buldge from the device but the back case fits on fine and my otterbox fits it perfectly.
the best part, it works with the stock otterbox. there were no issues with wireless charging whatsoever.
How is this one any different than any of the other wireless IQ receiver pads & chargers for the s3?

That it works with all variants, doesnt require you to change out your battery door, although they offer a solution for it, and its pad and reciever for 40$

Docking Station

Hi,
so soon my nexus will be here and after over 6 years with iPhone I'm moving to try android.
one think i always loved about my iphone is the docking station, makes life better and easier.
now with the iphone its very easy to find docking station that fit 100% right, and then i dont have to worry about damage to the charging port, the phone is held up very tight and i never had any problem.
on the android camp its harder to find phone specific accessories so heres what i manage to find:
im looking for a cheap solution but can pay a little more if its really worth it
cheap:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Micro-USB-D...AU_MobilePhoneAccessories&hash=item2ecab22c6d
expensive:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Universal-M...Phone_PDA_Cables_Adapters&hash=item43c158ab0c
the expensive one at least comes with a cable, and heres a video i found that shows that this product might be a better choice:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wTyGmNTh6iA
i just dont want the device to wobble freely hanging only by the usb connector.
i also hear that micro usb is much weaker then apple connectors so im a bit worried.
any1 have any experince with such products? what do u think? am i risking damage to my usb port? thanks.

IMHO ... yes, you are risking damaging the port. I personally wouldn't even consider using one as I've gone through a bunch of phones that the Micro-USB eventually stopped working properly. The Nexus one was notorious for that problem as have been quite a few other devices. Micro-USB just doesn't hold up over time.
Now, back to your problem. One thing the Nexus 5 has over the iPhone is Qi Wireless charging. So, might I suggest stop thinking in terms of how you would plugin in your iPhone to charge it, and to sync it with iTunes. All of this can be done using apps that sync wirelessly (iSyncr etc) and a good Qi charger.
Here's a good starting point for a "dock" like standing position while your N5 charges:
http://www.amazon.com/Nokia-DT910-Wireless-Charging-Stand/dp/B00A3NCC8M
It's important for you to note the orientation of the Micro USB port on the phone. On nexus devices reversed compared to the samsung phones those docks are for. I own the dock on the first link. It will not work with the Nexus.
You need one that's pin-side facing you. Unless you want the phone facing away from you
It's an annoying aspect of the Micro USB standard -- when it comes to direction, there is no standard.
DIY: Not ideal because it doesn't LOOK great but does WORK great. I bought the dock from that first link for my S3 and because of its 'universal'ness it was extremely wobbly, putting much undue strain on the port. I stuck a couple wads of Sugru down on the dock and behind the connector (where the phones back would rest) and stuck my phone in. When it dried after 30 minutes I had a perfect custom fit. Looked like **** though. Function over form in this case.

this...
but this is also a relatively new thing as the Nexus 4 was the "standard" way that everyone is used to (small side up where the Nexus 5 flipped it to small side down)
For charging, I would recomend the Google's wireless charger: https://play.google.com/store/devices/details/Nexus_Wireless_Charger?id=nexus_wireless_charger. As for syncing, what kind of things are you going to sync from your computer to your phone? On the android side the majority of things can/are synced over wifi or cloud services.

Thanks for all the answers...
I didn't think about orientation lol, i forgot about this issue.. so docking stations seems meh ATM
about wireless chargers... quite expensive IMO and i always fear that since the phone is not being held tightly it might fall and break.
i put my phone on a nightstand near my bed so accidents in the dark could happen, and i also like it when the phone is standing so i can see the screen without picking it up.
so that limits the range of wireless chargers i can use.
syncing is not a problem btw.
good thing i asked here.. i almost bought one of those. i guess ill try to find wireless one that suites me.
thanks again!

[Q] Issues with replacement screen

Hello, I recently purchased (from Asus) and installed a replacement LCD + digitizer on my N7. It went together easier than expected and I was happy with the results until I noticed that while multi-touching the screen it wigs out a bit. I cannot play Minecraft PE and move and look around at the same time for example. I cannot zoom in or out on pics without the picture jumping around like in a seizure like state for another example. Any ideas? I don't want to have to open it again but I will do what is necessary to fix this issue.
Thank you.
Asus don't sell parts to consumers so I don't know where you got it. Sounds like the part is faulty but check everything's connected properly and no damage to any of the flex ribbons.

Im not exactly saying your mistaken. I just question why asus would need to use amazon to sell parts? I have bought plenty of screens from amazon. One thing that is relatively certain, aftermarket parts. That doesn't mean bad in most cases just not oem. There is a touchscreen fix in either general or this Q&a. You may want to give that a try.

Maybe it only looked like easy and something went wrong when assembling it by yourself.
I am willing to admit that I did something wrong I've got a friend who is more experienced at these things who is going to take a look. As far as the screen goes the seller was marked as Asus. Thanks for all the insight so far I looked up more dead spot issues with the N7 and it seems like I'm not the only one.

How does thermal paste make an adhesive? And why do you need that for a cable connection? A thermal paste transfers heat from one surface to another. A cable connection generates no heat. Also, some thermal pastes conduct current. If you smear an amount of such stuff on the connector, you might cause the pins to short. 'm confused.

What I'm Looking for is an adhesive for the ribbon cable connevtion . one of the articles above explains the dead spot issue I am having. Sorry for the dumb question I don't have a lot of experience working inside of things like this but I figured the tablet was trash if I couldn't fix it anyways so I might as well give it shot for the experience.

Wireless charging

Has anyone tried using a reciever like this with our phone under a case? I Think the only problem is the placement of the connector in the middle while our phone has a connector on the right side of the bottom. Has anyone found one that works?

I realize this is an old thread, but i've been searching for a QI receiver for this phone too.. So far, every single one with more than 3 stars on Amazon has the wire dead center. The OP's product link is the 1st one ive seen that isn't centered, so i might have to change my search criteria.. Google lead me here while searching for other options, like maybe a phone case with QI built in that still lets you use the usb port, but i've found nada so far, and i doubt i will given this phones popularity, but it was a steal for $70 on Amazon. I doubt there's any other phone in the ~$100 price range with all the features of the 816 :good:..
If i find anything i'll post back here, just so anyone else that might look or is looking for the same thing can find it in their search..
