Best Custom ROM For ZUK Z2 Plus 2017? - Lenovo ZUK Z2 (Plus) Questions & Answers

Heya, Im new here, not much of an expert at Mobile devices.
I recently bought a ZUK Z2 plus at 50% off at an online store (Very Bang for Buck I would say).
But I've seen some reviews online that said the ZUI and battery life is bad and other bad things.
So I need help deciding which ROM is best for my preferences:
-Great and optimized battery life
-A LOT of customization(Phone UI, audio, etc)
-VoLTE Support
-OTA Updates
-ROM updates NOT DISCONTINUED and still goin
-Great camera quality
-(EDIT) Still has stock camera features such as slow motion at 120, 240, 960 fps and 4K resolution(960 fps slowmo not that necessary)
-VERY GREAT Performance(Gaming and overall usage)
-Stable ROM with nearly no bugs
-If possible, great audio jack quality (speakers too if possible)
-Android 7 (Oreo support in the future if possible)
-At least near to latest security updates
-Doesn't require to install and do other things just to make some features from stock working(Hotspot, Wifi, GPS, etc)
-Doesn't degrade other types of performance like wifi speed and bluetooth(Better performance if possible)
Anyways, my phone is still not with me and will arrive by Dec 10, the site said.
Forgive me for my high standards, I just want to make the most of my new phone and I want to be prepared before it gets here.
Also if its possible that I got my phone BRICKED af, please help me unbrick it.

Your requirement meets Jaguar ROM.. give it a shot. But my personal choice is AEX 5.0

I guess you are asking for too much, and with such stringent requirements, I guess you should go ahead and create your own ROM. Yet, if you wish to compromise on advanced level of customization, Jaguar ROM is the best in case you have the 3GB RAM variant, very fluid, minor bugs (in fact not bugs, only a lack of few advance tweaking features)

As this ROM isn't as famous as AEX or RR,
We might be needing convincing proofs.
Either share your experience detailing SOT and performance, or give list of exclusive features that you found amazing.

Just try if you wish. There some trouble in initial setup of google apps that make this rom less successful. But once you done everything it is the best ROM

Saw thread, almost no support. First let it be stable for Gapps. How did you installed Gapps? How long you've been using this rom?

Just a question,
Does resurrection remix still update the z2 plus?
Also AEX seems nice and H2OS too

Do we have a rom with quick charge and is compatible with HDR+ Google camera?

Here is the dilema:
Currently I am using the latest RR5.8.5. It is the final version of Nougat and will not be updated. I am quite happy with this rom. The only problem is that I can not use the latest HDR+ google camera (always FC). It seems that the AOSPA is the best compatible rom with HDR+ google camera. But as far as I know, there is no quick charge feature in AOSPA. All the Oreo roms are still at the early stage with huge amounts of bugs. I don't want to return to EUI 5.9 (marshmellow) either since it is not officially supported anymore. Do we have a good rom with both QC and HDR+?
Any suggestion will be much appreciated.

Yes, I think all the Nougat roms are not developed anymore. The teams are concentrating on debugging the Oreo roms.
Omni FTW

I do also have fc with omni
Just my take , I had onnia for a while however it was not compatible with all variations of Google camera. Switched to paranoid and got better call column and every single modded Google camera app I have installed has worked. Also quick Charing works great. While charging your led flashes letting you know it's in a wyci change state and when it goes back to normal speed your led.goes solid, which usually happens around 90%

"SOT?"
Can you describe what this means? it's not clear.
Edit: Nevermind are you referring to battery life?
If so, it was better with stock. However, in my opinion the stock rom was too restrictive. For example, I missed alot of notifications while using the stock rom.
Next, I installed Greenify with root using Magisk. : With excessive usage my battery life is at least one full day and with casual usage the battery will last for days.
With Paranoid, quick charge is incredibly fast. In fact, much faster than what stock provided.

thanks for reply , can u show how long SOT in paranoid and SOT in stock rom ?
Don't forget that we have BlackScreen kernel which works on many different roms. Its Alucard governor is very good to the point I ditched Advanced Governor Tweaks. It had idle drain issues but fixed since a few months ago. I highly recommend it.

