I'm running the open Oreo beta, the latest version on my Google pixel xL...
For the most part I love my phone, but for some reason the playback screen/pause and scroll doesn't fade away automatically, I have to manually press the little "x" on the bottom right of the screen. Is there a fix for this. I didn't see anything in settings.
Question 2: sometimes when watching YouTube videos the video playback is pitch black or this isn't any video period, just sound...
Any thoughts? Help? Much appreciated!
Pixel xl 8.1 preview 1, I don't have issues you are reporting(both of them). Only, sometimes videos do not get into landscape mode when I tilt the phone, need to press fullscreen button to fix it. But generally it is ok.
BTW where is that x button you mention? There is a partial rectangle to get in to full screen at bottom right.

This may be a known issue, but I've found nothing through searching the forum or Google.
Running GedeROM, and everything works perfectly. Netflix plays well, but won't go full screen. When it first starts, the soft buttons are visible, as always. A few seconds in, the buttons hide, but netflix does not resize to fill the screen, so I have a half inch border around whatever is playing.
This is not a big deal but, with a seven inch screen, I'd like to be able to use as much of the screen as possible.
Is anyone else having this problem, and is there a known fix or different ROM recommendation?
Thanks in advance!
If your having the problem of netflix only being in portrait mode try toggling the screen rotation back and forth this should allow it to rotate to landscape mode sometimes it gets a little sticky also make sure you have 180 degree rotation enabled.
Thanks, but that's not the problem. Switching from protrait to landscape IS sticky, but does work
Netflix firsts starts filling MOST of the screen, except for the bottom half inch with the Back, Home and Multitask switcher buttons visible. After 3 seconds, these buttons shrink off the screen but the picture doesn't expand to fill the space vacated by the disappearance of the soft buttons.
Works fine on the phone and other devices...
Oh, I should mention that my other devices are running variants of Gingerbread, and in one case Froyo. This may be a function of ICS.
Being that gedeRom has true fullscreen maybe there is a feature that you don't have enabled auto hide or something of that nature maybe someone would know better than I cause I don't run gede have but not presently
Have you tried holding the power button a few seconds and then choosing to hide the status bar?
Do you have auto hide enabled under system in the settings menu?

Thanks, Desanko. Turns out I'm an idiot. Problem solved!
the HOX is my first Android phone, and it's mostly fine, but there are annoyances.
One is the length of time the volume overlay stays on-screen when changing volume. It's visible almost two seconds, which, at least to me, is really annoying, especially since it is a rather large, opaque overlay right in the middle of the screen. It's especially annoying while watching a video. Does a stock Android do this as well?
Anyone know of an app to circumvent this? I haven't found anything.

Every android device has it, but you can just tap screen anywhere except the volume bar and it will disappear immediately

POOOLSKAAAA BIALOOOO CZEEERWONIIIII!!!!!
Hey thanks, but that doesn't work for me in full screen mode unless I touch twice and each touch is still registered, so my full screen video player then displays a menu and reacts unless I use a safe touch area. Still kind of annoying imho.

I dont think there is an app for this. But, there might be some custom roms that have tweaked the overlay time.
Venom ViperX JB takes about 3 seconds. It really irritated me on stock, while playing games! aargh!
Hello, I have Nexus 7 (2013) and wonder if there is a way to always force Youtube app to play in full screen once I hold it in landscape mode. In other words, say I found a video I want to view and I hold the device either in portrait or landscape mode, then i press the play button and video automatically fills the whole screen and plays in landscape mode.
Currently, if I want to play video in full screen, I have to press first once to activate Youtube app's lower panel and then on the arrows on the video's lower right button. So basically I wonder if there is way to remove these extra steps. My toddler daughter is watching lots of Youtube cartoons and every time she starts to watch a new video I have to approach her and manually make it play in full screen mode.

Not that I know of.
Sounds like a good candidate for an xposed module, request it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/modules/index-xposed-modules-collection-post-t2327541
This problem is most noticeable when watching YouTube, and I haven't toyed with too many other video apps to determine if it also happens, but while watching videos, the video will randomly pause.
Doesn't matter what brightness the phone is at, the phone isn't too warm when it happens, doesn't matter if I have headphones plugged in or not, etc. And it's not like an accidental screen touch, because touching the screen once shouldn't pause the video, just show the controls.
I've tried a full factory reset of my phone and it's still occurring. Has anyone experienced this or does anyone have any suggestions for troubleshooting? It's incredibly annoying...
Edit: I should clarify this isn't pausing while buffering - this is acting like someone pressed pause mid-video - on screen controls appear, home button appears, status bar appears, and the "Play" icon to press and continue playing the video.
I have the exact same problem.
Did you manage to resolv it?
I have LG H815 SEA and i'm on stock ROM, because i can't root or install custom ROM
The same thing happens to me. I've figured it out why it happens - and it happens in all full screen apps - bottom home touch screen buttons appear together with top notifications bar for just a split second - if you look you'll see it. That causes youtube app to pause the video, and behaviours are different in other apps. It is really annoying and I haven't found a fix yet.
Same issue here with a brand new LG v20, even happens after I take the case off. No idea what could be the issue. And same with the video being fully loaded, and being on o off Wi-Fi doesn't help . Please someone give us an answer!!!!

I had this problem with a galaxy S4. Try going to Settings -> Apps -> Three dots button on top right -> Show System -> Scroll down to media storage -> Storage -> Then Clear Data.
This seemed to fix it for a while. If there is a single app your particularly have the issue with, try reinstalling that app.
When I play a video, it starts off as a black screen and won't wake up until I touch it. Then after a while, when the bar with the pause, fast forward, rewind etc buttons disappears, the screen goes black again. I can still hear the audio playing. This only happens with videos I have filmed on the device (either saved off snapchat or the in built camera app) and still occurs on other video playing apps. Is there any way to fix this?
I have this problem too. check the box next to "Disable HW Overlay" under developer options.
After a week or so it unchecks it again for some reason, and I go back and check that box. It's a temporary fix, hopefully there's a way to stop this behavior.
I have the same problem, please help T.T