I can but not at the moment. I just woke up and checked my battery that was fully charged 6 hours ago and it's still at 99%.
See screenshot, and I will send another one at a the end of the day.
FYI, I did not save any battery records from when I was using stock, nor did I make any effort to studiously track and graph out usage. My comments are based on my best estimated guess.
In my opinion, current battery life using Paranoid is better than any other phone that I have personally used and I have over 100 apps installed, including substratum.
I also use the phone for some multi-track audio recording, some games, a lot of YouTube and a lot of music listening.
I don't really pay a lot of attention to battery life because it is has been a non issue. Obviously the battery will last much longer if I am just listening to music or just talking on the phone.
After I installed, paranoid I noticed battery life was slightly degradated, so I installed Greenify.
On a typical day of heavy usage, the battery life will last from wake until bedtime: 17-18 hours, and still have 20 to 30 percent left when connecting it to the charger.
Next, I have not timed the quick charge. But I estimate that it will charge from 20% to 90% in approximately 30 minutes. Which in my recollection is much faster than charging using the stock ROM.
At the end of the day, it's totally worth switching from stock to a custom ROM. In my experience, Paranoid is a great option. I haven't tried the Omni ROM.
From what I have read, Paranoid is one of the few Roms in which everything works.
Although paranoid has 4 themes built in. Substratum allows a greater degree of control with theming. Again, battery life is very good and If you don't like the ROM there's many options. Plus it's very easy to just go back to stock.

Thanks, I haven't tried black screen, and actually didn't realize that it included such a wide range of governors. Personally, I do not really need to micromanage my settings and battery usage. But its nice to know that we have such an amazing tool available. for our phones.

Assistance to choose a good custom rom

Hi guys. I am reading the forums to the different custom ROMS for the ZUK Z2, but I am having trouble to choose the right one. I hope you can help me - I am looking for something close to stock android, support of the U touch gestures and phone calls recorder. Also, Could you recommend only stable roms that possibly offer OTA updates? Many thanks.

If you want as less bugs as possible;
You should be on nougat. I recommend jaguar N. Only issue may be battery life according to some users, which is not there according to other users. So try and see if it suits you.
Other updated ROMs include dotOS.

This requires any particular base band? Because my volte on v rom is not working

Giving my Z2 to Mom, How to make it fool proof? Suggest ROM and Apps Details inside

The requirements are simple – everything should just work fine. Requirements include games like Subway Surfers and such, browsing the web, YouTube and working camera. For me I am getting a Mi A1 or Redmi Note 5 Pro (I don’t like MIUI though but for the price I can compromise and it seems the best choice, there are no other options at that price, please suggest if you have other device in mind. Also in future I can Install ROMs on Note 5 Pro also, so yeah).
Below are my few ideas:
Stock ZUI EN 2.0.133 ST because it is more stable than Nougat variant. With ZUI I am planning on installing the Material Notification Shade app to fix the disappearing notifications icons issue but in my testing I found it to be using almost 50% of the battery, therefore I am scrapping ZUI idea. Also ZUI feels a bit cluttered too. If the notification shade app can be made to consume less battery then I will go with it though. I know ZUI with Oreo is around the corner but it's ZUI after all.
I am currently using AEX 5.2. It is quite stable but has good overnight battery drain, like ~15% sometimes. Yesterday I slept at 3 am with 82% and woke up with 68% battery at 10 am. Also there is the camera problem. I have been using the Modded GCAM and it is GREAT! Only problem is the videos, unusable slow motion and normal videos come dark and they are unusable as well. BUT for videos I use OnePlus’ camera app and it is good but I can’t see mom using camera without getting confused So I am ready to forgo the camera2api magic and install a non-frills camera.
So for Camera please suggest an all-rounder workable camera application that I can install in the system or as priv-app and also any suggestion for the battery drain.
I am looking at some other ROMs as well. I want to test some ROMs that just work. I have been hearing about ViperOS and H2OS for some time that they are great. I just need a ROM that will work, no bells and whistles needed. So please Suggest some ROMs.
If you have any other suggestion then please let me know.

I did use 4.6 way back and here is what i found if i recall:
In notification shade when you swipe the notification it stutters.
I don't remember about the heating issue though.
It was stuttery in general now that i remember, i had to flash Heliox Kernel for the heating issue and there was no improvement in the performance.
4.4 was quite good if i remember it correctly.
Anyways thanks i think i might revisit this ROM

I have to say, just ask your mum about her preferences of what she likes to use out of the phone.
And install barebone AOSP-ish rom with adblock/popup block/youtube ad-block on it. Then get her apps installed and she'll be happy. No complexities whatsoever.
Our elders aren't picky as us , my mum is using an LG G3 and its been on fulmics rom from day one, and it works perfect for her because all she does is follow up daily news, youtube, browse some internet, watch some episodes and thats it.
Also a 5.5" or 6" screen is ideal for our elders because of good visiblity of text etc.

I'm using the rom as it is, with its own kernel (it's heliox btw). The rest is up to you, I'm using gapps pico, magisk just to have root and remove ads with adaway and gcam mod
just use viper os 3.1.1 with heliox 10/15 ..
Nitrogen OS Would be the Best! But there isn't any solution to Dark Videos as yet. Still you can use Proshot or Footej Camera for the Job.

[NEW] [ROM] LineageOS 14.1 Latest Build (7.1.2) | NO HEATING, BETTER BATTERY [5.2.18]

**MODS Please move this thread to Development threads, I'm not able to post there! Thanks **
I compiled Lineage 14.1 from sources on a server.. Took me 5 hours to solve errors and compile it
Thanks MoreSushant48for helping in everything ! <3
LINEAGE OS 14.1 (UNOFFICIAL) Latest build with better battery life and and less heating!
Running on 7.1.2
Security patch 5th February 2018 ( Probably the latest )
5 battery profiles to play with!
Power save
Efficiency
Balanced
Quick
Performance
Why to use this ROM instead of stock?
* Less heating! - In power save and efficiency profiles, you can do normal multitasking without any heating issues.
* Better battery life! - I'm not a heavy user! I got around 2 hours Screen on Time with 75% battery remaining with 7-8 hours Standby! So, if you use this as your daily driver and you are a normal user, you can expect 2-3 days standby easily!
* Better performance (may increase heating issues) - Use the Performance profile and see the magic! it'll start over heating but you'll see better performance though!
* Gestures, and customization of Lineage OS!
What's Working?
Wifi
Camera
Bluetooth
NFC
All major stuffs!
What's not working / Weird BUGS?
* sound and Screenshot sound is annoying (even in silent profile)
Disable it by going into /system/media/audio/ui and start looking for the .ogg file for the sound.
Just rename the file to xxxxxx.ogg.bak
* I can't find anything else Report here if you can find any bugs!
Download -

GAPPS - ARM64 / 7.1 / (I recommend Pico) - here or Open GApps

Solution for me: https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-moto-torch-flash-tile-chop-chop-t3756268
@Sweetie
Can you share the sources you used to build your version? I'm especially interested in kernel sources.
I'm also working on LOS for kinzie and found several issues related to kernel on my builds.
I would like to compare it with what you used on your side.
And what about camera quality, autofocus etc. compared to stock rom camera app? Is there noticeable quality loss? This is usualy only thing that make me stay with stock roms on other phones.

Moto display is only available on Moto Stock Roms, you will find AMBIDENT DISPLAY in settings->Display which works same as the moto display

Yeah it works good, but I think it is losing quality.. maybe I'm not sure.... stock one looked better I think.
Still it's quite good!

I used this as tree!
You can try this too! https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git/commit/?h=linux-3.10.y
Hi, hope you could answer these questions for your ROM.
1. Is the ROM compatible with X Force running on Android 7.0 Nougat?
2. How is the camera quality vs stock camera?
3. Are the chop chop flashlight and double twist for camera included in this ROM?
4. Any performance issue?
Thanks for continuing to develop for Moto X Force. Appreciate it a lot!
1. Rom is compatible with Android N 7.0 stock Firmware
2. Camera qlty not sure about but stock one is better (little diffrence)
3. Gestures are located in Settings of LineageOS and should work (i dont use them ) also more gestures are there as compared to stock rom
4.Didnt see the performace issue in LOS14.1 and battrey life should be good as already mentioned
Los15 maybe?!

If someone could help ys with the device tree then LOS15.1 can be built for Kinzie
works fine on xt1581, everything works well! Thanks, bro!!!

Why are there so many ROM's? Why not all develop single/few standard ROM's?

Confused on which ROM to choose. Not enough experienced/ knowledge to understand the differences. Need for daily use.
While trying these ROM's felt curious to know Why are there so many ROM's? Why not all develop single/few standard ROM's?
Just ignore the "ROMs" from degrus, they are not real ROMs, they are s-gsi which is like a rom but not device optimised and with a lot of bugs. There is literally one real q ROM for p2. Derpfest from Astridxx

There is already so much hate out there. Please, don't scar this community which helps each other without asking anything. Degrus has done a mistake but he is working hard to push good quality ROMs for P2. Don't blabber wrong info in each thread.

Do not be confused. There are so many developers that they all want to push their own thing but at back-end, all the ROMs are same with same features. Only differences will be found in stability, battery life and bootanimation etc. Android 10 ROMs are in alpha/beta phase at the moment so if you want to enjoy Android 10 features without much fuss then go for most stable ROM which is Bootleggers 4.3 (Android 9). If you want to test Android 10 then go for latest Havoc 3.0. It is the best of all Android 10 ROMs for P2.
And do not pay heed to hatemongers. They are doing nothing but talking bull****. Good luck!
its just that bootleggers doesnt have pixel nav bar and fp hw touch is not used. And at the end Havoc feels stable with a lot customizations. Thanks for the info.

During setup, a restart adjusts all the things. Havoc 2.9 is good but it doesn't have good integration of themes with system UI. That's why I don't recommend it.
Agreed. It's pointless because they are roughly the same, save for maybe an imported function and a fancy boot animation. We should have like two 9.0 and two 10.0 ROMs at most. Instead we have a dozen.
And they all seem to have that damn FP gesture bug.
